Ben Errington is joined by I Am Monsters star Nicholas Vince to discuss the film which had its world premiere at FrightFest last month!Actor/director Nicholas Vince is one of the UK's shining beacons in the queer horror scene. Most well-known for his debut role as the Chatterer in Clive Barker's Hellraiser, and Kinski (Moon Face) in the cult shocker Nightbreed. Both a resoundingly nostalgic and relatable tale of growing up in love with horror, and an essential discourse on the turmoil of 'growing up gay' under draconian Thatcherian rule where the closet was always safest, ‘I Am Monsters' is the documentary adaptation of the autobiographical one-man- stage show.FrightFest - https://www.frightfest.co.uk/https://frightfest2023.eventive.org/schedule/64b58db2ac7a9000403abcb2https://twitter.com/nicholas_vincePodcast - https://podlink.to/horrorhangoutPatreon - https://www.patreon.com/horrorhangoutFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/horrorhangoutpodcastTwitter - https://twitter.com/horror_hangout_TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@horrorhangoutpodcastInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/horrorhangoutpodcast/Website - http://www.hawkandcleaver.comBen - https://twitter.com/ben_erringtonAudio credit - Taj Eastonhttp://tajeaston.comSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/thehorrorhangout. Uhuu! Welcome back to another episode of ClassHorrorCast, I'm your host Aran and on this week's show, I'm joined by Mr.Nicholas Vince. From a young age Nicholas always enjoyed performing in front of an audience, as the years went on and after striking a relationship with one of the masters of horror Clive Barker, Nicholas landed the role of Chatterer in Hellraiser (1987) & Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988) shortly followed by a fantastic role in Nightbreed (1990). Upon having success, Nicholas soon after realised that he wanted to step away from the film industry and began to write comics for companies like Marvel. He seemingly stepped away again only to return in 2012 - since then he has written and directed 4 short films, published a collection of short stories, and penned his Hellraiser story 'Prayers for Desire' which was published within Hellraiser Anthology Volume 2, detailing the origin story of 'Chatterer'.Nicholas also hosts his successful podcast 'The Chattering Hour', which has had incredible guests from Tom Savini, Bill Moseley & Tom Holland to Lin Shaye & Malcolm McDowell.Follow Nicholas here - WEBSITE - https://nicholasvince.com/ INSTAGRAM -https://www.instagram.com/nicholasjvince/?hl=enFollow me here - https://linktr.ee/FirstClassHorrorIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate/review it as it helps the show greatly!

We have chosen this movie... And he has come. It's time to get our souls torn apart as we dive into Hellraiser, released September 18th in 1987. It's the horror film that spawned the classic franchise and gave birth to the iconic Pinhead, even though the original creator really wishes people would stop calling him that. We celebrated our 300th episode in style, with as many past guests and listeners as we could cram in. It was great fun and the full list of guests appears below. As I write this, our heads are still spinning from this amazing episode! In addition to all the other past guests, first-timer Doug Bradley joined us, and Clive surprised us by participating via phone and dropping some updates about his upcoming projects (listen to find out!!!) (Thanks, Simon!). Plus, see who won our Clive Barker trivia contest in the second half! We started with Uberfangirl Lori from Simon Bamford Fans, Gary Smart (Dark Ditties, Leviathan) Barbie, Nicholas Vince, and Simon— then more and more guests kept joining and the conversation kept getting larger! List of Guests ended up featuring: Doug Bradley, Simon Bamford, Paul Kane, Nicholas Vince, Peter Atkins, Barbie Wilde, Dr. Sorcha Ni Fhlainn, Christine McCorkindale, Clive Barker, Hugh Ross, Gary Smart, Joe and Catalina from Little Spark Films, End and Nina Martinez, Eric Gross (Followers of the Pandorics) as well as many of our listeners! This week I interviewed an actor who portrayed a horror movie character that gave me nightmares as a kid. That character is the "Chatterer Cenobite" from Hellraiser 1/2 and the actor is the super awesome Nicholas Vince. Nicholas had quite the story to tell about how he went from school plays in the countryside of England to playing the Chatterer. We talked about cheesy Christmas movies, how he met Clive Barker, behind the scenes on Hellraiser, books he's written, and lots more. We also talked about his amazing new show called "The Chattering Hour" where he has interviewed some of my absolute favorite people like Malcolm McDowell and Amanda Wyss. It's the first episode after Frightfest and, yes, Mitch and Andy are both back in the room for this, EPISODE 68! The guest this week is...well...he's horror royalty and one of the loveliest people in the genre. He's perhaps best known for his appearances in Clive Barker's Hellraiser, Hellbound: Hellraiser II and Nightbreed. He also crops up in Stewart Sparke's Book of Monsters, Lawrie Brewster's anthology For We Are Many and Andy's short film, Remnant. As if that's not enough, he is also gearing up for his first one-man show, I Am Monsters... It's the Chatterer Cenobite himself, our good pal, Nicholas Vince! His chosen film? Hellbent! Tagged as the first gay slasher film, Hellbent is a largely forgotten curiosity from 2004. Which is a bit of a shame to be honest. Not without it's problems but there's still a lot to like. It's not the easiest film to get your mitts on but seek it out. The Synopsis is as follows: A group of gay friends is celebrating Halloween in West Hollywood, a neighborhood that's being prowled by a killer wearing a devil's mask. One of them, Eddie, who works for the police, brings the others through some woods to check out a recent murder scene. They ignore the mask-wearing killer, who follows the group to a club, where he starts decapitating them one at a time -- until the only ones left are Eddie and Jake, a potential love interest. Please note that this episode contains strong language, conversations of an adult nature and some EXTREMELY Scottish accents. Today we talk about 10 minutes about what's we've been doing and watching, get into the remaining backer rewards on our ongoing Kickstarter campaign (have you seen our T-Shirt design and read about the upcoming INTERVIEW BOOK?), then go into another 20 minutes about what's new on our blog and Clive Barker news, Hellraiser: Judgement will have a theatrical release, a Hellraiser cast reunion in the short film The Offer, Clive Barker wants to help YOU make a movie, in association with Project Greenlight and Shudder, Barbie Wilde announced a surprised (it was about BLUE EYES, an upcoming feature film with Chris Alexander), and Terror Con will feature Nicholas Vince, Barbie Wilde and Simon Bamford this month in Rhode Island, so get your tickets! We've also been discussing a few format changes for our show to become weekly, alternating between a news episode and a more in depth, topic episode or interview, or features like audio commentaries. Let us know if you'd like a weekly drop like this or if you'd like us to return to a longer bi-weekly episode with a news opening. This format has advantages— if we are spending more time editing a topic episode we can upload a news episode while we're working it, and if there are date sensitive news we can release them without rushing a topic episode. We don't like to keep interviews or topic episodes in the can, but it would be nice to have a certain backlog that we could tap into and prepare things with a little more time. So let us know. Movie Meltdown - Episode 365 This week we welcome our special guest co-host Nicholas Vince (The Chatterer in Hellraiser 1 & 2 as well as Kinski in Nightbreed) to discuss this week's Sofa Theater feature: The Mist. Directed by Frank Darabont and based on the novella by Stephen King, this 2007 film was released with seemingly little hype and promotion but still seemed to leave a staggering impact on it's viewers over the years. Listen as we discuss the acting, shooting style, casting choices, practical and CG effects and last but certainly not least - the memorable and controversial ending. And while we try to decide just what the siren means to us, we also mention... Andre Braugher, the story of Yugoslavia, Greg Nicotero, leaders and experts, Toby Jones, Drew Struzan, people cannot stand uncertainty, The Blob, eases it's way in, Marcia Gay Harden, The Dark Tower, an abrogation of responsibility, let's put every one in a hot box, we do not like uncertainty, prejudice, air raids in the second world war, Buddhism, writing comic books, Jeffrey DeMunn, a contained story, I don't negate, by any sense... the struggles that us little ant-like human beings on this very small blue planet... in the very small, little uninteresting arm of the galaxy..., Laurie Holden, that's not what you really need to be afraid of, The Walking Dead, they are to blame, bullying and taking it to the worst possible conclusion, Thomas Jane, Night of the Living Dead, we live in crazy balance, yes... I wrote that story, who's going to step up, angered by it, beautifully shot, breaking off into little groups, make me an instrument of thy will, Dead Can Dance, Marcia Gay Harden, it is overwhelming, it's an overwhelming movie, finding the scapegoat, Nathan Gamble, we are a broad church, directing theater and Melissa McBride. "...it is just a terribly difficult watch... I find it absolutely stunning." 11/22/2015 This time we have a very interesting conversation with Author Paul Kane about his upcoming book BLOOD RED coming out on December 1st from Short and Scary Tales Publications. We also touch upon his very entertaining book of short stories MONSTERS (published by Alchemy Press) and his reference book about the Hellraiser franchise The Hellraiser Films and their Legacy (2006), as well as another publication called Hellraisers: The Hellraiser Interview Book, which is almost ready to come out from Avalard Publishing later this year, if it all goes well. We also talk about the upcoming story Sherlock Holmes and the Servants of Hell, that will have our favorite detective Sherlock Holmes going up against the Hell Priest. Previously on the @Barkercast: Sherlock Holmes vs Hellraiser BLOOD RED is a bold new take on the Little Red Riding Hood fable popularized by Charles Perrault, that Paul Kane turned into something entirely original and his own. You can read our individual reviews of this book here (Ryan), here (Rob) and here (José). This is Ryan's review of MONSTERS. Apologies for some slight technical issues with this call, but Skype connection had some minor issues a little bit into the call, (London was having some bad weather) and we switched to calling Paul's landline instead, so you will notice a change in the quality of the call on Paul's end around the time when we are talking about MONSTERS, that's where it comes from. You can pre-order BLOOD RED from SST Publications here, and MONSTERS on Amazon. To find out more about Paul Kane's work, you can find him on Twitter and please visit his website Shadow Writer. 11/17/2014 We took some time to address news, feedback and discussion in this episode. There was lots to talk about! SHOW NOTES Clive Barker was on the Nerdist Podcast http://www.nerdist.com/pepisode/nerdist-podcast-clive-barker/ Ryan was interviewed in Entertainment Weekly, but in that article there was some stuff revealed about the proposed Hellraiser remake http://www.ew.com/ew/static/longform/nightbreed/desktop/ “The movie actually begins on Devil's Island. I wanted to fold into the Hellraiser narrative something about the guy—the Frenchman Lemarchand—who made the mysterious box, which raises Pinhead. I figured, ‘Well, what would have happened to him?' He might well have been taken to Devil's Island and I thought that would be a pretty cool place to start the movie. We're waiting for Bob to come back to us and see when we're going to actually make the movie.” Midnight Meat Train arriving in homes everywhere. Earthling Publications is proud to announce that we have acquired the rights to publish the limited, signed, deluxe edition of Clive Barker's THE SCARLET GOSPELS. As a well-established publisher of Clive's work, most recently having published an oversized anniversary edition of his epic dark fantasy WEAVEWORLD, we are thrilled to be doing this project that features two of Clive's iconic characters, Pinhead and Harry D'Amour. Earthling published a deluxe edition of THE HELLBOUND HEART, which “gave birth” to the Cenobites, so it seems only fitting for us to publish a novel that will likely see the death of Pinhead. Clive calls GOSPELS “a HORROR NOVEL with the graphic violence and perverse eroticism of the most intense tales from the Books of Blood.” Details regarding print run, design, and special features will be announced and ordering will commence by January 1, 2015. web www.clivebarkercast.com iTunes (Leave a review!), Podomatic, XBOX Music Store, Tune-In Radio, Stitcher, Doubletwist, Blackberry and Pocketcast. We were lucky enough to sit down recently with Nicholas Vince, who played Chatterer in Hellraiser and Hellbound: Hellraiser 2, and also Kinski in Nightbreed. In part 1 of 2 we discuss his early life, meeting Clive Barker and working on the Hellraisers. Some wonderful anecdotes about the making of the films, including some very disturbing images that we nearly saw on film!
The second part of our interview with Nicholas "Chatterer" Vince. We talk Hellraiser, Nightbreed, acting, writing and monsters. Find out his take on Nightbreed and the character of Kinski, his writing for comics as well as short stories, and what he's up to next. A fascinating chat with a lovely chap.
Jose Leitao and Ryan Danhauser interview Nicholas Vince, who played the Chatterer Cenobite in Hellraiser, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, and Kinski in Clive Barker's Nightbreed. He was also a writer for Marvel's Nightbreed and Hellraiser comics in the 90s, and he contributed for several Magazines like Fear, Skeleton Crew and Crisis, writing several beautiful short stories and doing a series of interviews titled “The Lugagge in the Crypt” with several Artists and writers. He also wrote the comic series “Warheads” and “Mortigan Goth“. In 2009 his story Devil's Design was published in the Hellbound Hearts anthology. Watch out for an upcoming book by Mr. Vince called “WHAT MONSTERS DO”, still being written. We can't wait for it to come out! In pursuit of a woman who rejected his looks, Kinski used Saint-Victor's compound, which – so rumour went – allowed the user to reconfigure his features as imagination willed. In the fugue state the drug induced, however, he wandered out to gaze at the crescent moon, and it was that image his softening features took as inspiration. He attempted suicide by throwing himself into the Seine. He claims he drowned there, and rose to the surface the following night, when the moon rose. This is most likely nonsense. The Seine simply washed him up alive. He was thereafter cleansed of all desire, except for the moon, in the faces of which, he will say, he can see al his lusts made chilly perfection.” – Photo by Murray Close. 2.
