We had the pleasure of interviewing Skating Polly over Zoom video! Skating Polly share “I'm Sorry For Always Apologizing” – a deceptively joyous rock song that is accompanied by the official music video directed by Christian Papierniak. The multiple award-winning director, producer, and writer best known for his hit Indie feature film Izzy Gets the F*ck Across Town brings the track to life with a humorous touch.“I'm Sorry For Always Apologizing” follows the raucous single “Hickey King” and is the second track to be taken from Skating Polly's new album Chaos County Line, which is set for release on June 23rd via El Camino Media. “Doctors don't think I'm sick / Just a self important prick” Kelli Mayo sings sweetly, sending up her past relationship mistakes with a cutting sense of self-judgement."This song has some of my favorite lyrics on the record" Kelli comments. "It was originally inspired by my very real habit of over apologizing, then the concept came to me to write it from a perspective of constantly hurting someone you're wildly in love with, which is a feeling I unfortunately know all too well. So, some of it is definitely hyperbole, but some of it is about my short-lived love affair with the bass player from Starcrawler. And the super huge prick I make myself out to be as the narrator is my big fear of how I must've come across to him and is also a furthering of many apologies I've given him on the matter..."Over the past decade, few artists have embodied the unbridled freedom of punk like Skating Polly. Formed when stepsisters Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse were just 9 and 14, the band have channeled their chameleonic musicality into a sound they call “Ugly Pop,” unruly and subversive and wildly melodic. With Kelli's brother Kurtis Mayo joining on drums in 2017, they've also built a close-knit community of fans while earning the admiration of their musical forebears, a feat that's found them collaborating with icons like X's Exene Cervenka and Beat Happening's Calvin Johnson, touring with Babes In Toyland, and starring as the subject of a feature-length documentary. On their forthcoming double album Chaos County Line, Skating Polly reach a whole new level of self-possession, ultimately sharing their most expansive and emotionally powerful work to date. The follow-up to 2018's The Make It All Show, Chaos County Line finds Skating Polly showcasing the depth of their growth, both as songwriters and personally. Whether they're opening up about matters internal (identity, disassociation, unhealthy coping mechanisms) or external (obsession, deception, gaslighting), Skating Polly imbue that outpouring with an unfettered emotional truth.Working again with Brad Wood, the acclaimed producer behind indie-rock classics like Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville, Chaos Country Line sees their songs journey from art-punk to noise-rock to piano-driven power-pop, matching that musical complexity with a sharply honed narrative voice that manifests in countless forms (ultravivid poetry, diary-like confession, fearlessly detailed storytelling, etc.).We want to hear from you! This is another of those shows that really has no format. It’s pretty much a rundown of the music I’ve been listening to around the house the last couple of weeks. There’s some great reissued vinyl by Thee Headcoats, Beat Happening, Bottle Rockets, and others. There’s old faves pulled out of the stacks by the likes of Jason and the Scorchers, Hypstrz, Curtiss A, and (shockingly) The Replacements. But I also made room for some new tunes, highlighted by the return of Minneapolis faves High on Stress with their new single, “Over/Thru”. I have no word as of this point whether it’s a sneak preview of a new full-length album, but I’m obviously hoping that’s the case. Other new tracks include tunes by Huck 2, The Downhauls, Lone Wolf, and The Tearaways. As for the “52 Weeks of Teenage Kicks”series, I aired one of the more interesting remakes that I’ve found of this fabulous song. The story goes that at some point many years ago, former Young Ones star Adriam Edmondson “accidentally” bought a mandolin. After learning a few chords he began to play a few old punk rock faves. This led to him forming a Celtic-leaning band, The Bad […]

For the 35th anniversary of Beat Happening's second album, JAMBOREE, we take a detailed look at how it was made. After meeting at the Evergreen State College in Olympia Washington, Calvin Johnson, Heather Lewis and Bret Lunsford formed Beat Happening and began releasing music under Calvin's K label. In 1985, they released their self-titled debut album, which was later was picked up for UK distribution by Rough Trade Records. As the band was gaining interest beyond the Pacific Northwest, expectations were higher for their second album. Right before recording JAMBOREE, they linked up with their tourmates, Screaming Trees, in Ellensburg, Washington and recorded a joint EP in one night. They worked so well together that Beat Happening asked Screaming Trees' Mark Lanegan and Gary Lee Conner to co-produce their next record, along with their friend, Steve Fisk. In this episode, Calvin, Heather and Bret describe where the band was at when they were playing live more than ever before and developing relationships with other bands in the punk scene. Despite their limited technical abilities and lack of equipment, they describe the enthusiasm and optimism they felt about being in a band together at the time they made JAMBOREE. Producer Steve Fisk offers his unique perspective on first meeting a teenage Calvin and going on to record multiple Beat Happening albums. Co-producer Gary Lee Conner describes the unlikely musical pairing of Screaming Trees and Beat Happening but how they were kindred spirits, being outsiders with a shared DIY philosophy. From one borrowed distortion pedal to Screaming Trees as a cheering section to not understanding the concept of singing on key to the bravery of a cappella performances to the difficulty of having only one clave, we'll hear the stories of how the record came together.

On today's episode, I talk to musician Karl Blau. Originally from Samish Island, WA, Karl grew up in a family of amatuer musicians and at first thought he was going to be a fine artist. But by the end of high school, Karl was all in on music, and his band Captain Fathom began playing in Anacortes. It was there he met Beat Happening's Bret Lunsford and a pre-Microphones/Mount Eerie Phil Elvrum and they formed the band D+. Being part of the Anacortes music scene eventually led Karl to joining Laura Veirs' band, to working at K Records' Dub Narcotic Studios, and to write and record dozens of albums of his own since the late '90s, which were released on labels like Lunsford's Knw-Yr-Own, K Records, Bella Union, and though Karl's own recording series Kelp! SuperCoze is the vibrant indie surf rock brainchild of Cody Choi, a queer Korean-American singer-songwriter from Seattle. SuperCoze released their debut album Rainy Day Sunshine – a vibrant blend of dreampop and surf rock with shimmering synths and beachy slide guitars – in March 2020 at the height of early pandemic pandemonium. SuperCoze is known for emanating a colorful candy-coated image while delving into more difficult conversations about mental health in their lyrics. In this episode, Izzy and Cody discuss how Choi found a way to connect with their mother through her punk record collection, their shared obsession with Beat Happening, their biggest problems with streaming, and the importance of refusing to limit yourself as an artist. ✨ KEEP UP TO DATE WITH SUPERCOZE ✨Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/supercoze/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SuperCozeMusic/Bandcamp: https://supercoze.bandcamp.comSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/7Eb6EnbNsHpuXa25264BeB?si=amwzp5VnRQiHmGa1bu4Wig✨ CONNECT WITH IZZY ✨YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCv6SBgiYCpYbx9BOYNefkIgWebsite: https://izzyshutup.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/agrrrlstwosoundcents/Twitter: https://twitter.com/missannthropei
Kurt Donald Cobain (February 20, 1967 – c. April 5, 1994) was an American singer, songwriter, artist and musician. He was the frontman of the rock band Nirvana, serving as the band's guitarist, lead vocalist, and primary songwriter. Through his angst-fueled songwriting and anti-establishment persona, Cobain's compositions widened the thematic conventions of mainstream rock music. He was often heralded as a spokesman of Generation X and is considered to be one of the most influential musicians in the history of alternative rock. This episode is based on Kurt's handwritten list of Top 50 albums, as featured in the 2002 anthology Journals. Note we included a song from each side of The Faith/Void split LP which brings our song total to 51. Lineup: The Stooges, Pixies, The Breeders, The Vaselines, The Shaggs, Fang, MDC, Scratch Acid, Saccharine Trust, Butthole Surfers, Black Flag, Bad Brains, Gang Of Four, Sex Pistols, The Frogs, PJ Harvey, Sonic Youth, The Knack, The Saints, Kleenex, The Raincoats, Young Marble Giants, Aerosmith, Germs, R.E.M., Shonen Knife, The Slits, The Clash, The Faith, Void, Rites of Spring, Beat Happening, Tales Of Terror, Lead Belly, Mudhoney, Daniel Johnston, Flipper, The Beatles, Half Japanese, Fear, Public Image Ltd., Public Enemy, Marine Girls, David Bowie, Wipers, Mazzy Star, Swans
Here it is!!! Matt & Scott finally get to the first proper release on Creation. (Quality takes time, right??!) Your hosts debate the merit of the (much-maligned-in-its-time) record that started it all, and then they talk to the man himself, JERRY THACKRAY a.k.a. THE LEGEND! a.k.a. EVERETT TRUE. Best known for his writing in the NME and Melody Maker, as well as for his and books on NIRVANA, WHITE STRIPES, and THE RAMONES, Mr. Thackray is a fascinating and Zelig-like character. And we LOVE his later (post-Creation) EPs (links below), so you'll hear a few clips of those as well. It's a sprawling and wild ride, but trust us, it's worth sticking around for the whole thing. There's music, there's sadness, there's drama, there's brushes with fame. It's got everything, even a live song. It's 2021! But not for your intrepid We Dig Music crew. We've stolen Doc Emmet Brown's DMC DeLorean and gone back to 1985 where we've been riding around in Sinclair C5's, wearing ridiculous baggy suits, and watching Live Aid on telly. We've also been talking about songs that sound like Adam Ant at the wrong speed, Guitars that sound like pointy spiders, & Electro classics performed in sadly missed Birmingham toy shops. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Ian's wife Lydia, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them to Colin's wife Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. Helen also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year. Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) - A-Ha!, Anthrax, Beat Happening, Kate Bush, Celtic Frost, Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, The Cult, The Cure, The Dream Academy, Everything But The Girl, Foreigner, Gene Loves Jezebel, Paul Hardcastle, Hüsker Dü, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Howard Jones, Killing Joke, Kino, Cyndi Lauper, Mental As Anything, Prefab Sprout, Prince, R.E.M., Saint Vitus, Skinny Puppy, The Smiths, S.O.D., Sonic Youth, Suzanne Vega & Tom WaitsFind all songs in alphabetical order here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7Mr106Uvvpqzt0p3nbBcvU?si=ztbbIDHNT4-yfL1l5LuskwThe playlist of 20 songs from the other two hosts was scored as usual, our favourite song got 20 points, counting down incrementally to our least favourite which got 1 point. The scoring of our own list of 10 is now slightly more complicated in order to give a truer level of points to our own favourites. So rather than them only being able to score as many points as our 10th favourite in the other list, the points in our own list were distributed as follows -1st place - 20 points2nd place - 18 points3rd place – 16 points4th place – 14 points5th place – 12 points6th place – 9 points7th place – 7 points8th place – 5 points9th place – 3 points10th place -1 pointHosts - Ian Clarke, Colin Jackson-Brown & Tracey BGuest starring Helen Jackson-Brown.Playlist compiling/distributing – Lydia ClarkeRecorded/Edited/Mixed/Original Music by Colin Jackson-Brown for We Dig PodcastsThanks to Peter Latimer for help with the scoring system.Say hello at www.facebook.com/wedigmusicpcast or tweet us at http://twitter.com/wedigmusicpcast or look at shiny pictures on Instagram at http://instagram.com/wedigmusicpcast We're part of the We Made This podcast network.
Junto a eles, montei o quebra cabeça e assim nasceu: Os caras do disco. Orlando tocava. E também, direto da Rádio Municipal Educativa FM, plugava Sebadoh, Iggy Pop, Pixies, Elastica, Mark Lanegan, Beat Happening, Wipers, Rocket From the Crypt, The Specials, Daniel Johnston, Mudhoney. The Number of the Beast", do Iron Maiden. Roteiro, edição e arte do episódio: Márcia Scapaticio.
Escuchar audio
Episode 147 features an interview with Quebec songwriter Gus Englehorn and his partner/drummer Estée Preda. Earlier this year, Gus released his debut album, Death & Transfiguration, a captivating record that’s characterized by Engelhorn’s surreal lyrical style and off-kilter vocal delivery. During our interview, we talked about some of the experiences that informed the songs on the record, how Gus transitioned from being a professional snowboarder to a musician, the process behind making the video for his song “Collbarbone,” and more. This episode features records from Elvis Costello, Buddy Holly, Beat Happening, Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, and The Velvet Underground & Nico! You can purchase Death & Transfiguration on vinyl via Bandcamp. It’s also available on all streaming platforms, including Spotify. Check out Gus on Instagram and Facebook!

Support us on Bandcamp: https://yacht.bandcamp.com/track/multi-family-garage-sale-single We're revisiting all our influences in quarantine. This is a cover of "Multi-Family Garage Sale," from Land of the Loops' 1995 7" single (and 1996 album, Bundle of Joy). This album made a huge impact on me (Jona) as it showed me that bridge could be built between DIY Pacific Northwest indie-pop and sample-based electronic music. If you're taking a lot of walks around your neighborhood right now, this is a great soundtrack for looking at the world and appreciating small things. "Land of the Loops’ Alan Sutherland was just another Minor Threat fan who couldn’t hold a band together until his conscientious parents bought him a sampler for graduation. The result was a couple of cassette releases and a CD for Seattle’s Up Records, Bundle of Joy, that lures Beat Happening’s Heather Lewis and others into what the Young Marble Giants might’ve done had they had the technology—a loop-driven basement party for the international pop underground." (Will Hermes, SPIN 1996) Credits Released April 11, 2020 Recorded, performed, produced, and mixed by YACHT Mastered by Timothy Stollenwerk
I first interviewed producer, musician, and engineer Steve Fisk for Tape Op issue #3 in 1996. Steve has made a name for himself, recording iconic tracks for groups like Beat Happening, Nirvana, The Screaming Trees, Low, and Car Seat Headrest. He's also been a prolific solo musician and member of the fine groups, Pell Mell and Pigeonhed. I met up with Steve as he prepared to move from Seattle to Tacoma. Enjoy! Calvin Johnson plays music in Olympia WA. For many years he's been running a record label called K records. He's been in many bands, Beat Happening, Halo Benders, Selector Dub Narcotic to name a few. I'm kind of a big fanboy during this interview. Thanks for listening. Try the other episodes too. This podcast focuses on independent music and the people who make it. Calvin Johnson special - talking about life in music, K Records, radio & much much more. Calvin Johnson is an American guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, music producer, and disc jockey born in Olympia, Washington. Known for his uniquely deep and droning singing voice, Johnson was a founding member of the bands Cool Rays, Beat Happening, The Go Team and The Halo Benders. As a prominent figure in the Olympia music scene, he was one of the major organizers of the seminal International Pop Underground Convention.

Loved having Bryan on the podcast to run through his songs. A long ago SXSW acquaintance, over the years I've seen him stay super busy in the music community of Austin. As a creator of Pop Press International, regular contributor at Austin Monthly, author of 33⅓'s The Beat Happening, and an English teacher, Bryan is all about unpacking the impact music can have on individuals. Jaybo sat down at a Seattle Teahouse and got the history of Olympia Wa's The Young Pioneers from guitarist Brad Sweek. They Have a record coming out on K Records called "High Again". Their sound is spooky, cool and melodic. The new Single "Sick Inside" is fucking great. We talk about a range of topics including Slayer, Dead Moon, Shannon Perry and the club formerly known as Tropicana. This interview is totally epic. I was happy to do it. Recorded at The Panama Hotel in grey and rainy Seattle WA the month of December 2016. Enjoy!

My guest this week is Weird Paul. He’s a Pittsburgh-based musician that’s been putting out amazing albums since the mid-80’s. We first met when we played a show together in Pittsburgh in 2005. He talks about releasing about his first homemade tapes in high school, and making his live debut at a Beat Happening show in 1988. He tells me about Homestead Records putting out his Lo Fidelity / Hi Anxiety album in 1991, and the confusion he felt after severing ties with that label. He explains the feeling of being on a windy/rocky path toward success, and says he feels more confident than ever that music is his calling. Mike Riley’s art this week is an homage to Too Short’s “Cocktails.” This episode is hosted by Splice Today.
In this super-sizzley inaugural episode, the NB&SCP Music Investigators take us back to the late 80's/mid 90's with the albums: “Jamboree” by Beat Happening, “Less Talk, More Rock” by Propagandhi, and “Not...
Calvin Johnson from Beat Happening in conversation with John Kennedy on X-Posure, Radio X
This week we had Mary Beth of The Baby Magic in the studio talking to Hex. We discussed the success and rise of women in music, ex's, and how to channel energy into music. Some artists grab your attention immediately, but fail to hold it very long. Others dig into your subconscious, until you can’t get that tune out of your head. When a rare band hits you right off the first note and stays in your head long after the record stopped spinning or the house lights come on, you know you’ve found some magic. And if you’re one of those artists that can conjure up that magic, you may as well put it in your name. There you have Chicago’s The Baby Magic. A trio of hyperactive yet hyper-articulate musicians bangin’ out the sexiest new-wave/no-wave jams you’ve ever heard, The Baby Magic enthralls the listener on their newest record “Rent a Place in Hell” as well as previous effort “Whoopsy Daisy.” Their songs conjure up the best moments of Beat Happening, Talking Heads, and newer groups like Death From Above 1979 without sounding redundant of anything that’s come before. Rather, they’re a harbinger for a new, enlightened, and – goddamnit – fun time. But if you want the full ‘Magic experience, find them in the sweatiest, sleaziest, skankiest bar you know and get set to release your inhibitions and find that part of you that your assistant principal warned you would end up on your permanent record. – Grant McKee, owner of Bucket of Blood
If this is your first time checking out the show, welcome! I created this hourlong FCC clean version of the show for KGPC 96.9 FM (aka 9th Floor Radio at Peralta College) in Spring 2015. I made some bleep sounds for the swearing and tried to pick the chunks that I found the most interesting. These are my talks with Calvin Johnson (K Records, Beat Happening), Ron Lynch (Adventure Time, Home Movies), Allison Wolfe (Bratmobile), Mark Gergis (Sham Palace, Porest, Sublime Frequencies), and Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu). You can listen to these in their unedited glory from the same place you got this episode. This episode lead to a short-lived (three episodes!) live radio show called Well Futile that is still housed over at KGPC http://www.9thfloorradio.com/wellfutile . I had to end the WF show due to some personal crises (aka a bunch of my records being stolen) but I feel great being back to this long-form format. Since April I also launched a podcast about documentaries with Paco Romane called 'Sup Doc, so check that out as well. http://supdocpodcast.com Theme music is "After God" by High Castle.
Bruce Pavitt was born 1959 in Chicago IL. At the age of nine, he sold Christmas cards door-to-door in the summer heat, earning enough money to buy his first record player, and soon after, his first record (“Revolution” by the Beatles). A lifelong passion for music brought him to the Evergreen state college in Olympia, WA, in 1979, where he spent time as a DJ at KAOS-FM. Soon after, he started his own zine named SUB POP, which reviewed hard-to-find independent rock recordings. In 1983 Bruce moved to Seattle, where he started the SUB POP indie music column for the Rocket magazine, hosted a SUB POP radio show on KCMU-FM, was a DJ at the infamous Metropolis all ages club, as well as the Vogue and Re-Bar.In 1984, he co-founded Fallout Records, the first indie rock record store in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. In 1986 he launched the SUB POP record label with the release of a compilation album: SUB POP 100, featuring NY’s Sonic Youth and Seattle’s U-Men. In 1988, along with business partner Jonathan Poneman, Bruce opened the doors to the SUB POP offices at First and Virginia in downtown Seattle. By the early 90′s SUB POP had released recordings by Nirvana, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Mark Lanegan, Beat Happening, TAD, The Walkabouts, Steven Jessie Bernstein and helped initiate a global interest in Seattle area music. In 2012, Bruce released Experiencing Nirvana: Grunge in Europe, 1989a photo journal documenting his travel experiences with Sub Pop bands in Europe. . IN 2014, a compilation of his early Sub Pop zines and columns entitled,Sub Pop USA: The Subterranean Pop Music Anthology, 1980-1988. Bruce Pavitt currently lives on Orcas Island in Washington State. In addition to working as the Creative Director at 8Stem he also keeps engaged in music by speaking at conferences and festivals, consulting with artists and music labels, and as a DJ.
Zum Podcast Episode 22 - Calvin Johnson ----------- Despite some technical glitches, I managed to preserve most of my conversation with Calvin Johnson. If you're not familiar with K Records and Beat Happening (which comprise the last chapter of Our Band Could Be Your Life), he's also been in the bands Dub Narcotic Sound System, Go Team, Hive Dwellers, and solo performance. We're driving across the new Bay Bridge and talk about comedy in Olympia and the Bay, major injuries, theater, the early days of punk, and of course K Records (including the Neo Boys reissue). Special thanks to Jaime and Thorsten for bringing Calvin to town and helping me close out the show. ------------ HIGH CASTLE - After God - Spirit of the West (Zum) (intro music) HALO BENDERS - Don't Touch My Bikini - God Don't Make No Junk (K) BEAT HAPPENING - Our Secret - Beat Happening (K) HIVE DWELLERS - Get In - Get In EP (K)

Hej, my name is Martin and I played drums for the Faintest Ideas/ javelins when we were around. These ögnhalsmottagningen that me and Stew Boyracer formed over the phone in late 2007. Apart from that I make hip hop/ dance music under the name Acid Lindgren, play guitar in a new band that might be called Anti-social Darwinists, Pretentious Assholes, Compulsive Record Collectors (or something completely different) as well as DJ under the monkier ADHDJ (thanks for the name Marisa). I live in Gothenburg, Sweden and one of my dreams is to one day have enough money to release a vinyl box of everything The Capstan Shafts will ever record. I am allergic to lactose, and think Chuck Reutter and Mike Spiegs should move to Sweden and start a band with me. Some of this stuff is actually true.1. Huggy Bear "Her jazz" (7", Wiiija/Cat Call, UK, 1993) – Huggy Bear is, together with Black Flag, Minor Threat, Bikini Kill, Boyracer and Beat Happening the most important and influential bands ever in my book. Everything about the band was, and is still so exciting to me, and why I never went to Emmaboda to see them in 93 still puzzles me to this day.2. The Carpettes "Small wonder" (7", Small Wonder, UK, 1978) – A totally perfect punk song (with a simple, but amazing drum beat in the chorus) that sums up everything that's so great about D.I.Y. in a few lines, so just sing along; "I don't need record companies that wanna rule me/ all of them think so obscene/ but I don't care about publicity/I just don't care for your generosity/ Small wonder/ they give you the bright idea to be a star/ you'll never make it, you'll never go far/ they say a good musician has gone to waste/ I tell you it's just a stupid taste/ Small wonder/ you talk about popularity/ d'ya think that it's a wise move?/ the useless generation knows nothing, so what does it prove?/ I can tell you straight to your face/ small wonder, the saviour of the human race yeah!/ Small wonder"3. Lockjaw "Radio call sign" (7", Raw, UK, 1977) – I can't resist to include at least one release from Lee Wood's Raw label as he released way too many great bands. This is the band that introduced Simon Gallup of the Cure to the world, and the song got enough energy to light up a medium sized Swedish town. Great drum rolls and fantastic Spaceward production.4. Svart "Otålighetens gräns" (7", Stranded, Sweden, 1980) - This song is taken Svart's debut EP, which is one of Sweden's finest post-punk releases. The band did an LP the year after this 7" was released, and even if the LP has some great songs it could never match the ones on their debut. I think this just might be the first Swedish indiepop record.5. Roadrunners "Love me as I am" (7", Beluga, Sweden, 1999) – The Roadrunners were one of Sweden's finest neo-garage bands that had everything I want from a band it that genre. They looked great, had great production on their records, and most important, they knew how to write killer tunes. All of their 7inches and EP's are well worth searching for, even if this is their best song in my opinion.6. Hormones in Abundance "Bad songs, bad people" (7", Heavenly Pop Hits, Sweden, 2004) – Bad people get the bad songs they deserve and in my opinion Patrik is one of the greatest song writers in Sweden. 41 seconds of indiepop perfection!7. Unrelated Segments "Story of my life" (7", Hanna-Barbera, USA, 1966) – 13 years before Dead Kennedys released "California über alles" these Michigan kids released this amazing slab of proto punk thrash, and in my opinion it seems like Jello Biafra owes quite a lot to the Segments lead singer Ron Stults when it comes to vocal delivery. This was the bands first 7" out of 3, and they are all equally great and intense.8. ABKK "Ronny" (7", EFMD, Sweden, 1981) – Fast, faster, fastest, weird, weirder and weirdest keyboard in the history of Swedish punkrock! This is released on the same label as Tuppjukk and Dom Vässade. EFMD stood for Enad front mot disco (United front against disco) and the label took lessons from Desperate Bicycles and printed the breakdown of the total printing costs on their record sleeves.9. Lars Langs "Chartertönt" (7", Pels-Votten, Sweden, 1980) – This song is taken from Lars Lang's only EP, that's thanks to a typo is called "Greatest Hit" instead of "greatest hits" and it's one of my favorite Swedish 7inches. 5 songs and they are all as great as this one.10. Mizz Nobody "Smittad" (7", DO 69, Sweden, 1978) – Mizz Nobody was Sweden's answer to The Petticoats or Poly Styrene and this is once again one of my favorite songs. Pay close attention to the amazing guitar sound she managed to come up with, and pay even closer attention to the killer guitar break in the middle of the song.11. Push Kings "Florida" (7", Double Agent, USA, 1996) – Together with Pants Yell! and The Remains, The Push Kings are among the best pop bands ever from Boston, and this is probably my favorite song by these well-dressed pop stars. Anyone who knows what happened to them; feel free to let me know.12. The Jumpers "My girl" (7", Dront, Sweden, 1982) – These young small town mods only released one EP, where this is the best song. It's not the best mop top song from Sweden by far, but it still got a guitar line and melody that I just can't resist.13. Lee Kings "On my way" (Flexi, Bildjournalen, Sweden, 1966) The Lee Kings was pretty much your average 60's teen band, but on this flexi they sure gave the Who and The Sorrows a run for the money when it came to feedback driven breaks. I'm pretty sure Stew Boyracer will like this one.14. Mecano Ltd. "Face cover face" (7", No Fun, Holland, 1978) – Here's some great and raw Dutch punk on the legendary No Fun label that also released one of the best punk records of all time; The Helmettes' "I don't care...". From what I can understand from their discography the band is still around in some form, but this 7" is basically all you need from them in my humble opinion.15. Boyracer "Where to place yr trust?" (12", 555, USA, 2009) – Boyracer is one of my favorite bands and Stewart is a great friend of mine, and not to mention an amazing song writer, so not including them in this set would just be preposterous. This song is takes from the LP version of Happenstance that was first released as a CD by HHBTM, but as the LP's got a few bonus tracks I highly recommend you to pick up a copy of this release as well as everything else Stew's got in stock before it's too late. In the songs I wrote for javelins/ The Faintest ideas I borrowed (or stole) so much from Boyracer that I owe them royalties for the rest of my life I guess.16. Von Gam "Hasse parasit" (7", Gam Produktion, Sweden, 1980) – Brilliant and quite noisy punk from these young kids from Hovmanstorp (situated next to nowhere) produced by Sticky Bomb from Kriminella Gitarrer and demon producer Pål Spectrum. This song is about a creepy bastard who only lives for profit.17. The Misfits "She" (7", Blank, USA, 1977) – The first recording by the Misfits is their finest moment according to me. I love that Glen played a Farfisa organ through a fuzz pedal instead of bothering with finding a guitar player. Sloppy card board drums, the way too loud mixed bass and Glen's amazing voice together makes this the best version of this fantastic song.18. Pizzoar "År 3000" (7", Massproduktion, Sweden, 1980) – The Faintest Ideas covered this song for the Yellow Mica compilation "Wearing our punk rock hearts on our sleeves", but our version could never hold a candle to the original version. No surprise there I guess, even if I really liked Christoffer's weird and one of a kind accent on our version.19. Milky Wimpshake "Dialling tone" (7", Ferric Mordant, UK, 1999) – Daniel who played guitar for the Faintest Ideas introduced me to Milky Wimpshake and for that I'm forever thankful to him. This is such a great song and I wish I could write songs as good as this one.20. Bugs "Bloody mess" (7", Bugs, Sweden, 1979) – A bunch of very young kids who had a drummer who never figured out how to use the kick drum, so they just ignored that part of the drum kit. The singer counts in the song by saying 1,2,3, shotgun! Brilliant!21. Kriminella Gitarrer "Vårdad klädsel" (7", Kloaak, Sweden, 1978) – This 7" recorded in December 1977 has been labeled Sweden's first punk record sung in Swedish. Two of the most magic minutes in punk record history!22. The Zeros "Radio fun" (7", Small Wonder, UK, 1977) – I listen to the radio a lot when I'm at home or at work, so what could be better than a song that celebrates the fun with radio? Most of the early releases on the Small Wonder label are equally great as this one, so do yourself a favor and keep an eye open for that label when you go through the records at your favorite 2nd hand shop.23. Bad Town Boys "Borrowed time" (7", Dionysus, USA, 1990) – The first time I heard this song I was sure it was a recording from the early 80's, but it's actually written and recorded during the late hair metal period and released long before the entire retro punk wave became fashionable. This is one hell of a song!24. Richard Berry and the Pharaohs "Louie Louie" (7", Flip, USA, 1957) – The BEST song ever written. Period!

De allí son Lloyd Cole, The Delgados, Camera Obscura, Franz Ferdinand, Orange Juice, The Rezillos, Belle & Sebastian, Snow Patrol, Travis o Bobby Gillespie. Nice Man & The Bad Boys – “Forever Is A Long Time Without”: Francis McDonald es Nice Man. Nirvana – “Come as you are”: Poco queda que decir de este grupo. 14.
