Tajikistan has been acknowledged by Freedom House as one of the worst human rights violators for years, but 2025 has seen Tajik authorities take repression to new levels. Eight former government officials and political opposition figures were convicted at a closed-door trial of plotting a coup and given lengthy prison sentences. In addition, a journalist was convicted of treason for reporting on Tajik citizens' opinions on Chinese influence in their country, and the OSCE said it would not observe Tajikistan's March 2 parliamentary elections because Tajik authorities failed to give assurances of accreditation. Joining host Bruce Pannier to discuss events in Tajikistan in early 2025 are guests Muhamadjon Kabirov, editor at Azda.tv, a media outlet run by exile Tajik journalists; Edward Lemon, the president of the Washington-based Oxus Society for Central Asian Affairs; and Steve Swerdlow, a rights lawyer who is currently an associate professor at the University of Southern California.

I love pulling all the consultants in, but I truly love pulling in Dana. think I shouted you out this morning. do. Wednesday core value shout out in our.   I know that we've done some podcasts on that. So if you're not already doing a core value shout out every day or every week, please by all means go listen to those podcasts because it's freaking incredible and Dana you truly are the epitome of ease within our company and for your clients and I just think you need to publicly shout it from the rooftops be Just recognized for that aspect of your personality. You truly do make life easier I know a lot of your clients feel the same way you are   so good at finding the easiest path for the systems implementation for whatever it is that needs to be done for us as a company. So Dana, welcome today. I'm so excited to have you here with me. Thank you for joining me on this beautiful Wednesday. I don't know what day this is gonna air, but it's a Wednesday today. And it's absolutely gorgeous here in Arizona. How are you, Dana?   Dana (01:08.193) doing good, Tim, doing good. love days like today.   The Dental A Team (01:11.629) I do too, I do too. It's starting to get fallish in Arizona, which means 85 degrees instead of the 105 that we had last week, least up in Phoenix. I know you get a little bit more fall down where you're at, but I'll take the 85 over the 105 for sure. Today, Dina, I wanted to pick your brain.   I've got some information today I wanna share with the doctors. It's also for billing departments, for treatment coordinators, for whomever wants to listen to this. But I really wanted us to shout out our doctors for really, really just knowing everything about their businesses. I know that you guys are all here listening. I know you're watching, whatever it might be, to really learn more about the business side and about what the team is doing to help support your practice. So I wanna shout you out for that. And I just think it's a really incredible tool.   and resource to have to truly know what it is that's going on, the inner workings behind the scenes of your practice, aside from just the dentistry that you're performing. So shout out to you guys for being here, for listening. Team members, if your doctor's not listening yet, please share it with them. Dana, today I really wanted to pick your brain and go over some coding information. I know it sounds super boring, you guys, but stick with us. We've got some great tips and tricks and some tools, especially for you doctors who are out there to really   focus in and pay attention to the things that are being input into the system and sent off to insurance companies, or if you're fee for service, you still need to be insanely accurate within your system and making sure that we're using the right tools. So doctors, again, this one's for you as well. Billing representatives, treatment coordinators, front office representatives, office managers, whoever you might be, whoever might be touching a ledger or an account or a code in general dental assistance, hi, Genes, you guys.   This is all gonna be really great information for all of you. Coding with Accuracy happens to be a book, by the way, you can purchase that. But honestly, coding with accuracy is incredibly important and valuable to your system, not only for the billing portion to ensure that we're accurately sending things off to insurance companies, accurately getting paid, but realistically to show super accurately what you've actually done with your patients to your patients. That way, if anything were to ever come about and anyone needed to look into it or   The Dental A Team (03:28.327) your patients had questions and they asked for the account, it makes sense to the next person who's looking at it. And you can say, yes, I did that, that was me. I did that filling, I did that crown, I did that crown seat, I did those pieces. I know a lot of practices, and Dana, I think you've probably seen this too, a lot of practices will overuse, in my opinion, an office visit or a palliative treatment, to certain codes like that and unspecified, because they're just not sure.   what to use. And so they throw one of those, especially office visits, and I'm like, what is this office visit? How many, this patient's been in for 20 office visits. They're like, most of those are crown seats or like if a filling needed to be adjusted or like, and I'm like, wow, so we don't have any documentation right here that we ever sat any of these crowns.   That's an issue. looking at those pieces and making sure that we're super accurate with what we're calling things is something I really, really want to talk about today, Dana. Have you noticed that as well? I know you see a lot of clients, you do a lot of virtual clients, but you see a lot of ledgers, you get a lot of things sent to you, and you have been traveling a ton this year in office to practices as well. So what are you seeing when you're out there when it comes to coding and just kind of like randomness that you're seeing thrown around?   Dana (04:40.983) Yeah, I agree with you on just like the miscellaneous codes. I delivery. What did we deliver? Because we need to know exactly what we delivered today. And then a lot of just like 999 things and sometimes a 999 code you absolutely   The Dental A Team (04:47.133) Yeah.   Dana (04:55.967) can utilize it, should be utilizing it, but oftentimes too, it's like, no, there's actually a code for that. Like we don't have to send a 999 with documentation and notes, there's a code specific for that. So making sure that offices really are up to date, also to like when things change because they do change occasionally. And so just having somebody who knows those things in and out has resources to spot check and that we are billing what we're doing and coding exactly what we're doing.   The Dental A Team (05:25.511) Yeah, I totally agree. The 999 code, I love that one. It is thrown in there for everything and I am guilty of the 999 code because I'm like, don't know what he's even talking about. 999, that sucker. And I'll explain, I'll say exactly what he just said to me. I have no idea what he said, but I've got this. So I'm surely, surely guilty of that one. I do love the staying up to date and doctors, I really want you to know and understand within dentistry.   There's not, like we have a course for billing that will review billing for you and will go over the basics of billing, what it needs to look like, how to send a claim, how to input an EOB and a payment and all of those pieces. But there's really not a good school for billing where it's like, gosh, I'm gonna send them to a billing school and now they've got this accredited school has shown them this kind of like medical billing, right? You can go to medical billing school and now you're a medical biller.   to be a dental biller, you just needed someone ahead of you to show you how to do it. So within this world, it's just super important, like Dana said, that we stay on top of it as best we can. So making sure that we're getting ADA emails sent to us and that we're watching for any codes that change, because they will let us know. Whatever your state's dental association is, I know here it's the AZDA, the California Dental Association.   Whatever it is, make sure that you're signed up for those auto emails, because that's going to be the best resource. And then as those yearly conventions come around that we all love to go to, that we hate taking boring classes, look for any updates. I wouldn't say you've got to hit the billing courses yourself, or you have to send your billing rep to the billing courses. Sometimes they're a bust. Sometimes they're super insurance prone or driven. I don't love that. But if there's anything that's like coding updates or   New laws things like that. It's always a good idea. So I do want to preface it with that Just know always staying up to date just getting those resources sent to you is going to be super super important And now aside from that there are things like coding with confidence coding with accuracy All of those different books that you can get I believe coding with confidence you can order from Amazon or ADA I think both of them have it. I think it probably comes from the ADA when you do it from Amazon, whatever you choose   The Dental A Team (07:37.7) It's a fantastic book and having that resource, there's a companion book that goes with it as well. I always had that resource with me. It was literally in a drawer behind my desk and as soon as I had something pop up for an implant or gosh, when we were doing over dentures and there's just so many parts and pieces and little things that need to be accurately coded.   There's no way I'm gonna remember all of these things or intuitively know it. So I would pull those books out constantly and I would go through it with my doctor and I'd say, okay, does this describe, is this what you're saying? Is this describing it? Because even just for regular dentures, there's different codes that can be used. And if you use one that's a maxillary but you're doing a mandibular denture, you're not gonna get paid, right? And even if you put upper denture in the thing and you did a mandibular code, they're still not gonna pay it because it doesn't match.   So just making sure that those codes are super accurate. Now from a doctor's standpoint, why is this important? Super important because you need to be paid, right? So my owner doctors, you need to be sure that your practice is being paid, that you're being paid for what you're doing, your hygiene team's being paid for what they're doing, and that if, again, anything were ever to have been and come about, somebody looking at the ledger, looking at the account, looking at the chart, can accurately and confidently see exactly what you performed. So not only do you need to get paid,   you need to cover your tail. For my associate doctors and even my hygienist who might be listening, you really, really wanna watch your production and your collections, because typically, especially my associates, you guys are gonna be paid off of that in some form or fashion. So making sure that the coding is correct and that it accurately, actually reflects what you've done is key. Otherwise, you might get paid for a filling when you did an onlay.   Right, and the billing representative, has, or he has no idea, they were not chair side with you. So if it's not fixed chair side, or if you, gosh, Dina, how many times have you seen this one, where chair side, you know, we were scheduled for an MO, chair side, doctor's like, this went into the distal, we've gotta update that. So we update it, we tell the patient, we're like, got another service added, get the treatment plan going, lay them back, finish the filling, and then they go up front, and then they get paid on an MO.   The Dental A Team (09:51.99) because the MOD was never switched out and the appointment went before it was set complete. again, the billing representative, he's not chair side. They have no idea that that billing changed. The dental assistant needed to update and change it. So making sure that that's accurate in there. Now, Dina, I know you have a lot of practices and a lot of associates. You've got a lot of big practices that have a lot of associates. How do you make sure at the end of the day, at the end of the month, at the end of everything, that these guys are knowing exactly what their   being paid on? Like how do you make sure that they know with confidence that they're getting paid for everything that they did?   Dana (10:28.329) Yeah, I have them usually daily check their provider production and check their individual provider day sheet just to make sure that everything was accounted for. If there were changes, if something was walked out inaccurately, catching that from the very beginning is super important because honestly, like you pointed out, the difference in some of these codes is hundreds of dollars worth of production. And that can be even within implant parts, even with indentures, like a difference in that   that coding can majorly impact production. So making sure that everything is accounted for, everything that they did is on there and everything is walked out and ready to submit. So that whether it's insurance based or we've got to call a patient and say, hey, you know, we under collected that service did change, we had added. whether it is patient portion that we've got to update or insurance portion, just making sure that we're catching that. And I like to do it daily because   Claims are submitted daily. We're reaching out to patients and we don't want a patient to go till the end of the month before we're like, hey, by the way, you missed a thing, right? So I like my, especially my associates and hygiene to just look and make sure everything's accounted for each and every day.   The Dental A Team (11:34.98) Yeah. Yes.   The Dental A Team (11:47.01) Yeah, I agree. think that's perfect because pulling that sheet, especially like Dentrix and Eagle Soft and OpenDone, like all of these programs have a super easy sheet to print at the end of the day or even like print screen and then just look at it. So we're not using all the paper all the time. I've definitely had it where a doctor will come back like a week later and be like, we didn't actually do a buildup because we just, you you treat and plan a crown and we should plan a buildup just in case, or you have your doctors who treat and plan only a crown and then add a buildup.   if we needed a buildup and so vice versa. A week later, we're like, I didn't build up on that crown. I'm like, well, bro, she gone, she lost. There's no way, it's so uncomfortable to call a patient and be like, by the way, we forgot to charge you for that billing that's underneath the crown that's to build the tooth back up because of the K. And now I'm in this whole conversation of like, why didn't this just get done the first time? So I totally agree. I think that's brilliant. And doctors also, looking ahead at your schedule,   Dana (12:21.687) It was true.   The Dental A Team (12:43.172) Prepping your schedule in conjunction with that is gonna be huge. We get really comfortable. Our dental assistants are incredible. I was a dental assistant near and dear to my heart. It's my favorite position. If I were ever to like quit everything in life and go back to in-office dentistry, it would have to be as a dental assistant. I would not do anything else. It's my favorite space. But you guys, I messed up sometimes. Like it happens. I would get forgetful.   Like how many times did I forget to grab the bond? And I'm like, you can't do a filling without a bond. How did you forget that? And then expecting me to change it every single time in the chart or make sure that it was accurate ahead of time. Things flip through the cracks. So we've gotta have checks and balances. We can't just rely on one person to get it right every single time. So your dental assistants prepping the charts, prepping your schedule for the next day is huge, but I really wanna implore that you guys, you doctors,   You are looking at your schedules as well. You know what's coming up and you know that it's accurate. I had a dentist that worked in our practice. He's fantastic. He's gone to all of this oral surgery, like extracurricular. He's just, it's insane. I watch his videos on Instagram and I'm like, that's so gross. I always must do him. Like I remember the first time I did a bone flap with you and I was like, what? I can't do this, but he's so good. He did all of these like perio surgeries, oral surgeries. He did so many things in our practice and holy cow.   A GP girl over here, learning how to code for all of these extensive procedures that he was doing. He was doing, you know, he's doing the blood draws before it was even a thing. I am like, are we allowed to do that? Like I'm in my practice, like what the heck? This is crazy. And now I'm having to code things that to me are like outlandish.   and I'm sitting there Googling things. Like, this doesn't make sense. So I'm pulling out my little code book and like, gosh, it is in here. This is a dental thing. We can do this, but there's no way those added procedures would have been accurately coded if I didn't take those extra steps to ensure it. And if he didn't, bless his heart, come to me every day.   The Dental A Team (14:47.322) with a list of the things that needed to be added to tomorrow that wasn't accurate or things that we missed today. He would double check his treatment plans just because they were so extensive. And honestly, there were times, like he did GP work in our practice as well. So there were times too where he would catch a filling surface was missed or an onlay surface was missed. And I'm like, dang, not only are, you know, did we miss something on your giant surgery over here that I literally cannot assist with, cause I will pass out.   But we also miss like a surface on an online, like, goodness gracious, right? But he is my example because he was so diligent about making sure that the charting was accurate. Like, of course he wanted to get paid for the things he was doing, but he's like, I need to make sure that whatever it is that I'm doing, it's all here. It's all accounted for. And when he went to go do all of the accrediting with the oral surgery boards and implant boards and like, he's got all this crazy stuff behind him now. He needed all of those things. He called me from Texas years later.   And I was like, remember that patient that we did that thing? And I'm like, my gosh, yeah. So I'm like looking for this patient. He's like, I need all of their notes and I need all of their ledger and I need everything to submit to the implant board. And I was like, my gosh, thank goodness we went through and did all of those things. So you guys, it doesn't matter what you're doing. You don't have to be doing crazy dentistry or crazy oral surgery within your practice. Those minor things need to get caught as well. And Dana, earlier you mentioned like the 999 code.   And I know we have to go in or have the auto updates done and make sure that the codes are being updated. But I did notice there are more and more systems that even have as simple as broken appointment code already in there, Crown Seat Code, Denture Seat Code, all of these pieces. So when you're working with practices and you're seeing this, or they ask us, we'll get text messages from office managers that are like, this is what he said, what do I code that as?   I don't know, right? But what are you doing? How are you helping them to figure out, this is probably not a pallet over 999 or what an office visit, this is probably X, Y, or Z.   Dana (16:52.117) Yeah, I mean, I'll be honest, if a lot of times I am pulling like a coding with confidence, or I'm googling things and, I'm trying to piece it together or I'm asking, you know, okay, well, like, walk with what does that look like? Walk me through like, can you explain the process to me? So maybe I can find it in here or send me a picture of the part that maybe I can look it up. But it's really just doing due diligence and combing through the codes that are available. And then determining   The Dental A Team (16:58.797) Yeah.   The Dental A Team (17:10.987) Yes.   Dana (17:20.083) If there is a specific code for that procedure and if there's not, then yeah, you do a 999 code with lots of documentation, IOPs, all the things, so that once it gets to insurance, they can determine if it's something that they're covering.   The Dental A Team (17:35.266) I agree, yeah, I love that. I do love Google, I have Googled so many times. I've been in office trying to help them come up with cheat sheets, which is the next little topic here, but that I'm like, what is this? Or give me a picture of this so that I can put it on their cheat sheet. And doctors who are doing things like implants or dentures even, crowns, anything you're doing, having those cheat sheets is super helpful.   I have a lot of my practices throw those into their operations manual. So with the crown setup or whatever, it'll also have the steps and the codes that would be used. We have to update it when they update, but have all of those available there side by side with it. So it'll be like, crown seed, and it'll be the setup, and then it'll be all of the codes. The ones that get wild are our implants, right? Our All-On-X denture cases. Those ones get wildly insane.   dentures, right, start to finish because what happens is in the treatment planning mode, let's use denture, right, as a treatment planner, right, so I'm a dental assistant and the doctor says we need to do a full denture. Cool, maxillary denture. And then I'm like, treatment coordinator, here you go. And they're like, cool. And then they schedule a denture. There's like 16 steps sometimes to a denture.   Right, so having that and being able to break it down and break it apart shows that all the steps and processes were done and then having a cheat sheet that goes along with it helps not only your treatment coordinator and your scheduler, but it helps your biller and your dental assistant, even your hygienist. I've had so many hygienists come to me and say, what step are we on? And I'm like, well, I'm not sure, let's look. Like, let's look at our checklist and see where we're at. So even within that denture, having the denture treatment plan for pricing.   Dana (18:56.011) Yes.   The Dental A Team (19:24.294) Obviously, right, any extractions, any bone grafts that need to be done. If you're doing a temporary denture before the final is done, if you're doing, gosh, if you're doing a scan and a final delivery, like they're getting much faster. But before, remember, we had to have a wax rim, we had to have teeth and wax, we had to have the color shade, we had to have a try-in, then we had to have a realign. Like all of these pieces needed to be segregated out in there so that we treatment plan.   the one thing, but we have those steps readily available so that it can be scheduled correctly and in order. And then having those cheat sheets with those codes lined up is super helpful. I have a practice in Wisconsin that was just getting so confused on the implant process and an ortho process. And I was like, easy peasy, let's just like section this out. And now every single time they've got it laminated and they just pull it out. They're like, I've got my implant sheet. I've got my ortho sheet or whatever. So I always have them add that as well. So Dana.   Wrap it up for us. So we've got coding, checking, all the pieces. What could an office do, a doctor do to ensure maybe even adding it to their operations manual? What's the process they should make sure that is being followed and updated yearly within all of these pieces that we've talked about today?   Dana (20:42.627) Yeah, I think it's added to your yearly calendars that you make sure that you do know the updates you have the codes every year and just like we get Insurance fee schedules and we do all of our insurance updates just add that to that list one So add and make sure we've got do we have the resource for it? And do we know what they are? I think to any time that you are adding a new service just checking and double-checking that you know what the codes are So if you're bringing in a CBC team, make sure that those codes are in there and you've got fees attached to them   and all of those pieces. I love your cheat sheet idea as far as especially where there's a there's a lot of nitty-gritty things that need to get built out for specific things like ortho-like implants making sure that you've got cheat sheets and you make it really really easy and then make sure you've got a very clear communication system for when treatment changes so that it gets changed all the way okay and then I think daily having people look at them and just one   Final tip I guess in in with your cheat sheets oftentimes we call things things that like are not in the code, right? The description of the code is not that and then we're constantly like, what are they actually? What do they actually call right? A lot of your systems will allow you to add notes to like those procedure codes put in what you call it in the office so that it's easy to find it will still put the actual code definition on your piece going on your claims go out, but if you call something something specific   just update it in your system so it's easy for the team to buy.   The Dental A Team (22:12.623) That was brilliant. I know my dentist had like five different terms for a hater bar and I never, was like, I don't know what you're talking about. And the Ribon, he would call the, you know, the Perio procedure by the name of the material he needed. And I was like, so, and he only do this once every, I don't know, 10 years. Like this procedure is never done. He's like, we've got to do a Ribon. Where's the Ribon? I'm like, I don't even remember what this is.   I don't know what that says. So yes, I agree. I love that idea, the descriptions and making sure too then I would transfer. We do this in our Google Drive, you guys. Whatever you might call it, also probably put that on your cheat sheet, maybe in parentheses. Like this is what it is. These are the five different terms that any of our doctors may call it so that it is easy to find and easy to figure out. I think that's brilliant. Awesome, thank you for wrapping us, Dana. I think this was insanely beneficial for all of our doctors out there and our team members again.   Doctors, if you're here listening, congrats. I think that's so huge. It's really important for you to know and understand these things. Share it with your team, because they can use these pieces too, especially anyone who's doing your billing and your practice. And then team members who are out there whose doctors haven't heard this one yet, share it with them. Make sure that they understand what they're getting into as well, and that they're supporting you in your position as a team member to be super accurate, because you're depending on them.   to get things right so that you can do your job. So share it with them. Make sure you guys are all up to date and as always, reach out for any questions you might have. Hello@TheDentalATeam.com. We are not code masters, but you guys, we are solution masters and we will find the answers or find the way and we can help you with just about anything you can think of. Review the podcast Transcript: Tiffanie (00:14.535) Hello everyone. We are so excited to be here with you today. I have with me my fave.   Dana, Dana, you celebrated your birthday recently. I know we already talked about it on the podcast, but I thought about you all weekend and how was it? How loved and special did you feel? You have this incredible family and these kids that just like pour so much love into you and a husband who loves you to pieces. Like how was it? I know you didn't do anything super crazy special yet for your birthday. That's in the works. And I know you had a ton of sports, but how, how was your birthday weekend?   Dana (00:49.276) It was awesome and you're right, like my celebrations are coming this weekend, but I just got extra quality time with family, which I always love. And when your birthday falls, near Father's Day, right? Just sharing that extra time. So just lots of family love, lots of quality time, and it was a great weekend.   Tiffanie (01:07.079) I love that. Yes, you're right before Father's Day typically, right? And I'm right before Mother's Day, so I totally get it. And then we get like everything gets smashed together. And I think on Father's Day too, like you're like, I don't want to take away from you and your day. But you know, I'm a big birthday person. So thankfully, it's Mother's Day for me and not Father's Day because that would be a hard decision for me to make.   Dana (01:23.196) Yeah.   Dana (01:34.78) I love the honesty tip.   Tiffanie (01:37.799) Yes, yes, and you know, my boyfriend knows that. He's very well -prepped and he does really well. I spent a lot of time when we first started dating, ensuring that he understood how important the birthday time period was. And that's everybody's birthdays. I like to celebrate everybody's, but specifically my own is like a holiday for me. Dana, I wanted to, before we really dive in, I really wanted to chat with you and really see how things are going in your world of consulting.   You have so many practices that you work with constantly. Doctors that you do one on one with. I know you do a lot of virtual within our company and you do travel. You have quite a few travel clients this year that got put on your schedule that you're just, I mean, I'm like you're on the road all the time and I love it personally. I love seeing somebody else on the road as well. How are things going for you? And then also I know we have our newest virtual product and kind of coaching that,   you've helped lead a lot of those coaching sessions for and really jumped in and helped to answer a lot of the doctor community questions and things like that. So from your standpoint, how are things going this year? We're about mid -year. How are things looking for a lot of the practices that you're working with one -on -one?   Dana (02:53.372) Yeah.   Good, I love, I just love the opportunity to be in office with teams. It brings a different dynamic that I'm used to. Of course, I love my virtual clients equally, right? But I do love the in office visit, so I'm excited for that. I think this year has been a little bit different. I think that, you know, there's economy concerns, there are hiring concerns, there are short staffing concerns that we've been dealing with for about the last year to two years. But I do feel like this year,   Tiffanie (03:05.031) Yeah.   Tiffanie (03:22.407) Yeah.   Dana (03:24.11) This is a pivotal year for a lot of practices and so I'm just super excited to get in there to help, to grow, and to be a resource to all of them.   Tiffanie (03:34.023) Yeah.   I love that. I love that. I think you're right. That's definitely something that I've seen with a lot of the practices I've been working with is just the hiring degrees and what that looks like and the weather and the forecasting within that department is really difficult right now. And I think it's just something that it's the world we're living in right now. And it is the way that it is. So doing the best that we possibly can. I know that you and I have done a lot of onboarding and operations manual and employee handbooks.   kind of conversations this year. So I think that's really beneficial for a lot of our listeners. And I think that they've been able to get a lot of value out of those things. And then also something we've been working really, really hard on ensuring is that everybody really knows how to read their overhead, how to kind of manipulate those numbers within the overhead and how to make sure that they're staying on track and that their company and their business is still seeing growth even when there are things that are out of our control. Where I think before, like the team aspect was something that   that we could really count on being there for the most part. There were so many of us in the dental industry that were like, she's going to be here forever. And that's never something we want to count on. We don't want to be people dependent. We want to be systems dependent. And I think right now's climate tells us why we preach that and why we have been preaching that for so long. But it's just such a different space that we're living in right now than we've ever lived in within the dental industry before that I've been here for the last.   20 whatever years, we're not going to put that out there. But.   Tiffanie (05:07.239) It's just a little bit different. So I think something I've been working with my doctors a lot on, and I know you do as well, is really starting to prepare and get ready for what you want your practice to look like. So at the beginning of the year, we set a ton of goals. And we work backwards from those goals to really figure out where we should be at every mile marker throughout the year. So every half year, every quarter, every month, every day, kind of re -engineering those numbers and those trackable items, whether it's number of fluorides,   or number of implants placed or dollar amount that we're producing or collecting. We're always working backwards from that. So something that I've added in for a lot of my practices and something we're heavily looking at now being about midway through the year is the CE opportunities that our doctors are taking. And I think one, my big, my big...   Reminder right now is, again, we're about halfway through the year. And if you don't have your CE done already and you don't have your CE planned, this is your reminder to start preparing for that. And I wanted, Dana, I wanted you and I to really just kind of go through some tips and tricks that we've utilized with some of our practices we work with all the time to help them narrow down and figure out what they're going to do. Dana, I don't know if you've experienced this or not, but I have a few doctors.   who love to learn. I think most of my doctors just love to learn. They're constantly in the education phase and overload and overwhelm themselves with CE. And Dana, have you seen, I've seen a couple of my doctors that just do so much CE in like two to three years. They just jam pack it and then they're like, I can't do any, Tiff, I can't go to another course. I can't go to another class. I can't implement anything else. I'm spent.   I'm just done for. Have you seen that, Dana?   Dana (07:00.38) Yeah, I've definitely seen that and then I've seen two doctors that like they do all of it but then the implementation like it never gets there and it's like well that was great to learn and like I'm super excited about it but I didn't actually bring it into the practice.   Tiffanie (07:07.815) Yes.   Tiffanie (07:14.183) I totally agree. I totally agree. And when we're like, I feel like it's like a tsunami when we just, we get overloaded, right? And I know we do book club every month in our company. And sometimes I even get to the point where I'm like, I need a little bit longer between the book, like where I'm at now and the next one, because I feel like if I move on, I'm just consuming at this point and I'm not actually utilizing or implementing the information that I'm getting. And so I think CE is the same, right? It's similar.   And I think we have a tendency, right, as human beings to take in as much as we can, and then like our brains decide subconsciously what we're gonna retain and what we're not. And then we're like, I never, I do this all the time where I'm like, I've never heard that before in my life. I'm like, actually I've heard it like 15 ,000 times, right? But today it's stuck. And I think CE is very similar for doctors where you really just need to know what it is that.   you need to know. You can't just go in blind. You can't just go in thinking, I just need to soak up all the information. And for our newer doctors, that's really hard to figure out because there's so much information. There's so much to do and so much to learn that you didn't get in college yet, right? At university, you didn't get all of this stuff. And so you're coming out, and you're just inundated with all of these options. So Dana and I, you and I did a lot of research.   podcast recently. I'm really proud of it. It was a really good podcast. We've done some really great podcasts recently, but we did a podcast regarding budgeting and the PNLs. And so I want to remind everyone to always go back and listen to other podcasts that may not seem like, my gosh, this doesn't seem like a relevant topic for what I'm looking for today. I'm looking for CE. That's why I'm listening to this one. Like Tiff, don't be crazy. I hear you. But there's a budgeting one in there as well that we discussed CE budgets.   And I think starting with a budget is huge, because Dana, I think we've also both experienced the situation where doctors are consuming so much that it's becoming a financial burden, where it's like, I can't, Tiff, I can't afford to go to any more classes. Dana, have you seen that with some of your practices as well?   Dana (09:25.5) Yeah, absolutely. And sometimes it is they can afford the actual course, right? Or they look at just the cost of the course and not necessarily all that is involved in the course, the travel, the hotel, the food, all the things, because some of these courses are over several days, right? So there's added expenses to them. And so I do agree with you that like the budget is the first place to start.   Tiffanie (09:46.247) Yeah, I love that. So go listen to that one. And then Dana, you mentioned implementation as well. And it made me think, I did a few months ago, I think it was a few months ago, I don't even remember now. And we can probably pull the podcast numbers and put them in the description here. But I did a podcast with Dr. Dave Mogadam. And I've worked with him for years. He's one of my prized possession clients that I will just always work with. And he did a really great podcast with me in regards to actual   implementing the information that he's gotten from a lot of the courses that he's done. So if you're looking for a CE, you're looking for ideas and information, this podcast obviously is going to be a good one. But then Dave and I, Dr. Dave and I actually did run through a lot of the CE that he's done and how he's been able to implement it. So that was actually a really good podcast. So go back and listen to that one as well. So when I'm helping my clients to differentiate or my friends, my doctor friends, they're like, Tiff, I just don't know what I want to do.   I wanted to go through, Dana, some of the ways that we help them narrow down what it is that they should be doing. So I think we talked budget. So budget number one, but budget doesn't always mean cheap. Budget doesn't mean don't do the expensive ones. Budget doesn't mean do only the ones that are $1 ,000 or less because you've got travel expenses. Budget just means to make sure that you're.   saving and you're putting in another account like a CE budget so that you can do any of the courses that you want to. So my number one or my two things that I make every doctor do when they're choosing CE, it's not like a, you know, put my finger on that piece of paper and like which one does it land on. I want you guys to take inventory of what you actually like doing. I had a dentist recently, she called me.   And she's like, Tiff, I need CE. I need to ramp up my production and my practice. Something's got to change. Something's got to give. And I said, great. Let's talk about this. Let's figure it out. And she said, I'm going to go to a course for root canals because I refer a ton of root canals out. I said, OK, that's fair. Most GP dentists do refer a lot of root canals out. I'll give you that. I'm totally down with that. And then I said, do you like doing root canals? Does that light your soul up?   Tiffanie (12:05.607) And she goes, no, I hate them. And I said, OK. I said, I hated them too when I had to assist them. So I get it. They're tedious, and they're annoying, and I'm not even doing the work. And she said, no, I absolutely hate them. That's why I referred them out. And I said, OK. Then why are we bringing it back in office? I said, do you think that you're going to be efficient and effective with root canals even after going to a course if you dislike them? And she said,   No, I don't think so. It's going to take me too long. I said, great. This was a wonderful 45 second conversation on talking you out of a CE that's not going to do you any good. So it was great. And she changed it. She decided to go for sedation. And that's something she's very passionate about. And it's going to change the face of her practice. I think it's really cool. But I didn't talk her into that. I just asked the questions of, is that something that you actually like doing? So I make them go through and look at, what do you enjoy doing in your practice?   And then what do you want to get better at? So a lot of doctors love placing implants. And they're like, I just don't have enough implant opportunities. We can talk about that. We can create the systems to find implant opportunities. It's there. We're just not looking for it. But do you need to get more confident in placing implants so that you see the opportunities? Is that really what's going on? So I think taking inventory of what it is that you actually like doing.   And taking inventory of what you want to get better at is key, totally key. Dana, do you have doctors that you've had similar situations with or conversations? And then kind of taking that inventory as well, how do you help them go through that when you're working with practices?   Dana (13:47.388) Yeah, I actually just had a similar conversation to that and it was based on root canals, right? This doctor loves doing root canals, but the team was struggling scheduling them with her because one of the associates is much faster. So their automatic schedule default was to put them on the associate and she was getting frustrated because it is something that she loves doing and wants to do more of. So we did have the conversation about, hey, this is a great opportunity, right? This is where we want to utilize some of your CE budget because,   Tiffanie (13:49.735) Hahaha.   It's always ricking us.   Tiffanie (14:10.151) Yeah.   Dana (14:17.294) if this is something that you absolutely love doing and you just need to be more efficient at it, CE is a great opportunity for that.   Tiffanie (14:25.127) Totally agree. Totally agree. And there's so much CE out there. So then the next layer is doing the research on the courses. And I have doctors email me constantly, hey, Tiff, do you know of any courses that do XYZ? Do you know where this is? So we definitely use the similar or same tools as you guys have. I definitely pop on the Google, and I'm like, hey, find me this course. And I definitely help narrow it down. But the next phase there is really the research. And when I'm having my doctors research the courses that they want to do,   It's going to be based on interest. It's going to be based on time, right? Can they get to these courses? How long is the course? And how much time do we have to take off of work? Which, by the way, that should probably be added into your budget as well, time away from the practice. But we're also looking at who's hosting the course. Do we know anything about?   this company or the doctor or the individual, it's not always even just a doctor, who's hosting and who's putting on the event, who's giving you the information, who's teaching and training you for this. Do you know anything about that?   Do you have any reviews? Are there reviews you can find online? I know there's a lot of doctor forums. We have our own doctor forum. If you're not a part of that collaborative team, then let us know, reach out, and we can let you know how to get in there. But there's so many different doctor forums. Facebook, there's all kinds of spaces to ask the questions. So do the research, figure it out, ask your peers. One, if they've ever done the course, if they've ever heard of this doctor, whomever is putting it on.   and if they have any good reviews on it. Dana, I've definitely seen, there's a rise I think in CE opportunities for sure. I think there's more CE opportunity today than there ever has been, but I've also seen a rise on, I don't know how to even say this, just I feel like kind of arbitrarily going to an event and just being like, that event was meh.   Tiffanie (16:27.943) And it's like, well, did we know anything about the person before we went? And I think that's not always a step we had to take before. And honestly, I remember back in the day when I was in practice, our CE came from the ADA event, the AZDA event that came every year. And we'd just go to the convention, and we'd wrap up so much CE there. But now there's just so many other opportunities. I think it's kind of flooded and making it difficult to narrow it down. How do you help your doctors narrow that part down to really   decide is this a good CE event? Am I going to get something out of it and is it worth the money?   Dana (17:03.356) Yeah, I think the first thing I say is just assess what type of class do you feel like you really need? If you're going to get more efficient at something, it might be better if there is a hands on portion versus a lecture, right? Or something in person that you can ask your questions versus virtual. You can certainly learn a ton virtually, but I think think about why am I going to this course? And so like what type of platform am I looking forward to begin with?   once you narrow down the type of platform you're looking for, whether it's hands -on, you know, just a lecture or virtual, then it is, like you said, do your research. Is there information on the speaker? Can you talk to somebody who has taken the course? Do you have a platform that you can ask those questions and making sure that even the bullet points of what is in the course align with the reason why you're going or doing it in the first place.   Tiffanie (17:56.135) I love -   I love the idea that you said of making sure that it's hands -on if you need hands -on like you're a root canal doctor who wants to get more efficient and better at root canals and he actually enjoys them. Huge benefit there. Most doctors are on the other side of the spectrum, so it's why endodontists I think do so dang well. You're welcome. But that's huge because if they go to a course or a lecture where they're just listening or they're watching online or they're watching root canals happen,   live in front of them, but they're not participating. It's not a live course. It's all kind of digitalized. It's hugely different because you're not practicing. So it's kind of like trying to learn. It's expecting your team to learn new verbiage skills and be really proficient at it and get it spot on every single time without ever role playing.   So if you're going to these courses, an implant placement course, and I've had plenty of doctors come back from an implant course, and they're like, it was OK. It was just a lot of lecture. And I didn't actually get my hands dirty. I'm like, well, do you feel more confident? They're like, no. I feel like I have maybe more information, more clinical knowledge stored up in my brain. But I don't actually feel more comfortable doing it. But when they go to a hands -on implant placement course where they're placing 30 implants in a weekend on real humans,   that the company has vetted that needs these implants, that's when they come back and they're like, I'm ready to place an implant. And now you have X amount of implants backing you up. Because I think.   Tiffanie (19:31.239) I don't know, I'm making this up perhaps because I'm not a dentist and I've never physically been in this situation, but I can only assume that when you've taken a course like implants or root canals and you've only done the handful that you did in your initial course, maybe you did five or 10 and you've placed one in practice, I would think in your head you're like, I have not done very many of these and I truly am not sure how this is gonna go every time you're getting in there. But when you go to a course where,   where you get to place 30 in a weekend, plus the ones that you've already done, you've got 30 trials behind you that you're like, no, actually, this is like second nature. It's like making someone answer the phone in front of you on a role play 30 times. They're like, OK, no questions asked. I know how to answer this phone call. And I think I've seen in my practices and my doctors so much confidence come from making sure that they went to a   CE that was one, super beneficial towards what they were trying to implement, and two, gave them some of that background and that experience that they need to really hold themselves more confident. Now, Dana, question, has this doctor been able to find a hands -on course for root canals that they're going, or are they just starting this process fresh right now? Yeah.   Dana (20:55.1) They're just starting the process fresh. But I did send a few resources that I think will be good.   Tiffanie (21:01.063) Awesome. That's so cool. Awesome. All right, guys. So.   I'm going to say one thing I see doctors do when it comes to CE is they look at their production, they look at their schedule, and they say, I want to make more production. I want to make more money in the practice, and I want to stop referring all of these things out. It's the first place people look. But sometimes they fail to think about, am I referring these things out because I actually don't enjoy them. Please remember, when you're for a job,   to do something that you hate that you really don't enjoy, you are going to be slower than someone else who loves doing it. Okay, so associates are great opportunities. If you have associates in your practice or you're considering associates, this is a great opportunity to get a yin and a yang. My doctor that asked that she's like, I think I want to do root canal. I'm like, do you love root canal? She said no, her associate loves root canal. So I said, great, let's send her to courses so she can get more efficient at it.   it and you do something totally different because actually you like the aesthetic and the cosmetic world and it makes no sense for you to go detour from that. Just stick with what you love. So watch what you're looking for. What are the parameters that you're basing your decision off of and really make sure it's something that you're going to enjoy doing. And you guys, you know what, caveat, you may not know if you like it until you go to the course and that's okay too. There's never a wasted CE course in my opinion because there's always some   thing that you can bring home. I had a client that was like, Tiff, this front office course we took was like,   Tiffanie (22:40.935) the worst thing ever. And I was like, okay, potentially for sure, but there's gotta be something that you were able to take away. And we dug through, we dug in, and they found quite a few things that if for nothing else, they were like, honestly, seeing how great our practices and the systems that we've been able to put into place together and all of the pieces that we have were on track and were ready to add to those. So they were.   Anyways, they were doing a lot of the things this course was doing, but they found pieces they could bring home. So even if it's a course that you get done with and you're like, dang it, why did I do this? Stop yourself right there. Look for the positives. What could you bring back to the team from that course? There's always going to be something. So take inventory of what it is that you want to do. What do you want to learn to do better?   And then what's going to be the best bang for your buck when it comes to a CE course? Always ask your peers for references, recommendations. Always do your research on the course and make sure that you know who's putting it on, who's teaching it, and their credentials so that you come out feeling even more confident. And then Dana, tell me again just a quick overview of three hot ticket items for a budget, and then they can go listen to our budgeting podcast as well.   Dana (23:56.636) Yeah, Hot Ticket IM Sir Budget is just knowing really truly what you can spend within your overhead on CE and then not just the price of the course, but what is the total cost, including the travel, the lodging, the food, of going to do that course. And then like you said, don't forget the production that it will cost for you to be gone or out of the practice.   Tiffanie (24:06.311) Yeah.   Tiffanie (24:19.527) I love it. I love it. Super actionable implement to implementational pieces. You guys, I hope that you loved this. That's a wrap for us today on CE. Please drop us a five star review with information on any CE courses that you guys have taken and you've loved. We are always looking for more information. Like we said, we get asked all the time from our clients and.   non -clients, people who aren't even with us yet, what kind of courses are out there. Gallup World Poll just released the results of its annual Law and Order Index, which ranked Tajikistan as the most secure country in the world. The poll was based on whether people “are confident in their local police, feel safe in their neighborhoods, and were victims of theft or assault in the past year.” The rating surprised some, and there is certainly another side to the story of law and order in Tajikistan. Joining host Bruce Pannier to discuss the situation are guests Marius Fossum, the longtime Central Asia representative of the Norwegian Helsinki Committee, and Muhamadjon Kabirov, whose family fled Tajikistan to escape political repression, and who currently serves as editor in chief of the Tajik-language news network Azda.TV, which is based in Europe.

Profesorka etnológie Marta Botiková sa zaoberá najmä skúmaním etnických minorít, historických a súčasných migrácií, problematikou rodu v kultúre a štúdiom rodiny. V minulom roku jej spolu so Zitou Deáky vyšla kniha Dievčatá, ženy na Slovensku a v Maďarsku (1955 – 1989), v ktorej podrobne porovnávajú rozličné aspekty života žien v socializme v Československu a v Maďarsku.

Vzniklo koncom 19. storočia a vytvoril ho poľský oftamológ Zamenhof, pod pseudonymom Doktor Esperanto. Esperanto sa dokážete naučiť v priebehu asi pol roka, má totiž veľmi jednoduchú gramatiku a obsahuje prvky z najrozšírenejších indo-európskych jazykov. 5 Acháb prikázal Obadjovi: Zájdi ku všetkým vodným prameňom a ku všetkým potokom v krajine. Episode discussion topics We're on the hunt for solutions and having access to clean and affordable water is critical to life. Although the drought is only striking the entire Southwest of the United States, everyone will feel it at the grocery store. We need bold new infrastructure using the latest in engineering to implement a better managed and more sustainable system than the one we inherited. One recommendation from Big Think proposes an interstate water pipeline system asking the question, "We have pipelines for oil and natural gas. Why not water?" How will a pipeline help? It will enable us to collect water from across the central basin of the U.S. and pipe it over or through the Rockies (think Tesla style boring system) and we might as well put some dang high-speed rails down as we go along too. The method of collection will need to be fleshed out, but it could as simple as directing the flow of storm drains into natural subterranean basins that act as a first-line filtration system. This water, as the case with most water, would need to be additionally filtered or treated for drinking. Thanks to ProPublica for this nerdy interactive page on climate maps. Check out how the quality of life within our nation will be changing with the climate from temperature to wetness: New Climate Maps Show a Transformed United States. We mentioned several water management systems that aren't as effective as they once were. Albeit going thirsty is mostly a local issue in the west, the whole nation's food security is at risk because according to the  California Department of Food and Agriculture, "In 2019 California's farms and ranches received more than $50 billion in cash receipts for their output. [...] California's agricultural abundance includes more than 400 commodities. Over a third of the country's vegetables and two-thirds of the country's fruits and nuts are grown in California." Similarly arid and drought-stricken is Arizona, which according to the AZDA is, "estimated to be a $23.3 billion industry." That's a lot of jobs and food for the nation on the line. Call to Action: Support new infrastructure programs as we need to build a new nation that can rise to the challenges of a changing world. Please use less water and begin planning for your own household's resiliency. Beyond investments in rewilding your landscape, it may make sense for you to invest in a rainwater runoff capture system or greywater reuse systems. There are larger-scale operations that need to start cutting back to have an outsized effect on conservation before it makes sense for people to have to make more draconian cuts in service. We usually know the winners in February, but held much, much later this year on account of the pandemic, the Oscars will air tonight (Sunday, 25th April)We had high hopes for the Czech movie “The Charlatan” by director Agnieszka Holland, which we also had the opportunity to see at the recent Czechoslovak Film Festival in Australia. Unfortunately it wasn't shortlisted in the Best Foreign Language Film category and neither was the Slovak movie from the Holocaust period “The Report” which according to critics also had a certain chance. In our common history, Czechoslovak filmmakers won the Oscar twice. Perhaps the best known is Oscar for a cult film with the unmistakable Jozef Króner in the main role of The shop on main street.

Veru, veru, hovorím ti: Hovoríme o tom, čo poznáme, a svedčíme o tom, čo sme videli, a neprijímate naše svedectvo.

Niekoľkí mnísi im vyšli v ústrety, aby dobrým slovom o svojej neškodnosti a ponukou jedla zmiernili ich zlobu, no márne. A naozaj, vo Veľký štvrtok 20. marca spomínaní Etiópčania znova prepadli monastier, ešte vo väčšom počte.
