Before leaving for Uganda, Will Shehee felt like he and his family had a word from God - that God would protect them. In some ways, that made him feel invincible. But as he and Etta share in their second episode together with Scott they were far from invincible. Still, God showed His incredible faithfulness and used incredible tragedy to strengthen their faith and to reveal a much deeper truth. As you listen, you'll learn: Why Will felt like they would be invincible. What happened when tragedy struck. How God provided support for them in Uganda, and prepared them for this difficulty. What it was like to release even this tragedy to God. How God was faithful to Will and Etta to share a deeper truth with them on the same day. What they would like for you to remember when you're facing challenges or tragedies. This is a powerful and touching story. But even more - it's a story of God's goodness. Will Larson CTO @ Calm shares with us how to focus your time on what actually matters. You’ll hear about many of the common traps engineering leaders fall into and his frameworks to help you better target your time to focus on long-term, high-impact work. "A lot of times they'll be like, 'Oh no one's working on this... I can make a huge improvement here!' But then they'll get signals from leadership that 'Actually this isn't valued...' And so I think it's really important to understand what SHOULD be valuable, and then understand what IS actually valued, and then make your own decisions based on that in terms of where you want to put your time." When thinking about education we need to be completely clear on our Why. In today's Better Wealth Episode, I sit down with Dominic Rufran, one of our BetterWealth Coaches, as we discuss the topic in one of his Linkedin videos, Education. https://youtu.be/dZw48zoSKZc (Join us on YouTube to see the video for yourself.) Dominic and I discuss our own college experience but also discuss the shocking statistics in educational debt, future cost potential and financial consequences people face today from past educational choices. We ask our listeners, those advising children towards college or those seeking to attend, “What is your Why? Will college really help you accomplish your Why? And are you ready for the financial consequences?” Listen as we share our love of education, but share how alternative education might be a more cost effective method to investing in your #1 Asset as you focus on your future self, your cost potential, and your financial model. #BETTERWEALTH For more information on BetterWealth or the content you hear on the Podcast visit us at http://www.betterwealth.com/podcast (www.betterwealth.com/podcast).
Will Ahmed is the Founder and CEO of WHOOP, which has developed next-generation wearable technology for optimizing human performance and health. I found him through an excellent interview he hosted with Rory McIlroy, a winner of four major championships who was once the #1 golfer in the world. Then, once we started talking, he told me about the group chats he shares with other top golfers like Justin Thomas. The man is obsessed with health technology like nobody I’ve ever come across, so conversation topics range from the business of wearables, to the challenges of tracking accurate data. Then, he shared his philosophy for why sleep and recovery are a more important data point for an athlete than exercise and stress. My favorite part of the interview was hearing about Will’s philosophy of management, and why he tries to hire people who have high intensity and high humility. Please enjoy my conversation with WHOOP CEO Will Ahmed. ____________________________ Show Notes 2:15 - What data Will wishes he could magically track for his users and why it could drastically improve their health. 6:30 - How breathing exercises, mindfulness, and meditations help your heart rate. 11:05 - Why WHOOP has found so much success in helping golfers and baseball players over other sports. 13:20 - What Will remembers as his favorite conversations with athletes. 16:24 - Why it's so hard to capture accurate sleep cycle data. 20:43 - Why teams on average get less sleep at an away game than at a home game. 23:38 - The limits of what can or can't and what should or shouldn't be tracked. 26:38 - How WHOOP separates itself from the larger players in the health market. 31:08 - Why Will believes strongly that the branding of WHOOP products aids in developing a person's own brand. 34:30 - Why not developing your own hardware to go with your software can be detrimental to your overall design. 41:41 - The future of informed coaching using WHOOP and their membership services team. 43:19 - Why WHOOP started out as a brand-focused company, and why it was so important to go about it this way. 45:38 - What it was like playing Augusta National. 49:00 - How to know when to operate analytically versus intuitively. 56:43 - The key to being different, and why you should always be asking your customers what their problems are, not what their solutions are. 1:01:16 - What piece of advice that Will would give his younger self in the past.

“Innovation is the ability to see change as an opportunity - not a threat” - Steve Jobs As one of the top names in innovation, Steve Jobs pushed the boundaries of “how it’s always been done” and created a new wave of technology that changed how the world worked. One of the most fascinating things about the Apple founder is that his most revolutionary ideas were actually a new take, on something old. He made the clunky computer accessible to the average home-owner, and he made a phone with no buttons. Sometimes, the small tweaks are what lead to the biggest breakthroughs. The virtual craze in 2020 due to the coronavirus is nothing new. You are probably an old pro, but just don’t realize it. If you have streamed a live video on social media, built a sales funnel, created a website, or hosted a webinar, you have created a virtual event. We believe that now is the time to experiment, have fun, and innovate with your virtual events. Our guest today, on Inside The Greenroom shares the same sentiment. Join Blair Nichols and founder of Endless Events, Will Curran as they talk about how you can take your virtual events to a new level. It’s a bit of an owned-media special this week! In the latest show, we talk to Will Sturgeon, head of content and thought leadership at PwC. Will talks us through PwC’s content strategy and explains why he believes the opportunity for owned-media content, distributed via a business’s experts, has never been greater. In the UK, PwC has 22,000 employees and 900 partners and operates across multiple vertical sectors and disciplines. Will has a content team of about 10 people. Here’s a flavour of what Will and I discuss: [00:01:37] Will talks us through some of the set-piece content pieces that PwC does – including its Annual CEO Survey. [00:01:51] How an organisation like PwC with 22,000 people in the UK and 900 partners, develops a co-ordinated content strategy. [00:02:25] How the concerns of CEOs have changed over the last 23 years. [00:03:28 ] How PwC's owned content also includes the UK Economic Outlook Report and its Women in Work Index as well as reports into prominent social issues such as gender pay and ethnicity pay. [00:04:09] How the reports that PwC produces reflects the structure of its organisation. [00:04:28] What is the role of a content department in an organisation like PwC – does all the content have to go through Will's team? [00:06:34] How does the team behind the content work – in terms of the co-ordination between the partners, the partners’ staff and the content team? [00:06:53] Why PwC has restructured to develop a centralised marketing centre of excellence that breaks down across content, digital and campaigns. [00:08:54] What are the rules PwC follows to ensure it produces engaging content? [00:10:04] How B2B content is often different to B2C content [00:10:42] How B2B communicators are learning from the consumer world. [00:10:45] Why B2B podcasts will become an important part of the communications mix. [00:11:15] What mix of content does PwC produce and what works? [00:13:17] How B2B communicators must understand the links between the different channels. [00:14:20] How Will's team aims to provide engaging content for PwC's people to use in their individual networks. [00:14:53] Why PwC is using content to try and change people's perceptions of the business. [00:15:55] Why Will doesn't want his team to produce every piece of content, but he does want to influence every piece of content. [00:16:09] Why Will's team is producing best practice guides for writing social media content and blogs. [00:17:08] Why PwC has rationalised and reduced the number of blogs it produces across the organisation to approximately 15. [00:19:32] What are PwC's content objectives? Reach, share of voice, new business? [00:21:49] Why the opportunity for branded and owned content is greater now than previously. [00:22:40] How trust trends, like those identified in the Edelman Trust Barometer, are making the opportunity for owned content greater. [00:23:55] Why owned content does not come without its risks for brands and must be used responsibly. [00:24:46] Why there is a huge opportunity here for brands to create, maintain and grow relationships through publishing information and content to audiences. [00:25:17] How well have B2B brands embraced the opportunities of becoming a publisher by forming an

You’re given a box with a set of dice in it. If you roll an even number, a person's life is saved. If you roll an odd number, someone else will die. Each time you shake the box you get $10. Should you do it? A committed consequentialist might say, "Sure! Free money!" But most will think it obvious that you should say no. You've only gotten a tiny benefit, in exchange for moral responsibility over whether other people live or die. And yet, according to today’s return guest, philosophy Prof Will MacAskill, in a real sense we’re shaking this box every time we leave the house, and those who think shaking the box is wrong should probably also be shutting themselves indoors and minimising their interactions with others. • Links to learn more, summary and full transcript. • Job opportunities at the Global Priorities Institute. To see this, imagine you’re deciding whether to redeem a coupon for a free movie. If you go, you’ll need to drive to the cinema. By affecting traffic throughout the city, you’ll have slightly impacted the schedules of thousands or tens of thousands of people. The average life is about 30,000 days, and over the course of a life the average person will have about two children. So — if you’ve impacted at least 7,500 days — then, statistically speaking, you've probably influenced the exact timing of a conception event. With 200 million sperm in the running each time, changing the moment of copulation, even by a fraction of a second, will almost certainly mean you've changed the identity of a future person. That different child will now impact all sorts of things as they go about their life, including future conception events. And then those new people will impact further future conceptions events, and so on. After 100 or maybe 200 years, basically everybody alive will be a different person because you went to the movies. As a result, you’ll have changed when many people die. Take car crashes as one example: about 1.3% of people die in car crashes. Over that century, as the identities of everyone change as a result of your action, many of the 'new' people will cause car crashes that wouldn't have occurred in their absence, including crashes that prematurely kill people alive today. Of course, in expectation, exactly the same number of people will have been saved from car crashes, and will die later than they would have otherwise. So, if you go for this drive, you’ll save hundreds of people from premature death, and cause the early death of an equal number of others. But you’ll get to see a free movie, worth $10. Should you do it? This setup forms the basis of ‘the paralysis argument’, explored in one of Will’s recent papers. Because most 'non-consequentialists' endorse an act/omission distinction… post truncated due to character limit, finish reading the full explanation here. So what's the best way to fix this strange conclusion? We discuss a few options, but the most promising might bring people a lot closer to full consequentialism than is immediately apparent. In this episode Will and I also cover: • Are, or are we not, living in the most influential time in history? • The culture of the effective altruism community • Will's new lower estimate of the risk of human extinction • Why Will is now less focused on AI • The differences between Americans and Brits • Why feeling guilty about characteristics you were born with is crazy • And plenty more. Episode Notes Episode 66: Barrel Brothers Brewing Co’s Por Que No Mexican LagerIt’s the Two Minute Beer Review!I’m Andrew Burkum and it’s that time again where we take on that massive craft brew aisle to find the hidden treasures waiting for us there. This week we’re taking a look at Por Que No Mexican Style Amber Lager from Barrel Brothers Brewing Company in Windsor, CA. Why shouldn’t we give this one a shot? Let’s find out!Por Que No is a pale amber in the glass. The scent is very, very light. Overall it’s malty with some sweet spice and a little bit of breadiness. But what about the taste? There’s way more flavor to this one than I anticipated. It’s very subtle, though. That bready, fruity stuff from the scent comes through loud and clear here and there’s a really lovely bitterness that makes a showing right at the end. But none of these flavors are overpowering and the whole is light enough to remain refreshing but interesting from beginning to end. I also have to make a special note of the consistency of the beer. It feels good in the mouth without ever becoming thin or watery—a place where many other Mexican style lagers tend to fall apart in my opinion. This is a very nice, clean drinking beer. It’s the kind of beer that you’ll want food with, so pick some up and make a stop at your local taqueria for a pairing. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. It’s also a nice, tame 5.3% ABV, so you can enjoy a couple while you’re munching on those delicious tacos. That’s all for this week, but I hope you’ll join me next week as we take a look at Dream of Perfect Beauty New American Hoppy Ale from Foreign Objects Beer Company. Why? Will Carey is a portrait photographer who currently has 11.000 Instagram followers and he grew his community in under two years of posting to Instagram. On top of that, during the summer his full time job is photo editor and secondary shooter for Union Eleven Photographers, a wedding photography company in Ottawa and during the winter Will is a full time student. In this conversation Will and I talk about a lot. Obviously we talk about how he grew his Instagram to over 10,000 people in under two years and then how he went from 10,000 to 11,000 in only 36 hours! We discuss how he's done collaborations with Joey Kidney (670,000+ YouTube subscribers), and how he get Brandon Woelfel to follow to him (2.3 million Instagram followers). On top of having over 11,000 followers, he has an extremely high engagement rate, more than four times the average. This can be enticing to brands and Will just recently worked with a brand (Lyft) for the very first time only recently. We talk about how he turned down the initial ask because it wasn't the type of content he puts out and that his audience is used to but how he offered an alternative that the company went for. This conversation naturally has quite a few conversations about photography, including tips and gear for beginners and whether or not you should work for free. However, even if you aren't a photographer there's a lot of good things in this conversation that anyone trying to grow on social media should be doing. Be sure to leave us a rating and review, it helps us get discovered by new people. We recently surpassed 100 downloads, a modest amount but the first milestone en route to many more! We're trying something new this week, take a picture or screenshot of you listening to this podcast and share it to your Instagram Story and tag @mysocialpod and I will share it to our story. We are halfway through the Toughest Mudder season, with four of the eight Toughest and World's Toughest events completed. In today's episode, we talk about each Toughest Mudder so far this year. We compare each Toughest with each other and get a preliminary answer to the question: "Which Toughest is the toughest Toughest?". We also talk with a podium finisher from each of the three most recent Toughest Mudder races. Tom Tweddell finished second at Toughest Mudder UK. He ran 45 miles in 7:23, one minute behind the first place Tristan Steed. Lachlan Dansie finished first at Toughest Mudder Australia. He ran 45 miles in 8:18. Lachlan has won the Australia-based 24 hour Enduro Race four years running. Kristopher Mendoza finished second at Toughest Mudder Midwest. In June 1968, Richard Robison, his wife Shirley, and their four children left Detroit and headed out of the city, expecting to enjoy a summer of fun and relaxation. Nine days later the family was murdered inside their northern Michigan summer cottage. The crime wasn't discovered for almost a month. Fifty years have passed and yet, one of the most mysterious and tragic crimes in Michigan's history remains unsolved. Why? Will the case ever be solved? True crime author Mardi Link dusts off the evidence she used to detail the crime in her bestselling book, When Evil Came to Good Hart, and shares vintage audio never before released to the public.

Can exercise support personal transformation … or is it really just about heaves, grunts, and getting into a beach body for the summer? I put that question to a popular Oakland coach, Will Belew. At his business, The Fitness Alchemists, he and his business partner believe that exercise can affect transformational change that include our beliefs, our attitudes and our overall approach to life. It turns out not only can exercise reboot your brain – it actually ‘cleans house’ as it moves through the brain tissue. Hence our positive feelings, our increased confidence, and our general mojo as we move forward from a good workout. Furthermore, exercise can teach the body new ways to adapt to life’s circumstances, whether you’re a vet who lost a limb or a middle-aged woman who needs renewed confidence. This wide-ranging conversation touches on everything from how a really good workout routine teaches us a patience to how to overcome the natural desire to crap out on the way to the gym. Will’s natural enthusiasm and downright passion for fitness left me inspired. I hope you are, too. Some of the things I learned from Will: Why a personal trainer or a coach is such a good idea, and maybe even a critical part of self care Why exercise is such a great thing to do when you’re grieving or going through a major life transition How brain cells ‘self clean’ as a response to exercise … and what that does for you Whether or not we have a ‘strength set point’ or natural range beyond which we cannot stray Inspiring stories of where a regular exercise habit has affected the rest of someone’s life What to say to yourself when you’re simply avoiding going to the gym Why Will works with groups, and what group members get out of that RESOURCES The Fitness Alchemists BIO Will Belew, a Coach and Co-Founder of The Fitness Alchemists in Oakland, California, brings an "elusive combination of high EQ [emotional intelligence] and deep knowledge" to his daily interactions with clients. His background includes industry-leading certifications in nutrition and strength & conditioning, as well as over 4,000 hours of hands-on coaching. He takes pleasure in his work with people from all backgrounds, including competitive athletes, corporate executives, public-school teachers, and people with Parkinson's disease to name just a few.
How can you make your trip life-changing? That is the topic we discuss with our guest Will Morgan from willfullyliving.com. Will is a traveler, writer, fisherman, and accountant. Alongside his wife, he spent ten months in 2015 / 2016 traveling around the world. For Will travel was always about more than simply seeing places. It was an opportunity to grow, to learn about himself, and to reconnect in his relationships. He approached the trip not as a vacation but as an intensive learning experience. From battling Dengue fever in Thailand to navigating European streets in a large RV, Will has some amazing stories to share. But beyond traveling he shares how we can approach our trips with a mindset to learn, grow, and return living a more intentional life. Topics covered: Why Will and his wife quit their jobs, sold their stuff, and went traveling How Will became a commercial fisherman in Alaska Battling Dengue fever in Thailand Challenges driving an RV around Europe How travel makes you more intentional How to get the most out of your trip How travel can change and improve your relationship Show notes featuring links mentioned in the episode can be found at theworldwanderers.com This episode is brought to you by Praxis.
