Sydney punk reprobates FANGZ are in the thick of things of late. They just recently finished a massive national run as support to Cancer Bats, and have been busying themselves with releasing new music and generally making life a party wherever they go.True Aussie legends in their own right, FANGZ are a fresh band with an old-school mentality. They play hard and party harder without pause for reflection or decision. That hypothesis will be put to the test this weekend when FANGZ set out to do the almost impossible.A 24-hour East Coast tour.Let that sink in. FANGZ are planning a WHOLE East Coast tour in the same amount of time it allegedly takes the sun to do a lap of the Earth. Starting at the Cherry Bar in Melbourne as Friday night rolls into Saturday morning - so August 31 - the boys then travel to Sydney for a show at Bootleggers precisely 12 hours later and finish up at Greaser in Brisbane before the clock strikes midnight, thus completing an East Coast tour in 24 hours. It sounds too much of an effort to even think about, let alone attempt to pull off, so HEAVY tracked down frontman Joshua Cottreau to see how serious this whole thing is."What do you think?" Cottreau fires back at me when I ask if it is even possible. "It doesn't make sense to NOT try and do that," he laughed. "You know us by now. I'd put more in if I could. I don't think it's that unreasonable. The only thing, obviously, is flights because we're on a tight schedule. As long as everything goes according to plan, it should be sweet. We're really stoked. I think it's a pretty insane idea, but I don't really know anyone else who's done it (laughs). You've gotta go for it, right?"In the full interview, Joshua talks more about the 24 hour East Coast tour, the new track Same Old Story and its nostalgic video, their style of music and why it is so infectious, gives us the scoop on a new - debut - album, their musical growth over the course of three EP's, the upcoming Froth & Fury festival and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Interview by Kris PetersAfter an absence of five years, Canadian hardcore punk outfit Cancer Bats are finally returning to our shores next month for an eight-date run of shows in a belated celebration of the band's most recent 2022 album Psychic Jailbreak. That album marked a changing of the guard for Cancer Bats, with founding guitarist Scott Middleton leaving before the album was recorded, forcing the remaining three members into an uncomfortable writing and recording process that ultimately brought out the best in each of them. The album was a resounding success but is yet to be performed live in this country, a blight that shall be rectified in just over three weeks, with frontman Liam Cormier making no effort to hide his enthusiasm when he spoke with HEAVY only hours ago."I'm still on this tour," he replied when asked if he was packed and ready for Australia yet, "so I have a bag of dirty laundry (laughs). I'm ready to go. I'll just put this in the wash, then repack my bags. I feel like this last bunch of touring we've been really busy, so it's almost like having a bag packed and ready to rip. That's how I've been living (laughs)."We ask Liam what has changed with Cancer Bats since their last visit down under."Last time we played, we had Wade MacNeil from Alexisonfire playing guitar with us," he offered. "Since then, we've had a couple of other folks on guitar duties, but now our homie Jackson (Landry) is gonna be shredding for both the Cancer Bats and Bat Sabbath shows. Australia will get to meet our new favourite… he calls us his Uncles because he's younger. He's like a 27-year-old little ripper."In the full interview, Liam talks more about Jackson and how he has slotted into the band, the response to Psychic Jailbreak from fans, the internal pressures the band put on themselves to improve on each album, keeping things fresh after seven albums and counting, taking Fangz as national support and the part Cancer Bats played in getting the band together, having local bands open in each city, the two Bat Sabbath shows and what to expect, what craziness Cancer Bats plan to bring and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Coming At You Hard With THE RENTAGADES

One of the beautiful things about the Australian music scene being so tight is that members of bands invariably come together and, in special occasions, form a united new group with which to promote their music. One perfect recent example of this is new Sydney hard rock outfit The Rentagades, who are made up of members from established and recognizable bands Black Rheno and Mountain Wizard Death Cult. When the stars align as such, often pure musical magic is created, as exemplified with The Rentagades and their recent single Shape You Like A Bullet.Band founder and vocalist Scotty joined HEAVY to talk about the new single and being the new kids on the block."It's been a little bit in the making with COVID going on,” he began, “but about 11 months ago I went to one of my besties who owns a studio - David Bleus - and said I wanna put something together that's a bit of a throwback to the 90s high energy rock and roll. I just hadn't heard it in ages. He said let's do it, so we jumped in the studio and started coming up with some riffs and that's where it all started at the end of last year, just me and Dave in his studio, Studio Bleus. Just knocking out riffs and putting some beats together and then I met our drummer Doug Martin at a Fangz gig, of all places (laughs). I was seated with him, because around COVID everything was seated at gigs, so I got placed next to him and it was sort of meant to be. I was talking to him, and he was telling me how he was in a band called Black Rheno - which are a pretty prominent heavy metal band here in Australia - and he said he had just finished up with them, so I said we're looking for a drummer and he was all for it. We got to talking and sent some clips back and forward to each other and he was all aboard. It's sort of a conglomeration where we knew this guy already who is a mate of ours in a band called Mountain Wizard Death Cult and they record here at Studio Bleus so we knew the boys and I went to Tony, who is a kick ass bass player, and that's why I called the band The Rentagades, because..."To find out why listen to the full interview where Scotty also talks more about the debut single Shape You Like A Bullet, why they chose that song to introduce their music to the world, bringing back 90s rock, their next single Monsters, an upcoming EP, touring plans and more.

Being a concert booker and promotor is wrought with danger in the modern age, with many electing to hold off until things are a little more certain. Not so with the team at Hysteria who have already announced Halloween Hysteria, set to rock Brisbane's Mansfield Tavern on October 23. With a stellar line up including headliners Mammal, King Parrot and Spiderbait, plus a host of this countries finest talent, Halloween Hysteria will be the first major, large scale festival to go ahead in Australia since the events of the last 18 months have taken their stranglehold on the music industry at large. Ezekiel Ox, frontman for headlining act Mammal, took some time out recently to chat with HEAVY about Halloween Hysteria and happenings in the Mammal camp. We start by talking about the diversity of the line-up, which covers everything from rock to punk to metal and everything in between. "I'm not a promoter, so I can only comment from the perspective of a performer," he replied, "but it is a fantastic thing to be a part of the line-up. It's an amazing thing. We've done shows with Spiderbait before, and they always pull but when you can get those up and coming bands, and bands that are more established down the list, From Crisis To Collapse, Fangz, there's some really good bands there. It just gives people a reason to come out, doesn't it?" Already this year Mammal have been forced to alter planned shows on the run due to circumstances beyond their control, and although the current climate in this country sees music almost at a standstill, Ox is confident that Mammal will be able to take their place among the line-up come October. While punters have been disappointed all-too-often with postponements of shows, seldom do we stop to think how the bands and artists feel. "It's… I'm pretty adaptable," Ox measured. "I think one of the advantages humans have is that we're adaptable as a species. If you look at our history we are the species that adapts the best - emotionally, mentally, physically - we have this diverse range of ways to express ourselves. I try not to take it personally, I try not to take it individually, you can't take it personally. I see it more that I'm very disappointed for the punters. That's really what it's all about and anyone that's seen Mammal perform will now we give it all up for the punters, and it's all about them. I really feel for the concert goers. Obviously the music industry has been gutted, but it's the same for security guards, bar staff, restaurant owners, it's all housed under that hospitality blanket and music's a part of that. You go to a venue and have a meal and watch a band, it's all part of it, so I think we were the first to go and apparently now we're gonna be the last to come back. We just have to roll with it and hope that… we're a year and a half into a pandemic and history will tell us we will get through it, and you've just gotta go with it. Were all in the same boat, and it's hurt everything. It's not ideal. I don't know what to say, besides we're doing our best to keep the rock and roll going by going into the studio in Melbourne when we can and making music and to have the show up and running at the same level it always has been. It's definitely challenging, but I try to look at things very much as glass three quarters full. The band's all healthy, our families are healthy and that's a good thing. We're just trying to stay focussed on new music and keeping the show at a level and being ready when the time comes, which hopefully will be October." In the full interview, Ezekiel reveals plans for recent postponed Mammal shows, introduces us to new bass player Kade Turner, talks new music, tells us about new merchandise, plans for the rest of this year and more.

And last but not least verbeißen wir unsere Fangzähne dann endlich in Stevens Hausaufgabe und diskutieren noch einmal hingerissen über THE LOST BOYS.

❤ More info: Artwork ✨ @finnsn More info : ✨FrauPfau SC: https://soundcloud.com/pfaukarma ✨KataHaifisch SC: @katahaifisch

Fangz is one of the most prolific rappers to walk the streets of Jos. On February 16th 2017, we hooked up with Fangz's crew Very fly Nation. It was a cold harmttan night and we chilled out sipping on some Gin and Bullet. We talked about his Mixtape 'A Rapper Prepares' #ARP. We also discussed a range of subjects, from coming up in #Jtown, to his time spent living in Lagos, difficulties in producing a full length mixtape and much more. We had a lot of fun in the Studio. In the end, we understood that Fangz is an articulate young man, motivated to take his music to an international market. Most of all, he is a songwriter (poet) of the highest esteem. All the best Brother..

It's Communitoid Episode 012 - The Legend of the Scion of the House of Kerfluffer! This week Jo shockingly plays a game that isn't Mass Effect (don't worry, she's also playing through Mass Effect again), Aaron learns not to drink an entire fishbowl margarita before the show, and guest host JohnnyViral explains how he became known as the angriest man in gaming and reveals his current obsession with cream soda. We also discuss setting Necros on fire, the Star Wars and the Star Treks, we name an indie game that someone should make for us, and decide that dating sims are awesome when they're made by insane people. Plus usedtabe hosts the first edition of our new Tales of Werewolf feature with a rundown of the "Evil Dead" game! Keep listening after the closing song for our reactions to Cutie Honey's cblog and ramblings about Transformers. Hope you enjoy!
