About Franziska Iseli: I'm Swiss born and that's why I have an accent and you know, my friends always love making fun of my sometimes sentence structures when I don't get it completely right. I live in Sydney right now. I've been in Australia for 14 to 15 years. I'm really focused on working in and on our businesses, mainly Basic Bananas and Ocean Lovers and our brand consultancy. And what makes me and how I got here. I believe what are some of the traits that I find have brought me here and make me invincible is optimism. I'm super duper optimistic. I always see the glass half full and that's definitely helped a lot in the business journey, or even on the adventures, you know, like riding along the Silk Road. And the second one is intuition. And this is something I learned along the journey. I didn't know too much about intuition growing up until later into my 20s, and then suddenly became really intrigued about this whole thing. I started to really research it almost, you know, almost researching intuition from a logical standpoint, but intuition is not that logical. So I started to really embrace it. The third one is courage. I feel like courage has definitely helped me too. To get to where we are and run basic mountains especially in a way that is unique to us and, and standing by our values and our principles, which we'll talk a little bit more about later when, you know, we share a few more lessons on that. So having the courage to do business our way that's definitely also helped to be invincible. And the last one, I would say is just always leading with value. So always asking myself, is this adding value? You know, am I doing this to add value or am I just doing it if I'm just doing it and it doesn't add value, then I don't want to do it. So it's just adding value to making an impact. And I believe those are probably the key things that have really helped to bring me to the place where I am now. ~You can find Franziska Iseli…Websites: https://www.franziskaiseli.com/ www.basicbananas.com Basicbananas.com/virtualsummit Basicbananas.com/pjTwitter and Instagram: @franziskaiseli @basicbananas @oceanlovers_united ---Connect with Kamie Lehmann!Website: https://www.kamielehmann.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/kamie.lehmann.1LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kamie-lehmann-04683473

In this episode, Franziska shares some wonderful ideas and tips on courageous leadership, concepts of imperfection and how it is helpful for leaders and teams, personal branding, and more. Franziska is an internationally renowned speaker, entrepreneur, adventurer. She's known for her thought leadership and for pushing boundaries. Franziska is a maverick entrepreneur, leading marketing strategist, mad adventurer, author and the co-founder BasicBananas.com, Oceanlovers.com, MomentsofHumanity.com, TheBusinessHood.com and SaltyLipsBand.com. This episode is one knowledge-packed and fun episode to listen to. On winning a number one female speaker award - "I am often the only female speaker so it's a little bit easier to win that award." Franziska shares her take on courageous leadership. "There's a huge difference between courageous leadership where you lead with a vision and then there's the managers where it's more about the KPIs and the goals, and you need both.“ “The only thing that is certain right now is uncertainty. So having leaders that are leading with courage is so important.” The three components a courageous leader must have - vision, principle, intuition “Logic is not going to get us anywhere right now because none of this stuff is logical. It's, it's quite nonsensical, a lot of it.” The courage effect "Courage is contagious. And leading with these principles is contagious. Naturally as a leader, and if you have team members, they look up to you, whether you know it or not or whether you think they do or not, they do, and they will copy you." "The courage effect is about leading by example, not pointing the finger or forcing something onto people. And then naturally some people will fall away from your teams. Naturally some people will deselect themselves and that's good." Franziska shares some ideas and her thoughts on how to keep teams engaged. The concept of imperfection (relating to teams) and the comparison trap "Give people ownership and expect people to own their results. And you can do this by encouraging people to fail, to make mistakes, not getting upset about failures, but actually rewarding almost failures." “What often happens is that we as humans, as a society, are so obsessed with perfection. And it comes often from comparing ourselves and looking at what other people are doing.” Bottom-up leadership "(As a leader) You want to get your team to engage in your vision and principles and drive the culture." Franziska's tips for leaders who want to enhance their personal brand within an organisation "Personal branding needs to come from you. It needs to be authentic." The brand alchemy method "The more that the person can get clarity on what they're good at, the more they can bring that into the business." Franziska Iseli, a maverick entrepreneur and leading brand strategist, has a rebellious reputation for always wanting to do things differently. An eternal optimist, no challenge seems too big for Franziska. In 2013, she was named Young Entrepreneur of the Year for her innovation, creativity, and philanthropic work with Singularity U and the United Nations. We discuss her book "The Courage Map: 13 Principles for Living Boldly." When people ask Franziska what she does, how does she like to reply? The book starts with a letter addressed to courage. What is Franziska's thinking? If courage wrote back to Franziska, what would that letter say? Courage is a skill to be learnt. Why does Franziska believe it can be learnt? Do many of us misunderstand courage in it's most simplistic form? Is there a trigger Franziska calls upon when she knows she is going to need courage? Courage helps people stay true to themselves. When was Franziska not true to herself? Do you own your truth? How do you know if you own your truth? How has courage allowed Franziska to stay true to herself? Why do we not ask, "do you have a reason?" The phone call that changed the way Franziska looked at life forever What does Franziska wish she had the courage to say to her father? One strategy Franziska discovered that stops fear from pulling her into an emotional prison -- journaling. What ideologies about courage have Franziska changed in recent times? How Franziska sees fear as aliens Some stories can quash our courage and lead us to live in fear - did that happen to Franziska? What if there is only perfectly imperfect? Which of the 13 principles for living boldly is the most misunderstood? The next chapter, what would be the 14th principle? Today, we continue the conversation with a social entrepreneur – one who likes to push the boundaries, test the validity of the rules and be a non-conformist – and she’s from Switzerland! This woman eats “contrasts” for breakfast!! One minute, she’s dressed up for a speaking engagement in Sydney CBD, and the next, she’s riding her motorbike through on a dirt track in Turkey! Franziska Iseli’s jump into entrepreneurship began in 2008 with a phone call from her brother Reto in Switzerland where he had to break the terrible news that their 58yr old father had suddenly passed away from a heart attack. She broke down… As she began walking the cliffs of the Northern Beaches, the question that kept visiting her was: ‘If I was to die right now, would I be happy with my life?’ She had to confess that ‘No! I can do better than this, I can make a bigger impact.’ So she quit her career in advertising and started her current company Basic Bananas which is “small business marketing made simple”.Her main purpose in life is to have an impact, add value and make people smile. Whether its her “Ripple Effectors” brand or her new inspiration “Moments of Humanity” or her upcoming book launching early next year on Courage, this girl continues to challenge the status quo and somehow manages to be a non-conformist who FITS IN!Thanks Franziska for taking some time out of your day to share the adventures that make up your life so far…Meet Franziska:Franziska Iseli sat crossed legged on her living room floor eating breakfast after an early morning surf at Narrabeen on Sunday 17 February 2008 when her phone rang. It was her brother Reto calling from Switzerland. He told her their father had suddenly passed away from a heart attack—he was 58. ‘I have no idea how my brother made that call to me,’ Franziska says. ‘It must have been so hard to share such incomprehensible news with his little sister across the other side of the world.’Franziska’s world broke down for her. She spent a lot of time in the following months walking along a cliff top on the Northern Beaches. She was soul searching, questioning the way she lived her life. ‘If I was to die right now would I be happy with my life?’ was a question that kept coming up. ‘No! I can do better than this, I can make a bigger impact.’ So she quit her career in advertising and started Basic Bananas.Identifying a gap in the marketFranziska’s first step in setting up Basic Bananas was to identify a market need. She knew from working in advertising agencies there was a gap in the market for small to medium sized businesses to access marketing and advertising services on a smaller budget. Small businesses are the engine room of our economy and 44 per cent of Australians work in them. But most run on a shoestring and they can’t afford to pay advertising agencies for the marketing advice they need to grow and prosper. Franziska decided to take her knowledge from the corporate sector and a master’s degree in marketing to the small business world by providing entrepreneurs with marketing training and advice.Building a maverick brandAfter identifying a market need and an audience, Franziska set about building the Basic Bananas brand. ‘I wanted a quirky brand that stands out from the crowd,’ she says. ‘Back then I had a really smart business woman as a mentor. When I told her I’d decided on Basic Bananas as the name of my business she grimaced.’‘No! You’ve got to change it,’ her mentor insisted. She wanted Franziska to choose something more normal, less out there.‘No way!’ Franziska replied emphatically. ‘I can’t do that. I may not know how to run a business just yet but the one thing I do know is branding and I know Basic Bananas is the right name. It will take a little longer to take off, but it will go really far and create a loyal following. I am going to build a tattoo-wort

Do you struggle to put yourself and your business out there when it comes to marketing? In 2013 Franziska was awarded the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award recognising her innovation, creativity and philanthropic involvement. She has this rare combination of being both creative and strategic, which makes her a powerful thought leader in the business world. If you are someone who despises the wasting of potential, you will love this episode. I titled this quite literally, because 'Ziska' (her nickname to me, because she hates Fran, so we went with Ziska), is the epitome of potential extrapolation from a human being. She is the author of bestselling book PERCEPTION - Take charge of how others view your brand, become irresistible and make a bigger impact and Bananas About Marketing – How to Attract a Whole Bunch of Clients. She is regularly featured across the media including INC, Forbes, Business Insider, Virgin Inflight Entertainment, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, SmartCompany, Dynamic Business Magazine, BRW, 2UE, Channel 9. As a Swiss born Aussie and with an ability to speak five languages, she has been known to make up a few words, which keeps everyone amused and engaged. She has an amazing ability to forecast and execute strategies with precision results like a Swiss clock. She is funny as hell and not afraid to get incredibly open in this episode. My fav takeaways: The only two things we ever need to be happy in life That you are not your culture/family/country/religion/gender Limit? What is a limit? (How to be limitless in real life, not just on an IG quote) Perspective - how it can change your life in an instant What really matters in our lives, and how to take action even when you are terrified or have no idea Why looking after our planet is something we all need to think about right now A billion other personal and hilarious stories about giving, virginity and tattoos. In this episode I talk to Franziska Iseli on how she uses surfing in her life to "Be Awesome." I love the saying "Be Awesome" so much I may even use as SurfPeople's mantra. Franziska is a woman of many talents and loves building new business and helping others to grown their own. She is married to Christo Hall who was in episode number 3, so there is no doubt that surfing and the ocean is at the core of everything they do. I really love her attitude towards life and thinks that passion is good, but it can be dangerous to try to eek out a living from your passion. So she recommends that always follow your passion but if you are in a job that sucks try to apply passion to certain aspects of the job. If, after that you're are still not happy maybe then you should look at some alternatives. She operates and creates content for her Ocean Lovers website which started as a social experiment and she talks about to spend $5 a day to build the "Ocean Lovers" community. Franziska loves the Maldives (so do I) because living on boat where all your food and travel is sorted your left with the task of just surfing and relaxing. I believe(d) that there are 3 key elements to living a full and successful life: Live with passion, try hard to overcome your fears, and take massive action. Franziska suggested another element that I have no hesitation adding to my list. The forth one is Trust (In yourself & others) This is a great episode and I hope you enjoy it. Goodmorning, I am feeling so energized and inspired from the Awesomeness Fest Conference this week and am excited to share with you today a chat on my podcast show with an Impacteur and all round awesome person, Franziska Iseli. What is an Impacteur? An Impacteur is someone who wants to make a difference, someone who loves having a positive impact on society and their environment, someone who is challenging the norm and likes doing things a bit differently, someone who loves, gives and leads. And today, Franziska is going to share some Feel Good Thoughts around How to be an impacteur? and how to make a positive impact on the world. She reminds us about how making a difference can be quite simple, whether it's writing a note to a waiter or smiling at a stranger. Whatever it is, you never know just how far your positive energy can go. As a random act of kindness, Franziska shares about how she recently paid enough bus fair for herself as well as the next customer's fair. The driver politely turned down her money and let her ride the bus for free. How refreshing is it that one small act can spread like wildfire? You too can make a positive impact by focusing on others, rather than yourself. One small act can be quite powerful; a simple compliment can make someone's day and inspire them to pay it forward. So join the 1o Day Impacteurs Challenge starting today and let's make an impact on someone's life everyday for the next 10 days. I will be posting pictures on my Instagram @FeelGoodJoey daily sharing what I do to be a impacteur and you can join in too, just remember to hashtag #impacteurs After the challenge, making an impact will surely become a way of life.
