It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. PLUG-IN CAR GRANT CUT FROM £2,500 TO £1,500 - The Government has brought yet another round of cuts to its plug-in car grant. Buyers can now only claim a maximum of £1,500 off the price of a new eligible plug-in car (£1,000 less than before) on models costing no more than £32,000 – £3,000 less than previously. - The plug-in van grant has also been cut to £5,000 for large vans and £2,500 for small vans, with a limit of 1,000 customers per year. Plug-in motorcycles will benefit from a maximum of £500 off and mopeds £150. - Mike Hawes, chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), said the cuts represented "a blow to customers". Original Source : https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/354541/plug-car-grant-cut-ps2500-ps1500 IMMEDIATE CUTS TO GOVERNMENT EV GRANTS  - For the second time this year, the Government has announced instant cuts to the electric vehicle grant, with a £1000 reduction in the amount offered on cars taking it to £1500, and the threshold dropping by £3000 so only vehicles under £32,000 now qualify. - The updated Government website lists the cars still eligible for the grant, although it remains to be seen whether price alignments to get under the new thresholds will be announced in the coming days and weeks, as was the case from the likes of BMW, Citroen, DS, Hyundai, Kia, Peugeot, Vauxhall and others when the previous change was announced in March. The new Citroen e-Berlingo and Peugeot e-Rifter in particular have model priced just above the £32,000 point. - Cars no longer qualifying due to reduced price threshold (subject to any price realignments in reaction to the grant changes): BMW i3 Citroen e-C4 Citroen SpaceTourer Hyundai Ioniq Kia Niro Kia Soul Peugeot e-2008 Skoda Enyaq Vauxhall Mokka-e Vauxhall Vivaro e-Life Volkswagen ID.4 Original Source : https://www.companycartoday.co.uk/immediate-cuts-to-government-ev-grants/ NEW GERMAN GOVERNMENT TO REVAMP INCENTIVES FOR ELECTRIC CARS - Germany's new government said Monday it is extending the country's current system of incentive payments for buyers of electric and hybrid cars for a year but then plans to impose tougher requirements for vehicles to qualify for the support. - The economy and climate ministry that was set up when Germany's new government took office last week said it will only provide payments starting in 2023 for “electric vehicles that demonstrably have a positive climate-protection effect.” - For the next year, the current system will still apply, making buyers of electric-only cars eligible for incentives of up to 9,000 euros (about $10,200) and qualifying buyers of plug-in hybrids for up to 6,750 euros. Original Source : https://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory/german-government-revamp-incentives-electric-cars-81718327 GERMANY TO BOOST ELECTRIC CAR SALES BY EXTENDING €9,000 HELP TO BUY SUBSIDIES - The government's goal is to see 15 million purely electrified cars in circulation by 2030. So far, Germany has seen only 520,000 of them roll off dealerships' forecourts, according to AFP.This financial support, introduced in July 2020, has played a key role in the record increase in the market share of electrified vehicles in Germany, - In May 2021, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Peter Altmaier announced his intention to make the payment process easier for charging stations. “For eMobility to really breakthrough, we must not only provide funding for electric vehicles, but also make the charging process and payment for this more convenient,” Altmaier said.“In future, the charging stations that are open to the public will accept standard credit and debit cards. This means that these charging stations will be open to everyone – including customers that do not own a smartphone. As credit cards work everywhere, this also opens up charging stations to cross-border travel.”. But with a number of tweaks that mean it's smaller and more efficient than current cars, but still has buckets of room inside. - Arrival announced that it had teamed up with Uber to create a “purpose-built vehicle for ride-hailing.” It's a project with an ambitious deadline, too, with the first models expected to roll off the production line in Q3, 2023. - The Arrival Car is deeply uncool, a box on wheels with an emphasis on maximizing the internal space for passengers. It has the same silhouette as a French-made minivan; you could easily imagine a line of these parked outside a Saturday-morning under 15's soccer match. But, because it wholly rejects the need to be aesthetic for the sake of aesthetics, it's also quite cool. The premium manufacturer is earmarking about €18 billion for electrification and hybridization alone and thereby emphasizing its clear commitment to electromobility. - With the new models Audi e-tron GT quattro, Audi RS e-tron GT, and the first fully electric models in the compact segment, the Audi Q4 e-tron and Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron, the electric portfolio has grown by four additional models. By 2025, the company aims to have more than 20 fully electric models in its lineup. The Lucid Air, for example, has the longest range of any electric car on the market with up to 520 miles on a charge. It's tough to imagine an EV beating that range estimate anytime soon, but if anyone can beat Lucid Motors, it's Mercedes-Benz. - More than one year ago, Mercedes teased an EV with a staggering 750-mile range, called the Vision EQXX. The vehicle will be revealed (in concept form) on January 3, 2022, but before then, the German automaker just released a new teaser for its most efficient car ever. - To achieve a 750-mile range, the EQXX will likely sport a massive battery pack and an extremely low drag coefficient. - Mercedes may not give us full battery details when it reveals the EQXX, but the German automaker promises it will "[increase] the energy density at the cell level by a further 20% compared to the EQS," Original Source : https://carbuzz.com/news/mercedes-teases-new-ev-that-will-destroy-everyone-on-range LIGHTYEAR'S NEW SOLAR EV WILL REQUIRE FIVE TIMES LESS CHARGING THAN ITS PREDECESSOR - While we eagerly wait for Lightyear One the solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) to go into production, its makers have already announced a more cost-friendly version model that will offer twice the range of similarly priced vehicles, - managed to use the car in European summer without having to charge it at all. The car manages this with solar panels that are seamlessly present on its surface and with high-efficiency motors that use up to three times lesser power per kilometer than EVs in the market today, the company claims. - currently offer. It's  Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they've built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   EV ORDERS SURPASS ICE VEHICLES AT ZENITH   - JUNE saw orders for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) overtake internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles for the first time at independent leasing and fleet management company Zenith. The transition to BEV in cars account for 54% of orders in June compared to 32% in the same month last year. Over the Past 12 months, 41% of orders were for BEVs.   - Demand for electric vans also increased in June to account for 69% of van orders compared to 1% in June 2020. Over the last 12 months, demand for fully electric vans has built to account for almost 1 in 3 van orders.   - Zenith says that salary sacrifice is helping company car drivers to transition to BEVs. In one scheme, 85% of orders have been for BEVs, with the remaining 15% for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. It will lead to an average saving of 372 tonnes of carbon for each year the vehicles are on the road.   Original Source : https://leasingbrokernews.co.uk/ev-orders-surpass-ice-vehicles-at-zenith   TESLA MODEL 3 IS #1 ELECTRIC CAR IN GERMANY IN JUNE, VW E-UP REMAINS 2021 LEADER   - The German plugin vehicle market scored over 64,000 registrations last month, with both plugin powertrains rising fast   - last month's plugin share ended at 24% (12% BEV), with BEVs outselling PHEVs for the first time this year   - The yearly plugin vehicle market share climbed to 23% (11% BEV). There were 312,287 plugin vehicle registrations in the first half of the year. So, this market is firmly in The Disruption Zone and well ahead of last year's score of 14% plugin vehicle market share. Will we see the final 2021 market share hit 25% 30%?   - Looking at last month's best sellers, the Tesla Model 3 was the winner, hitting 4,462 deliveries, a new record for the sports sedan in Germany. The Tesla top seller ended ahead of the two Volkswagen frontrunners, the #2 e-Up and the #3 ID.3, which, by the way, had its best score of 2021 last month (2,448 registrations). Expect the compact Volkswagen to have a stronger second half of 2021.   - we should mention that several new models are in ramp-up mode, like the Korean Hyundai Ioniq 5, an XL retro-hatchback with a unique personality. It scored 514 registrations in only its 2nd month on the market. The Opel Mokka EV, possibly the most attractive model in the whole Opel lineup, hit a record 655 registrations last month and could be another Stellantis model to reach the table soon. There's also the Opel Corsa EV and Fiat 500e.   Original Source : https://cleantechnica.com/2021/07/18/tesla-model-3-is-1-electric-car-in-germany-in-june-vw-e-up-remains-2021-leader/   NYPD BUYS $47K TESLA MODEL 3 FOR HIGHWAY PATROL DIVISION   - The NYPD has added a new eco-friendly ride to its fleet: a Tesla Model 3, The Post has learned.   - The luxury electric vehicle — which came with a $47,740 price tag — will be used by the department's highway patrol division, city records show.   - The department, which acquired the ride last month, said the long-range version of the car "is optimized for police highway patrol operations," according to the procurement papers.   - Other police departments have also bought Teslas and say they expect thousands of dollars in savings on gas.   - In December, when Hastings-On-Hudson unveiled its new electric patrol car, the department just north of the Big Apple told News12 it would save $8,500 in fuel within five years.   Original Source : https://www.foxnews.com/auto/nypd-buys-47k-tesla-model-3-for-highway-patrol-division   MODEL 3 POLICE CRUISER SAVE TENS OF THOUSANDS   - The purchase premium is recouped in one year. After four years, the savings are enough to pay for another Tesla. One EV saves 23.5 tons of CO2 emissions annually.   - Using a Tesla Model 3 for police duty was a new idea back in Dec. 2019 when the Westport Police acquired one for use as a fully customized police cruiser, going into service in Feb. 2020. This was the second Model 3 to be acquired by a police force (Bargersville, IN was the first), but according to the Westport Police, this was the first one to be fully tricked out for law enforcement.   - The biggest single item in the customization is the license plate reader, and it is here that there was a savings of $10,000 ($8,000 vs $18,000) due to taking advantage of the technology native to the Tesla. As far as Pilot discounts, there was no charge for added cameras, lights, siren, and the weapons rack. These discounts amounted to just over $14,000.   - There are two items that applied only to the Tesla. One is a spare tire for $800. (The Ford comes with a spare.) The other is a charging station at a cost of $1000 for hardware and installation.   - The department is getting two shifts per day on a single charge and charging the vehicle overnight. This is assumed to be the usage pattern of future Teslas, so the conservative assumption on charging is that the charging equipment expense will be required for each Tesla procured and it is included in the Next vehicle. There could potentially be a savings opportunity in the future with a dual-port charger.   - The costs were calculated based on driving 23,060 miles in a year.   Original Source : https://evclubct.com/tesla-police-vehicle-saves-westport-tens-of-thousands-of-dollars/   ELECTRIC MERCEDES G-CLASS COULD COME TO IAA MUNICH AS EQG CONCEPT   - A new report from German magazine mbpassionblog claims we will get a first taste of the silent G-Class in early September at the IAA in Munich. It is believed an EQG concept will be unveiled at the show to preview the production model arriving either next year or in 2023. Confirmed technical specifications are not available at this point, but it's safe to assume it will have dual electric motors to enable a four-wheel-drive system everyone expects from a G.   - EQG won't be a dedicated electric vehicle as it's the case with the flagship EQS and the upcoming EQE, with both getting SUV versions in 2022. Instead, the EQG is believed to take the shape of an electric adaptation of the combustion-engined G-Class. It's said to have all the off-road tricks of the conventionally powered model along with a large 108-kWh battery with enough juice for about 311 miles (500 kilometers) of range   Original Source : https://www.motor1.com/news/521003/mercedes-eqg-iaa-munich-2021/   LIGHTYEAR ONE WILL BE MANUFACTURED BY VALMET AUTOMOTIVE   - Valmet Automotive, a manufacturing contractor who also delivered the Fisker Karma, the original Porsche Boxter and Cayman, and multiple Saab and Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Valmet Automotive will now be in charge of producing the Lightyear One, as the two companies announced.   - the Lightyear One, it is the electric car with substantial solar panels over its body that managed to run 710 km with a fully charged 60 kWh battery pack. That will make it one of the most efficient electric vehicles around when deliveries start. Valmet Automotive should start producing it in summer 2022. The first prototypes should be built in January 2022.   - 11.8 km/kWh – or 7.3 mi/kWh,   Original Source : https://www.autoevolution.com/news/lightyear-one-will-be-manufactured-by-valmet-automotive-from-summer-2022-on-165535.html   REBOOTED SMART TO PREVIEW ELECTRIC CROSSOVER AT 2021 MUNICH AUTO SHOW   - A rejuvenated Smart will use the inaugural international mobility show taking place in Munich, Germany, in September to present a concept car previewing an upcoming electric crossover.   - over the weekend Mercedes-Benz's design chief, Gorden Wagener, who is leading the design of a future battery-electric Smart lineup, posted new teaser photos to social media.   - Expect the production version of the concept to be a subcompact model similar in size to the Mini Countryman. Smart will also continue to offer a new generation of its traditional minicars.   - The new Munich mobility show, which has replaced Germany's traditional auto show in Frankfurt, starts Sept. 6.   Original Source : https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1132301_rebooted-smart-to-preview-electric-crossover-2021-munich-auto-show   VW TO MAKE EV BATTERIES WITH CHINA'S GUOXUAN IN GERMANY   - In May 2020, VW announced the acquisition of a 26% stake in Guoxuan, China's third-largest EV battery maker after Contemporary Amperex Technology and BYD.   - The German auto group will build its second EV battery plant in Salzgitter in a joint effort with Guoxuan High-tech to produce low-cost batteries for economy EVs, the company said in a statement on last Tuesday.   Original Source : https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Automobiles/VW-to-make-EV-batteries-with-China-s-Guoxuan-in-Germany   TESLA'S GROHMANN FACILITY EXPANSION IN GERMANY IS NEARING COMPLETION   Original Source : https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-grohmann-expansion-germany-completion-update/   ELECTRIFY AMERICA COMPLIMENTARY CHARGING TO VOLVO Original Source : https://electriccarsreport.com/2021/07/electrify-america-to-provide-complimentary-nationwide-fast-charging-to-volvo-xc40-recharge-and-c40-recharge-owners/   TESLA MODEL 3 LR 82 KWH: NEW RECORD IN BJØRN'S 1,000 KM CHALLENGE   Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/521066/tesla-model3-lr-record-1000km/   BENELUX COUNTRIES TO ENSURE CHARGING ACROSS BORDERS   Original Source : https://www.electrive.com/2021/07/18/benelux-countries-to-ensure-charging-across-borders/   SINGAPORE LOOKS TO POWER UP ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING NETWORK   Original Source : https://www.zdnet.com/article/singapore-looks-to-power-up-electric-vehicle-charging-network/   QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM   With chargers still being rolled out, should they automatically stop charging (and should the car release the cable) at 80%?   Email me your thoughts and I'll read them out on Sunday – hello@evnewsdaily.com   It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast.   And  if you have an Amazon Echo, download our Alexa Skill, search for EV News Daily and add it as a flash briefing.   Come and say hi on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter just search EV News Daily, have a wonderful day, I'll catch you tomorrow and remember…there's no such thing as a self-charging hybrid.   PREMIUM PARTNERS PHIL ROBERTS / ELECTRIC FUTURE BRAD CROSBY PORSCHE OF THE VILLAGE CINCINNATI AUDI CINCINNATI EAST VOLVO CARS CINCINNATI EAST NATIONALCARCHARGING.COM and ALOHACHARGE.COM DEREK REILLY FROM THE EV REVIEW IRELAND YOUTUBE CHANNEL RICHARD AT RSEV.CO.UK – FOR BUYING AND SELLING EVS IN THE UK EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM/

Show #784   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Wednesday 20th May 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   AUDI E-TRON S POSSIBLY SPIED TESTING AT THE NURBURGRING "A new spy video shot at the Nürburgring shows what may very well be the E-Tron electric SUV in the hotter specification.  While we can’t be entirely sure this is indeed the high-performance version, this would make the most sense since it’s too early for Audi’s Mercedes EQC-rival to start preparing for a mid-cycle update." says Quattrodaily: "Of course, the biggest change has occurred underneath the familiar skin where Audi has added a third electric motor. Mounted at the back, it helps the E-Tron S models hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in four and a half seconds."   2021 AUDI E-TRON GT SPIED AT PORSCHE'S DEVELOPMENT CENTRE "You won’t need a crystal ball to figure out what the swirly camouflage is hiding since the E-Tron GT production model will remain faithful to the concept before it. Audi will be making some changes for the road-going car as the prototypes have conventional door handles and larger side mirrors. The front fascia might eschew the concept’s intricate grille design for something less flashy, but that’s about it." says Motor1.com: "Technical specifications should be quite similar to those of the Taycan, but we’re expecting Ingolstadt’s electric sedan to be a tad cheaper and possibly start at under $100,000. It remains to be seen whether Audi will follow Porsche’s approach by prioritizing the high-end versions before coming out with the lesser models. An official premiere is scheduled to take place towards the end of the year ahead and customer deliveries should commence early 2021. It will compete not just with its sister model from Stuttgart, but also the next-generation Jaguar XJ and the first-ever Mercedes EQS, not to mention the Tesla Model S."   https://www.motor1.com/photo/4998524/2021-audi-e-tron-gt-spy-photo/   LIGHTYEAR INKS DEAL FOR PRODUCTION OF LONG-RANGE EV'S SOLAR ROOF "Dutch startup Lightyear has secured a supplier for its long-range electric car's solar roof. Royal DSM will partner with Lightyear to scale up production of the roof system. The two companies will also look into solar-roof applications for other cars, as well as vans and buses, Lightyear said in a press release" according to Green Car Reports: "The roof consists of 53 square feet of solar cells protected by double-curved safety glass. Royal DSM will supply a back sheet that moves electrical connections behind the cells, freeing up more space for capturing sunlight. This will also reduce electrical losses, leading to a 3% gain in power output over other designs, the company claims. Lightyear was founded by members of a winning World Solar Challenge team, with the goal of applying solar technology to production electric cars. The Lightyear One electric car is aiming for 450 miles of range on the European WLTP cycle (which tends to be more optimistic than the U.S. EPA testing cycle). While the car does have a battery pack, as well as aerodynamic bodywork, it is designed to rely heavily on the solar roof to achieve that range."   https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1128169_lightyear-inks-deal-for-production-of-long-range-ev-s-solar-roof   MUSK ANNOUNCES TESLA'S FULL SELF-DRIVING WILL COST $1000 MORE IN JULY "Tesla is raising the price of its "self-driving" option on its electric vehicles worldwide starting with a $1,000 (£820) hike. Founder Elon Musk tweeted that the price "will continue to rise" as its technology improves." according to BBC News: "The self-driving add-on will cost $8,000 when the price rise kicks in on 1 July."   Elon tweeted: ""The FSD price will continue to rise as the software gets closer to full self-driving capability with regulatory approval," Mr Musk said in a series of tweets on Monday. "[At] that point, the value of FSD is probably somewhere in excess of $100,000.""   https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-52703767   PAST PEAK OIL? INDUSTRY HIT BY WEAK DEMAND FINALLY FACES THREAT FROM ELECTRIC CARS "Oil companies may be facing uncertainty as the coronavirus pandemic triggers a collapse in demand for their products, but automakers are betting the crisis will help accelerate an electric future. With economies reeling from lockdowns to curb the virus, the sharpest plunge in oil prices in two decades has slashed the cost of filling up a tank of gas, eroding some of the incentive to make the switch to cleaner fuels."  writes Autoblog: "Looking ahead, cuts in capital spending forced upon energy companies as their revenues crumble could tighten supply enough to cause a spike in oil prices, making electric vehicles more attractive just as automakers ramp up production, analysts say. With fuel for road transport accounting for about half of all oil demand, the possibility of a faster-than-expected switch to EVs in the wake of the pandemic is one of the main reasons some forecasts for a peak have been brought forward. Global oil demand hit a record of just over 100 million barrels per day (bpd) in 2019."   https://www.autoblog.com/2020/05/19/peak-oil-demand-wanes-electric-vehicles-rise/   RENAULT-NISSAN-MITSUBISHI TO UNVEIL STRATEGIC PLAN "Automakers Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi may unveil next week a new strategic plan to boost synergies and repair their troubled alliance as the coronavirus pandemic lashes the industry." according to the Economic Times. While Automotive NEws thinks that Nissan could be slowly backing out of Europe: "Europe accounts for only about one-tenth of Nissan's global business by volume and has "little prospects for growth and profitability," as one insider put it. Under the new working relationship with Renault, Nissan would take the lead in Europe on crossovers and SUVs, which the sources said would be available in gasoline engine, hybrid and full-electric versions. It would operate as a "follower" in commercial vans and small city cars, using versions of vehicles produced by Renault. The arrangement would allow the two partners to share technologies and manufacturing capacity, while keeping advanced technology and product development separate from each other to "keep our design, engineering and brands distinctive from each other," one of the sources said. However, the company is keen to maintain a presence in the region, albeit a reduced one."   https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/nissans-survival-plan-europe-suvs-and-sharing-renault   NEW STANDARDS RELEASED FOR ELECTRIC CAR BATTERIES "China released mandatory safety regulations related to electric vehicles, batteries and electric buses on Tuesday, which analysts say will help improve the industry's manufacturing standards and relieve customer safety concerns." reports China Daily: "They emphasize the electrical safety and functional safety requirements and increase the requirements for thermal event alarm signaling in battery systems, which should provide drivers and passengers with adequate safety warnings. The standards also put higher requirements on battery safety, and emphasize an improvement in battery system tests covering thermal diffusion, external fire, mechanical shock, simulated collision and humidity cycling, external short circuit, and overheating. It specifies batteries must be able to withstand at least five minutes of overheating without causing a fire or explosion, allowing drivers and passengers sufficient time to get out of the vehicle."   https://global.chinadaily.com.cn/a/202005/18/WS5ec1e22aa310a8b241156558.html   UK’S FIRST CAR BATTERY ‘GIGAFACTORY’ TO BE BUILT BY TWO STARTUPS "Two British startups have announced plans to invest as much as £4bn in building the UK’s first large-scale battery factory, in a move that could prove a major boost to the country’s struggling car industry." writes The Guardian today: "AMTE Power and Britishvolt have signed a memorandum of understanding saying they will work together on plans for a plant to make lithium ion batteries.  Lars Carlstrom, the chief executive of Britishvolt, said the companies had an ambition to build facilities producing batteries with capacity of as much as 30 gigawatt hours (GWh) a year, which would be roughly equivalent to the joint Tesla-Panasonic Gigafactory in Nevada. A factory of that size would create as many as 4,000 jobs, he said. The government-backed Faraday Institution estimates 130 GWh of annual capacity will be required by 2040 if the UK is to retain a large automotive sector."   https://www.theguardian.com/business/2020/may/20/uk-first-car-battery-gigafactory-amte-power-britishvolt?CMP=share_btn_tw   XPENG'S P7 LIGHTS UP THE NIGHT WITH A SYNCHRONIZED MUSIC & LIGHT SHOW "Xpeng Motors has already begun taking orders for their highly anticipated long-range sports sedan, the P7. With customer deliveries set to begin in June, Xpeng is showing off a special feature that the P7 will have; a synchronized light and music show." writers TOm Moloughney for InsideEVs: "The P7 has a strip of LED lights that extend across the entire front of the vehicle. Using those LEDs, as well as the lower driving lights, the vehicle performs a virtual "dance", similar to the Tesla Model X's light show. Initially, when P7 deliveries begin next month, the vehicle will come with a couple of simple lighting modes. However, Xpeng is going to use OTA updates to add more complex songs and light shows for the owners to select from"   https://insideevs.com/news/423962/xpeng-p7-programmable-light-show/   QUESTION OF THE WEEK   Should Dyson have continued to make a £150,000 EV, or should we only make EVs realistic? Show #628   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Friday 1st November 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   SOLAR-POWERED LIGHTYEAR ONE CLAIMS TO BREAK NEW GROUND IN AERODYNAMICS "Dutch startup Lightyear also tried to make the car as aerodynamic as possible, further increasing efficiency.  Lightyear claims its creation is the most aerodynamic five-seat car to date." says Digital Trends: "Lightyear claims to have achieved a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.20. To put that in perspective, a Tesla Model S has a Cd of 0.23, while a Toyota Prius has a Cd of 0.24 — and those are two of the most aerodynamic conventional cars in production. Getting a lower Cd with four doors and five seats is a major achievement. The Volkswagen XL1 had a lower Cd of 0.19, but that car was a tiny two-seater, with the seats staggered to make the body as narrow as possible. VW ditched practicality in the name of efficiency. The car is driven by four electric motors — one for each wheel. Lightyear doesn’t quote horsepower, but claims the car will do zero to 62 mph in 10 seconds."   https://www.digitaltrends.com/cars/solar-powered-lightyear-one-claims-to-be-worlds-most-aerodynamic-five-seat-car/   VOLKSWAGEN R&D BOSS: HOW WE'LL IMPROVE THE ID 3 "Volkswagen's only recently revealed the production version of its ID 3 but as with any good engineer, VW R&D boss Frank Welsch is already thinking about ways to improve it." according to Rachael Burgess for Autocar: "“People need range,” Welsch said. Despite the top-end ID 3 offering 341 miles of range, Welsch believes people want more."   Quote: “We won’t do this by giving people a bigger battery because it’s more weight and more cost. It’s about battery density improving. It is not enough to change the drivetrain to electric. We have more room and it drives like a GTI right now. We need other USPs you don’t get in other cars. This first step is a good step but we’re going to make speech recognition more intelligent. We can also make much more use of the augmented reality head-up display in the ID 3. We are the first ones to have this, even in higher segment cars. We can improve it by software upgrades because the hardware is in the car. Now, we have a few situations where you can use it: navigation mode, lane keeping, showing snowflakes on the street if the temperature is below four degrees. We have to assess which situations are useful. We don’t want to do video games.”   https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/volkswagen-rd-boss-how-well-improve-id-3   POLESTAR 1 WON'T BE THE BRAND'S LAST HALO MODEL "Polestar opened a sprawling production facility in Chengdu, China this August for its 619-horsepower (462-kilowatt) plug-in hybrid halo car, the Polestar 1. Capped at just 500 units per year, and limited to a production run of three years, only 1,500 examples of the vehicle will roll out of the brand-new facility between now and 2023. But that impressive plant won't sit dormant for long." reports Motor1.com: "While production of the electric Polestar 2 – a mainstream, electric sedan – kicks off at Polestar's Luqia, China manufacturing plant in early 2020, Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath promises another range-topping vehicle in the future. It’s more than likely to come from the company's new Chengdu plant, and like all future Polestars, will be fully electric."   https://www.motor1.com/news/379487/polestar-planning-second-halo-model/   CITROËN LAUNCHES AN ELECTRIC OFFENSIVE ON ITS LCV RANGE LCV plans to extend its electric offering for business customers with a range of 100% electric compact vans by 2021. This range will be suited to professionals since it offers an outstanding level of comfort, controlled cost of use, the freedom to drive in town centres, the ability to make “last mile” deliveries and keep up with the development of e-commerce business. Within two years the Brand will offer the Groupe PSA’s best know-how in terms of a 100% electric offering, by providing a 100% electric version of Jumpy (launch in 2020) and a 100% electric version of New Berlingo Van (by 2021). This electrification will concern the light commercial vehicles but also the passenger vehicles.   https://int-media.citroen.com/en/citro%C3%ABn-launches-electric-offensive-its-lcv-range   TESLA INCREASES RANGE AND PRICE OF THE MODEL 3 LONG RANGE "On top of the software update for the now discontinued Model 3 Long Range RWD, Tesla has now updated its online configurator to list the Model 3 Long Range all-wheel-drive range at 322 miles" writes Fred at Electrek: "The automaker has also increased the price of the model from $47,990 to $48,490. Tesla also recently increased the range of the Model S and Model X with the new Raven powertrain."   https://electrek.co/2019/11/01/tesla-model-3-long-range-increases-range-price/   MG ELECTRIC SUV VIDEO REVIEW: VERY SOLID, QUIRKY "The WLTP range is 263 kilometers, which is about 160 miles. In the UK, the price is £21,995 with the plug-in grant incentive. Weighing about 3,300 pounds (1,496 kg) empty, this affordable small SUV can seat five. If acceleration is important to you, the 0 to 62 mph time is 8.5 seconds. The top speed is 87 mph (140 km/h), which is on the slow side, but drivers of such a vehicle won’t be Grand Prix racing, so it probably doesn’t matter." says CleanTechnica: "the factory where this vehicle is made is capable of producing several hundred thousand electric vehicles a year. So, if you want this model, you shouldn’t have to wait, unlike some competing EVs. Another feature is the large trunk and a compartment underneath it for the charging equipment. The back seat also has ample room, according to the reviewer."   https://cleantechnica.com/2019/10/31/mg-electric-suv-video-review-very-solid-quirky/   TESLA GLOBAL VP SURPRISES WITH GIGAFACTORY 3’S INITIAL MODEL 3 PRODUCTION TARGET "Tesla Gigafactory 3 is just waiting for its final permits before Model 3 production could begin in the complex’s Phase 1 area. As the wait for the site’s certifications continues, Tesla Global VP Grace Tao shared an incredibly optimistic target for the facility’s production activities. If the Tesla executive’s statements prove true, there is a good chance Gigafactory 3 could end up serving as the electric car maker’s dark horse this Q4 2019. " as per Simon Alvarez at Teslarati: " Tao stated that Gigafactory 3 is aiming to start its production activities at a rate of 3,000 Model 3 per week. That’s around 12,000 vehicles per month provided that the company does not encounter hiccups in its operations. This is notably ambitious, particularly as previous Wall Street listed Gigafactory 3 with an estimated production rate of 1.1k Model 3 per week in 2021. "   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-3-production-gigafactory-3-3k-per-week   QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week…   Set by listener Martin Young: “What were some of your biggest surprises about living with a BEV?”   I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 255 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future. In response to anti-government protests the Iraq government shut down the internet six days ago. Coverage returned briefly before the president was due to give a televised address on Sunday allowing social media reports of violence at the demonstrations to be posted. Currently 75% of Iraq is covered by the ban. Kurdistan is unaffected. Mismatch There’s no such thing as normal—so why are we all made to use devices, live in cities or travel in vehicles that are so uniform? Whether it’s a computer accessory that only works for right-handed people or airline seats that are unusable for taller people, we need more inclusive design. We discuss Kat Holmes’ new book Mismatch: How Inclusion Shapes Design. Beatie at the Barbican Singer-songwriter and innovator Beatie Wolfe is showing a “teaser” of her new work at London’s Barbican gallery alongside the launch of a film about her. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   LIGHTYEAR ONE SOLAR-CHARGING EV MAKES UK DEBUT "Dutch start-up Lightyear has shown off a prototype of its One long-range solar car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed." reports Autocar: "The One is a lightweight, four-wheel drive, coupé-style four-door, which Lightyear says will offer a range of around 450 miles on the WLTP combined cycle from a solar-electric hybrid powertrain. The static prototype was first revealed in June, and makes its public debut at the Sussex event. Lightyear claims the One is able to achieve this segment-leading range even with a much smaller battery than that found in equivalent BEVs, because it consumes much less energy than conventional electric cars.  Each wheel is independently driven, minimising loss of energy throughout the drivetrain, while the use of ultra-light materials for its body construction reduces strain on the battery’s output."   https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motor-shows-goodwood-festival-speed/lightyear-one-solar-charging-ev-makes-uk-debut   HONDA E SILENTLY CLIMBS THE GOODWOOD HILL LOOKING ADORABLE "Honda E is a small electric vehicle created primarily for city use. With a range of around 124 miles (200 km) from its 35.5-kWh battery, this isn’t the EV to buy if you plan on taking extended trips while suffering from range anxiety." according to Motor1.com: "The Honda E wasn’t going particularly fast while climbing the famous hill, but it’s understandable considering it wasn’t a production-ready car. Bear in mind the final product won’t come cheap, with the rumor mill indicating it will cost somewhere in the region of €40,000 in Europe. That’s a lot of money to pay for such a small car that looks like a futuristic first-gen Civic, but it certainly does have its particular charm to woo customers. When can we expect to see the road-going E? Honda has said it will unveil it before the year’s end, so it might debut in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show."   https://www.motor1.com/news/358198/honda-e-goodwood-fos-video/   VOLKSWAGEN TYPE 20 EV MICROBUS CONCEPT "Built to celebrate 20 years of VW's presence and technology in Silicon Valley, this electric VW Bus is a showcase for tech and packs a lot more horsepower than the original Type 2." says Car & Driver: "The Volkswagen Type 20 Microbus concept looks a whole lot like the classic 1962 Type 2 11-window bus on which it's based. Featuring a fully electric drivetrain, the Type 20 concept utilizes a single electric motor rated at 120 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. It's the product of VW's newly renamed Innovation and Engineering Center California (IECC), which is now the maker's largest vehicle research facility outside Germany. This is not, of course, the first electric VW Bus—the I.D. Buzz concept from 2018 comes to mind—but it looks a lot more like the 1962 model than that futuristic-looking concept did."   https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a28280966/volkswagen-type-20-ev-microbus-concept/   TESLA MODEL 4 EURO NCAP SAFETY RATING "Tesla  has extended its 5-star safety rating streak to Europe. In a new round of testing, the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) awarded the Model 3 its highest rating of five stars. You can watch a video of Euro NCAP’s crash test below. As fun as it is to watch a Tesla Model 3 (or any vehicle) get pummeled in crash tests, understanding what helped push the company’s safety rating so high is far more interesting." reports TechCrunch today: "this assessment focused on the car’s active safety features such as automatic emergency braking system (AEB) or one that prevents drivers from unintentionally drifting into another lane. The Tesla Model 3 earned the highest safety assist score ever awarded by Euro NCAP under its newer 2018-2019 testing protocols."   https://techcrunch.com/2019/07/04/watch-how-tesla-model-3-earned-its-5-star-safety-rating-from-euro-ncap/   MOTOE FINALLY SET FOR ELECTRIC DEBUT The inaugural weekend of MotoE™ is finally here as the new class take on the Sachsenring. the time has finally come for the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup to go racing. Preseason testing went well, including an E-Pole and race simulation in Valencia, and the grid of 18 riders are more than raring to race. The Sachsenring hosts the history-making weekend; a tight and twisty track that should be a stunning venue for MotoE™’s debut – with the machines having shown some impressive corner speed in testing.   RARE SIGHT: POLESTAR 2 AT FASTNED CHARGING STATION "A Tesla Model 3 driver was lucky enough to come across two rare sights: first, Polestar 2 prototypes at a Fastned charging station. Then, a Porsche Taycan at another charging station." says InsideEVs: "Since the all-electric Porsche gets plenty of coverage, let's focus on the new Polestar 2, which will be available in 2020. The two black prototypes were out on road tests/charging tests and we must admit that they look amazing. These cars are very attractive, much like the Jaguar I-PACE. Perhaps this will have a positive impact on future sales."   Polestar 2 specs:   78 kWh battery (324 pouch cells, 27 modules, liquid-cooled) target 500 km (311 miles) of WLTP range expected 275 miles (442 km) of EPA range 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.7 seconds   https://insideevs.com/news/358032/video-polestar-2-fastned-charging-station/   RENAULT UK UNVEILS NEW ‘ELECTRIFY JULY’ OFFERS Renault has unveiled its exciting ‘Electrify July’ sales event, which sees its entire range of electric vehicles available with an additional manufacturer contribution of up to £1,000. The ‘Electrify July’ offers are designed to make switching from traditionally-engined vehicles to EVs even more attractive, allowing motorists and businesses to reduce both their environmental footprint and driving costs.   Leading the ‘Electrify July’ charge is the Renault ZOE, which through the offer is now available with an additional £1,000 contribution. Including the offer, the Dynamique Nav model is available from £17,420 and the S Edition version from £18,270 – making the ZOE the most affordable new four-seater EV in the UK.     COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. Show #510   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Wednesday 26th June 2019. A review from Victor Wood: "I have been listening to EV News Daily since about episode 180 and it has become part of my daily listening routine. Always informative. Always up to date what more can you want?"   And from Rob Hermans: "I’ve been listening to Martin Lee’s excellent podcast for a few months and it’s by far the best way to keep in touch with all of the most recent developments in EV land. Martin’s easy, entertaining style makes it a highlight of every day. Highly recommended."   Jan Krok: "Love the podcasts. What a wonderful way to start your EV commute"   200 MILE+ EVS Following the news yesterday of the Lightyear One targeting 450 miles from their solar powered car, I thought it might be timely to look at the range of EV's which can do over 200 miles. Because surely that's the sweet spot in 2019? These are WLTP Range by the way, and a couple of honourable mentions at the end. Not all of these are on sale yet. The company’s previous best for quarterly deliveries was 90,700 vehicles in the last three months of 2018."   Elon Musk: "There is a lot of speculation regarding our vehicle deliveries this quarter, he reality is that we are on track to set an all-time record, but it will be very close. However, if we go all out, we can definitely do it! We already have enough vehicle orders to set a record, but the right cars are not yet all in the right locations. Logistics and final delivery are extremely important, as well as finding demand for vehicle variants that are available locally, but can’t reach people who ordered that variant before the end of the quarter.”   Sources say there are 12,000 undelivered orders. I've also seen on Reddit someone saying they were called by a Tesla rep to take a different spec than the Model 3 they'd ordered.   https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-06-26/tesla-has-enough-orders-to-set-delivery-record-elon-musk-says   HYUNDAI MOTOR TO BUILD A PURE ELECTRIC SUV PROTOTYPE THIS OCTOBER "Hyundai Motor has begun to produce a prototype of its first compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), a platform being built exclusively for electric vehicles." reports Korea Times. Remember the Kona is an ICE platform: "Hyundai Motor has requested several auto parts companies to supply parts necessary for a prototype of its first electric car model NE (project name), sources in the automobile industry said on June 23. Hyundai plans to complete the prototype by December. The prototype is a pre-production test vehicle before mass production. Carmakers usually make 50 to 200 prototypes prior to beginning mass production of a model. As of April 2019, there was 9,200 CHAdeMO in Europe (up by close to 50% or 3,000 from year earlier). The progress in Japan, where CHAdeMO was developed, is much slower and number of chargers stands at 7,600. North America lived to see 3,200 CHAdeMO chargers, which is close to 40% more than a year ago, however, it's hard to say how Nissan/Mitsubishi will cope, being the only major forces behind CHAdeMO now."   https://insideevs.com/news/356385/25000-chademo-chargers-globally-9000-europe/   HYUNDAI KONA SMOKES FRONT TYRES "Performance Drive demonstrated how the Kona Electric can smoke its front tires with ease, and by the same token, the subcompact crossover can accelerate to 60 km/h in 3.53 seconds. From zero to 100, the traction control helps the Hyundai hit that velocity in 6.86 seconds." writes AutoEvolution: "in the United States, the Kona Electric comes standard with the larger of the two options, translating to 258 miles according to the Environmental Protection Agency. The SEL trim level retails at $36,950 while the Limited and Ultimate soar to $41,400 and $44,900 excluding destination. This being the U.S., the federal government offers a plug-in grant of up to $7,500, bringing the price down to $29,450 after the tax credit."   https://www.autoevolution.com/news/heres-the-hyundai-kona-electric-burning-rubber-during-acceleration-test-135410.html#   BYD ADDS BUS MANUFACTURING CAPACITY IN NORTH AMERICA WITH NEW CANADIAN PLANT "BYD is taking another step into the lucrative North American bus market with the announcement of a new bus plant in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. The new 45,000-square-foot facility represents another step forward into the electrified future of North America." reports Clean Technica "BYD’s new plant in Newmarket, Ontario and gives BYD additional bus production capacity close to the  high-density east coast of the US in addition to opening up new partnerships in Canada. The new plant already has its first marching orders, with an order for 10 fully electric BYD buses for the largest transit operator in Canada, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). The TTC also has an option to add another 30 BYD buses beyond the initial order."   https://cleantechnica.com/2019/06/25/byd-adds-bus-manufacturing-capacity-in-north-america-with-new-canada-plant/   SIEMENS SELLS ELECTRIC AIRCRAFT PROPULSION BUSINESS TO ROLLS-ROYCE "Siemens is set to sell its eAircraft unit to Rolls-Royce – the companies expect the move to take place in late 2019." says ChargedEVs: "Siemens eAircraft develops electric and hybrid-electric propulsion systems for the aerospace industry. At locations in Munich and Erlangen in Germany as well as Budapest, Hungary, it cooperates with partners such as Airbus to create prototypes for propulsion systems like Airbus’s CityAirbus"   https://chargedevs.com/newswire/siemens-sells-electric-aircraft-propulsion-business-to-rolls-royce/   SPARK PARTNERS WITH BP TO PROVE PIONEERING UK ELECTRIC VEHICLE TECHNOLOGY "Spark EV Technology today announced a successful collaboration with BP that provided real-world trials which validated its advanced range prediction system for electric vehicles (EVs)." in a story from Automotive NEws last week: "EVs today are poor at estimating how far their battery will take them, and in real world tests can significantly underestimate or overestimate the energy needed for a journey. Urban driving can be 2 or 3 times as efficient as motorway driving, and yet the vehicle uses the most recent driving efficiency as a guide to the remaining range. This means vehicles can significantly over or underestimate range when cars changes from urban to motorway driving, or vice-versa. During Spark’s trial with BP it was observed that one car could have driven 45 miles more than its displayed range, and on another journey an extra 21 miles more range had to be used to complete the journey than the car predicted. In comparison, Spark intelligent range prediction uses data on where the car is going, not where it has been, and for the same journeys predicted the range to an accuracy of just 3.8 miles and 0.4 miles respectively. "   https://www.automotiveworld.com/news-releases/spark-partners-with-bp-to-prove-pioneering-uk-electric-vehicle-technology   HOW DID THE TESLA MODEL 3 BECOME THE WORLD'S SAFEST CAR? "As most Tesla fans already know, Tesla’s vehicles are just about the safest on the road. Model 3 is the safest car ever tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which judged Tesla’s newest car to have the lowest probability of injury in a collision of any of the over 900 cars it has tested. In second place is Model S, and in third - you guessed it - Model X." writes EVANNEX for InsideEVs: " Tesla’s vehicles have glass roofs, which you might think are less safe than the metal kind, but in fact the opposite is the case. The roof panels on the Model 3 are made like a windshield - two layers of hardened glass laminated with thermoplastic - and are much stiffer than any thin sheet-metal roof.  Thanks to Tesla’s connectivity features, the company has detailed data on all accidents that happen to its cars. Teslas on Autopilot average one accident per 2.7 million miles driven, whereas the average for all passenger vehicles in the US is one accident for every 436,000 miles."   https://insideevs.com/news/356489/tesla-model-3-safety/   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. Show #509   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 25th June 2019. BMW VOWS TO REV UP ELECTRIC CAR ROLLOUT "German high-end carmaker BMW said Tuesday it would accelerate its plans to build new electric models, as the whole industry comes under pressure to meet strict emissions regulations.: said Yahoo News today: "The Munich-based manufacturer will offer 25 electrified vehicles in 2023, "two years earlier than originally planned," chief executive Harald Krueger said in a statement. Of those, more than half will be all-electric while the remainder will be hybrids, BMW said."   Meanwhile Motor1.com says: "It’s a big day at BMW. Today the company is hosting the NextGen Conference at its headquarters in Germany. There, the Vision M Next concept (which could make it to production), 5 Series experimental electric vehicle, and E-Box electric motorcycle debuted. But there's still more news coming out of Munich. BMW Chief of Engineering, Klaus Frohlich, in a roundtable interview with journalists, including Senior Editor Jeff Perez, says BMW's M division is betting big on battery power. The company will introduce plug-in hybrid M performance vehicles in the near future."   "The BMW M Next concept is unquestionably the highlight of the company's big "Next" conference. It looks like a modern M1 and has a 600 horsepower plug-in hybrid powertrain, so how could it not? Yet BMW also revealed something with an even more powerful and potentially more interesting powertrain, and it was wrapped up in a current BMW 5 Series body." writes Autoblog: "There are a couple other interesting tidbits about Project BEV, such as the fact that BMW got everything packaged into the 5 Series without taking up passenger space. That's seriously impressive that BMW could get three motors and their accompanying batteries, cooling equipment and more stuffed into a production car that was never designed for it in the first place."   And finally via Automotive News Europe: This year, the automaker will start production of the electric Mini at its plant in Oxford, England. This will be followed in 2020 by the electric BMW iX3 midsize SUV, to be built in Shenyang, China, for global markets. Following in 2021 will be the iNEXT crossover, which will be made in Dingolfing, Germany, and the i4 midsize sedan, set to be assembled in Munich. BMW currently offers plug-in hybrid versions of the 3- and 7-series sedans and X3 and X5 crossovers. This summer, the company will release plug-in hybrid versions of the 5 series and 2-series Active Tourer with next-generation technology and a longer electric range. These will be followed next year by the X1 and 3-series Touring plug-in hybrids."   https://news.yahoo.com/bmw-vows-rev-electric-car-rollout-083048012.html   https://www.autoblog.com/2019/06/25/bmw-5-series-711-horsepower-electric-monster/   https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/bmw-plug-hybrids-automatically-switch-ev-mode-2020   THE LIGHTYEAR ONE IS A SOLAR-POWERED CAR WITH AN EYE-WATERING PRICE "Dutch clean mobility company Lightyear today debuted its long-range prototype, the Lightyear One, with a range of 725 km (450 miles) and a small battery that can be charged directly via sunlight, or from conventional charging stations." reports Engadget: "The idea is that you could take the car on long roadtrips because it isn't dependent on charging infrastructure the way that traditional electric vehicles like Teslas are. The solar panels add an additional charge of up to 12 km/hour (7.5 miles/hour)."   "The reservation fee for one of the first 500 cars is a hefty €119,000, equivalent to $135,000, and delivery isn't expected until 2021. This makes the Lightyear more of a purchasable concept than a production vehicle. But if you've got a spare few hundred thousand dollars lying around and you want to help Lightyear publicly test their first production car, now you have another option for environmentally friendly transport."   the Verge says: "It will support up to 60kW of fast charging, giving it 507 km of range per hour of charge. The car has a total of four electric motors, which will allow it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmh in 10 seconds. Lightyear was founded by a group of former University of Eindhoven students who won the World Solar Challenge race with their “Stella” solar cars."   Lightyear Says: "“Unlike conventional solar panels, our cells function independently. This means that even if part of the roof or hood is in shadow, the other cells continue to efficiently collect solar energy. In fact, our solar cells provide about 20% more energy than traditional ones.”   https://www.engadget.com/2019/06/25/solar-powered-car-lightyear-one/   https://newdawn.lightyear.one/   TESLA TO OFFER COLLISION REPAIR AT SERVICE CENTERS AND THROUGH MOBILE SERVICE "Tesla’s Mobile Service and Service Centers are now performing on-site and in-house collision repairs to include paint scuffs, scratches, minor dents, and bolt-on replacements such as bumpers, fenders, doors, and side mirrors. Moving to expand repairs done directly by Tesla ensures quality work, quick service, and transparent pricing for owners of its all-electric vehicles." according to Teslarati: "These latest options can be scheduled using the Tesla app via the “Collision Repair” option under the Service menu."   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-collision-repair-bodyshop-mobile-service-centers/   THE NEW LOTUS ELECTRIC HYPERCAR COULD BE CALLED 'EVIJA' "When Lotus first unveiled its plans for an all-new, all-electric hypercar back in April, code named Type 130, a good number of you balked at the name. Don’t expect that to stick around, though. The car will almost certainly bear a name-name, and it could very well be the Lotus Evija." says Jalopnik: "The Lotus Evija makes sense, too, as all of Lotus’s cars have begun with the letter “E” since 1956, according to Auto Express. Examples include the Esprit, Evora, Elise, Exige and Elan. "   https://jalopnik.com/the-new-lotus-electric-hypercar-could-be-called-evija-1835834459   2019 NISSAN LEAF E+ PRICED FROM £35,895 IN THE UK Prices for the new range-topping Nissan LEAF e+ Tekna start from £35,895, including the £3,500 Government Grant. With the Nissan LEAF e+, the newly-developed 62kWh battery pack offers 55% more capacity and approximately 25% improvement in energy density while retaining a similar shape and size to the 40kWh LEAF battery pack. This has given the LEAF e+ a significantly increased driving range of up to 239 miles (WLTP combined mode) on a single battery charge. Nissan PR says: "Fine-tuned since the launch of the original LEAF in 2011, an internal thermal management system is also installed in every LEAF, ensuring that fast charging performance is optimised for specific driving conditions. The system also ensures that the quality and longevity of the battery is maximised, giving customers peace of mind and high levels of performance"     COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. Martijn Lammers is one of the founders of Lightyear, he is currently responsible for strategy. After having won the World Solar Challenge with a team of students, and gradating his masters in industrial design from Eindhoven University of Technology, he founded Lightyear with a team of 5 aiming to accelerate the adoption of electric cars. More specifically, Lightyears mission is to provide clean mobility for everyone. Their first car, Lightyear One, is an ultra-efficient car with solar cells integrated in the hood and roof of the car. Due to its efficiency, Lightyear One is partly self-sufficient, and can be charged by normal outlet at any other time ensuring it can independent of charging infrastructure. Lightyear One is in an exclusive segment costing €119.000 before taxes, enabling Lightyear to deliver a truly ground breaking product and developing the necessary technology to match Lightyear is working with a team of 130 people based in Helmond, the Netherlands combining young and experienced A-players to form a strong team capable of achieving Lightyear's mission. Lightyear is currently in the process of building its first full prototype, to be completed in the second half of this year. The launch of this prototype will also be Lightyears launch to the public. Since the inception of Lightyear, there has also been a focus on the commercial validation of the concept as well resulting in over 80 Lightyear One's to be reserved and paid for. This group of ambassadors forms a strong backbone of Lightyears success so far. Naast auto's met stekkers en auto's met benzinetanks zullen we vanaf 2020 ook auto's met zonnecellen op straat zien. We hebben er in Nederland namelijk een nieuw automerk bij: Lightyear.
