My biggest fear is a road trip. Sitting in a cramped space for eight million hours, only getting to take a pee twice a day and never when you need to, either in awkward silence, an annoying conversation, or listening to something only one of the people wants to listen to... God, it's scary. Following our previous podcast, Editor Sirish Chandran and Assistant Editor Aatish Mishra talk about the upcoming luxury cars and EVs in India. They start off with a barrage of Mercedes including the EQG, GLS and the E-Class. Followed by the Audi Q8, Q4, and the Q6 e-tron. Continuing with the German cars, they tell us about the Porsche Panamera, 911 992.2, and the Taycan and Macan electric. A new Range Rover Evoque is also coming in, which Aatish drove a while ago. The Skoda-Volkswagen group also has a bunch of electric cars lined up for India, including the long-awaited Enyaq iV and the ID4 GTX. Coming to Indian manufacturers, the Maruti Suzuki EVX is also expected in 2024, and so is the Mahindra XUV e8, which is an EV based on the XUV700. While Tata has just launched the Punch Electric, we should also see the Curvv EV and hopefully the Sierra EV. Sirish and Aatish give a complete download and share some inside secrets about the upcoming luxury cars and SUVs of 2024

On the first episode of Hot Pursuit!, Hannah and Matt discuss Hannah's trip to Austria to be the first journalist to drive the electric Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon. Can it even come close to comparing to the gas-powered G that has existed since 1979? Then, it's a look at BMW's polarizing XM hybrid, its most powerful SUV but not its best--we'll tell you why. Meanwhile, Matt is driving over New York City curbs in another expensive V8 SUV this week, the Jeep 392 Rubicon, and Hannah has a few thoughts about it from that time in Moab. Plus, Matt just bought a Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack Widebody - but how fast is it really?     Follow Hannah and Matt on Instagram:     @HannahElliottxo     @mattmiller1973     Find more on  Hi. I'm Hannah Elliott and I'm Matt Miller, and this is Hot Pursuit. All right, welcome to the first episode of our new podcast. Hannah Elliott from Bloomberg Pursuits and me Matt Miller from Bloomberg Television. We're going to walk you through everything that's hot in the world of autos and motorcycles. I point out, Hannah, because Ducati has released a brand new version of the Multi Strata. This is the V four version. It's called the RS. And the really cool thing about this bike, and then we'll get back to cars, is that it has the Desmo dramatic valve operation. Once again, they've gone away from that to reduce, you know, the amount of mechanical work that you had to do, the amount of upkeep you had to do, and now they've gone back just for this one version. So I'm pretty pumped about that. That's cool. It all sounds very complicated. I'm more scrambler girl myself or a dirt by I love a dirt bike. But of course we're focused mainly on cars, and you have been very much focused on the Mercedes g Wagon. So we're going to talk about that. We're going to talk about a trip that you recently took to Austria to test out a new version of that. We're also going to talk about a couple of the vehicles that we're driving, which I think people might cross shop with a G Wagon, you know, wealthy people that are looking for some kind of big, gigantic suv that has a lot of power behind it. And then we're going to talk about the new car that I recently bought, which maybe is kind of the other end of the spectrum. It wasn't very expensive, it's not an suv and it's like a dinosaur. So we'll talk about my Dodge Challenger RT scatpack wide body. Unfortunate name notwithstanding, I have to say every time when we say that name, I pringe. I think of like Dean Martin and you know Frank Sinatra. Yeah, yeah, Shahinatra was out there in a mopar type car and I don't know the history, but I think that's why they called it that. Anyway, let's kick it off with the G Wagon. So this is I think one of the coolest vehicles in automotive history. And I would say you probably agree because you're a big fan. Tell us about what you did over the weekend, so I have to say I felt pretty lucky. I was the first non Mercedes Benz employee and first American to drive the electric G Wagon, which is really exciting because we've been hearing about this since twenty eighteen when Arnold Schwarzenegger said he wanted one and Mercedes said, okay, we'll make it. Basically, this was back at the G Wagon launch in Detroit, which Matt, I think you'll remember, well, yes, but yeah, all of that to say, I went to go drive it in Austria on the Shekel Mountain also pronounced she Shekel if you want to that tea in there. It's a proven ground in Austria where Mercedes has all of their G Wagons, and I went up there to do some driving in the electric g This was a pre production electric G Wagon, and I have to say it was pretty fun. That's so cool. So I bought back a couple of years ago when I was living in Berlin the new generation of the G Wagon and right inside the door you get a little badge on all of the new G's that says something like tested on the stuckle or proven on the stuckle Jeckel proof, Yes, exactly something like that. So for g Wagon owners, the place is magical and maybe mysterious because it's in Grots and like hardly anybody ever goes there. But basically this is where Magna Steyer makes the g Wagon right there. They're not made by Mercedes in house. Yes, this is a little known fact. So the company was formerly called Poop. Now it's called Magnet. It's a bigger corporation that bought it out, but same company, same location, and it's kind of a mecha for g Wagon owners to go there. There is a factory, there's an experience center which is right by the airport, and it's it is an iconic vehicle. I mean, how many car models can you say I've been made without interruption since the seventies. I mean, it's pretty cool. I have to say, no, it's awesome, and it's in super high demand, even though it's so dang expensive, right, I mean when I bought mine, they were like one twenty five to start and there was a two year waiting list. I don't think the waiting list has come down, it's gone the other direction, and I know the price has gone up. Yeah. Yeah, that's a really good point. And this will be a challenge. I hesitate to get everyone all excited about the electric G because right now Magna makes about forty thousand G wagons per year in that facility. I was in the facility last week. It's very cool, but the production volume is limited. And I've asked Mercedes, hey, how are you going to add in all of these extra electric GEW wagons on top of your maxed out production line? And you know, they say they have a plan. They say they have They're going to have flexible shifts. They're currently running two shifts five days a week at Magna. They don't want to tell me if they're going to add a third shift. Apparently overnight shifts are tricky. You tend to get more fabrication errors in the overnight shift, so they don't necessarily want to go to a third overnight shift. But bottom line, yeah, last year there were two year wait times for new G wagons and Mercedes actually stopped taking orders on the G. It got so bad. They are taking orders again now. But you know, if you order an electric GEW wagon, I think patients will be your highest virtuo because there's going to be high demand and production will be is a big question mark. We'll put it that way. What's going to be called? Is it the EQG because all of their others like the Big the ASS is the EQS now the electric version, and the obviously the E is the EQE the electric version. So is this the EQG. But that's a great question. We've been calling it colloquially the EQG. Mercedes has been using that loosely, but that is not the official name. And Mercedes has said they're going to announce the official name next year when they announced the pricing and they have this big world debut of it. So we don't know for sure that EQG is the actual name. If you call it that now, people will probably know what you're talking about. But the official name will be announced next year. And we should say the one that I drove it was covered in camouflage. There is going to be some slight, slight, slight difference in the roofline on this Electric G Class I, and they pointed it out to me. I can't even tell the difference. It looks basically this. I mean, I don't have that refined and I I guess they changed a few things to help with efficiency. But yeah, we'll know a lot more next year. It's gonna debut on twenty twenty four. I just have one question before we go on to competitors that you and I are driving this week. On the interior of my G five hundred, the European versions were called that the US version of the G five to fifty kind of the base model. They didn't use the new MBUX, they didn't use the new infotainment system. We still had the old one. Were you able to suss out what they're going to use in terms of the interior electronics package on the new one. I have to believe that they're going to use the new system. The one that I drove was draped in a black cloth. I knew it. Although they did lift up. We were lifting up the cloak, so to speak, to change certain off road modes, to do the rock mode, to do the G turn. I should talk to you about that in a second. And it looks like the news is in there. Don't quote me on that, but it would be ridiculous for them not to put it in. So I'm like ninety percent sure that it'll be in there, and I think that's what I saw the G turn. I have to talk about this briefly. So Mercedes is doing this G turn in the new Electric g which basically you push a button and it flips the whole thing around in a three hundred and sixty degree circle without going forward to backward. It just like what does a spin? Basically? Yes, yes, And I think this is becoming a thing like remember the crab walk from the Electric Hummer, and then the Cadillac Electric Escalade has ballet mode, which like self parks. I feel like all of these new electric SUVs think they have to have like one party trick y p and the G turn is the party track, all right, So the new g Wagon is going to have real, real steering, then, is my takeaway. Yeah, let's talk about the other big, expensive, at least partially electric suv that you're driving right now, which is really controversial, the BMW x M. I already already spent a week in it, so I have my own thoughts, uh, and I think everyone who comes even near this thing as thoughts. So what are your thoughts on the BMW XM. My thought is it's ugly. It's big, and it's ugly. I can't look past the wheels which are just like these big rome break things discs. It's just big and lumbering. I'm not necessarily bothered by our new beaver tooth BMW grill which this has. Doesn't bother those don't bother me. It's just the whole thing. It's Matt. I think I heard you say the other day you were kindly referred to it as brutalist, which maybe maybe, I mean, that would be a kind way of describing it. But and you know, the exterior is it just looks rather unsophisticated and then of course worse. The interior has some design notes that I raised my eyebrow at, especially the ceiling, which is kind of like a Eastern European nightclub in the nineties. Uh. Yes, it's like lined and swayed, and it's got mood lighting and there are like sort of uneven ridges all across the top. It looks a little bit like a mountain range. Baby. I'm not sure what they were going for, but that's just the looks. I've got a lot of other thoughts about how it drives to I mean, I think also say I think it's more expensive than the g Wagon. Yes, I do think it has a brutalist look, is very aggressive it's imposing and I like that it's very big and massive. The Germans would say vuchtik, which I think is a really fitting way to say it. I love the badges on the back. You know. They have two BMW in Signa insignias on the top sides each side of the winds, which is kind of like what the M one had on its flying buttresses, if that's what you call those things. And this is the only other dedicated M car that they've made. There won't be any other base version. It's only an MV vehicle. I don't understand why they d tuned the V eight, which is in the X five M. It's more powerful in the X five than it is in this, and this is supposed to be their pinnacle like halo vehicle. And I also don't understand why they left out air suspension. I guess the engineers thought it would be troublesome for some reason. But if I'm going to pay one hundred and sixty thousand dollars before I check any boxes, I definitely want air suspension. And I want like some kind of sun roof or panoramic moon roof for something other than the horribly ugly headliner that they've put in there just for design cred. Yeah, I have to I have to agree. I think it's it's wildly expensive and the engine does sound and feel really unsophisticated. To me, that was just the That was my overall take. It just felt very unsophisticated, but not in a cool like you know muscly Way. It just felt rough. And I also, I think we have to give them props. You know, this is a six hundred and forty four horse power vehicle. It's their most powerful vehicle, I think at the moment. Yeah, you can check that, but no, it is. It does zero to sixty faster than the G Wagon and you know I love the g really fast. Yeah, and I stop on that thing and I can pretty much, you know, dominate Beverly Hills if I want to, And yes I have been. I apologize to anyone who's been around me lately driving this because it does make you feel a little bit bossy. But it's it's just you know, it's long. It's it's over sixteen feet long. It's just a brick. It's a fast brick. The anti roll bars are so strong that it's really impressive in a vehicle. Of that size and weight. But otherwise you know, it's comfy, but obviously it's for such a big vehicle. It's going to be comfy and it's kind of luxurious, but that's what you expect when you pay one hundred and sixty grand. So, and I do like the screen. There's that curve screen in the dashboard. Nice. Nice. Yeah, No, they did some okay things with it, but they should have it should be firing on all cylinders, yes, agreed, plus electric power. Speaking of unsophisticated, I'm driving the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon three ninety two right now, yes, which is obviously a car that you reviewed in twenty twenty one, and I love that you pointed out back then that you thought it was too expensive at like seventy five grand, and now you know, less than two years later, I'm driving it and the base model costs ninety three grand before you check any boxes as well, So like the price has gone twenty three percent, and it is awesome. It's so much fun. It's so loud. I drive over for every curb that I can. Today. I just crossed over a median from interstate to a service road, and I think you have to where you get your license for votes. But but man, is it expensive? Why is it so much? Yeah, this is this is a case of an arms race in terms of pricing for these SUVs. And I think I thought it was expensive when I drove it two years ago. And Jeep is charging this much because they know people will pay this much. It's it's crazy the amount of brand loyalty people who buy Jeeps have. This is another icon. I mean, we were talking about the G class being an icon. The Jeep is older than the G. We have to give props there and it is so beloved. And you know, when I drove it, it was in Moab. I was out there with Jim Morrison, not the cool Jim Morrison, Morrison, not the dead Jim Morrison, the vice president of Jeep. And he told me that basically one hundred percent some of them leave the shop with heavy modifications on them. So people are already pricing them way higher than the starting price. So when we see an MSRP of close two hundred thousand, I think we can assume that most of them don't even leave the factory at that price. Yeah, you're definitely not getting off the dealership yet without without six figures. Yeah, and you know, I don't think the Jeep Rubicon is a luxury vehicle, but they're certainly putting their pricing up where it feels like they're aspiring to be considered amongst some of these other luxury subs that are expensive. And it's all margin. Like if I look at the Jeep yes Wrangler three ninety two at one hundred grand out the door, and I remind myself that you can buy a Dodge Challenger scatpack wide body for sixty and it's got the same engine, you know, and it's also got all the bells and whistles over the base Challenger. So and they're charging an extra forty thousand for the Jeep. It's just insane. By the way, I did just buy that Dodge Challenger. And I want to talk about here we go with you for a second, because I so I got it since this is the last call, right, this is the last year they're making these, and this is like the oldest must be one of the oldest cars in production, you know, from a G class standpoint, and they'll go back the seventies. They redesigned it once. Sure, this hasn't been redesigned since two thousand and seven, with the exception of putting it on that bigger fenders. And well, I think it's cool because it's it's still attractive, at least in my opinion, and obviously it's totally subjective. But this six point four liter V eight is so much power. But they put it in such a huge boat that half the time I'm just spinning my wheels, which is frankly a lot of fun. I do it a lot, and after two weeks I'm almost done with this set of tires. What color did you get? And how is it? Opening the doors in like a garage situation? So obviously, because it's a two door and the doors are so long, it's very difficult. I just don't park next to anybody, which curiates my wife. I'll go to the other side of the parking lot to be alone. In terms of the color, it's F eight green, like an army green, which is a very cool I think it's a throwback to the seventies, as are all of Dodge's colors, and that's why I bought it, you know. It reminded me of a car that like my great grandmother had, although her wasn't quite as sporty, and I just love the kind of big American V eight feel. It reminds me of driving a car and Grand Theft Auto four. I think it was where you know, you just you pull the trigger and it starts to make a lot of noise and slowly roll and pick up momentum because it's not super fast here the sixty and then when you let go of it, it it just keeps going because it's built up so much inertia. So I like that momentum car. Yes, No, have you gone around any corner as yet? I haven't. You know. I'm kicking out at the back end of this car around every like on ramp and off ramp. But that's part of the fun for me. We'll see how it handles in the winter. I probably will be keeping in the garage when it snows. But it's just are you driving that in the city. I have driven into the city a couple of times. Wow? Any any looks? Uh? You know it's kind of a you're kind of a badass when you're driving this car. I think people are afraid of the kind of dudes who drive this car. In fact, I was getting personalized placed yesterday and I thought of getting Girl Dad because I have a daughter and I have another daughter. But then I thought I shouldn't get that because if I get into a road rage fight with somebody and then they see my license late, says girl Dad. You know, no one will take me seriously. How are you on the horn? Are you? Are you someone who honks? Honker? Yes, a lot, I'm a big honker. I do think it's a safety device more than anything. I'm just talking, just talking to you. Yes, you know. When I'm on the horn, I'm just making a statement, and I hope people, yeah, outside of my car understand what I'm saying. You know, go at that right turn quickly, please, that's right. You know, that's right. I prefer the horn to a hand gesture. I'm not a real gestory person. I like a horn. All right. That's going to do it. For our first episode of Hot Pursuit, I'm Matt Miller. You can catch me on Bloomberg Radio weekdays from ten am to one pm. I'm on Bloomberg Television weekdays from one pm to two pm. My Instagram is Matt Miller nineteen seventy three, and you can always catch my weekly car segments. What Matt Miller driving this week on YouTube, and I'm Hannah Elliott. You can find my writing on Bloomberg Pursuits, which is on Bloomberg dot com. You can also find me on x poor really known as Twitter at Hannah Elliott. That's two l's and two t's. I like to have everything. And then of course on Instagram. I'm definitely not putting my birth year on my Instagram account like Matt. It's just Hannah Elliott XO, keep it very simple. Two l's, two teas, and you can find me yeah, on Bloomberg dot com Slash Pursuits. All right, join us again next week for another episode of Hot Pursuit, same time, same place. I'm Matt Miliker and I'm Hannah Elliott, and this is BloombergSee Mercedes-Benz is all-in on its BEV efforts and is almost constantly expanding its battery-powered portfolio. While most pay attention to the higher-end EQ models like the EQS or are waiting to see what the EQG will look like in production trim, the entry point to the battery-electric ‘Benz lineup is its EQB. The '23 Mercedes-Benz EQB is split into three models, with the most affordable 250 Plus variant giving you a single motor and 245 miles of range from its 70.5-kWh battery pack. This single-motor variant sends 188 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels. Jumping to the EQB 300 and EQB 350 nets you more power and all-wheel drive from the dual-motor drivetrain. Of course, those models also will set you back more money. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek Executive Editor Tom Murphy hops behind the wheel of the '23 Mercedes-Benz EQB 250 Plus and puts it through its paces. Murphy guides you around the EQB and highlights some of his favorite features before taking you along on a live drive review. Murphy also talks about his time road-tripping this BEV through more rural parts of Michigan. Joining the show, host Wesley Wren chats with Murphy about the EQB, its competition and more. Closing the show, the pair breakdown what makes the EQB 250 Plus special.

Show #1408 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, you trusted source of information. It's Friday 18th March, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. VW DELAYS MEB PRODUCTION IN ZWICKAU UNTIL APRIL - Volkswagen's electric car plant in Zwickau will not resume production until the beginning of April. The reason for this is the lack of cable harnesses from Ukraine, which could not be delivered due to Russia's invasion of the neighbouring country. - Previously there had been talk of a production break at the VW plants in Zwickau and Dresden until at least 18 March. - As the MEB series production in Emden (ID. 4) and Hanover (ID.  Buzz) is not yet running (only the pre-series), Zwickau and Dresden are currently the only VW locations in Europe where the MEB vehicles are built. - In Emden, where the Passat is built in addition to the ID.4 pre-series, there should be no restrictions in the coming weeks. The confirmation comes from the very top: Mercedes-Benz Chairman Ola Kallenius - MotorTrend talked to the Management Board chief this week in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where Mercedes officially opened a battery plant to supply the 2023 EQS three-row electric SUV and the smaller Mercedes-Benz EQE two-row SUV, which will be built at the neighboring vehicle assembly plant. - Kallenius confirms the final production model rides on a modified version of the current G-Class platform. - That means it does not share the current EVA2 architecture used for the EQS and EQE SUV families. Nor does the EQG wait for the automaker's new dedicated EV architectures that are still in development. For the third year running, Porsche's pure-EV Taycan line managed to outsell the iconic 911 - The company has said that it wants 80 percent of its sales to be “all-electric” by 2030 - The company added that it is looking to get new, high-performance battery cells from Cellforce which are due to begin shipping in 2024. Original Source : https://www.engadget.com/porsche-plans-80-percent-ev-by-2030-113557450.html PORSCHE CONFIRMS NEXT-GEN 718 WILL BE ALL-ELECTRIC - Porsche at its annual conference on Friday confirmed that the next-generation 718 will use nothing but battery-electric powertrains. This will make the 718 the third Porsche vehicle to shift to pure electricity, following the Taycan, which has been out for a couple years now, and the next-gen Macan, which we should see soon. CEO Oliver Blume said the electric 718 would arrive in 2025. - This signals a more aggressive push into the battery-electric space, where previously Porsche had leaned heavier on plug-in hybrids as a sort of steppingstone. Original Source : https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/porsche-next-gen-718-battery-electric/ PORSCHE TO BUILD OUT ITS OWN NETWORK OF EV CHARGING STATIONS - Porsche said it will start building out its own proprietary global network of charging stations next year, a departure from its initial strategy to rely on partnerships with other companies. - The plan, which was revealed during the company's annual meeting, comes as Porsche prepares to expand its EV portfolio beyond the Taycan to at least two more models, the Macan and 718, by 2025. - The first Porsche-branded charging locations will be built in high-demand areas beginning next year in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, company executives said. - The charging stations will also have amenities akin to a lounge, where customers might sip coffee or work while their batteries recharge. - Porsche will continue to support the Ionity partnership and tout the benefits of the  Electrify America network of 670 charging stations across 46 states and Washington, D.C. But a proprietary network gives Porsche direct control over the customer experience and quality of the charging stations. Something is going to have to break for EV adoption to accelerate in the country. - For the entire year of 2020, Tesla vehicles accounted for 79% of new electric vehicles registered in the US. Now new data has come out for 2021 as part of a new report based on registration data from Experian, and Tesla is a bit down, as expected. But, the company still holds a strong majority of EV market shares in the United States. - Tesla still holds 69.95% EV market share in the United States with Nissan coming in at a distant second place with 8.51%: - According to Tesla's delivery timelines for new orders, the automaker is still enjoying some large backlogs for almost every version of each model. Original Source : https://electrek.co/2022/03/17/tesla-still-dominates-us-electric-car-market/ TESLA ASKS OWNERS IN CHINA TO PROMISE NOT TO RESELL THEM WITHIN A YEAR  - Extended delivery times and rising prices in China are giving some people the opportunity to resell Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) vehicles at a profit. The electric vehicle (EV) maker has taken steps to try to combat this behavior but has sparked controversy. - Weibo blogger @ID_韩潮 shared a document on Wednesday showing that Tesla requires owners who buy multiple Tesla vehicles in one or more cumulative purchases to sign a contract promising not to sell the vehicles to others within a year of purchase. - If a buyer who signed the contract broke the promise, he or she would be required to pay Tesla default damages of 20 percent of the invoice amount, according to the contract. - Local media Chengdu.cn reported on Thursday that an unmade source at Tesla confirmed the existence of the contract, saying the move was aimed at maintaining a fair and transparent car-buying experience for consumers. - Users who pay RMB 1,000 ($157) to reserve a vehicle can make more than RMB 10,000 in profit on a successful transfer, which has led some to place a large number of orders, according to the report. - That contract by Tesla places restrictions on the consumer's exercise of ownership, and it is highly unlikely that it will be found invalid Original Source : https://cnevpost.com/2022/03/18/tesla-asks-owners-who-buy-multiple-vehicles-in-china-to-promise-not-to-resell-them-within-a-year/ EV ROUTING COMES TO APPLE MAPS AND CARPLAY FOR FORD MACH-E Original Source : https://9to5mac.com/2022/03/18/mach-e-ev-routing-apple-maps-carplay/ DO ELECTRIC VEHICLES PRODUCE MORE TYRE AND BRAKE POLLUTION THAN THEIR PETROL AND DIESEL COUNTERPARTS?  Original Source : https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/electric-cars/running/do-electric-vehicles-produce-more-tyre-and-brake-pollution-than-petrol-and/ QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM Do you think rising fuel prices at the pumps will have a direct impact on EV sales? Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 7th September. It's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they've built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. RENAULT MEGANE E-TECH ELECTRIC REVEALED - Renault has revealed its next generation EV over a decade after democratising electric car technology with its Zoe, transferring the Megane nameplate onto a new and bespoke all-electric hatchback that will rival the Volkswagen ID.3 and Cupra Born. - This decision to apply the Megane name to an all-new bespoke EV signals Renault's commitment to the technology, diverging from its French counterparts Peugeot and Citroen by not engineering a single model capable of supporting both EV and ICE powertrains. - With no combustion-engined Megane replacement in the pipeline, Renault's looks a brave and dramatic move by comparison. - the Megane E-Tech will utilise a single electric motor in two outputs, 128bhp and 218bhp, driven from one of two available battery packs of either 40kWh or 60kWh. With its most potent combination, the Megane will reach 62mph in 7.4sec - The CMF-EV platform the new Megane sits on has been co-developed with Alliance partner Nissan, and incorporates the slimmest battery pack in the marketplace at just 110mm thick. This has allowed Renault's designers to keep the body relatively low-slung in comparison to VW's MEB platform - from 186 miles at the lower end right up to 292 miles. Announced earlier in 2021, the expanded Polestar 2 model range now offers three powertrains - A key addition to the new versions is the optional heat pump. The heat pump reduces the need to use valuable battery capacity to prepare and sustain the cabin climate. The system uses ambient heat, as well as residual thermal energy from the drivetrain, to reduce energy requirements for climate control by as much as 50%. In colder weather and most effectively between 5-15 degrees Celsius, as much as a 10% improvement in range can be achieved. - The heat pump is part of the Plus Pack, one of three curated optional equipment bundles that enhance the Polestar 2 experience. The Plus Pack also includes high-level premium equipment like the full-length panoramic glass roof, premium Harman Kardon audio system with 13 speakers, WeaveTech upholstery, Black Ash deco panels, fully-electric heated front seats with memory, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel and heated wiper nozzles. - Variants and packsReference pricing based on German market (excluding incentive and handover) Long range Dual motorEUR 51,500Long range Single motorEUR 48,500Standard range Single motorEUR 45,500 Original Source : https://electriccarsreport.com/2021/09/2021-polestar-2-priced-to-impress-as-premium-ev SKODA ENYAQ IV COUPÉ TO DROP IN 2022 - A few months before the sales launch, Skoda has revealed more details about the Enyaq iV Coupé. However, the SUV coupé of the well-known MEB battery-electric car will only be launched in three of the five drive variants of its SUV brother. - Specifically, these are the Enyaq Coupé iV 60, 80 and 80x. The 60 has a 58 kWh battery and a 132 kW electric motor. The 80 is the familiar version with the large 77 kWh battery and 150 kW rear-wheel drive, and the 80x is the 195 kW all-wheel-drive version with the 77 kWh battery. The Enyaq's 50 drive and RS model will therefore not be offered on the SUV coupé at market launch. - he 58 kWh battery can be charged with up to 120 kW with the current software, while the 77 kWh battery can currently be charged with a maximum of 125 kW – an update has been announced for the autumn, which is rumoured to enable up to 170 kW at corresponding DC charging stations. Original Source : https://www.electrive.com/2021/09/06/skoda-enyaq-iv-coupe-to-drop-in-2022 SKODA ENYAQ COUPE IV AND VW ID.5 SPORTBACKS - The electric launch cycles of many of the biggest brands serves as a welcome reminder of how important groups and platforms are.A perfect example of this is currently playing out with the Skoda Enyaq Coupe iV and the VW ID.5, both due for launch shortly. Both these electric models follow existing models - the Skoda Enyaq iV and the VW ID.4 as SUV versions - which now get a dropped back for pumped up coupe looks. - Audi is a big fan of what it calls the sportback, offering that dropping roofline for more sporty looks on many models and - something we saw on the Audi e-tron and more recently with the Audi Q4 e-tron - which also comes in both styles. - The ID.5 will only offer the larger 82kWh battery, again with a choice of motor powers, but the GTX that's being pushed will have dual motors, we suspect the same 220kW pairing on the ID.4 GTX. The all-electric Porsche Mission R, first introduced at this weeks' 2021 IAA Mobility conference in Munich, is what Porsche believes is “the future of customer motorsport.” - nside there are mounted cameras for the driver's helmet, a movable camera on the car's A-pillar, and a backward-facing dashboard cam so fans can get up close and personal. Porsche claims the gaming rig-inspired steering wheel has built-in biometric sensors to track a driver's vitals throughout, and the car also features a dedicated “Livestream button.” - Porsche says the Mission R can go from zero to 100 km/h (around 62mph) in 2.5 seconds, with a max speed of over 300 km/h (around 186mph) Original Source : https://www.theverge.com/2021/9/9/22665004/porsche-mission-r-electric-race-car-livestream-button NISSAN CELEBRATES 250,000 EV SALES ACROSS EUROPE - Nissan has achieved a quarter of a million fully electric vehicle sales in Europe – marking a new step in a decade of success for Nissan electric mobility. As the EV revolution continues to accelerate, Nissan celebrates the latest milestone in its commitment to advancing electric mobility, with the iconic LEAF achieving 208,000 sales and the highly versatile e-NV200 van securing 42,000 customers in Europe. - the e-NV200 has upheld the same pioneering spirit of the LEAF, bringing the benefits of zero-emissions mobility to both businesses and private customers.Equipped with an efficient 40kWh powertrain, up to 4.2m3 of cargo capacity and offering low operating costs, the e-NV200 is a highly flexible tool for commercial users and has been the vehicle of choice for businesses across Europe. - e-NV200 Evalia has also served the needs of everyday private customers, with a highly-adaptable interior and five- and seven-seater options available Original Source : https://www.automotiveworld.com/news-releases/electric-mobility-news-releases/nissan-celebrates-a-new-electrifying-milestone-with-250000-ev-sales-across-europe MERCEDES-BENZ EQB THREE-ROW ELECTRIC CROSSOVER BOWS AT IAA 2021 - Seen for the first time at IAA Mobility 2021, the EQB wasn't a big surprise because we knew it was coming and we had been covering it for months. Just like the EQA, which is the EV version of the GLA, the EQB is the pure-electric version of the GLB. And the difference between the two ICE models is the same for the EVs - the EQB is the slightly bigger and more rugged looking of the two, and the only to offer a third row of seats. - the EQB is only available with two motors, in either EQB 300 or EQB 350 guises. They both draw from the same 66.5 kWh battery pack (shared with the EQA), they have the same maximum charging speed of 110 kW - WLTP range of up to 419 km (260 miles). - The EQB is expected to reach US dealers in 2022, but in Europe it should become available before the end of 2021. Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/530945/mercedes-eqb-three-row-ev 2024 MERCEDES-BENZ EQG: WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR - Over several decades the Mercedes-Benz G-class built a reputation as an all-conquering off-roader before becoming a six-figure status symbol for celebrities. Now, with the automotive landscape shifting away from gas-powered cars, the G-class is spawning the all-electric EQG. - The EQG will be an all-new model for the Mercedes brand when it launches. We expect it to arrive for the 2024 model year, meaning it could go on sale in late 2023. - We estimate that the price of the 2024 Mercedes EQG will be in the $120,000-range when it reaches dealerships. We'll know more about the different EQG trims and their pricing closer to the electric off-roader's on-sale date. - The EQG is expected to be powered by four electric motors, one near each wheel, that will be individually controllable, which should improve on- and off-road driving performance. Original Source : https://www.caranddriver.com/mercedes-benz/eqg VOLKSWAGEN'S ID.LIFE IS AN URBAN EV THAT WILL ENTER PRODUCTION BY 2025 - Volkswagen has added another piece to its EV puzzle with the launch of the ID.Life concept, a front-wheel drive EV aimed at city-dwellers, the company announced at IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich. The small crossover shares the MEB platform and battery with the ID.3, and VW plans to launch it in Europe (not the US) by 2025. - The ID.Life is powered by a 231-horsepower motor and 57.0-kWh battery pack that's considerably larger than the 35-kWh battery on the Honda E city car. Like the rear-wheel-drive ID.3, also available only in Europe, it should go around 250 miles on a charge via Europe's generous WLTP cycle. Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 31st August. ALL-ELECTRIC MERCEDES G-WAGEN TO APPEAR IN MUNICH - The electrification of Mercedes-Benz seems to be continuing apace, with those in the know telling us that an EV variant of the mighty G-Wagen – likely to be called the “EQG” – will appear at next month's International Motor Show in Munich. - Merc engineers and stylists will surely be working overtime to imbue the EQG with an appearance fit for the electric age but one not too far from the square-jawed face that's so popular in Hollywood and other moneyed parts of the world. - While the company will probably take a planer to some of its hard edges, it remains highly unlikely it'll reinvent the classic two-box design, which isn't fundamentally all that different than when the model first appeared over four decades ago. - There are rumblings Mercedes will plug motors and batteries into the G's current ladder frame rather than deploy a low-slung EV architecture for risk of ruining its off-road chops. This, of course, neatly ignores the fact that most G-Wagens only ever experience the likes of Rodeo Drive and Savile Row. Original Source : https://driving.ca/auto-news/auto-shows/all-electric-mercedes-g-wagen-to-appear-in-munich US: KIA INTRODUCES 2022 NIRO EV, RAISES PRICE - Kia America announced today the 2022 model year Kia Niro EV, which was slightly refreshed and better equipped as standard. On the outside, the Niro EV now has the new Kia badging on the front grille, the tailgate, steering wheel hub and wheel center caps. The biggest change is probably that the 10.25-inch touchscreen is now standard. - the entry-level trim version is now $900 more expensive ($39,990 compared to $39,090 in 2021 MY): EX: $39,990 EX Premium: $44,650 - The specs remain the same with a 64 kWh battery, an EPA range of 239 miles (385 km), and a 150 kW electric motor. Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/529784/us-kia-2022-niro-ev/ LITHIUM-ION BATTERY PIONEER AKIRA YOSHINO ON FUTURE OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES - Professor Akira Yoshino, a co-winner of the 2019 Nobel Prize in chemistry for his work on lithium-ion batteries, can take credit for the upheaval in the automotive and technology industries. Lithium-ion batteries have provided the first serious competition in a century to fossil fuels and combustion engines in the transportation industry. Now an honorary fellow at Asahi Kasei, the Japanese chemical firm where he has worked for nearly 50 years, Prof Yoshino sees more disruption ahead as transportation and digital technology become one industry, sharing lithium battery technology. - There are two major areas of innovation that would be the key. One would be new cathode materials and anode materials.  The second one would be the system where the electric vehicle is used. In other words, how people will be using the electric vehicles, and how they charge them and discharge them. - With the fuel cell vehicle, there are challenges on the technology and the costs, but you can overcome them. If you think about the longer term, 2030 to 2050, autonomous shared vehicles are going to come about. Hypothetically, an autonomous vehicle could be run by a petrol engine, it could be electric, it could be a fuel cell. It doesn't matter what the power source is. But it needs to replenish its energy somehow. If the vehicle can't do that automatically without human intervention, the system is kind of meaningless. The same thing would be true for petrol or hydrogen. - Right now, the auto industry is thinking about how to invest in the future of mobility. At the same time, the IT industry is also thinking about the future of mobility. Somewhere, some time, with the auto industry and the IT industry, there will be some kind of convergence for the future of mobility. Joining it from 2022 will be a large SUV codenamed Type 132, while 2023 will see the arrival of a similarly sized four-door coupe referred to as Type 133 and probably shaping up as a direct competitor for the Tesla Model S. - A mid-size, ‘D-segment' SUV known as Type 134 is slated for arrival in 2024, the size of the car suggesting it will be a rival for the BMW iX3. - Three of these vehicles will use Lotus' recently announced Premium Architecture - a fully electric car platform. It's been developed by Geely owned Lotus for a global rollout of ‘lifestyle' orientated cars, in this case, the two SUVs and the four-door coupe. Lotus has also confirmed that the Premium Architecture is electrified at 800v. - The Lotus ‘lifestyle' models will be built in China, at a new factory in Wuhan due to open later this year. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   MERCEDES PLANS TO GO ALL-ELECTRIC BY THE END OF THE DECADE   - Daimler said Thursday that its Mercedes-Benz brand would “be ready to go all electric at the end of the decade, where market conditions allow.”   - from 2025 all of Mercedes-Benz' “newly launched vehicle architectures will be electric-only.”   - Daimler explained how it planned to launch three pure-electric architectures that year: MB.EA, which will relate to medium and large passenger cars; AMG.EA, which will focus on performance vehicles; and VAN.EA, for light commercial vehicles and vans. Models based on these platforms will be electric only.   - From 2025 onward, consumers will also have the option of purchasing an “all-electric alternative for every model the company makes.”   - “In total, investments into battery electric vehicles between 2022 and 2030 will amount to over 40 billion euros.”   Original Source : https://www.cnbc.com/2021/07/22/mercedes-plans-to-go-all-electric-by-the-end-of-the-decade.html   MERCEDES ACCELERATES ELECTRIC SHIFT WITH $47 BILLION PUSH   - Mercedes is betting the luxury segment will shift faster toward battery cars than the mass market because of customers' greater purchasing power.   - The company didn't give a concrete date for when it will phase out combustion engines, saying the pace of the shift toward EVs will vary widely across regions. It pledged to be ready to go all-electric by the end of the decade where conditions allow.   - It's flanking the EQS with models including the compact EQA and plans to unveil the electric version of its bestselling E-Class sedan at the Munich auto show in September.   - Mercedes said it expects plug-in hybrid and fully electric cars to account for more than half of global car sales by 2025, five years sooner than the company forecast months ago. By 2039, it aims to turn its new-car fleet carbon-neutral.   Original Source : https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-07-22/mercedes-vows-to-be-ready-for-car-markets-going-electric-only   MERCEDES-BENZ TO BUILD EIGHT BATTERY FACTORIES   - “We have a very clear plan to rapidly scale BEVs; we want to get on this journey to a BEV (battery electric) only world,” Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG CEO Ola Källenius said during a media call after the announcement. “We want to be the people that make that happen, not just let it happen for us and go with the flow, but really taking initiative. And we believe also that the luxury segment, where we belong, has all the hallmarks of being a leading segment for this transition.”   - Thursday it acquired U.K.-based electric motor company YASA, and has determined it will need battery capacity of more than 200 gigawatt hours. To hit meet those needs, Mercedes plans to set up eight battery factories with existing partners and one new partner to produce cells.   - The new plants, which includes one in the United States, four in Europe and three in China, is on top of the company's already planned network of nine factories that will be dedicated to building battery systems.   - The company said it will team up with new European partners to develop and efficiently produce future cells and modules.   - Mercedes said it has partnered with Sila Nano, the Silicon Valley battery materials startup that raised $590 million earlier this year, to help it improve its next generation of batteries. Specifically, Sila Nano is helping Mercedes increase energy density by using silicon-carbon composite in the anode, which should boost range and allow for shorter charging times. Mercedes is also looking into solid-state battery technology.   Original Source : https://techcrunch.com/2021/07/22/mercedes-benz-to-build-eight-battery-factories-in-push-to-become-electric-only-automaker-by-2030   ELECTRIC MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS LAUNCHES IN 2024   - Mercedes-Benz will launch a battery-electric version of the iconic G-Class in 2024, the automaker said on Thursday. Confirmation of the electric G-Class, which could go by the name EQG, was made during a presentation outlining Mercedes' plans to transition to a full-electric brand by 2030.   - The big and blocky G-Class will require a substantial kilowatt-hour rating and Mercedes may want to wait until battery technology improves. It isn't clear whether Mercedes will electrify the G-Class platform, or install the G-Class body on one of its electric platforms.   - if you want an electric G-Class today, there's a company in Austria by the name of Kreisel that offers an electric conversion,   Original Source : https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1125923_electric-mercedes-benz-g-class-launches-in-2024   CHINA FRICTIONS STEER ELECTRIC AUTOMAKERS AWAY FROM RARE EARTH MAGNETS   - As tensions mount between China and the United States, automakers in the West are trying to reduce their reliance on a key driver of the electric vehicle revolution - permanent magnets, sometimes smaller than a pack of cards, that power electric engines. Most are made of rare earth metals from China.   - Now manufacturers amounting to nearly half global sales say they are limiting their use, a Reuters analysis found.   - Because some can generate a constant magnetic force, the magnets they make are known as permanent magnets.   - BMW says it has redesigned its EV technology to make up for a lack of rare earths; Renault SA (RENA.PA) has slotted its rare-earth-free Zoe model into a growing niche of small urban cars that do not need extended driving ranges.   - Over the past two decades, Western countries largely withdrew from producing rare earth metals, which involves complex processing and often noxious byproducts. Today, China's dominance runs through the entire production chain.   Original Source : https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/china-frictions-steer-electric-automakers-away-rare-earth-magnets-2021-07-19/   NEW YORK CITY DOT TO INSTALL 120 CURBSIDE LEVEL 2 CHARGERS   - New York City plans to install its first curbside charging stations by this October. According to The Wall Street Journal, the city's Department of Transportation will install 100 Level 2 charging ports for public use and 20 for the city's vehicle fleet. Public charging will reportedly cost $2.50 per hour during the day and $1 per hour overnight.   - The first of the city's new charging stations has been installed in the Norwood section of the Bronx. The DOT has picked network operator FLO to manage the network under contract with local utility Consolidated Edison.   Original Source : https://chargedevs.com/newswire/new-york-city-dot-to-install-120-curbside-level-2-chargers/   SHELL RECHARGE IS COMING TO WAITROSE   - Shell Recharge has announced plans to build hundreds of electric vehicle charging points at Waitrose stores over the next few years. The supermarket chain specifically plans to host up to 800 charging stations at up to 100 Waitrose stores across the UK by 2025.   - the deal will see Shell Recharge equipping roughly a third of Waitrose locations with EV charging. Each location is expected to have six 22 kW and two 50 kW chargers, making a total 6,400 chargers.   - This will represent the first move from Shell Recharge into destination charging, with customers able to charge their vehicle while shopping.   Original Source : https://www.zap-map.com/shell-recharge-coming-to-waitrose/   TESLA DROPS DOWN THE RANKINGS TO ‘BELOW AVERAGE QUALITY'   - Tesla has dropped to ‘below average quality' while three leading Chinese electric vehicle start-ups are now making ‘top-quality cars' in their respective segments, according to a new survey, ratcheting up pressure on the global leader in the world's largest automotive market.   - Tesla's Model 3 ranked third in the midsize battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment, falling behind BYD Co's Han BEV and Xpeng's P7, according to the JD Power 2021 China New Energy Vehicle Initial Quality Study released on Thursday   - NIO's ES6 now ranks highest in China's luxury BEV segment, the Xpeng's G3 is the best compact BEV while Li Auto's Li One secured the top spot in the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV)   Original Source : https://www.scmp.com/business/companies/article/3142148/tesla-drops-down-rankings-below-average-quality-mainland-auto   TESLA RAISES PRICES ON MODEL 3 AND MODEL Y Original Source : https://www.thestreet.com/tesla/news/tesla-raises-prices-on-model-3-and-model-y-jul-22   TESLA PUTS NEW MODEL S DELIVERIES ON HOLD, AND IT'S UNCLEAR WHY Original Source : https://electrek.co/2021/07/23/tesla-puts-new-model-s-deliveries-on-hold/   MERCEDES CHARGING $575 PER YEAR IN GERMANY FOR 10-DEGREE REAR STEERING ON EQS Original Source : https://www.motor1.com/news/521960/mercedes-eqs-rear-wheel-steering   S. The transition to BEV in cars account for 54% of orders in June compared to 32% in the same month last year. Over the Past 12 months, 41% of orders were for BEVs.   - Demand for electric vans also increased in June to account for 69% of van orders compared to 1% in June 2020. Over the last 12 months, demand for fully electric vans has built to account for almost 1 in 3 van orders.   - Zenith says that salary sacrifice is helping company car drivers to transition to BEVs. In one scheme, 85% of orders have been for BEVs, with the remaining 15% for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. It will lead to an average saving of 372 tonnes of carbon for each year the vehicles are on the road.   Original Source : https://leasingbrokernews.co.uk/ev-orders-surpass-ice-vehicles-at-zenith   TESLA MODEL 3 IS #1 ELECTRIC CAR IN GERMANY IN JUNE, VW E-UP REMAINS 2021 LEADER   - The German plugin vehicle market scored over 64,000 registrations last month, with both plugin powertrains rising fast   - last month's plugin share ended at 24% (12% BEV), with BEVs outselling PHEVs for the first time this year   - The yearly plugin vehicle market share climbed to 23% (11% BEV). There were 312,287 plugin vehicle registrations in the first half of the year. So, this market is firmly in The Disruption Zone and well ahead of last year's score of 14% plugin vehicle market share. Will we see the final 2021 market share hit 25% 30%?   - Looking at last month's best sellers, the Tesla Model 3 was the winner, hitting 4,462 deliveries, a new record for the sports sedan in Germany. The Tesla top seller ended ahead of the two Volkswagen frontrunners, the #2 e-Up and the #3 ID.3, which, by the way, had its best score of 2021 last month (2,448 registrations). Expect the compact Volkswagen to have a stronger second half of 2021.   - we should mention that several new models are in ramp-up mode, like the Korean Hyundai Ioniq 5, an XL retro-hatchback with a unique personality. It scored 514 registrations in only its 2nd month on the market. The Opel Mokka EV, possibly the most attractive model in the whole Opel lineup, hit a record 655 registrations last month and could be another Stellantis model to reach the table soon. There's also the Opel Corsa EV and Fiat 500e.   Original Source : https://cleantechnica.com/2021/07/18/tesla-model-3-is-1-electric-car-in-germany-in-june-vw-e-up-remains-2021-leader/   NYPD BUYS $47K TESLA MODEL 3 FOR HIGHWAY PATROL DIVISION   - The NYPD has added a new eco-friendly ride to its fleet: a Tesla Model 3, The Post has learned.   - The luxury electric vehicle — which came with a $47,740 price tag — will be used by the department's highway patrol division, city records show.   - The department, which acquired the ride last month, said the long-range version of the car "is optimized for police highway patrol operations," according to the procurement papers.   - Other police departments have also bought Teslas and say they expect thousands of dollars in savings on gas.   - In December, when Hastings-On-Hudson unveiled its new electric patrol car, the department just north of the Big Apple told News12 it would save $8,500 in fuel within five years.   Original Source : https://www.foxnews.com/auto/nypd-buys-47k-tesla-model-3-for-highway-patrol-division   MODEL 3 POLICE CRUISER SAVE TENS OF THOUSANDS   - The purchase premium is recouped in one year. After four years, the savings are enough to pay for another Tesla. One EV saves 23.5 tons of CO2 emissions annually.   - Using a Tesla Model 3 for police duty was a new idea back in Dec. 2019 when the Westport Police acquired one for use as a fully customized police cruiser, going into service in Feb. 2020. This was the second Model 3 to be acquired by a police force (Bargersville, IN was the first), but according to the Westport Police, this was the first one to be fully tricked out for law enforcement.   - The biggest single item in the customization is the license plate reader, and it is here that there was a savings of $10,000 ($8,000 vs $18,000) due to taking advantage of the technology native to the Tesla. As far as Pilot discounts, there was no charge for added cameras, lights, siren, and the weapons rack. These discounts amounted to just over $14,000.   - There are two items that applied only to the Tesla. One is a spare tire for $800. (The Ford comes with a spare.) The other is a charging station at a cost of $1000 for hardware and installation.   - The department is getting two shifts per day on a single charge and charging the vehicle overnight. This is assumed to be the usage pattern of future Teslas, so the conservative assumption on charging is that the charging equipment expense will be required for each Tesla procured and it is included in the Next vehicle. There could potentially be a savings opportunity in the future with a dual-port charger.   - The costs were calculated based on driving 23,060 miles in a year.   Original Source : https://evclubct.com/tesla-police-vehicle-saves-westport-tens-of-thousands-of-dollars/   ELECTRIC MERCEDES G-CLASS COULD COME TO IAA MUNICH AS EQG CONCEPT   - A new report from German magazine mbpassionblog claims we will get a first taste of the silent G-Class in early September at the IAA in Munich. It is believed an EQG concept will be unveiled at the show to preview the production model arriving either next year or in 2023. Confirmed technical specifications are not available at this point, but it's safe to assume it will have dual electric motors to enable a four-wheel-drive system everyone expects from a G.   - EQG won't be a dedicated electric vehicle as it's the case with the flagship EQS and the upcoming EQE, with both getting SUV versions in 2022. Instead, the EQG is believed to take the shape of an electric adaptation of the combustion-engined G-Class. It's said to have all the off-road tricks of the conventionally powered model along with a large 108-kWh battery with enough juice for about 311 miles (500 kilometers) of range   Original Source : https://www.motor1.com/news/521003/mercedes-eqg-iaa-munich-2021/   LIGHTYEAR ONE WILL BE MANUFACTURED BY VALMET AUTOMOTIVE   - Valmet Automotive, a manufacturing contractor who also delivered the Fisker Karma, the original Porsche Boxter and Cayman, and multiple Saab and Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Valmet Automotive will now be in charge of producing the Lightyear One, as the two companies announced.   - the Lightyear One, it is the electric car with substantial solar panels over its body that managed to run 710 km with a fully charged 60 kWh battery pack. That will make it one of the most efficient electric vehicles around when deliveries start. Valmet Automotive should start producing it in summer 2022. The first prototypes should be built in January 2022.   - 11.8 km/kWh – or 7.3 mi/kWh,   Original Source : https://www.autoevolution.com/news/lightyear-one-will-be-manufactured-by-valmet-automotive-from-summer-2022-on-165535.html   REBOOTED SMART TO PREVIEW ELECTRIC CROSSOVER AT 2021 MUNICH AUTO SHOW   - A rejuvenated Smart will use the inaugural international mobility show taking place in Munich, Germany, in September to present a concept car previewing an upcoming electric crossover.   - over the weekend Mercedes-Benz's design chief, Gorden Wagener, who is leading the design of a future battery-electric Smart lineup, posted new teaser photos to social media.   - Expect the production version of the concept to be a subcompact model similar in size to the Mini Countryman. Smart will also continue to offer a new generation of its traditional minicars.   - The new Munich mobility show, which has replaced Germany's traditional auto show in Frankfurt, starts Sept. 6.   Original Source : https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1132301_rebooted-smart-to-preview-electric-crossover-2021-munich-auto-show   VW TO MAKE EV BATTERIES WITH CHINA'S GUOXUAN IN GERMANY   - In May 2020, VW announced the acquisition of a 26% stake in Guoxuan, China's third-largest EV battery maker after Contemporary Amperex Technology and BYD.   - The German auto group will build its second EV battery plant in Salzgitter in a joint effort with Guoxuan High-tech to produce low-cost batteries for economy EVs, the company said in a statement on last Tuesday.   Original Source : https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Automobiles/VW-to-make-EV-batteries-with-China-s-Guoxuan-in-Germany   TESLA'S GROHMANN FACILITY EXPANSION IN GERMANY IS NEARING COMPLETION   Original Source : https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-grohmann-expansion-germany-completion-update/   ELECTRIFY AMERICA COMPLIMENTARY CHARGING TO VOLVO Original Source : https://electriccarsreport.com/2021/07/electrify-america-to-provide-complimentary-nationwide-fast-charging-to-volvo-xc40-recharge-and-c40-recharge-owners/   TESLA MODEL 3 LR 82 KWH: NEW RECORD IN BJØRN'S 1,000 KM CHALLENGE   Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/521066/tesla-model3-lr-record-1000km/   BENELUX COUNTRIES TO ENSURE CHARGING ACROSS BORDERS   Original Source : https://www.electrive.com/2021/07/18/benelux-countries-to-ensure-charging-across-borders/   SINGAPORE LOOKS TO POWER UP ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING NETWORK   Original Source : https://www.zdnet.com/article/singapore-looks-to-power-up-electric-vehicle-charging-network/   QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM   With chargers still being rolled out, should they automatically stop charging (and should the car release the cable) at 80%?   Email me your thoughts and I'll read them out on Sunday – hello@evnewsdaily.com   It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast.   And  if you have an Amazon Echo, download our Alexa Skill, search for EV News Daily and add it as a flash briefing.   Come and say hi on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter just search EV News Daily, have a wonderful day, I'll catch you tomorrow and remember…there's no such thing as a self-charging hybrid.   PREMIUM PARTNERS PHIL ROBERTS / ELECTRIC FUTURE BRAD CROSBY PORSCHE OF THE VILLAGE CINCINNATI AUDI CINCINNATI EAST VOLVO CARS CINCINNATI EAST NATIONALCARCHARGING.COM and ALOHACHARGE.COM DEREK REILLY FROM THE EV REVIEW IRELAND YOUTUBE CHANNEL RICHARD AT RSEV.CO.UK – FOR BUYING AND SELLING EVS IN THE UK EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM/

We talked about the Nissan price reductions, but one listener asked how MUCH was the LEAF reduced by? So here goes with a number dump...   Acenta £25,995 (£1,350) N-Connecta £27,995 (£650) LEAF 10 £28,670 (£650) Tekna £29,995 (£665) E+ N-Connecta £30,445 (Downwards arrow £5,250) E+ Tekna £32,445 (Downwards arrow £5,265)   TESLA MODEL 3 SELLS WELL IN UK & GERMANY Second follow up from yesterday we talked about the UK plug-in share being 14% in March, but what about specific cars? "As usual, we have very thin up-to-date numbers from the SMMT on popular plugin models in the UK. Worth noting is that several of the top 10 best selling autos now have plugin variants (table below)." says Max Holland at CleanTechnica: "The Tesla Model 3, thanks to its usual end-of-quarter push, did get in to the top 10 overall autos in March, at #4 spot. Its total volume over the first quarter – of around 7,300 – should have put it at a respectable #11 spot on the overall best sellers list for the year so far, a good result." Remember the UK government removed the car grant on March 18th but Tesla responded by saying they would artificially rude their prices, ie keep them the same for the customer, IF you ordered by March 31st. So Tesla taking the hit might have persuaded people to bring forward purchases.   Tesla's German registrations in Q1 were up 83% year-over-year. Tesla registered 6,074 vehicles in Germany. In March alone it was 3,703. In Germany most EVs were sold by VW though, with over 10,000 in Feb of the ID.3, e-UP and PHEV Golf.   https://cleantechnica.com/2021/04/06/uk-hits-13-9-plugin-share-in-march-up-almost-2x-year-on-year   BMW GROUP SOLD OVER 70,000 PLUG-INS IN Q1 BMW Group sales of electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles totaled 70,207 in in the first quarter of the year, an increase of 129.8% percent over the 30,692 sold in the same period a year ago. With the BMW iX3, which was just released in Europe a few weeks ago, the BMW i3 and the MINI Cooper SE, the BMW Group already offers a strong range of fully-electric vehicles that will be joined over the course of the year by two key innovation flagships: the BMW iX and the BMW i4. The BMW Group expects fully-electric vehicles to account for at least 50% of its global sales in 2030. The MINI brand is likely to reach this milestone already in 2027.   MERCEDES SNAGS A EUROPEAN TRADEMARK FOR EQG "Last fall, Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius talked about the company's plans to electrify its popular G-Class SUV, and now, a European Union Intellectual Property Office filing found by members of the MBEQClub forum and reported on by The Drive Friday shows that Mercedes has trademarked the name "EQG." " says CNET: "This trademark filing very likely means that Mercedes is planning on offering a fully-battery-electric Geländewagen, rather than one that's merely been "electrified" with a hybrid system."   https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/mercedes-snags-a-european-trademark-for-eqg/   TESLA ROLLS OUT PREFAB SUPERCHARGER "A recent Supercharger installation in Beaver, Utah, has caught the eye of the electric vehicle community. Based on an image shared of the Supercharger site, it appears that the charging stalls have been pre-installed on a large concrete slab. Speculations initially suggested that the setup was just an updated iteration of the Megapack-powered mobile Superchargers that Tesla deploys during peak seasons, but it soon became evident that the setup in the recently-shared images was quite different. " reports Teslarati: "By setting up the Superchargers and their electronics on large concrete slabs even before they are placed in their respective locations, Tesla would be able to complete Supercharger installations much faster. It could also help the company install large numbers of Superchargers more efficiently.   The pic shows a line of 4 superchargers and 2 cabinets on one flatbed truck.   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-prefab-supercharger-images/   TESLA DELAYS DELIVERIES OF NEW MODEL S AND MODEL X ELECTRIC VEHICLES "Tesla buyers who ordered the new, recently refreshed Model S and Model X models are seeing their deliveries being pushed back as the automaker is experiencing delays in bringing the vehicles to production. When Tesla unveiled the new refreshed Model S and Model X in January, CEO Elon Musk said that the first deliveries would happen within a few weeks." says electrek: " That was six weeks ago, and there has yet to be a single reported new Model S or Model X delivery. Tesla appears to have run into some issues in producing and/or getting the new Model S and Model X ready for deliveries. Now, many Tesla buyers who placed orders early after the new Model S was launched are seeing their estimated delivery dates pushed back by a few months."   Elon Musk said on the earning call that he would hold an event within a couple of weeks to discuss the cars in more detail...that never happened.   https://electrek.co/2021/04/07/tesla-delays-deliveries-new-model-s-x-electric-vehicles/   2021 WORLD CAR OF THE YEAR: VW ID.4 AND HONDA E AMONG FINALISTS "The recently announced short list of finalists for The 2021 World Car of the Year (WCOTY) award include several electric cars - two in the main category. Volkswagen ID.4 and Honda e will compete for the World Car of the Year title. We can see two more all-electric models - Polestar 2 and Mazda MX-30 - considered also in specific categories" says InsideEVs: "The last time we saw an electric car on the top was the Jaguar I-PACE in 2019, and previously the Nissan LEAF in 2011."   "A jury of 93 distinguished international automotive journalists selected the finalists by secret ballot based on their evaluation of each eligible vehicle as part of their professional work. KPMG tabulated the vote results."   Honda e also up for World Urban Car, Polestar 2 for World Luxury Car and MX-30 for World Car Design Of The Year.   https://insideevs.com/news/499545/2021-wcoty-finalists-volkswagen-id4/   ANDROID AUTO GETS NAVIGATION AND EV CHARGING APPS "Users of Android Auto should start to see a greater selection of in-car compatible apps on the Play Store. According to an announcement on Google’s Android developer blog, Android Auto devs working on navigation, parking, and EV charging apps can now push them to production." according to TheNextWeb: "Apps from the likes of Chargepoint, PlugShare, A Better Route Planner, and T Map, should start appearing on the Play Store very soon. Drivers can now use the apps as part of Android Auto on their car’s main infotainment screen without needing to be signed up to the beta program."   https://thenextweb.com/shift/2021/04/06/get-ready-heaps-more-android-auto-apps/   HYUNDAI-KIA WON’T USE CANOO EV PLATFORM "Canoo’s deal with Hyundai-Kia announced last year appears to have fallen flat. New Canoo chairman Tony Aquila broke the news last Monday during an “icy investor call,” as The Verge reports. The collapse is set against a backdrop of a strategy change at Canoo." reports electrive: "The Californian start-up seems to want to keep their skateboard platform to themselves and sell vehicles to fleet operators rather than selling the EV technology to third parties. Canoo had announced the deal with Hyundai in February 2020, and it was supposed to result in both the Hyundai and Kia brands building vehicles on Canoo’s electric vehicle platform."   https://www.electrive.com/2021/04/05/hyundai-kia-wont-use-canoo-ev-platform-it-appears/   HYUNDAI UNVEILS 2021 KONA ELECTRIC PRICING FOR AUS "Hyundai has released pricing and specifications details for the 2021 Kona Electric, which gets not only a fresh new face but also an increase in range and new driver-assist and technology features. Doing away with the honeycomb-style “grille” in favour of a sleeker nose and lines, the 2021 Hyundai Kona Electric offers 484km (WLTP) driving range up from the 2019 model’s 449km, thanks in part to new low rolling resistance tyres." says thedriven.io: "It will still offer the same 150kW power output from its single-speed motor, as well as the same battery size, but pricing will increase slightly to a base price of $62,000 for the Elite model and $66,000 for the range-topping Highlander."   https://thedriven.io/2021/04/07/hyundai-unveils-2021-kona-electric-pricing-with-longer-range-and-design-tweaks/   BLUE BIRD DELIVERS ELECTRIC SCHOOL BUS EQUIPPED WITH NUVVE V2G TECH "Iconic school bus manufacturer Blue Bird has delivered an electric school bus equipped with V2G (vehicle-to-grid) technology from Nuvve, one of two Blue Bird Type C electric buses delivered to two school districts in Illinois. The e-buses are powered by the Cummins PowerDrive EV system." says ChargedEVs: "Nuvve’s V2G platform allows the bus batteries to store energy, allowing fleets to sell energy to local utilities at times of peak demand. The system can also be used to supply energy to the school and to intelligently charge the buses during non-peak hours to reduce utility demand charges. Hollis Consolidated School District’s latest e-bus purchase makes the district’s fleet 100% electric. "   https://chargedevs.com/newswire/blue-bird-delivers-electric-school-bus-equipped-with-nuvve-v2g-tech/   NEW CUPRA BORN - WINTER TESTING AT -30 DEGREES "Winter time just a few kilometres from the Arctic Circle. A completely white land, where about 200 words are used to describe snow by the local culture, with temperatures reaching 30 below zero and a circuit on a 6 km2 frozen lake.  The CUPRA engineers have spent two years testing the car on this harsh environment, using cutting-edge technology to take the development of the CUPRA Born to the highest level. Now in the final test stage before its launch, they are pushing the brand’s first 100% electric car to its limits in the most difficult conditions."   Will be made alongside the ID.3 and ID.4 in Germany.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVAfi_cjn3g&ab_channel=RECAnything   QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM   What EV do you want to see your favourite car maker launch which they haven’t already?     It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast.   And  if you have an Amazon Echo, download our Alexa Skill, search for EV News Daily and add it as a flash briefing.   Come and say hi on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter just search EV News Daily, have a wonderful day, I’ll catch you tomorrow and remember…there’s no such thing as a self-charging hybrid.     PHIL ROBERTS / ELECTRIC FUTURE (PREMIUM PARTNER) BRAD CROSBY (PREMIUM PARTNER) PORSCHE OF THE VILLAGE CINCINNATI (PREMIUM PARTNER) AUDI CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) VOLVO CARS CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) NATIONALCARCHARGING.COM and ALOHACHARGE.COM  (PREMIUM PARTNER) DEREK REILLY FROM THE EV REVIEW IRELAND YOUTUBE CHANNEL (PREMIUM PARTNER) RICHARD AT RSEV.CO.UK – FOR BUYING AND SELLING EVS IN THE UK (PREMIUM PARTNER) eMOBILITY NORWAY HTTPS://WWW.EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM/  (PREMIUM PARTNER)     DAVID AND LISA ALLEN (PARTNER) GARETH HAMER (PARTNER) BOB BOOTHBY FROM MILLBROOK COTTAGES – 5* GOLD SELF CATERING COTTAGES (PARTNER) DARIN MCLESKEY FROM DENOVO REAL ESTATE (PARTNER) JUKKA KUKONEN FROM WWW.SHIFT2ELECTRIC.COM RAJEEV NARAYAN (PARTNER) IAIN SEAR (PARTNER)   ADRIAN BOND (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALAN SHEDD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEX BANAHENE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEXANDER FRANK @ https://www.youtube.com/c/alexsuniverse42 ANDERS HOVE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREA JEFFERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREW GREEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDY NANCARROW AND LILIAN KASS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ASEER KHALID (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BÅRD FJUKSTAD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BLUNDERBUSS JONES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER BRIAN THOMPSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRUCE BOHANNAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHARLES HALL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRIS HOPKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRISTOPHER BARTH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) COLIN HENNESSY AND CAMBSEV (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG ROGERS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAMIEN DAVIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID FINCH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID MOORE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PARTINGTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PRESCOTT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DC EV (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DON MCALLISTER / SCREENCASTSONLINE.COM (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ED CORTREEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERIC HANSEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERU KYEYUNE-NYOMBI (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) FREDRIK ROVIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GENE RUBIN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEDLEY WRIGHT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEINRICH LIESNER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN GRIFFITHS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN (WATTIE) WATKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JACK OAKLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JAMES STORR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JAVIER CARMELO DÍAZ PÉREZ (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JIM MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JOHN SCHROEDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON AKA BEARDY MCBEARDFACE FROM KENT EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON MANCHAK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JUAN GONZALEZ (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEVIN MEYERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LAURENCE D ALLEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LEE BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LUKE CULLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARCEL WARD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARTY YOUNG  (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIA OPPELSTRUP (PARTNER) MIKE WINTER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHAN GORE-BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHANIEL FREEDMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NEIL E ROBERTS FROM SUSSEX EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) OHAD ASTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PAUL STEPHENSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GLASS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GORTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETER & DEE ROBERTS FROM OXON EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHIL MOUCHET (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHILIP TRAUTMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RAYMOND ROWLEDGE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENE KEEMIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENÉ SCHNEIDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB FROM THE RSTHINKS EV CHANNEL ON YOUTUBE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROBERT GRACE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RUPERT MITCHELL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) SEIKI PAYNE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEPHEN PENN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEVE JOHN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) THOMAS J. Monday 9th April 2018. A shout out to Simon LaSalle who listen in Virginia. “Hi Martyn I enjoy the show every day, I like to support my favourite podcasts on Patreon, do you have a page?” Thanks Simon, I love hearing from people who enjoy the news every day. I must admit I’d had to pay for more storage and streaming because the podcast seems to have found a wider audience lately but no not yet, I’m happy to foot the cost myself but your support is really appreciated.   ELECTRIC GT We’ll start with a tease and GT Holding is the organisers of the electric Tesla GT series. ”Electric GT Holdings have got big news to share ... tomorrow! Follow us and sign up for our newsletter now so you don't miss the big announcement.” I’ll cover the news on tomorrows show for you. I’m hoping it’s going to be the dates of the first races, maybe some drivers, or even more specs on the cars. We know they were approved by the FIA on 1st Feb, and a week before that the car passed the crash tests. And that car being a Tesla P100DL.   MUSK TWEETS Elon has been using Twitter increasingly lately, not just for chat, but specific announcements. And in response to a question about the dual motor Model 3 he said:   CARWOW REVIEW LEAF 2.O One of the most visited car channels on YouTube is Carwow and now they’ve spent some time with the next gen Nissan LEAF. “The Nissan Leaf is a comfortable, eco-friendly family car with good looks. However, its infotainment system is outdated and the interior quality is inconsistent” Pros: Decent range Big boot for a car this size Nippy Cons: Some cheap-looking materials inside Regenerative brakes feel odd at first Dated infotainment MERCEDES ADD ANOTHER EV We’re quickly learning about the naming conventions of major car makers with their electric models. With VW we have the ID, ID CROZZ and ID VIZZION, with Audi it will be the e-tron range, with BMW we know they’ve registered iX1, iX2, iX3 etc. And with Mercedes, the EQC was quickly joined by the EQA and now the EQS, which will be C-Class sized. Electrive reports on Michael Kelz, head of development for the EQC Crossover which should be on sale by the end of this year, expects the EQS to be available by 2020. The sedan will be an individual model, based on the MEA architecture platform, and will not simply be an electric version of the existing vehicle, in this case the regular S-class. This marks a difference to the other traditional luxury car brands, as Audi and Jaguar both decided to electrify their vehicles instead of redesigning them, particularly with the Audi A8 and the Jaguar XJ. Concerning the name of the new vehicle, Mercedes has been planning the move since 2016, when they reserved the rightsto the names EQA, EQC, EQE, EQG and EQS in the UK. Recently the car manufacturer also reserved the naming rights in Canada for the EQ family additions. CNET say: “It will be separate from the standard S-Class, which is expected to begin a new generation in 2020, the same year that it's believed Mercedes will debut the EQ S. The two cars will reportedly be built on separate platforms, with the EQ S relying on an EV-specific chassis engineered to accommodate large batteries.”   FORD STLL UNCLEAR ON ELECTRIC FUTURE Ford aren’t exactly known as electric trailblazers, and 247WallSt website reports: “Year to date Ford’s shares are down 11.7%. GM’s are off 9.9%. Toyota’s are down 2.3%. Ford’s domestic sales rose 3.5% in March to 243,021. Its sales for the first quarter are down 2.7%. The deeper issue is whether Ford has a chance to be a leader in electric cars and autonomous vehicles. CEO Jim Hackett’s plans have not caught the eyes of investors. Ford is seen as too far behind most of the industry for both categories. It not only faces massive plans from every other major car company but from smaller companies led by Tesla”.   ELECTRIFY THE SKIES Thelocal.no report on regional carrier Wideroe Airlines, operating in Norway's far north, plans to renew its fleet of twin-engine Bombardier Dash 8 planes with electric-powered aircraft by 2030: “"Many people say that we must get rid of air transport because we will never be able to deal with emissions and noise, but this is an outdated approach," said Norwegian Transport Minister Ketil Solvik-Olsen, who recently hosted an aviation conference in Oslo. Norway, the largest oil and gas producer in western Europe, is paradoxically a pioneer in the field of electric transport. The Nordic nation aims for all new vehicle registrations to be zero emission by 2025and launched a first electric ferry in early 2015.” After land and water, the northern kingdom is now turning to the sky with the goal of electrifying all short haul flights in just over 20 years. "In my mind, there is no doubt: by 2040 Norway will be operating totally electric," said Dag Falk-Petersen, head of the country's public airport operator, Avinor.   I’d love to spread the word about electric cars so, if you can, share this somebody who might be interested.
