Tonight, we have an opportunity to bring a piece of Le Mans to you, sharing in the Legend of Le Mans with guests from different eras of over 100 years of racing.  Andrea Robertson, a woman who carved her name into Le Mans history. In 2011, Andrea became the last American woman (to date) to race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans—and more impressively, the first to ever stand on the podium in the race's 100-year history. She and her late-husband, David Robertson, along with pro driver David Murry, took on the grueling challenge of Le Mans as privateers, fielding their iconic Ford GT40 against some of the biggest names in endurance racing. With grit, determination, and sheer passion, they defied the odds and made history on one of motorsport's biggest stages. How did they do it? What was it like to go wheel-to-wheel against factory-backed giants? And what does Andrea's success mean for the future of women in endurance racing? That's what we're here to find out.  ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00 Meet Andrea Robertson: A Trailblazer in Le Mans History 01:45 The Journey Begins: From Drag Racing to Endurance Racing 03:09 The Big Leap: Preparing for the 24 Hours of Le Mans 04:25 Challenges and Triumphs: Competing as Privateers 05:53 Facing the Ultimate Challenge: The 24 Hours of Le Mans 11:50 The Final Push: Competing at Le Mans 22:38 Pit Lane Repairs and Adjustments; Overcoming Shifter Issues 24:38 Challenges of Racing as a Privateer 26:24 Navigating the Track and Competitors 28:44 Achieving a Podium Finish 36:01 Reflections on the Le Mans Experience 41:48 Closing Remarks and Future Plans ==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net More Information: https://www.motoringpodcast.net/ Become a VIP at: https://www.patreon.com/gtmotorsports Online Magazine: https://www.gtmotorsports.org/ To learn more about or to become a member of the ACO USA, look no further than www.lemans.org, Click on English in the upper right corner and then click on the ACO members tab for Club Offers.

Plymouth Superbird (1970).

Hello again Racing Ears,In this episode, Rick Knoop was kind enough to let me chat with his friend Peter Miles.  Peter Miles is the son of Ken Miles, who was heavily involved as a test driver, mechanic, and racing driver in the development of the Ford GT40 back in the mid 1960's.  The Ford GT40 won the 1966 Le Mans 24 Hours, beating Ferrari for the first time.  Ken Miles won the 1966 24 Hours of Daytona, the 1966 12 Hours of Sebring, and was famously denied the win at the 1966 Le Mans 24 Hours by a technicality.        The 2019 motion picture "Ford v Ferrari" starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale depicted the story of the friendship between Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles. It was truly an honor to be able to speak with Rick Knoop and Peter Miles. Thanks to Mark Siegel for letting me record his 1966 Ford GT40 Mark II at Thunder Hill  Raceway way back in July of 2016.  Thank you for listening to The Racing Ear Podcast.  #theracingearpodcast #petermiles#kenmiles#rickknoopracing#dannyongais#marksiegelfordgt40

BENTLEY Speed Six (1929 y 1930). “El Camión más rápido del Mundo” 2. Alfa Romeo 8C 2.300 (1931 a 1934). “Póker de victorias” 3. Jaguar D Type (1955 a 1957). ¡Vaya frenos! 4. Ferrari 250 LM (1965). Pudo con el Ford GT40 5. Ford GT 40 (1966 a 1969). La venganza más cara de la historia. 6. Porsche 917 (1970 y 1971). La primera victoria de muchas 7. Alpine Renault A442B (1978). Tecnología Turbo F1 8. Porsche 956 (1982 a 1987). Sencillamente, imbatible 9. Mazda 787B (1991). El primer japonés… ¡y rotativo! 10. Audi R8 LMP (2000 a 2005). ¡a fondo!

Here we go! ///// > ///// Today’s movie is FORD V FERRARI, the historical drama directed by James Mangold, and written for the screen by Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth, and Jason Keller. In the 1960s, Lee Iacocca (Jon Bernthal) proposes to Henry Ford II (Tracy Letts) that Ford should design a car to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a grueling race dominated year after year by the Ferrari company. After Ferrari rejects Ford’s offer to purchase their company, Lee reaches out to car designer Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and an irascible driver named Ken Miles (Christian Bale) to defeat them on the track. No spoilers. America has a love/hate relationship with the automobile, carefully nurtured as a status symbol during the rise of the Ford Motor Company, then becoming a mainstay of rural and suburban life. Entire cities have been designed around the automobile, making their ownership, or at least their availability a necessity for many, and bringing pollution, rising gas prices, and gridlock traffic. Automobiles are tools like any other, but there is a subset of cars that make the transition from tools to toys, whether that’s the classic car clubs across the world, or the minor league racing circuit. FORD V FERRARI is a film about boys working on their toys, in this case, the incredible and innovative Ford GT40. Ford wasn’t the only company targeting Ferrari in that time period. At General Motors, John DeLorean was pushing the Pontiac LeMans and offering a GTO package, the first commercially available mainstream muscle car in the United States. In fact, the GTO signifier was inspired by the successful Ferrari 250 GTO. You can find out more about that particular car in FRAMING JOHN DELOREAN (Episode #648), along with a general look at the rise of the muscle car. Each character involved on the Ford team exemplifies the different types of boys and their toys. For Ford, played very arrogantly by Tracy Letts, this challenge was about pride in the once great Ford Motor Company, and after Ford fails to buy Ferrari, about wounded pride. For Iacocca, it’s about making a path for himself at Ford, and an episode in the often-contentious relationship with Ford II. For Shelby, the challenge is about the challenge itself, and his own wounded pride about failing to win at Le Mans before needing to retire. For Miles, it’s about the pride in being the best racer, and knowing cars better than anyone else. And for the supporting cast around them, it’s about dealing with all the emotions and fallout surrounding the entire journey, leaving metaphorical and literal wreckage in its wake. FORD V FERRARI borrows a great deal from classic racing movies. We’re introduced to the characters early on, laying the groundwork for each character, and for the corporate intrigue surrounding Ford’s attempt to buy his way into racing. Once the conflicts are established, not just between Ford and Ferrari, but also internally on the Ford team, we begin the journey to Le Mans ’66. The writing team plays a little fast and loose with the actual history, all crafted to make sure the viewer is firmly on the Ford side, and within the Ford team, firmly on the side of Shelby and Miles. Ferrari is made out to be arrogant enough to want to see them fail. The road to Le Mans 66 shows us not just the development of the Ford GT40, but also the development of the two lead characters. We learn a lot about Shelby and Miles, and their relationships outside of their obsession with cars. We also get a sneak peak into the absolutely ridiculous and childish corporate politics that get played, especially by boys playing with their toys, whether that’s a car, a division, a career, or an entire corporation. We want the team to win, even if it seems composed entirely of assholes. Even Shelby and Miles, played as good old boys from a forgotten era, can be assholes from time to time, which is contextually accurate, but also feels incredibly privileged, especially with how petty many characters act when that much money is at stake for what is ultimately a frivolous honor. Now, I may not like the characters in this film, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t played well. Christian Bale absolutely deserves the nomination for Best Actor in a Drama, turning in a full and consistent character performance from start to finish. He’s almost a perfect asshole at times, sometimes justifiably so, sometimes aggravatingly not. Damon’s portrayal of Shelby feels much smaller next to Bale’s performance, which is also reminiscent of the relationship between Shelby and Miles at the time. The supporting cast is above average, working to support either the team’s efforts or the individuals on the team. Miles’ relationship to his spouse Mollie (Caitriona Balfe) and his son Peter (Noah Jupe) provide a nice break from, or at least a reduction of, the testosterone of the other scenes. I do have some criticisms for the overall film. The film clocks in at two and a half hours, roughly cut up as a half-hour introduction, an hour to make it to Le Mans, about thirty minutes at Le Mans, and closing up afterwards. The film does a great job of managing the focus of Ford vs Ferrari, but doesn’t manage the character’s stories nearly as well. Aside from Miles, and maybe Shelby, every other character has very little development, either acting as a force of nature in Ford and Iacocca, or acting in reaction to Shelby and Miles. I feel like at least thirty minutes could be cut from the film, although I’m not entirely sure where. Taking out the extra scenes involving Miles would lessen Bale’s performance, and with Shelby narrating portions of the film, it’s hard to know where else to cut. While I was never bored by the film, I did get impatient waiting to get to the racing, then wondered how much was left at the end. FORD V FERRARI is an extensive look at the journey to Ford’s victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966, focused on the rivalry between Ford and Ferrari, but also on the car that won the race, and the people who took that car to victory. Bale turns in an excellent performance, buoyed perhaps by scenes which might have pumped the brakes a little too much along the way. Muscle car and racing fans, or fans of films about cars, will definitely enjoy this film. Just allocate enough time to properly enjoy it. Rotten Tomatoes: 92% (CERTIFIED FRESH) Metacritic: 81 (MUST SEE) One Movie Punch: 8.0/10 FORD V FERRARI (2019) is rated PG-13 and is currently playing in theaters.

Most of the film surrounds the events leading up to France's illustrious 24 Hours of Le Mans auto racing event, mostly glossing over Ford losses in 1964 and 1965 as roads poorly chosen. We start with Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon), a former elite racecar driver, the first American driver to win at Le Mans, who retires into designing racecars and coaching the next generation of elite racers after finding out he has heart disease. Considered a maverick by his contemporaries, his services are sought when the Ford Motor Company, who are attempting to brand their vehicles to younger people who want style and sex appeal in the cars they buy, planned to acquire the financially struggling Ferrari in 1963. Those plans fall through spectacularly, leaving both sides feeling insulted. Ford wants to show Ferrari, and the world, that they are more than just a company that can mass produce family vehicles. Shelby sets about building what would come to be known as the Ford GT40 model, trying to maximize power and minimize weight and drag to be the fastest racer on Earth. Christian Bale plays British racecar driver Ken Miles, sought by Shelby to help his test out his designs to give them a chance to come out on top in the grudge match between Ford and Ferrari. He's skilled at what he does, but Henry Ford II wants him replaced by someone less of a loose cannon and willing to tow the Ford line to the media. Ken's wife, Mollie (Caitriona Balfe), and his son, Peter (Noah Jupe), feel ambivalence about his quest to be the best. They want him to bring home the bacon, but they're also afraid that he'll be another casualty in the car racing arena who doesn't get out of his car in time. Shelby must weigh his friendship and knowledge that Miles is the best shot to win with the needs of his funders, who are only in it to promote their brand. James Mangold directs.

Ford v Ferrari (titled Le Mans '66 in the UK and other territories) is a 2019 American sports drama film directed by James Mangold, and written by Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth, and Jason Keller. It stars Matt Damon and Christian Bale, with Jon Bernthal, Caitriona Balfe, Tracy Letts, Josh Lucas, Noah Jupe, Remo Girone, and Ray McKinnon in supporting roles. The plot follows an eccentric, determined team of American engineers and designers, led by automotive visionary Carroll Shelby and his British driver, Ken Miles, who are dispatched by Henry Ford II and Lee Iacocca with the mission of building the Ford GT40, a new racing car with the potential to finally defeat the perennially dominant Ferrari racing team at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France. In early stages of the film's production, Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt were cast in the starring roles, but those plans fell through. Mangold was then hired in February 2018, and Damon, Bale, and the rest of the cast joined that summer. Filming began in July 2018 in California and lasted a little over two months. Ford v Ferrari had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival on August 30, 2019, and was theatrically released in the United States on November 15 by 20th Century Fox. The film received positive reviews from critics, who lauded the performances and racing sequences. -------------------- FOLLOW US -------------------- NADIA SAWALHA & FAMILY https://www.instagram.com/nadiasawalhaandfamily.com http://www.twitter.com/nadiasawalha For more movie news follow: POPCORN JUNKIES: https://www.instagram.com/thepopcornjunkies ----------------------------------- BUSINESS ENQUIRIES ------------------------------------ For business enquiries contact: michelle@doghouse-media.co.uk --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message

On this special episode of the “Autoweek Podcast,” the Autoweek gang jumps headfirst into the biggest racing movie of the year, Ford v Ferrari. Kicking off the episode, Mike Pryson and Wesley Wren talk with current Ford Performance Motorsports director Mark Rushbrook about the Ford GT’s return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016. They also talk about how exciting a movie like this must be for current Ford Motorsports endeavors. Following the Rushbrook interview, the guys sit down with Mose Nowland: the man behind the 1966 Ford GT40’s engines. Nowland talks about the 1966 race, his experience developing engines for Ford and his life in general. He also tells a tale of flying out shortly before Le Mans to Holman-Moody and Shelby America to resolve some oil leaks. After the interviews, Mark Vaughn and Wes Raynal join Wren to talk about the topic at hand: Ford v Ferrari. Mark screened the film a few weeks ago and guides us through what he liked and didn’t like about the movie. Ultimately, the consensus is that it’s good for the whole family: racing fan or not. Closing the show, Matt Damon and Christian Bale sit down with Mark Vaughn for a short interview. Music: “well, at least I’m not vaping” by Summerbruise

Robert Nagle is a Hollywood star. But he's unheralded except for industry insiders who know his stuntman and engineering talents. Name a movie with the hard-to-fathom automotive scenes and Nagle problem was part of it. Nagle's current project is the soon-to-be-released movie Ford v Ferrari, and he's our guest on Episode #105 of The Weekly Driver Podcast. Matt Damon and Christian Bale star in the racing movie Ford v Ferrari. In 2015, Nagle was awarded an Academy Technical Achievement Award (with Allan Padelford). The honor was presented for the self-propelled, high-performance, drivable camera and vehicle platform dubbed "The Biscuit Jr.”). The platform was named after a similar giant rig put on mechanical horses on to film the actors up close in the movie Sea Biscuit. The vehicle was also used in the movie Aviator. Tragedy struck when the platform was lost in a fire. Biscuit Jr., was made a few years later. And it's an integral part of Ford v Ferrari. The movie, which premiered at the recent Toronto Film Festival and Telluride Film Festival, is scheduled for nationwide release November 15.   The movis stars Christian Bale as British-born driving icon Ken Miles and Matt Damon as Carroll Shelby, the visionary car builder. They're dispatched by Henry Ford II and Lee Iacocca, then an executive with Ford, with the mission of building the Ford GT40, a new car with the potential to finally defeat the perennially dominant Ferrari. Shelby and Miles battle corporate interference, the laws of physics and their individual demons to build a revolutionary race car for Ford and challenge Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966. During our podcast, Nagle discusses working with Damon and Bale and training the actors to a skill level above what they'll need to for the movie. Nagle also discusses his long tenure in filmmaking and gives us behind-the-scenes insight into working with famous actors, the art of his craft and revisits his long career. The Ford GT40 was the car that beat Ferrari in the1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. Four decades after that win, the company resurrected the storied machine with an all new Ford GT to commemorate Ford's 100th anniversary. Chris Theodore was Ford’s VP of Product Engineering during this time and the man in charge of designing an all-new car that captured the spirit of the original. Here he recounts the fascinating story behind the Ford GT. If it wasn’t for Zora Duntov, the Chevrolet Corvette may have been just a footnote in GM’s history. But immediately after joining GM in 1953,  Duntov pushed a series of changes through the GM bureaucracy that made the Corvette a legitimate sports car. Jerry Burton, author of "Zora Arkus-Duntov—The Man Behind Corvette", explains how Duntov’s forceful personality was an instrument of good, and sometimes bad. Lance is from South Africa and he grew up working with his dad at his dealership and salvage yard. When he grew up, he took over part of the business and spent years growing it. Eventually, he decided to make the move to America and attempted to continue with the auto salvage business. He came over on a holiday visa and quickly discovered how hard it is to become an American citizen. After 3 rejections, he was able to finally make it legal and he and his family got their citizenship. Along the way, he started in North Carolina, then Abilene (in Texas), then went to San Bernadino. After many failed attempts, a friend convinced him to become a dealer for the Superformance cars in southern California. Being that Superformance is located in South Africa and Lance having dealership experience, this was a logical fit so they went with it! Superformance provides a “Turn Key Minus” vehicle which consists of a body with suspension and a rear diff. The EPA allows this because it only contains 1 of the 3 components required to be considered a car (the other two being the engine and transmission). This allows for customers to choose whatever engine and transmission they want to complete their car and make it their own. After a long legal battle, Superformance became the only manufacture that is licensed by Shelby to create the cars. They have also expanded to offer different models recently including a modern Ford GT40 and a special edition Bondurant car. Lance purchased Superformance USA back in 2007 with the goal of creating more cars and expanding the business. While the Cobra is still the biggest seller, he is pushing development and production to continue to grow the business. They have leveraged the expertise of Kahn Media to take on the task of marketing their company. This has helped raise awareness of their brand and bring in new customers.
