Phil and Jeff welcome animator and filmmaker Alex Woo, co-director of the Netflix animated feature In Your Dreams. He talks about the foundational education in storytelling he received while working at Pixar, leaving to strike out on his own and chase the brave new world of streaming with Kuku Studios, and telling an emotionally grounded story -- while teaching kids about suffering -- through the wildly entertaining and absurd world of their dreams. They also discuss the unfairness of Simu Liu's talent; Phil's totally wrong theories about Stevie and Elliot's namesakes; that nasty, magical place behind the fridge; and will the real Alex Woo please stand up? Also: The Good, The Bad, and The WTF of making In Your Dreams.
Alone. A Kinky Love Story" auf Granit.
Director Alex Woo joins Nerdtropolis Mayor Sean Tajipour on Reel Insights to dig into the heartfelt, surreal, and wildly imaginative world of In Your Dreams, Netflix's new animated adventure about family, chaos, and the power of the dream world.Alex opens up about the childhood nightmare that stuck with him for life — a vivid, unsettling dream that sparked his fascination with dreams and ultimately helped shape the emotional core of the film. He talks about the early days of his career, from storyboarding on The Venture Bros. while still in college to bringing this dream project to life with co-director Erik Benson. He also reveals the surprising real-life origins of Baloney Tony — from “Butt**** Bear” to a stash-hiding My Pet Monster — and how those messy, funny memories helped inspire one of the movie's standout characters. Alex shares why embracing imperfection became such an important theme and why Stevie and Elliot's journey hits so close to home.Together, they dig into favorite moments, the absurd dream creatures, the heart behind the chaos, and what it might take for fans to get a sequel. And yes — Alex officially accepts his new title as the Ambassador of Nerdtropolis. In Your Dreams is now streaming on Netflix.Visit Nerdtropolis.comFacebookInstagramTwitter

This week's episode of the Empire Podcast sees Chris Hewitt sit down with two actors who star in animated movies (and ask them both about their favourite things to do in London). First, Simu Liu Zooms in to talk about new Netflix family flick, In Your Dreams, plus his own dreams, and the return of Shang-Chi to the MCU. [21:38 - 38:30 approx] Then, Ke Huy Quan, star of Zootropolis 2, drops by to share his memories of working on Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom, and his theories about snakes. [57:06 - 1:10:54 approx] And, finally, Ben Travis has a lovely natter with Richard Linklater and Ethan Hawke, who have teamed up once again on Blue Moon. [1:36:55 - 1:49:54 approx] Either side of that little lot, Chris is joined in the podbooth by Helen O'Hara, James Dyer, and Alex Godfrey to chat about what passes for movie news in a week featuring the Thanksgiving break; review Zootropolis 2, Wake Up Dead Man, Pillion, Christy, and Blue Moon; and discuss the best movies set in Scotland. Does that mean Scottish accents abound? Jings! As ever, our apologies to the people of Scotland. Oh, and a famous detective drops by for a cameo. Enjoy!

For episode 265, I'm joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski working behind the scenes. Apologies for the short one this week, but Myles had to hit the road for a trip, so we squeezed the episode in where we could. This time around, we've both seen some things and are eager to discuss with the other, hence not delaying the recording. Myles has gotten around to Bugonia (my review is here, alongside my interview with writer Will Tracy here), while I've seen In Your Dreams (reviewed here), The Running Man (reviewed here), and Train Dreams (review to come soon). Throw in some questions and this episode, while under an hour, is still pretty packed...As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 265th one to date (here's to many more). Of course, feel free to revisit the previous installments by clicking the Podcast tab (here) on the top of the page. Plus, listen to us on Apple Podcasts (iTunes), Spotify, and other platforms. More to come each and every single week, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you for listening!

Movie and Q&A Session, Mystical Community Living Retreat with David HoffmeisterAs an introduction to the Turkish movie 'In Your Dreams,' David discusses the importance of mind training and clearing the mind. He explains that everything we experience in the world is a projection of our belief system, and it is crucial to be aware of this. David talks about the concept of the linear world of time and space, which Jesus teaches us is a projection of thoughts. He emphasizes that the Holy Spirit never comes into the body, and the world is a mesmerism, with specifics and opposites. The Holy Spirit uses the ego's puppet to communicate and heal, highlighting the need to loosen ourselves from this addiction to linear time and form. The movie "In Your Dreams," features Engin, a construction company owner, and his girlfriend and is a relationship-awakening comedy movie. The movie highlights the importance of autonomy, which is associated with freedom of the body and the person, but ultimately, true autonomy comes from God, as stated by Jesus. After the commentary, David takes questions and comments from the retreat participants. If you want to know more about David Hoffmeister and Living Miracles events, here is more information: https://circle.livingmiraclescenter.org/events.Join our online community: https://programs.the-christ.net/products/communities/tribe-of-christRecorded on September 30, 2023, at Living Miracles Monastery in Utah, USA.
