This week, our guest is David Hobbs, Executive Chairman of Pantheon Resources PLC and Chairman of Proton Green LLC. David has an extensive background in energy research, having served as Head of Research at King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research (KAPSARC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and as Chief Energy Strategist at IHS CERA (now part of S&P Global Commodities Insights).  The podcast is a new game-style format this week, where Jackie and David engaged in a lively debate on some of the big issues in energy, with Peter as the moderator. Some topics they discussed include: How would a second Trump presidency affect NATO's future? How do the US presidential candidates differ in terms of energy policy? When is the end of oil? How would a Pierre Poilievre-led Conservative Party of Canada alter energy policy in Canada? How are the Middle East and Ukraine conflicts impacting the oil market? How will AI impact the future of energy? What will be the next acronym after ESG? Should any change be expected as the UN Climate meetings mark the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement? Content referenced in this podcast:Remarkable digital notepad Roger Pielke Jr. from the University of Colorado  Vaclav Smil, Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Manitoba Please review our disclaimer at: https://www.arcenergyinstitute.com/disclaimer/  Check us out on social media:  X (Twitter): @arcenergyinst LinkedIn: @ARC Energy Research Institute  Subscribe to ARC Energy Ideas Podcast Apple Podcasts Google Podcasts Amazon Music Spotify

In this episode of "Chuck Yates Needs a Geography Lesson," Chuck chats with David Hobbs, the Executive Chairman of Pantheon Resources, an independent oil and gas exploration and production company that somehow found its way to the icy tundras of Alaska. Pantheon holds sway over a whopping 200,000 acres on the Alaskan North Slope, making you wonder if they discovered oil or just a secret British love for sub-zero temperatures. With discoveries like the Kodiak and Ahpun fields in their portfolio, Pantheon is clearly on a mission to make Alaska more than just a cold vacation spot. And speaking of Brits, David Hobbs brings his British charm to the show, much like Chuck, who's dating a Brit and thinks he's now an expert on all things UK.Join us for this chilly, oil-soaked rendezvous, complete with an Alaska joke to warm your spirits. It's the podcast where oil, Brits, and bears (the Kodiak kind) collide in a frosty adventure of epic proportions.

Why might a poet set poetry aside for more than two decades and then return to it? What would the return sound like? When, as a young man, George Oppen stopped writing poetry, it was because, in his words, "I couldn't make the art I wanted to make while also pursuing the politics I wanted to pursue." David Hobbs joins the podcast to discuss "Ballad," one of the poems Oppen wrote upon his return to poetry. David B. Hobbs is an assistant professor of English at the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, where he is working on his first monograph, What Can You Do Alone?: Lyric Sociality & the Global Depression. He is also the editor of George Oppen's 21 Poems (New Direcitions, 2017). (1989) 2 Live Crew - As Nasty As They Want to Be Dem Vinyl Boyz Review (Episode 08) recorded August 2022 Shakin' what ya Mama gave ya this week on Dem Vinyl Boyz Episode 08 "As Nasty As They Want To Be" from 2 Live Crew. This historical album features dope classics such as "Me So Horny", "C'Mon Babe" and "Dirty Nursery Rhymes"!!! The 2 Live Crew consists of Chris Wong Won aka "Fresh Kid Ice", David Hobbs aka "Mr. Mixx", Mark Ross aka "Brother Marquis", and Luther Campbell aka "Uncle Luke", aka "Luke Skyywalker", aka "Captain D" aka "Luke"!!! Luther Campbell was the Quarterback for 2 Live Crew. he is synonymous with Miami. It's the city where he was born and raised. He first gained attention as one of Liberty City's premier DJs. If you had $50, Campbell happily showed up to spin records. “I did parks, car washes, wedding receptions, baby showers, street corners,” Campbell tells SPIN from his Miami home. “I was available.” Those early sets would mostly feature Herbie Hancock, ‘70s British funk band Olympic Runners, and some reggae records. “Miami's not really the South,” he says. “It's a melting pot of Bahamians, Jamaicans, Cubans, Dominicans, and Puerto Ricans.” Campbell himself is the son of a Bahamian mother and Jamaican father. Then hip-hop came along, down from New York. Campbell was instantly hooked. “I started playing these records at the parks and skating rinks,” he says. Campbell then came across a California duo called 2 Live Crew. The early iteration of the group was very different from what the group would become. Their first single “Revelation” and didn't contain a single bad word. “It was a ‘conscience' record,” Campbell remembers. The record's uplifting message wasn't exactly setting the charts on fire. Not to mention the group's lack of showmanship. “These guys were boring on stage,” he says. The 2 Live Crew's “As Nasty as They Want to Be” is a watershed album in hip hop history. It stands to this day as arguably the dirtiest record ever laid to tape, or at least one that millions of kids heard. What made it relevant, aside from the fact it contains enormously catchy beats and rhymes (albeit stolen for the most part), is it was for a period of time declared “legally obscene.” In their infinite wisdom, the state of Florida made the act of selling this album an arrest-able offense, an enormously controversial measure that exploded in their faces like a Luther Campbell facial once they realized people will automatically defy the norm and acquire anything they are told they cannot have (the “banned” album moved 2 million copies)  Learn more about your ad choices. I don't actually remember a time when I didn't know David in my life!Dad raced against him a lot when I was young and there was always a fun rivalry between them that brought an edge to many a conversation. The Hobbs family were the ‘fun' one and we celebrated very boozy and misbehaved 21st birthday parties at their beautiful house in England. The common theme being me passed out in their rose garden having being horribly sick! So, many of you will know ‘Hobbo' from his most excellent F1 broadcasting over a couple of decades (and now sadly missed) and his ability to turn any moment or event into an impromptu comedy hour. But to focus on that alone doesn't do his racing career justice. He raced in almost everything from Sports cars to Indy Cars, IMSA, Can am and even Formula One! He stood out in the Formula 5000 ranks, winning the championship in 1971 as well as a Trans Am Championship a few years later. He never won the big prize at the Le Mans 24 despite taking the green flag 20 times, and just how close he got on more than one occasion is something that he will remind you more than once!I stayed with David  and his wonderful wife Margaret at his house in Florida earlier this year to do the interview, and as you can imagine it was a fun time. The painting behind him in the image is a magnificent portrait done of a well known photo from his racing heydays so it seemed the perfect backdrop for mine. I actually  took many  photos of David smiling and laughing but when it came down to selecting one for this series, I was drawn to his face in contemplation. Everyone knows he is a funny chap but he is also a very intelligent and focused man, and to me this reflects that side of him.As much as anything David is universally loved and just getting the chance to sit down and hear his stories and take this portrait was a real treat for me. As I hope it is for you.JB

Additionally, the paper reviews concepts and issues around technology transfer, particularly in relation to meeting global needs and among countries with limited resources. Several opportunities are highlighted including technology advancement and the world nearing a state of readiness through a developing capacity of nations across the world to successfully adopt and support the assistive technology products and applications. The paper is optimistic about the future of assistive technology products reaching the people that can use it the most and the excitement across large and small nations in increasing their own capacities for implementing assistive technology. This is expressed as hope in future students as they innovate and in modern engineering that will enable assistive technology to pervade all corners of current and potential marketplaces. Importantly, the paper poses numerous topics where discussions are just superficially opened. The hope is that a set of sequels will follow to continue this critical dialog.Implications for RehabilitationSuccessful assistive technology product interventions are complex and include much more than the simple selection of the right product.Assistive technology product use is highly context sensitive in terms of an individual user's environment. The development of assistive technology products is tricky as it must be contextually sensitive to the development environment and market as well.As a field we have much to study and develop around assistive technology product interventions from a global perspective.

Tiny Mix Tapes | Chocolate Grinder Mixes

March 17 would have been Sean Price's 47th birthday had the MC aka Ruck lived past age 43. On February 8, 2019, P's longtime label Duck Down Music Inc. teamed with Coalmine Records and producer Small Professor for the rapper's second posthumous album, 86 Witness. Produced mostly before Price's untimely demise, the album got its title when Small Pro and executive producer Matt Diamond (no relation) realized that references to the year 1986 kept popping up in P's rhymes for the project. Sean Price was 14 in 1986. Hip-hop was about as young. Sean Price's lyrics have always had something of a cafeteria cipher feeling about them. Sometimes his words make little sense together at first ("Dikembe Mutumbo, Feliz Navidad"), perhaps a testament to their being pulled out of thin air, but the rhymes are rarely ever left unresolved, and a perfectly timed punchline can set any verse on fire ("You buy Echo to get us free like Amistad"). Those types of lines also abound 86 Witness, as do features, so the cipher vibes are even more present than usual. In celebration of the album's release, to which Sean's widow Bernadette Price gave her blessing, Tiny Mix Tapes reached out to Small Professor to compile a guest mix featuring only instrumentals from 1986. Included are a number of classic cuts such as "Peter Piper" and "Push It," as well as some more obscure selections like Anquette's "Throw the P" and Faze One's "Layin' Down a Beat." Stream Small Professor's 1986 Instro Flow below and cop 86 Witness on Bandcamp or direct from Duck Down. [00:00] Doug E.
