I am deeply honored to share the screen with Aluba Fenix, an executive coach and sports psychologist with over 20 years of experience. In this episode, Aluba emphasizes the constant need to reset and recalibrate our views and values, focusing on aligning the mindset and spirit and unlocking the full potential of an individual or a team in achieving high-performance outcomes. There is still an awful lot of work to do to make the corporate world more human. Business leaders need to recognize their duty to care for their teams and implement approaches and programs acknowledging that we are working with humans (and not machines). The biggest skill that we lack as a modern society is an openness to conduct respectful dialogues. We struggle to listen to dissenting voices other than our own. We're only looking for information confirming our beliefs and losing the humility that we could be wrong. Whether in Business or how we run governments, we urgently need to shift around this inadequacy that creates polarization and contempt among ourselves. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion - post-COVID. How people are shamed for their medical decisions and different groups taking a stand for and against vaccination to demonize each other. Before she became a style icon, an influencer and built a successful business on the internet, Amber Renae was a civil engineer working on a construction site building roads and bridges. Her entrepreneurial journey is a giant roller coaster of success and failures that she rode and overcame again and again. In this episode, Amber shares her biggest lessons of learning how to delegate and asking for help from others, removing the ego from all she's created and finally achieving freedom by building a business around a life she loves.Fifteen years ago, Amber recalled taking the plunge by leaving her good, solid paying job following the dream of starting a fashion label. She began with a sewing machine, sold four shirts to boutiques in Queensland and Brisbane, and had 120 accounts around the world five years later. They did runway shows and influencer marketing, dressing Paris Hilton along with many other celebrities before anyone was doing anything like this. Success was halted as Amber's overseas manufacturer went out of business, took her out of business and left her bankrupt. "I didn't believe in support or getting help. Watch: Become The Best Workplace With No BS with Andrew Houston.Key points covered in this episode: [00:07:11] Every business owner needs to start to take extreme ownership. Often if there is failure or success in the output, we must adopt the mindset that often, we may have been a cause in a situation. [00:13:55] Learn to manage your energy at work and home. Step into the "third space" and think about the outcome you want and what energy you need to radiate to your clients, employees and when you go home to your family. [00:16:49] Practice breathing exercises to keep you centered. It can only take 5 minutes to tell your parasympathetic nervous system that you are safe and don't need to freak out, especially in the middle of stressful moments at work. Changing the chemicals and biology within your body quickly puts you in a position to respond with intention rather than responding from your current emotions. [00:22:37] A reminder for you today: your employees and the people in your team are not apps that don't have feelings, emotions and things running in their background. If you can focus on your humans and help reduce their stress levels and everything else that's going on in their worlds, expect them to give back their best to you and your business. [00:26:16] Studies show with the top places to work in the world that if someone has a best friend at work or feels like they are genuinely cared about by someone -- they last seven times longer. With lesser turnover and less cost of attrition, people who love to work for you and stay are, in fact, more profitable.[00:29:36] Icebreaker cards are a simple yet often overlooked method that does wonders to initiate a funny or thoughtful conversation that creates an emotional bond between the team members.Andrew Houston is the owner and founder of Profit for Contractors. It's a sit down, individual, what would make this the best job for you? People should not only have a chance to voice what's important to them, but they should be heard on an individual level since they are the only one capable of doing exactly what they do.[00:08:29] Empowering your team. “If we can satisfy people's growth, their contribution needs, and they feel like there's some significance there - then you're helping to fill up that cup and grow as a human. Are you having a hard time handling your teams and keeping them on track? Kyle Probert and I can't emphasize enough the necessity for organizations and companies to focus on culture overhaul and how vital the care factor is that makes employees happier, productive and engaged.Key points covered in this episode:[00:03:55] The idea that the people should just turn up for work and grind is so outdated. [00:05:49] Maintain that care factor so that your people adopt a culture of going out of their way to help each other. When they treat each other not just another person or a colleague but as friends, they are bound to help and make each other's life easier. [00:11:36] Think about your third space. Work on lessening the stress and pressure because not every day is going to be rainbows and lollipops. Find ways to help your employees and your team cope and support them too so that they can be fully present in their families when they leave work.[00:15:33] We can't expect our teams to be vulnerable with each other if we're not willing to be vulnerable ourselves. [00:15:38][5.0][00:20:52] As a leader, and maybe as a boss, we forget that our ego is our enemy. [00:23:28] Creating ripples in the organizational chart. [00:30:01] Applying scrum meetings is the best practice by providing an open platform for the team to communicate with each other and ensure that all the information is available for everyone. If everyone shares what they're working on or where they get stuck, all the hurdles can be moved out of the way and success is made to happen. [00:33:18] Figure out who's the ball holders and who clears the field to go where the team needs to go. And that again brings in that camaraderie, so if you think about the concept of friendship or mateship, it makes work smooth and effective.[00:37:21] Happiness is the most fantastic hack to productivity and profitability. [00:40:46] Nerf guns and office fun. Enjoying some lightheartedness at work is a virtue that every company should try to embody. We talk about how nerf guns can foster play as productivity for adult learners and workers.[00:45:52] Most leaders do not apply the changes they propose to themselves, yet they tell the team to do it. You've probably seen all sorts of videos and memes about people being in an office and still thinking they're on Zoom — muting and yawning while somebody else is talking. While it can take adjustments easing back in the workplace, business coaches and authorities Jade Green and Mark Creedon discuss mindset changes that need to be adopted to get the most out of your team, and strategies to thrive as a leader in the new normal.Tune in to this new episode of the Barrels & Business show —Reset Your Workplace Culture with Mark Creedon. Key points covered in this episode: [00:10:56] Mark Creedon shares, "If you don't change your frame of mind before you walk in the door, it doesn't matter what "fake-it-till-you-make-it" smile you put on your face; you will be taking that negative energy as you walk through your business."[00:14:26] Take ownership and assess that in every situation that fails or succeeds, often it is caused by you as the leader. Jade emphasizes that you cannot just throw a training manual of words at your people and hope for the best. Always assess what you could have done better with your team or what you could do differently? [00:23:07]Your employees are your number one customers. If you want your people to give exceptional customer service, they will never give it if you don't provide them excellent employee service.[00:25:01] There is a massive war for great talent right now. Jade reminds us that if you don't convince your valuable people that you're worth staying for, they can leave. It's time to rethink your outdated methods and think: What can I do differently? [00:26:22] Values are a set of beliefs that you can't force upon other people, but a set of virtues is something you strive towards as a collective. Jade Green[00:30:38] Create your ready tools to help you change your energy state. Jade recommends having a different Spotify list for every occasion. When preparing for a talk, she listens to meditation or soulful music and an essential blend of oils. She has ready her favorite pump-up tracks before team sales and marketing meetings. She calls another playlist "thinking music" when she needs to write and create plans.[00:39:46] Culture is what your people do when you're not watching. Think about that. And whether they would be telling a story of frustration or feeling excited to go back to the office the next day inspired — this depends on the experience you strive to deliver to your people who are your best asset.https://metropolemastermind.com.au/Connect with Jade Green and the Barrels and Business Community ● Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/barrelsandbusiness/● Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jadegreenau/● Linkedin - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jadegreenau● YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/JadeGreen● Website: https://www.jadegreen.com.au/ Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. This should be a PRIORITY.And something else you need to prioritize is BRINGING IN THE RIGHT PEOPLE. John explains why you SHOULDN'T HIRE the people you like or people who are just like you. It's all about simplifying the process and hiring for ONE CORE CAPACITY.There are A LOT MORE tips and strategies in this episode. Jade with Cyprien Clerc on How Honesty, Helping Others, and Failure are the Keys to Business Growth

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 1, 2021 83:55

Does what you DO align with who you ARE?Or are you just doing what you think you SHOULD be doing?Cyprien Clerc from the FutureSeeds podcast interviews Jade in an episode FILLED with so many practical insights you might want to take notes to keep up.Jade talks about the importance of taking the first step to find alignment, which is BEING HONEST WITH YOURSELF. You might have convinced yourself that you are thriving in life when, in reality, you are doing the things you think you should be doing, not what you truly want.Plus, she provides tools to identify what your VALUES are and how to be consonant with them. This will mean cutting bridges with the people, jobs, and businesses that are not aligned with who you are, AND THAT'S OK.Remember, every little thing you say yes to means saying no to something else. That's why it's SO IMPORTANT that you take a hard look at your purpose and what you want to achieve and make your choices accordingly.Finding YOUR PATH sounds as ambiguous as it gets. Jade gives practical tools, such as taking the first step and reverse-engineering this process by identifying what your goals are AND THEN working from there to identify the steps you need to take to get there.Starting with WHAT YOU LOVE and asking yourself how you want to serve others is KEY to be successful in this process.Staying in alignment is not easy but knowing your values and keeping them in mind is what will allow you to determine what is acceptable and what isn't. You can't impose your values on someone else but you can establish the VIRTUES you want to see in your business and choose employees and clients that align with this.No one does this perfectly all the time and Jade is very candid about it. She talks about the times in which she stepped away from her values and found herself reaching burnout because she wasn't being TRUE TO HERSELF.And this is another KEY LEARNING from this episode! YOU ARE GOING TO FAIL but how you face this failure and your resilience are what's going to determine your success as an entrepreneur. Failure is a learning opportunity that will allow you to grow and do things differently AND BETTER the next time. You need to be DISCIPLINED and apply this mindset to everything. By being disciplined, you will have the freedom to do the things you want to do and that will bring fulfillment to your life.Jade gives many other important tips and tools for entrepreneurial success, such as the steps you need to take to MONETIZE your idea and key insights into building your personal brand. This conversation is insightful, practical, as honest as it gets, and a wealth of knowledge all in one. What on Earth are you waiting for? Tune in RIGHT NOW! (link)Key points (00:00): Welcome to Barrels and Business!(01:34): Trying to have all the nice things despite being immersed in debt or doing something that is not really fulfilling and calling it thriving when it's barely surviving.(06:14): Identifying what truly makes you happy and reverse-engineering your path to get there.(09:13): Cultural programming can become a self-sabotage tool that doesn't allow for growth and achievement.(11:26): Learning what aligns with your personality and using your current skills and acquiring the new ones you might need to work towards that goal.(18:37): The cost of not being coherent with your values. (24:32): Not loving your job leads to burnout and a ripple effect that affects others in your company.(30:18): Only a small fraction of people truly have a calling. A purpose can be simply coming into this world to have a specific experience.(38:07): Not everyone has to be an entrepreneur. Finding a structure that aligns with your values and joining it can be equally satisfying. (44:23): Resilience is instrumental for an entrepreneur. Being able to bounce back and learn from failures is always necessary.(51:33): The steps towards monetizing your idea involve discipline, planning, and identifying the paths that can help you get to your goal. (57:50): Doing the necessary market research to understand the potential of your idea. (01:00:19): Jade's realization of what was holding her back and how she had to shatter her own identity to be able to reinvent herself.(01:08:55): Branding is a lot about what is the image and the feeling you want to elicit in others when you enter the room.(01:13:33): Jade's programs for business owners and entrepreneurs setting the foundations for their brand and building kickass teams and company culture.(01:16:8): Jade's drive and desire to impact other people and help others build better businesses and change the world through intent and actions. Key takeaways & quotes Thriving isn't about the amount of money you make but about constantly being in flow doing what you love.Finding out what the best version of yourself is before striving for that is key.Asking yourself “who do I want to help” or “who do I want to serve” is the best way to find what can truly light you up.“The super high-performing teams feel safe to be vulnerable.”“Just because you can do it doesn't mean you should do it.”“Everything you say yes to, you say no to something else. You have to ask yourself if you are willing to say no to that.”Knowing when to stop is as important as knowing when to speed up.Performing market research and surveying your audience is key to see if your idea can work.“What holds you back is who you are and who you're refusing to become.”A personal brand needs to be in alignment and authentic to be able to succeed.Connect with Me and the Barrels and Business Community Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/barrelsandbusiness/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jadegreenau/Linkedin - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jadegreenauYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/JadeGreenWebsite: https://www.jadegreen.com.au/Connect with Cyprien ClercFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/cyprien.clerc Website: https://www.futureseeds.news/author/cyprien_clerc/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/cyprien-clerc-5186016/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thefutureseedspodcast/ Podcast: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/the-futureseeds-podcast-cyprien-clerc-2Lkq0Rh9ItJ/ Mentioned resourcesIkigai training: https://www.udemy.com/course/learn-ikigai/ What I Know for Sure: https://amzn.to/3rC68kBThe Code of the Extraordinary Mind:https://amzn.to/372vz5pWhat You Do Is Who You Are: https://amzn.to/2VgG8PmThe Hard Thing About Hard Things: https://amzn.to/2UN7xJ7Extreme Ownership: https://amzn.to/3x3PpYx Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. How to Release your Triggers and Become Response-able

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 4, 2021 53:30

Are you RESPONSE-ABLE?Being able to respond requires you to be in the right mindset, managing your stressors instead of letting them accumulate, build up, and lead you to an explosion that can have terrible consequences for you and your team. When you or anyone in your team explodes because of a trigger, this means the person is REACTING INSTEAD OF RESPONDING. But what's the problem with reacting?Kyle & Jade are together once again to talk about the importance of being response-able, the stressors that can make the workplace feel like a minefield, and the tools you can implement RIGHT NOW to make a drastic change in this. One of the things you need to keep in mind is that YOUR ACTIONS as a leader trickle down the ladder of your employees. Therefore, you should always ask yourself what is the RESPONSE YOU WANT from your team?If you are snapping and being erratic all the time, that's exactly how your team is going to behave. Think of the BEST LEADER you've worked with, the one who made you want to be better and give more at work. That's EXACTLY what you should be thinking about when you lead. One commonality across leaders worldwide is that they TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES. People often think that leaders should sleep 2 hours a day, barely eat, and exist solely for their jobs to be successful. This is an absolute LIE! The best leaders make sure they take time for themselves, usually using it to stay active be it by practicing a sport or any other activity that engages their mind and allows them to connect WITH THEMSELVES.Do you do the same? This is the only way in which you can truly take care of your employees. To promote responses instead of reactions you need to UNDERSTAND where your employees are coming from, their buttons, and their triggers. Otherwise, your workplace will be in constant chaos. The key here is to CONTROL WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL. This allows you to manage the things you can't control more successfully. Jade and Kyle provide great real-life examples and tools to help you implement these strategies. It's all TAKING THE TIME to invest in how you manage your team and being willing to let go when it's necessaryReady to learn more? Go NOW to linkKey points (00:00): Welcome to Barrels and Business!(04:50): The importance of avoiding a breaking point or threshold that leads you to react instead of responding.(07:16): There are usually many stressors that might lead you to accumulate pressure until you explode and react in an unproductive way.(09:40): Nutrition can have an important impact on the ability of leaders to lead and communicate with their team as well as the energy they transmit to others.(13:57): The dangers of making a decision when you are overly energized from things like excessive caffeine intake or crashing from a high intake of carbs.(16:20): As a leader, it's important to understand how others work and what their triggers and buttons for reacting instead of responding are.(22:30): Leaders need to be “the meat in the sandwich” and manage the pressure they are putting on the rest of the team in the best way. (25:37): The most inspiring leaders take care of themselves, practice a sport, or are physically active, which allows them to take care of others.(29:24): Tools to help employees to be more active during work and helping them activate their mind in the process. (37:06): As a leader, you can help a team that has become negatively competitive by encouraging them to play for outcomes instead of goals. (41:58): Sports can be a good example of how to improve the strength of a work team. (43:58): Sometimes, as the business changes, one of the team members can't change with the business. It's important to identify when it's time to help them find the right role for them somewhere else. Key takeaways & quotes It's important to process stressors as they come to avoid accumulating them until the point of exploding and reacting instead of responding.Controlling the things you can allows you to better manage the things you can't control. As a leader, it's important to act keeping in mind the type of response you want from your team.“Exercise reduces the possibility of reaching the reacting threshold.”Men need to connect with nature, which can be applied in the workplace.Leaders need to be able to respond and interact with employees by understanding what they need to thrive.“The best leaders are people who take care of themselves.”Connect with Me and the Barrels and Business Community Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/barrelsandbusiness/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jadegreenau/Linkedin - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jadegreenauYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/JadeGreenWebsite: https://www.jadegreen.com.au/Connect with Kyle Probert Website: https://www.apthydraulics.com.au/Instagram: @kyle_aptLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kyleprobertMentioned resourcesWealth Dynamics test: https://www.wealthdynamics.com/ Love Language Test: https://www.5lovelanguages.com/ Legacy: https://www.amazon.com/Legacy-Sports-James-Kerr/dp/153181218X Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. YOU FINALLY FOUND THE ONE! After a dedicated recruitment process, you finally found the right person for the job and it's time to start the onboarding process. Now you just need to make sure you don't mess it up! Did you know that 70% of people start looking for a new job within 90 days of working at a new place? The last thing you want is for all your recruitment effort to go to waste! There are many strategies you can use to ensure this doesn't happen and Kyle Probert and Jade are here to help you NAIL YOUR ONBOARDING process.Kyle is the head of APT Training and he's working with Jade to transform his business from the inside out with amazing results! Fresh from a recent onboarding process, they have excellent tips that can help you succeed at it! One of the main keys is making sure the period between making the offer and Day 1 goes through without a hitch! How can you do this? You want to keep your new employees ENGAGED during this process. Remind them of how excited you are to have them be part of the team and make them feel valued. After signing the contract (and make sure it happens fast after they accept the offer, you don't want them to get poached!), you can do little things such as sending them a video of the office and the layout there, or inviting them to a social activity with the team. The goal is for the new recruit to feel like part of the team BEFORE THEY EVEN BEGIN. Other small things you can do are giving them their uniform early on or setting up a buddy system, choosing someone from the team to engage with them and make them feel welcome. You should also make sure you have your training processes recorded and that you can provide them AHEAD OF TIME. That way, they won't feel lost during the first day and you can ensure they understand your business' values and virtues from Day 1.Oh and Day 1? EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! You want to make sure you make time for the new employee during their first day. Make it part of your day's schedule! The goal is to make them feel welcome, ensure they have everything they need to excel at their job, and answer any questions they might have. But what happens when things don't work out as expected? What if it turns out they're not a good match for the position? As Jade says, “hire slow, fire fast”. It's not about giving up right away if they need some adjustment time, not at all! It's about understanding when to let someone go and learning from that experience and what you can do better next time! If they are not meeting the business' needs and they are not growing, it's a lose-lose situation for both of you! It's better to accept when it's time to move on.And if you have the right person, you want to make sure they stay on. John Logar and the 5 things you need to nail in your advertising

Are you ready for a MARKETING MASTERCLASS?!That is exactly what John Logar provides in this amazing episode with at least a dozen — I'm not exaggerating — insights, tips, and actionable pieces of advice for business owners looking to implement explosive online marketing strategies.John is the CEO and founder of Consulting Unleashed and he is an expert who coaches digital marketing agencies and consultants. Through his experience as a serial entrepreneur, he has a wealth of knowledge about online marketing and he shares amazing information with all of us!One of the things John prioritizes is BRANDING, a word you might have heard a thousand times before. However, John expands on how to successfully do it, which includes strategies to ensure you get web domains and social media handles under YOUR NAME.John wants to make sure your business is among the top results provided by a Google search and that you're as visible as possible. After all, the goal is for you to TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR BRAND and have a digital footprint that leads your business to success. You've succeeded at lead generation through your online presence and advertising but how many of those are you converting? John is a big advocate of advertising and he sets this as an instrumental investment. However, even the best advertising campaigns can fail.Wait, WHAT?You can have the most beautiful logo and an amazing advertising campaign but if your sales team is not optimized, you will be throwing your money down the drain. What good is a lead if you don't follow up on it?John provides perfect examples of businesses that have gotten this wrong so that YOU WON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES. Plus, John has FIVE THINGS that are key in lead generation and management and you can learn all about them in this episode. He also talks about action fakers and how they can get a thousand ideas and not take a single action. Sometimes, people get stuck on trying to build the perfect product, the perfect ad, and instead end up never launching anything because they're waiting for it to be perfect. This brings us to yet another nugget of information, which is engaging with the client. Don't wait for things to be perfect. Go ahead and launch them! And then, get feedback. Feedback is what's going to tell you if your idea is a good one or if it's time to go back to the drawing board. Plus, you can also get this feedback from current clients! Engaging with them and understanding what made them choose you is a way to get invaluable information that can help you steer your business in the right direction.Key points (00:00): Welcome to Barrels and Business!(06:38): How John started SUPpin in Austin, Texas.(16:27): The offline marketing world vs. the online marketing world. (20:25): How to get an online domain with your name or the name of your business and the importance of making it searchable. (25:52): The importance of Google Maps and being present in the local online market in order to stay relevant and be easily found by customers. (32:13): Branding is everything and the middle of a pandemic is a great time to continue branding and marketing. Luxury brands invest in marketing during depressed economic times and they earn millions because of it. (35:51): Posting is not enough. There needs to be true engagement with the customers and understanding their journey from identifying who you are to purchasing what you are selling. (43:45): How to have consistent branding across different channels and why this is so instrumental for your message and to inspire trust in the client. (52:05): Testing an advertisement before investing a lot of money in it and finding out how many clicks you need to make a sale.(56:41): The crucial moment between a client making an inquiry and the business contacting them and engaging them.(01:02:24): The importance of optimizing the sales team and ensuring the leads gotten through advertising are contacted in a timely manner. (01:13:01): Businesses need to collect and analyse data about who is visiting their sites and the potential clients engaging with the brand. (01:21:15): An ad can saturate potential clients. When this happens, the ad needs to be shown to a different audience, placed on a different platform, or it needs to be redesigned. (01:23:41): Feedback from the market is crucial and it is what tells a business if the offer is successful. The idea doesn't have to be perfect to launch it.(01:41:02): Analysing the data constantly and reviewing customer behavior is key for lead management and increasing sales.Key takeaways & quotes Only 14% of total purchases were made online before COVID-19, a number that skyrocketed to 21% in only a year. This growth was expected to take place during three years, not just one. “The more content you put out the more your name is going to show. The goal is to own the first five or six pages that show up on a Google search.”A great way to name a company is by using short, punchy words and once that's decided, the company should acquire the domain as soon as possible.Being in the right place is instrumental. Businesses need to be where their clients are, which involves choosing the right social media platforms and marketing channels.Back in 2006 five frames of reference were need by most people before making a purchase. Today, this number has increased to 32 frames of reference before deciding on a purchase. You need to have as much information as possible out there on different channels.Keep your logo simple and choose a color palette that provides consistency to your brand across different channels and backgrounds and that's representative of your company.Advertising often fails because the sales team hasn't been optimized. The advertising campaign is solid but the overall strategy isn't.“Don't advertise yourself, get a professional who can advertise your business for you.”Create actionable advertising that directs the client towards one specific action (e.g. buy now, call, contact on Facebook, etc.)“Always make an offer that's visible and actionable. If there's no offer, clients can't buy.”Connect with Me and the Barrels and Business Community Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/barrelsandbusiness/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jadegreenau/Linkedin - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jadegreenauYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/JadeGreenWebsite: https://www.jadegreen.com.au/Connect with John Logar Website: https://www.consultingunleashed.com/?r_done=1YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCftqg6zFMUffCHxKWP4LRTAInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/johnlogar1/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/johnlogarspeakerMentioned resourcesThat First Glide: https://youtu.be/ZNReU5flF3oKnowem: https://knowem.com/The Zero Moment of True: https://youtu.be/g40rrWBx2okMJ de Marco on Action Fakers: https://youtu.be/tu9HHU2sE0MI Love Marketing: https://ilovemarketing.com/podcasts/Startup School with Seth: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/seth-godins-startup-school/id566985370How to Win Friends and Influence People: https://amzn.to/3t9SlBPThe Alchemist: https://amzn.to/2PXuMgFSmall Business Big Marketing: https://podcasts.apple.com/nz/podcast/the-small-business-big-marketing-podcast-with-timbo-reid/id319019197 Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. People often mistake communication for talking. When, actually, one of the best ways to improve your communication is by listening and listening to connect not just to respond. In this episode, Kyle Probert from APT Training and Charlotte Lane dish on communication tips and tools that will bring your business to a whole new level. Charlotte is the communication queen who set up her copywriting business and is now transitioning into helping others find their voice and communicate better. She also provides advice to businesses — including Kyle's and mine! — on how to better communicate with our teams and with clients.Charlotte has many tips and tricks you can start using RIGHT NOW to improve communication within your team. For example, did you know that being silent is also a form of communication, and one that can instantly flip the switch and allow you to control the conversation? Silence doesn't make you weak, in fact, it gives YOU THE POWER!Have you ever felt like your words are not coming across as you meant them? Communication styles vary from person to person and even the mood they are in can influence things! Charlotte explains the main four communication styles according to the DISC classification, which is an awesome tool you can use to streamline your interactions with others.Remember, you are the one that needs to ensure what you are saying comes across clearly and is understood. This requires you to understand how the other person communicates and as Kyle puts it, you need to be able to empathise with them as well.A big part of communication is conflict resolution. Conflict and arguments are bound to take place at some point. This is not a bad thing! As Kyle points out, great innovation can come from conflict. Sometimes, the members of your team are able to resolve the conflict on their own, but do you know how to mediate if the time comes? Charlotte explains more about the different scenarios that can take place according to the conflict styles of those involved and how to act to achieve a positive resolution. At the end of the day, you need to be as informed as possible and you have to be able to understand your team. Plus, you need to make sure they can communicate with you and with each other. Unfortunately we aren't mind-readers! But there are different personality tests you can use right now that can have a huge impact on how you and your team communicate. Are you ready to become a master communicator? What are you waiting for? LISTEN NOW! Key points (00:00): Welcome to Barrels and Business!(04:28): Communication and connection are not just about talking more but also about listening more. (07:34): Listening is not the same as being passive. It's the best way to learn more about a situation and get additional information that allows you to understand what the next step is. (13:08): The person sending the message needs to make sure it is understood as it was intended. Sometimes, reframing the message is the best way to make sure the information truly landed.(19:04): The type of medium used to communicate ideas matters. For example, someone who understands written information better would benefit from getting an email, while people who get it just by listening benefit from verbal communication.(31:10): It is important to adapt to be able to get your message across. It is not about using special words or phrases, it is about keeping in mind the context and the receiver of the message. (34:16): There are different communication stages when interacting with someone new. After the initial exploratory phase, there comes integration in which a relationship starts to build. (40:07): The specific changes that can take place when a team or relationship is deteriorating or ending its time working together. (43:49): Disagreeing with someone is not a negative thing, there can be constructive conflict that leads to a better way to do things. However, focusing on the end result is instrumental to achieve a positive resolution.(52:50): Biases can play an important role in communication and encouraging those who know more but are often quieter than others can be instrumental to achieve significant developments and innovation.(01:03:01): Negative communication can have a very detrimental effect on the entire team and bad consequences for the business overall. If this is coming from one team member, cutting the limb to save the body might be necessary.(01:12:09): Introducing communication strategies to the team by setting it in a way that focuses on the benefits and positive results that will come from implementing these tools. (01:16:15): It is important for the team to understand why different types of personalities are needed to run a successful business. (01:20:31): As part of a team, managers often need to put their agenda on a box and put that box on the shelf. Shelving your agenda allows you to truly listen and be there for your team members instead of worrying about the bottom line. Key takeaways & quotes “Connection with the people around us is one of the most important things and this can only be achieved through communication.”Creating connections in the workplace requires the environment to feel safe enough that everyone feels they can speak up and express themselves without fearing recrimination.“When you are in a conversation and you're the person who is silent, you actually have more power in that situation.”Being able to have a conversation about how people within a team communicate can help to avoid misunderstandings. Effective communication with an audience involves empathizing with them.“There's nothing wrong with conflict or disagreeing with someone. The best innovation comes from letting people argue in a constructive way.”A mediator never takes sides. Their role is to synthesize what the actual issue is and make sure the rules of engagement are followed. Sometimes, more than one mediation instance is needed to reach an agreement.Negative communication from one person can affect the entire team and lead to a bad workplace environment and business losses. As a leader, getting feedback about how you communicate and come across can help you improve your communication style.Connect with Me and the Barrels and Business Community Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/barrelsandbusiness/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jadegreenau/Linkedin - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jadegreenauYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/JadeGreenWebsite: https://www.jadegreen.com.au/Connect with Charlotte Lane and Kyle Probert Instagram: @thecopyunicorn and @kyle_aptFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/charlotte.lane.37Charlotte's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/charlotte-lane-a55969178/Kyle's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kyleprobertMentioned resourcesKyle's Episode http://bit.ly/ep24barrelsLove Languages test https://www.5lovelanguages.com/DISC test https://discpersonalitytesting.com/free-disc-test/Talent Dynamics Test https://www.tdprofiletest.com/Brené Brown https://brenebrown.com/ Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. But almost everyone is on some form of social media! In this episode you will love how Greg opens up about his vulnerabilities, his former drinking problem and the work he has done to become the best version of himself, both for his businesses and his family. He is very open about seeking therapy and realizing he had been suppressing his feelings for so long, he didn't even identify them anymore. This has led Greg to advocate strongly for therapy and include activities that promote good mental health, like journalling, into his everyday routine. That's another key piece of advice from Greg! Training a team is all about communication, setting goals, and having an overarching purpose. But how can you communicate correctly and make sure your team is aligned with what you want for your business?Kye Probert is a service engineer who has transcended his skills as a technician and works as the leader of APT Hydraulics. The overall purpose of his business is to help hydraulics engineers be safer, more efficient, and fulfilled in their careers by providing the necessary training. Sounds straightforward enough, right? To achieve this, he has to make sure he is communicating properly with his team and their students. This includes making sure he understands how his students learn. As he puts it, when you are trying to teach something and people don't get it, it's not their fault, it's yours! In this episode, Kyle talks about how preparation is even more important than the actual work you do every day. He lives by this, teaching others how to set everything up and practice on land before diving right into the sea.We talk about the importance of visualization. From when you are surfing to when you're doing business and you're thinking about the next move you're going to make. Plus, talking about your vision with your team can make it more tangible. When you do this, the plan to achieve the set purpose turns into reality.Kyle also emphasizes the importance of ensuring the vision and virtues of his company are clear for him and everyone working with him. He has learned the hard way that without accountability, the virtues a business aspires to can get lost in the process. We also talk about the importance of creating a workspace that's fun without being unprofessional and promoting an environment that allows people to be vulnerable and express their creativity.Learn more about how to communicate with your team and the tools you can use to share your vision: (link) Key points (00:00): Welcome to Barrels and Business!(06:01): Cardboard surfing is an example of how you can rehearse what you want to practice in life before you are where you need to be to do it. (11:20): Being a leader and painting the picture of what you want to achieve for the rest of the team.(14:20): Understanding how the team better captures information and making sure you're providing it in the way that's best for them.(22:44): How Kyle and his company, APT have been navigating the pandemic and the business had its best year yet in 2020!(32:17): Who is the best team member to place in a management or leadership position?(36:21): The importance of moving from the hierarchy model to a network model to remove hurdles that are obstacles to achieving the ultimate purpose. (51:11): Making the workplace a positive environment that encourages motivation and better results.(1:08:41): The mindset of just “fucking doing the job” without looking at the other needs of the business puts a ceiling on the growth of the company.(1:10:49): Setting one hour a week to implement new ideas and tools for the business. (1:20:38): Accountability is needed to stay true to the mission and vision of the company. (01:41:46): Business plan and five-year obsession set for APT.(01:48:46): The meaning of setting an overall purpose. This should be the north star of a company.(01:59:40): Thinking about the larger impact your business will have on the world when setting the values and virtues your company will exist by. Key takeaways & quotes We can rehearse our skills before being at the place where we will be actually practicing them. You can train and rehearse for what you want to achieve wherever you are in your journey.“It's the reps you do in the land that makes the biggest difference in the water.”Creating a network instead of a hierarchy can be the best way to successfully run a business.“Vulnerability is one of the main pieces of creativity, if you can't be vulnerable you can't have creativity.”Planning and implementing are not the same thing. It is necessary to set one hour a week to start executing new ideas and developing projects. The vision and mission of the business need to be embedded into the culture and there has to be accountability and metrics related to this mission.Scaling-down can be a great way to set a tangible picture for the team. This leads to the implementation of short-term and medium-term goals to achieve the larger result.Contributing to the world, beyond focusing only on profits and the self, is a more certain way to achieve true happiness and fulfillment.Connect with Me and the Barrels and Business Community Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/barrelsandbusiness/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jadegreenau/Linkedin - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jadegreenauYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/JadeGreenWebsite: https://www.jadegreen.com.au/Connect with Kyle Probert Website: https://www.apthydraulics.com.au/Instagram: @apttrainingLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kyleprobert/?originalSubdomain=auMentioned resourcesThe Alliance https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JTJ84EW/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1Ideal Week Calendar https://lavendaire.lpages.co/ideal-week-planner/Ask for the Tour of Duty training support@jadegreen.com.auRevolwe https://www.revolwe.com/ Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. We choose who we want to be. Our past informs us, but it doesn't define who we are today. Too often we just react to things or go through the motions without really asking, "does this really serve me?"You are the only person that can make yourself feel significant.Recognize when you are doing things from an authentic place or if you're doing it for an ego boost."What I knew for sure was that I was a surfer, and the thing that brought me the most joy and made me feel the most me was surfing, and I hadn't been doing it for 17 years."If you're always on the road and looking for connections to people, video conference. It's way better for holding a human connection. We are not alive to grind away until we die. He who has the most toys doesn't win. Anthony Laye is one of Australia's most sought-after corporate speakers and entertainers. He is on a mission to help others overcome their fear of public speaking and presenting on camera. We have him with us today, sharing his journey and lessons he has learned along the way.Anthony and I met through Ombe. He may be a self-labeled "average" surfer, but he's a killer surf presenter who's been teaching the guys the presentation skills that are elevating Ombe to the next level. We launch with why Anthony's currently a landlubber. A surfing accident cracked a few vertebrae in his neck. The same techniques he uses to present–breathing exercises, mindset, and visualization– have been essential to navigating this injury and speeding recovery. It's wicked how sending positive energy and vibes can support you through an injury as serious as this one.Visualization and a positive mindset haven't just been critical to his healing. Anthony's applied these to improve his surfing and benefit his business as a corporate speaker. Tune in for his three keys to becoming a better public speaker. You can take the most boring, crappy topics and make a killer presentation by applying these three tips.So don't be grom. Listen: Key points14:29: What Anthony believes helped the incredible healing of his neck fractures16:24: Breathwork isn't hocus pocus; it can help you in a shit ton of ways27:09: The secret behind Anthony's true skill in life31:21: Tips on how you can communicate better in video35:32: Why is Anthony so positive? Key takeaways & quotesWe don't think much about how we breathe, but breath is so incredibly important. Think about what happens when you hold your breath. Are you relaxed and engaged with the universe, or tense and shutting down? Breathing right tunes your energy, helps you be in the flow and is healing."There isn't any person that wakes up and says to themselves, 'I hope today's really shit.'"Set your intention every day and before everything you do. Surfing? Stand on the shore and say you're going to have fun. Public speaking? Say you're going to make the audience laugh.Too many people forget the having fun bit of life. Let's have fun with what we're doing.Visualization is so key. The biggest thing is our mind doesn't believe we can do something. When we visualize, we're re-training our mind to make it believe we can.Every single time you go to speak, you have an opportunity to engage people. If they are not entertained, they're not going to listen. Keep them engaged! You could have the most boring topic in the world, but if you're a good presenter, who can create a story and engage people, everyone will be on board.Connect with Me and the Barrels and Business Community Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/barrelsandbusiness/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jadegreenau/Linkedin - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jadegreenauYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/JadeGreenWebsite: https://www.jadegreen.com.au/Connect with Anthony Laye Website: www.anthonylaye.comInstagram: @anthonylayespeakerLinkedIn: anthonylaye Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. Surprise! You asked to learn more about me, and I'm delivering. Tune in for my interview with Alexandra Joy at the second Superhuman Summit. My story is the epitome of rags to riches. I had it all: power suits, a sports car, and a million-dollar view of Sydney Harbor. But for all the $$ in the bank, my soul felt like it was being sucked into a meaningless black hole. When you understand that the wheel of working, grinding, and achieving is just a soul-sucking search for significance in all the wrong places, you know it's time to change.I walked away from the junk I thought I had to have to design the life I really wanted. I was honored to speak about manifestation, mindset, and the Mindvalley six-phase meditation practice at The Superhuman Summit: Science & Spirituality Series. This series is about how blending science and spirituality enables us to overcome the challenges we face in the world. Not only did I share my personal story, but we chatted about why happiness is the biggest hack to productivity. We are souls here having a human experience; we deserve more than grinding under fluorescent lights day in and day out.Hear about the resources that transformed my life, from the inspiring books to discovering the Mindvalley six-phase meditation practice.Your life is your choice. You, too, can manifest a life that brings you happiness and joy.So listen. Share what you got out of the episode. Are you listening?26:30: How do you even know if you're stuck on a hamster wheel? 31:10: Learning about Mindvalley's six-phase meditation practice38:10: How the meditation practice supports you to find and bring some good juju into your life47:15: Walking the talk: hear my 10-year vision and if I'm living my ideal day right now Key takeaways & quotes "My favorite quote, and one that I live by, comes out of the book Conversations with God. Life is a choice. It is what you choose, and you are in control."Put the soul back in control and you, and you're going to be far more successful. So many of us have forgotten what brings us joy. We've been shat all over, in life, in the corporate world, in the messages the world gives us. Grinding it isn't a badge of honor. Stop. Get to know yourself at the soul-level.Start tuning into your intuition. Give yourself permission, space, and time to feel inspired. Find ways to be quiet and reconnect with your body and what it's telling you. Write down the things you notice at the end of the day. Recognize the feelings you are having and the signs the universe is sending you.Reflect over the last year. Is there any time that the universe has kind of like tapped you on the shoulder and said, "you are not on the right course; I'm going to try and reconnect you?" When you don't get it, maybe it taps a little bit harder and harder.Do you think meditation isn't for you because your mind is so wired? That you can't sit there and think about nothing? Or maybe you don't want to be alone with your thoughts. I was the same way. Why would I want to be stuck with my crazy thoughts? That's why finding Mindvalley's meditation practice transformed my life."Negative self-talk and shit holds us back from being able to progress."Get off the hope-and-pray bandwagon. Manifest in action. Put it out to the universe, and you'll start to get ideas on how something could come about for you. It motivates you into action, and those actions are what make opportunities come. Realize that everybody else has their own soul's journey as well. We have to give them permission to do it; we can't take responsibility for everyone else's journey.Connect with Me and the Barrels and Business Community Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/barrelsandbusiness/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jadegreenau/Linkedin - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jadegreenauYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/JadeGreenWebsite: https://www.jadegreen.com.au/Mentioned resourcesWhat I know for sure by Oprah Winfrey: https://amzn.to/2XF4oZpConversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch: https://amzn.to/3igT8ft Mindvalley: https://www.mindvalley.comCode of the Extraordinary Mind: https://amzn.to/3oNBulRhttps://ilabforentrepreneurs.comMindvalley 6 Phase Meditation: https://www.jadegreen.com.au/6phaseSuperhuman Summit: https://beingmorehuman.com.au/human-power/ Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. It all hinges on delivering real value to the viewer. The art is how to format the video delivery, so they stick around and do what you want. Do you know why people bounce off your video? Hint: buying better camera equipment isn't the answer. And whatever you do, don't use a teleprompter! Hear about a few mistakes people make with their video marketing–chances are, you've made some before. Ken also gives tricks to make video marketing more manageable. The hardest part is getting started, but you have to pop that cherry. You also can't put off your video marketing for the last minute. We talk about building momentum and why your videos don't need to be perfect right out of the gate. Like surging, video marketing takes practice, people! So grab your camera, tune into Ken, and get ready to press record. When you're done listening in, you'll be raring to use these shortcuts and tricks that simplify and amplify your video marketing. Key points 9:44: Ken explains video marketing and its different applications18:51: Content is only king if you fit into a particular spectrum of video marketing. If that's you, you've got to create these "aha" moments to get people coming back for more.24:53: Advice on how to get started with video marketing using the Hilda Content System31:51: You need to get over the fact that you are not the most important person and to stop talking about yourself in video marketing. 40:19: The technique for getting someone to take action on your video. 44:56: You can't be in a marathon and start training the day before. You begin preparing way in advance. Do the same with your video marketing and promotion efforts. 48:33: Ken's take on going live versus pre-recording videos.53:59: Talking about the gear you need for video recording. The stuff isn't a pre-requisite for getting started. Just do the first video and get some momentum. 1:02:00: Ken's tip: use a virtual director to help guide your recorded videos. 1:05:33: Whatever you do, don't get a teleprompter.1:12:05: How Ken pivoted from his work putting on big stage speaking events to creating a business with video marketing.1:22:49: Making a pivot in his business. Key takeaways & quotes "If you don't give them the 'aha' moments, you'll be like the friendly cousin who's nice to hang out with. It gets kind of familiar, and it could fade off.""What most people don't understand is that content is a paint by numbers system. If you're constantly having to be creative, you will burn out.""The mindset is this: you want to get in and get out, get them hooked. This has to be fast because you have three seconds. That's how long it takes for people to decide if they're going to watch or not watch."Ken analyzes video metrics for cliffs and plateaus. Cliffs are when everybody's leaving every video because it's boring. Why do they leave at that moment? Plateaus are good! It's because what you're doing is magical, and people are hanging out for a long time. The more you talk about yourself, the less people are interested in you."As humans, our instinct is we'll do more for others than we will for ourselves. Like any day of the week, we're servants by nature. We want to help.""A lot of people, they treat business and content creation as if they started training the day before the marathon, and they expect to win.""There are no shortcuts or tricks to giving people value. You help people by actually helping people."Your first video is like pulling out of the driveway. Just getting started. You don't need a fancy editing team or to cut and splice. Get in first gear, build some momentum, and shift into the next gear when you're ready. So many of us aren't productive at work. We are passengers in our lives. Imagine the potential if more of us tapped into our motivators. What could we, as individuals and as teams, achieve? As you'll hear from Michelle, every single one of us has the capability to be superhuman. Yes, YOU do. But first, you have to embrace your humanity. To Michelle, being more human is about being more of who you were when you were born–compassionate, grateful, and inquisitive. We need to be okay with our humanity as a professional, to embrace vulnerability and authenticity. We all know it doesn't matter what the challenge is, whether it's approaching a bomb or getting your startup off the ground, having the right mindset is so key. Michelle's book Being More Human shows how the right mindset boosts productivity–and revenue. Michelle also dives into what self-leadership is. We are all superhumans in the making. We have so much untapped potential. Imagine what we could do if we harnessed just a small fraction more of that energy.Do you know what the single most important behavior is of exceptional leaders? Exercising every day. Why? Because you have discipline in your life. Are you getting enough sleep? So many people are sleep deprived, and sleep deprivation is a form of torture. How can you know if you're making the best decision or having the right conversations unless you are well-rested?"You can either program your mind in a way that's useful, constructive, healthy, and functioning, or you can program your mind in a way that's unhelpful, un-useful, and destructive."Learn how you are motivated. Is it from fear? That kind of motivation isn't sustainable. Take steps to change your motivation, so it becomes a life-long habit. "If you're not into self-awareness, you're not into human behavior, you're not into human potential. Then you never ever go in and reap the rewards of the kinds of results that we're talking about.""The leader has to grow and develop and evolve in order for the business to do the same thing.""One of the biggest challenges that we have in our society is not only do people not know how to be vulnerable with the person sitting beside them; they don't even know how to be vulnerable with themselves.""The majority of us are either denying the fact we have any shit in the first place or pretending, or we're pointing the finger at the other person because the other person's shit pile is higher than mine. From epic diving adventures to all the fun stuff, this is the perfect time to reconnect our diction with nature. We owe this worthiness and sense of boundless freedom by being truly committed to ourselves.“On a journey of self discovery and as we all are, and of course we are probably in one of the best times on the planet to be in self discovery and self evolution, so super happy. “Connecting with Nature (11:09)Discover the true essence of owning your time and grounding your priorities with nature. Create a value of self first to shift your reality. Giving time, effort and space for really nurturing yourself will change the order or things. Spend more time on things that you love to do. Immerse and be with nature for an overwhelming yet humbling experience.“Once you are committed to something that's gonna raise your vibration, allow you to become who you are as a human being, everything will shift around you to support it.” Dealing with the Soul Sucking Search for Significance (13:04)Don't get caught up with the habit of beating yourself and equating success with status and material things. Identify the predominant drive and set up morning practice of really doing some physical work to tune the mind. Create that consciousness that you're looking for and seize the day. “In the routine itself is the cleansing of the mind, it's awakening of the body, activating the body. It's getting into the body. It's an opportunity to sit quiet and meditate, to sit in nature and just be in absolute overwhelming gratitude for what is around us.”Blessing in Bankruptcy and Bouncing Back (21:57)The ego and life circumstance would greatly define how we perceive success. The constant struggle of absolute financial freedom can most often hinder us to truly see what's vital. Being stripped off from these material perceptions is a very humbling experience. This will enable us to dive deep into a spiritual rabbit hole of self inquiry. To be able identify what truly matters in life.“I got to a place with an ego that was so big that I couldn't see anything else.”Consumerism and Coronavirus (30:34)This mentality of greed and consuming more is the very reason why our planet is compromised. The sickness of the planet is significantly represented by this novel virus amidst our population. The world we know is now in a great pause to give us the time. A time to reflect and re-asses not just our lives, but also our business and everything it has built upon. “It's a great pause for our planet. What we can see is that the planet can work together, governments can work together like that. So if we actually want to save our planet… then we can… “Freedom X Festival and Future-Proofing Your Business (40:00)A discovery to freedom. Experience and break the system. Find yourself and get off from the routine. Have that business retrospection and identify skills that people can use on this shifting time. Future-proof businesses and redirect to a space that could add value.“Find a way of actually finding ourselves, our own personal freedom. But then finding a way of how we can set up a beautiful freedom of lifestyle.” Connect with Me and the Barrels and Business Community:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/barrelsandbusiness/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jadegreenau/Linkedin - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jadegreenauYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/JadeGreenWebsite: https://www.jadegreen.com.au/ Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022.
