Food from a furniture store? I'm joined by Chris Grace from NBC's Superstore to tackle the largest furniture retailer in the world IKEA and their fabled Swedish Bistro which happens to be the 6th-largest food chain internationally! "Coffee and a biscuit" was where it all began in Sweden Despite being what they're known for, the Swedish Meatball (which isn't even actually Swedish) didn't hit the menu until the 80s, almost 30 years after open There were plans for a viking themed restaurant originally! Road trip to Utah! What a get! This week, I had the honor of taking Santa Claus himself to the restaurant that makes the absolute most sense to review with Kris Kringle: Arctic Circle. If you don't know it, think Dairy Queen Grill & Chill. They do the dipped cone thing but more importantly, they claim to have invented fry sauce Not only do we get the history of this chain and fry sauce itself, but there's a lot of genuinely fascinating Santa Claus lore that I didn't know! Hello Star Pods! This week Brie talks about the amazing Chef Suzanne Goin and her cook book, Sunday Suppers at Lucques. Trust me, you'll be drooling by the end of her segment. Then Shay continues on the food train just on a different track. She dives into the VERY deep internet waters of the yelper, where they complain about the best meal they've ever had.
Happy Pandemiversary, friends! It's officially been a whole year since the coronavirus took Manhattan, and in light of that, Ryan and Anna needed a stiff drink. Luckily, their favorite person to enjoy a bev with agreed to a cross-country Zoom call! Today's guest on No Reservations is Marcela: their former manager and forever friend who has an affinity for double tall Jameson & Gingers and for putting out fires. Literally. We literally talk about how many fires Marcela had to put out at our restaurant. Marcela is literally a superwoman: she juggled raising her daughter, teaching early morning yoga, and wrangling our chaotic butts for over a year which is why we've affectionately coined her: The Momager. Dani Natcher has a fun job. She helps businesses throw parties to build awareness and introduce the team to the public. She does this as a community ambassador for Yelp, the publishers of crowd-sourced reviews on millions of businesses. When we learned that Dani has such a unique job, we had to have her on the show. Dani works diligently with businesses and her 'Elite Squad,' which is comprised of active Yelper's who write consistently on the site. They're invited to events, product demonstrations and given the opportunity to meet founders and owners of local businesses. This conversation with Mark and Patrick led to some interesting insights into Dani's personality, her work with Yelp and what it's like being a recent graduate of Antioch University. Dani describes herself this way, "I am a very self-driven individual with an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for building, promoting, and creating small businesses." • Just received her Batcher's Degree in Marketing from Antioch, where she graduated with honors • She's a local from the 805 (Newberry Park) • Why does she wear a pendant of the state of California • What the Elite Squad is and how it works • Why Yelp has local ambassadors in communities • Her tips on local businesses that she sees doing a great job with their customers and the community: Good Cup on the Mesa, Educated Car Wash, and Pacific Press • How an event she produced at Brass Bear Brewing in Santa Barbara helped launch that brand locally. • She talks about her other projects, including XMO, Extreme Mobility Camps for the Blind • What does she look for when she walks into a business for the first time? The answer may surprise you. Dani is also volunteering for TEDxSantaBarbara 2017's event on November 11 at the New Vic Theater. She's the Food and Beverage Captain, helping to connect the local craft food scene to the event. We're looking forward to some innovation and fun as a result.
Helllooooo everyone! So we have to be honest, we absolutely LOVE having guests on our podcast! Not only do we think guests bring their awesome expertise to the table, it's also kinda like having an awesome excuse to hang out with super cool people we look up to in the industry! However, we also love the dynamic the three of us have together, without guests! We have three super unique personalities, and every now & then it's fun to just hang out in the studio without anyone else! This week, we realized it's been awhile since we've "checked in" with you guys, so we're chatting about all things US and giving you an update on some cool stuff each of your PhotoSpark hosts have been doing! Kate: In classic Kate-style, she's choosing to use her 5 minutes in the spotlight to vent about someone (ok she probably does vent more than the other PhotoSpark hosts, but venting keeps things interesting...right?). She chats about a situation where a client seemed to be taking advantage of a special "friends only" discount she offered after said client ditched out on the shoot. It's hard to explain via the blog, so you'll have to listen to the episode in order to understand what I'm talking about. Ashley: If venting about clients is classic Kate-style, talking about Yelp is classic Ashley-style and she doesn't disappoint this week! :) While Kate & Ashley both use Yelp to find clients, Ashley is definitely the main Yelper of the PhotoSpark hosts. Ashley did a small business webinar for Yelp a couple weeks ago as a guest host, and she chatted about how to get more reviews. Ashley chatted about 5 star process from start to finish, and the webinar was amazing! She had 500 RSVPs and it was very well received! Julie: Aaaaand here comes Julie with her super awesome travel stories! She was lucky enough to travel to Mexico for Melissa McClure's wedding last month, and she's sharing about it. She's notorious for scheduling travel around work, so she'll schedule a TON of shoots every time she travels, but this time she only scheduled ONE and it was for a close friend. So she chats this week about separating yourself from work while you're on a trip, and how important it is sometimes to disconnect & just enjoy yourself! We hope you guys don't mind the millions of mess-ups and bloopers in this episode... haha we're not unorganized, we're endearing... and quirky... right?! Anyway, please keep listening each week & subscribe on iTunes!! If you haven't left us a review yet, you can do that too! THANK YOU!!!
