This serial killer case was a highly publicized case that took place in the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor Michigan area from 1967-1969. This case even resulted in some interesting case law due to being one of the first where there were questions of fair trial considering how highly public the case had become. This week take a listen to a band from the Long Island scene, Brand New. Formed in 2000, by bassist and drummer Garrett Tierney and Brian Lane from the ashes of Rookie Lot. The band consists of Jesse Lacey (vocals, guitar), Vincent Accardi (guitar, vocals), Garrett Tierney (bass guitar, vocals), and Brian Lane (drums, percussion). The band is recognized as one of the most influential within the 2000s emo scene, celebrated for making artistic statements with their music. When asked about his influences, lead singer Jesse Lacey referenced Lifetime, Foo Fighters, The Cars, and The Smiths. The band would listen to several bands while in their van, such as Saves the Day, Modest Mouse, and Green Day, among others. For this episode, we listen to Your Favorite Weapon, their debut studio album. The album was released on October 9, 2001. All of the songs on the album were written, within the band's teenage years with some songs being written two or three years before the record came out. This album was heavily influenced by a feud between Lacey and Taking Back Sunday guitarist John Nolan, specifically "Seventy Times Seven". Nolan wrote about the feud from his point of view in Taking Back Sunday's "There's No 'I' in Team". The name of the song is a reference to a Bible passage, specifically Matthew 18:22. Your Favorite Weapon was produced by a friend of the band. The whole album was re-recorded when the original recording was lost on a computer's hard drive. Toby Carrigan grew up in Indiana and played high school basketball at Rising Sun High School before a college career at Hanover College, where he played and then coached under legendary head coach Mike Beitzel. After one season as an assistant at Hanover, Coach Carrigan was hired as an assistant coach at Transylvania University for another legend in Don Lane, where the Pioneers were making the transition from NAIA Division I to NCAA Division III. When Coach Lane stepped down after the 2000-2001 season, he was unexpectedly succeeded by his son Brian Lane, who had been an assistant at Morehead State. Coach Carrigan remained as the top assistant at Transylvania through 2009. Following a two-year stint as the head coach at South Dearborn High School, he was hired at Mount St. Joseph, where he recently completed his 9th season leading the Lions. New studio; new guest, and one many of you said you were excited to hear: Brian Lane. He's one of Tourette's best, working as an educator who, partly via TS, ends up being the perfect kind of person to lead a class and relate to what his students go through. He even helped one find a Tourette diagnosis. Brian himself lived a rough and disconnected youth, but found strength as he managed his TS and cultivated his own special skillsets of performing. On this episode we talk about isolation -- the bad and the potential okay-ness of it -- confidence and self-advocacy in a not-always-understanding world. Tourette's Podcast is made possible by the Tourette Association of America, tourette.org.

At around 1:50am in the early morning hours of the 6th November 1930, two men were walking back from a Guy Fawkes dance in the centre of Northampton. They both noticed a fire in the distance. Both men dismissed it as it had been Bonfire night and a fire was not unusual to see. The men then noticed a man coming towards them dressed in professional clothes and carrying an attaché case. The men thought it was odd to see a man dressed for work at that hour but they conversed for a minute and the men parted ways. As they approached the fire they realised that it was not just any fire but it was actually a car engulfed in flames. The investigation that ensued was bizarre and led to a very baffling outcome.Important information provided by:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-northamptonshire-41886193http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-northamptonshire-30207217https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/leicester-news/how-cold-blooded-womanising-killer-1049530https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/01/140114091840.htmhttps://www2.le.ac.uk/offices/press/press-releases/2014/january/murder-mystery-remains-dna-rules-out-briggs-as-blazing-car-victimhttps://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/75730952https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/61589264http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-northamptonshire-17899027https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/724019/Northamptonshire-Every-tombstone-tells-a-story.htmlFurther reading:The Butchers by Brian Lane (1991)Murder in the 1930's by Colin Wilson (1992)Find us on Social Media:Twitter- @theunseenpodFacebook- The Unseen PodcastInstagram - TheUnseenPodWebsite www.TheUnseenPodcast.com
