Duck Calls? We have answers. On the record. DUCK DUCK DOWN Two men walk into a bar. It is at this point in the joke a spectator stands UP from the crowd, having seen something and wishing to report, and says : “Why are they men?“ And the Comedian says, “I’m sorry, but this is a sexist joke.” *** Greatest fear: someone will shout "Duck" whilst I'm looking at a duck and I am then hit by a random flying object. Probably a duck in statuette form. A man came into a bar. This is not a dirty joke. It was dark inside because it is a dark joke because the proprietor had failed to pay the bill. Coincidentally, the proprietor was a duck. Funny things happen in jokes, the world over. The bar was called “the duck billed platypus” which was often a point of confusion. "But what’s in a name, anyway?” the proprietor quacked. Just a moniker. Quoth the Raven, “Nevermore!” “No one asked you,” said the duck. Then the raven lobbed a projectile toward the duck. Who failed to duck. And was thusly taken out in an untimely manner. Timing was off. Just enough to cause trouble. The projectile was a cuckoo clock which had stopped. Twice a day corrected. Even though it had stopped it made quite an impact upon the duck, effecting the disposition of the bill. All clocks stop eventually. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day regardless of the impact upon the bill. Sometimes a broken clock takes time. Hospitality isn’t all it’s quacked up to be. Remember TO duck when the time comes because time flies. The duck billed the platypus three dollars and forty-seven cents. "Cents? cents? Don't make no sense," said the irate duck billed platypus, waiving the bill in the air. "You say it ain't fair?" said the duck. "I say it ain't square!" said the platypus. It was quite a confrontation hanging in the air. Now, the duck billed platypus, he was no fool. He had done and gone to finishing school. He knew what was what, and the meaning of is, he was not new to this turnip truck biz. "If you don't like it," said the duck to his prey, "why don't you just up and fly away?" "Mayhaps I will," said the platypus. "Mayhaps I will." Because the duck billed platypus had finally had his fill. Of the duck and his quack, of the thumb and it's tack, and he was not prepared to say when he would be back. "Now see here," said the duck, but the platypus didn't hear, Didn’t hear quack. He had flown to New Zealand, Jack. Every other duck is odd. That’s just ducky. That’s the way a duck operates. The Duck double billed the platypus over a plate of flapjacks. It was a society flap. The stool-pigeons saw to that. But flapjacks are always funnier than pancakes, always. Cue the cards. “After we seize the means of production we'll set all those duck statuettes free. No more to be lined up in neat little rows, no more ducks placed in order wading on duck row. All the duck statuettes fly away home, wherever those good eggs may nest. On the corner of wild and sycamore street, or a mantle if that's what the duck thinks best." I hate when something is described as bigger or smaller than a breadbasket. A basket which carries bread CAN be any size. Council Bluffs, Iowa is home to the "largest breadbasket in the world." Three people died in the weaving. And for what? They have proposed the construction of "the biggest little breadbasket in the world." The very concept boggles the mind. Maximal minimization. Think small is the big picture. For years philosophers have pondered whether a breadbox which is too small to hold bread can, in fact, be considered a breadbox. This is a slice of life. What is the difference between a breadbasket and a breadbox? One of them is used to hold bread and the other is used to trap it. But which is which?
Although the underground rap scene is one that transforms frequently as the industry changes, it's one that many rappers go through before making their rise in the mainstream. However, Sean Price had not only built a fanbase from being one half of Heltah Skeltah, but his solo career is one that made him a great in this amongst other artists like MF Doom and Madlib. For this week, we go back to Price's sophomore album Jesus Price Superstar, a pivotal album that pushed Price in popularity thanks to hard-hitting beats, abrasive lyrics, and clever humor balanced in a nicely packed LP. With our special guest Malcolm McFadden (@Snapback4ACrown AKA @YoANerd), we choose our top three tracks from this gem, talk about the widespread release of Mic Tyson, Price's relationship with Little Brother, and Duck Down, and how the artist developed in the earlier years of the blog era amongst many other topics. Episode #20: M-One & Big Duck Down aka Boogie Brown In this episode the Level Check Crew sit down and talk with M-One & Big Duck Down aka Boogie Brown from PureUncut to talk about the 20 year anniversary of thier debut album. They also talk about the evolution of Hip-Hop in the 90's.
This week we’re talking about KRS-One’s Boogie Down Productions. These guys (or guy) helped to pioneer hip-hop, in addition to a more cerebral and educational approach to the genre. KRS-One, who’s had a lengthy and successful solo career, is just as much an educator and philosopher as he is a rapper. Regardless of how you feel about his politics, BDP were quite distinct and helped propel hip-hop into the diverse genre that it is now.Closing track: “Duck Down” from Sex and Violence (1992)Check out our episode playlists on Spotify!https://open.spotify.com/user/motherpuncherincJoin our Patreon for bonus episodes, early access to shows, and more!https://www.patreon.com/everyalbumeverFollow Mike on Instagram @popejesseventura for show updates and @pandermonkey for original musicFollow Alex on Instagram @motherpuncherMike’s Picks:Sex and Violence (1992) — Best Album, Personal FavoriteCriminal Minded (1987) — Worst Album, Least FavoriteAlex’s Picks: Ghetto Music: The Blueprint of Hip Hop (1989) — Best Album, Personal FavoriteSex and Violence (1992) — Worst Album, Least FavoriteAlbums we discussed this episode…Criminal Minded (1987)By All Means Necessary (1988)Ghetto Music: The Blueprint of Hip Hop (1989)Edutainment (1990)Sex and Violence (1992)

He tells us about his bi-racial child, how he approaches fatherhood and the things that he wonders about in raising his prince. _________________________________ Join the conversation with DJ EFN, KGB and Manny Digital on your favorite Social platforms... @fatherhoodspod! - Twitter: https://twitter.com/fatherhoodspod - Instagram: https://instagram.com/fatherhoodspod - Facebook: https://facebook.com/fatherhoodspod _________________________________ Beats. March 17 would have been Sean Price's 47th birthday had the MC aka Ruck lived past age 43. On February 8, 2019, P's longtime label Duck Down Music Inc. teamed with Coalmine Records and producer Small Professor for the rapper's second posthumous album, 86 Witness. Produced mostly before Price's untimely demise, the album got its title when Small Pro and executive producer Matt Diamond (no relation) realized that references to the year 1986 kept popping up in P's rhymes for the project. Sean Price was 14 in 1986. Hip-hop was about as young. Sean Price's lyrics have always had something of a cafeteria cipher feeling about them. Sometimes his words make little sense together at first ("Dikembe Mutumbo, Feliz Navidad"), perhaps a testament to their being pulled out of thin air, but the rhymes are rarely ever left unresolved, and a perfectly timed punchline can set any verse on fire ("You buy Echo to get us free like Amistad"). Those types of lines also abound 86 Witness, as do features, so the cipher vibes are even more present than usual. In celebration of the album's release, to which Sean's widow Bernadette Price gave her blessing, Tiny Mix Tapes reached out to Small Professor to compile a guest mix featuring only instrumentals from 1986. Included are a number of classic cuts such as "Peter Piper" and "Push It," as well as some more obscure selections like Anquette's "Throw the P" and Faze One's "Layin' Down a Beat." Stream Small Professor's 1986 Instro Flow below and cop 86 Witness on Bandcamp or direct from Duck Down. [00:00] Doug E. General Steele (birth name Darrell A. Yates, Jr.) is an American rapper, famous as half of the underground rap duo Smif-N-Wessun, and as a member of Hip Hop supergroup Boot Camp Clik. Career-Steele and Smif-N-Wessun partner Tek made their debut on Black Moon's classic 1993 album Enta Da Stage on the tracks "Black Smif-N-Wessun" and "U Da Man". The duo was signed to Buckshot's Duck Down management, and released their debut single "Bucktown" in 1994, followed by their debut album Dah Shinin' in early 1995. The release was influential over the New York City Hip Hop scene of the mid-1990s and is now hailed as a rap classic. The duo soon changed their name to the Cocoa Brovaz due to a lawsuit from the Smith & Wesson firearms company, and released their second album The Rude Awakening in 1998, featuring the singles "Won on Won", "Black Trump" and "Bucktown USA". After the temporary demise of Duck Down Records, the duo signed to Rawkus Records, and appeared on a number of Rawkus releases, including the Soundbombing II compilation, the Lyricist Lounge 2 compilation, the Lyricist Lounge III compilation and Talib Kweli's Quality album. The duo returned to Duck Down Records for a 2002 Boot Camp Clik effort The Chosen Few. In 2004, Steele released a solo mixtape titled Amerikkka's Nightmare, a release which was heavily politically influenced. Tek and Steele returned as Smif-N-Wessun in 2005 for the release of their third album Smif 'N' Wessun: Reloaded. Steele is featured on the Boot Camp Clik album The Last Stand, released on July 18, 2006. In 2010 Steele released Amerikkka's Nightmare Part 2, which again featured heavily political lyrical content. Steele is also the older brother of fellow Boot Camp member, Top Dog, who is part of the Originoo Gunn Clappaz. For Meeks and Doe, this podcast is easily best thing ever - especially this week - as we managed to nab an interview the legendary Rock of Heltah Skeltah & the Boot Camp Clik! After 23+ years of being in the game, Rock dropped his debut solo LP this fall - “Rockness A.P. (After Price).” We had a lengthy chat with Rock about his journey in releasing the record, what it’s like in today’s climate versus the 90s and what you can expect from the Rockness Monsta with this debut. Of course we get into a little history as well - Duck Down, Heltah Skeltah, Dru Ha, Buckshot and his PNC Sean Price to name a few, not to mention an insane story about him and Sean meeting Big Pun and the collab that almost happened! There’s a LOT more where this came from, so go ahead and cop “”Rockness A.P.” NOW, and after that push play on this here interview and be thankful for what is ALWAYS that #smithsonian #grade #twiceaweek // southernvangard.com // @southernvangard on #applepodcast #stitcherradio #soundcloud #mixcloud // #hiphop #rap #undergroundhiphop #DJ #mix #interview #podcasts #ATL #BROWNSVILLE #WORLDWIDE Recorded live November 12, 2017 @ Dirty Blanket Studios, Marietta, GA southernvangard.com @southernvangard on #applepodcasts #stitcherradio #soundcloud #mixcloud twitter/IG: @jondoeatl @southernvangard @cappuccinomeeks
Neil Midkiff got a tour of the USS Iowa when he lived in Rio de Janeiro as a child from the Naval Attache, Captain Andrews. At that point his mind was set, get in the Naval Academy and become a naval officer. While in the academy, he saw a picture that showed Captain Gilmore order his sub to submerge when they came under fire, even though he knew it meant his death. Neil was assigned to the USS Jack, SSN 650, and an incident in the Mediterranean when they were trailing a Russian submarine that cost the Captain his command. Enjoy! BANG! @southernvangard #radio presents #SEANPRICE @sean-p #interview #session ! This is definitely one of the highest points we’ve had since we started the podcast, not to mention one of the most entertaining. This man needs no introduction, as his reputation proceeds him, and this interview is exactly what you would expect and more. P was gracious enough to take 35 minutes out of his Sunday evening to chat about a number of things - most notably the onslaught of releases that he's dropping over the next 12-18 months. How about this ya’ll? Can you say LIL' FAME x SEAN PRICE collabo LP!?! YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST! We also get into his upcoming project with Illa Ghee, the new mixtape “Songs in the Key of Price”, his next full length “METAL BEARD” and a new Random Axe project that is in progress. This thing damn near goes off the rails when Sean starts playing joints from these projects over the phone! We also get into a little Duck Down history, the reason behind his name change from Ruck to Sean Price and the recent devastating loss of longtime friend and fellow Decepticon, Pumpkinhead. It's greater than that as Buck Shot, Tek and General Steel share their days of running with Tupac, how Duck Down almost signed Eminem, how Buck is doing way more than music and how he's got the answers. Also, wifey Unbelievable Kim stops by and talks about her "controversial" classic song "Santa Claus Is A Black Man".

**TO LISTEN OR DOWNLOAD SEE THE END OF THE SHOW DESCRIPTION!** On this masters of hardcore event we have: Bun B joins us for a feature-length interview to discuss his career as a lecturer of Humanities, Hip Hop and Religion. Far from the crack tales and street rap braggadocio that his artistic persona may suggest, this interview takes the listener on a deep journey into the reasons why Bun B devotes his daily life to teaching, including the conflict between his professional life as a rapper and his aspirations as educator. We also discuss his new album set for release later this year, including confirmed collaborations with DJ Premier and the interesting news that he is set to work once more with Jay Z. As refreshing as a spring breeze, taste a true veteran of the craft. Onyx are back and Onyx are mad. Sticky Fingaz bounces onto the show to deliver an in-depth and passionate interview regarding the groups new album "Cuzzo" set for release soon. As hardcore as you'd expect, Sticky Fingaz talks politics and conspiracy theories, citing their new video for the track "2012" as a sign of Onyx's attack on the political ideals of America, as well as drawing comparisons between the rap industry and the power structure of society. We also reflect upon the classic work of Onyx, discussing the creation of one of hip hop's hardest albums "Bacdafucup". Essential, edgy listening. Hieroglyphics are one of hip hop's most accessible and loved creative collectives. It was our pleasure to welcome onto the show Tajai, A Plus and Casual for a round table of discussion, spanning new releases from all Hiero members to deep conspiracy theory discussion, with Casual offering his detailed knowledge of chem trails and mind control techniques. We conclude with a candid freestyle cipher that has to be heard to be believed and round up what inevitably turned out to be one of Hieroglyphics best moments on our show. Blue Sky Black Death are one of hip hop's most ethereal and creative productive partnerships. They join us on this show to discuss their new album 'NOIR' which is set for release on April 26th. As well as allowing their fans the opportunity to meet the men behind the magic, BSBD also discuss future movie scoring, production work with Vinnie Paz, Jean Grae and the countless other artists that they would like to collaborate with. They also come bearing gifts and give away copies of their new album to some of our lucky live listeners. Has-Lo makes timeless, mood evoking music that has no parallels in terms of its sonic tragedy and somber vocal explorations. It was our gift to meet the mood maker himself and allow him to share with us the real meaning behind his life as a hip hop artist, including a breakdown of his superb latest album 'If I Don't Make It'. Admired by producers and hip hop fans worldwide, Has-Lo is as every bit as reflective and honest as his music suggests, making for a must hear interview. UK statue Cyrus Malachi steps proudly onto the show to talk about his latest album 'Ancient Future' and his relationship with the UK mainstream media, citing a distinct lack of support from the ever less powerful British radio outlets such as the BBC. We talk Duckdown, the success of No Cure Records and future Triple Darkness material including a full expansion of the group. There are many of people like us left in the UK and we are winning. AND THAT'S NOT ALL! Mista Montana and Menace proudly launch the all new Conspiracy Worldwide Connect social network site at http://www.conspiracyuk.com bringing together the entire global spectrum of Conspiracy Worldwide Radio listeners and artists. Back in the mid 90's Brooklyn was well represented in Hip Hop. At the top was none other than The Notorious BIG. But not everybody in BK was feelin Biggie's Versace and Dom P. rhymes. So the fans that were into that underground gritty army fatigue/timberland stomp you in the face Hip Hop gravitated towards The Boot Camp Clik. The crew which consisted of the groups Black Moon led by the legendary Buckshot, Originoo Gunn Clappaz, Smif N Wessun, and Heltah Skeltah were the independent NYC underground kings at the time. With production handled by Da Beatminerz, their label Duck Down Records was definitely a major player in the game. Their movement eventually caught the attention of 2pac who spent his last days recording with the crew for an album that was supposed to unite both coasts. After Pac passed the label went through some up and downs only to resurface as strong as ever with a new generation of MC's to carry the torch. So this a little something to pay homage to the Boot Camp Clik and Duck Down Records. I'll eventually make a part 2 of this with the newer generation of Duck Down so look out for that. Enjoy.(Parental Advisory)

We dissect the album piece by piece, from his Cohen Brothers -inspired artwork, to the pains of having to drop tracks due to ignorant artists and sample clearance. Will there be another Jedi Mind Tricks album any time soon? Listen and find out. Pharoahe Monch steps in to proudly announce the details of his new album W.A.R., released on Duckdown Records on September 14th. This is as careful and methodical as you would expect from hip hop's most diligent vocalist. We explore wider socio-political issues such as the Oscar Grant case, Pharoahe's awe and admiration of the Duckdown team and artists and much more in an in-depth, 30 minute excavation of knowledge. Hip hop don't miss this. Black Milk is a traveling man. He has an album entitled 'Album Of The Year' set to drop on September 14th and is with us on the show to explore the Detroit hip hop scene, the demise of Slum Village as a group and much more in a lively and awe-inspiring chat with hip hop's most electric. We hear of his passion to work with D12 and how, despite having the opportunity, he didn't submit beats for Eminem's Recovery album. King Magnetic drive in, free hard copies of his album/mixtape in hand to give away to listeners who can answer the question he sets. *This competition will be open until July 23rd*. Head honcho and all round stand up guy, Tonedeff, joins us for a humorous exploration of QN5's history and their scheduled forthcoming release of ten albums in 2010. Weapon Aid is Braille’s latest weapon (pardon the pun) and this time features the now single father at his darkest hour. Unlike any other of Braille’s album prior, Weapon Aid is an album engaged with intensity, soul searching, courage and above all freedom. Hear Braille like you’ve never heard him before on Conspiracy Radio in an all revealing stripped down, naked and inspiring exploration of Weapon Aid and his internal hardships creating it. Braille speaks to Mista Montana and Menace about Weapon Aids creation; including him “wrestling particular tracks”, healing, stepping up artistically and growing as an artist, new material including a collaboration with Evidence, his desire to seek different and bigger sounding produced songs and of course his new label Talking Textures which is in conjunction with Syntax Records among many other topics! Celebrate independence with one of Hip Hops most overlooked and criminally slept on secret weapons. A must listen for Braille fans and lovers of Hip Hop with a message Jimmy Powers has just released, what will no doubt be, one of the strongest albums of 2010.So it was a pleasure to welcome the man himself onto the show and get an essential history lesson, as we explore such themes as La Coka Nostra, working with Copywrite, the sucess of indie labels and more in an interview as refreshing as Jimmy's album itself. AND THAT'S NOT ALL! We world premiere first-play new non-leaked tracks from Necro's adventurous new album "DIE!" released May 18th worldwide. On this shortened two hour podcast version we have: Sean Price is captured perfectly, as he takes us on a few rounds of past, present and future talking exclusively about the reasons he was "kicked out" of La Coka Nostra, why he is going to never sign to another record label and why he couldn't care less about other rappers. A cheeky chap to say the least. Cormega is in defiant spirits as he nervously awaits the release of his new album Born & Raised. A true QB veteran who has collaborated with so many QB emcees it is quite frankly ridiculous - in fact, he loves to collaborate. Just check this one out! Due to the nature of the content of much of this live broadcast this week, the podcast version is a lite equivalent, only amassing two hours. Please be aware that this show is intended as a live show that begins at 5pm EST every Friday on the player within this page. Enjoy and keep letting us know you are out there! As you can tell from the title, this was our first-ever live show. We streamed our show live via ustream.tv and had a chance to get some real-time interaction with our audience via the chat. The whole experience was tight and we hope to do more shows in a live format in the future. The episode got off to a good start as we caught up with Capital Z, the winner from Episode #58, to talk about his track "Family Ties", and his loyal fan base (he set a HoodHype record for most votes). After that, we had a chance to speak with Brooklyns own Joell Ortiz. Right from the jump we took the opportunity to squash any misinformation surrounding our previous interview with Bishop Lamont. With that aside, we got into what projects Joell will be dropping next, what hes looking for in his next label situation, working with Rik Cordero, his hoop game and more. After hollerin at Joell, we got to speak with another one of Brooklyns elite, Buckshot from the Duck Down camp. Buck gave us the scoop on The Form --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
