Do you hesitate speaking up in meetings or spend too much time perfecting an email over the fear of committing grammatical errors or mispronouncing words? There's so much bad English everywhere—in mass media, social media, business correspondence, and even everyday conversations. With Taglish taking over as our lingua franca, AI doing all the writing, and the prevalent smart-shaming of English speakers, does being fluent and articulate in English and upholding high grammatical standards still hold weight? Can communicating clearly and confidently in English still level up your life and career?Tik Tok's “Grammar Nazi,” a.k.a “Pepe Word Smith” weighs in. With over 1 million followers on social media, he creates content to provide free, innovative, and unconventional English lessons to Filipinos. A former corporate executive for industry giants like HSBC, Globe Telecom, GCash, and Home Credit, he now does one-and-one English coaching, teaches courses in IELTS ( International English Language Testing System) proficiency and has a column in The Manila Times called “Grammarama.”

Hail, brothers! The Domain Query series is finally back, with an all-new episode, thanks to LRFotS Randale6, who wrote in with a long two-part question. The questions relate to my recent trip to Russia, and everything that I have seen and learned before and since. Here is what he asked - edited somewhat, due to my Grammar Nazi tendencies: The first question is pertinent to your recent vacation to Russia, have the Russians finally accepted and (we can hope) embraced the reality that they are Russian, not European, and not Asian? I do not mean this in the cruel sense of deriding the Russians as a barbaric race, rather I think of them as being the far eastern analogue to Texas...just bigger, colder, and to be blunt possessed of questionable cuisine (all hail the two truly homegrown American cuisines, Cajun and Tex-Mex). Over here in the USA Texas has never been ashamed of being Texas, it readily accepts the fact that it is its own little (alright, big) reality that doesn't quite play by the rules as the American South, Southwest, and Appalachia know them. But Russian history doesn't play out that way, it's never a good sign when your nobility can speak better French than Russian...and you keep doing it despite the frogs shitting on you whenever they see you (ditto for the rest of western Europe with regards to Russia). The second question relates to China. Simply put the Chinese have done something that they have never done since before the birth of Christ, that something being the alteration of their government. From the time of the first Emperor to the nomadic conquerors from over the wall the Chinese governmental model has stood firm, the only changes to it essentially being window dressing. Those days are now gone, in the place of the old dynasties stands the CCP (which should be renamed the Fascist Chinese Party if we are honest). The CCP has a problem, a threat that it cannot answer like the old dynasties did. That thorn in their side being the question of legitimacy. In the two millennia of dynastic rule all an Emperor had to do to remain legitimate was to keep China prosperous and stable. So long as he could do this the Emperor was legitimate, regardless of whatever bullshit his predecessors had cooked up. However, the CCP cannot partake of this Mandate of Heaven like the dynasties did. The CCP is built around ideology, not an Emperor. Just because Deng took over from Mao does not mean the former can abjure the latter as having lost the mandate of heaven, the ideological tenets of the CCP being an absolute commandments that cannot be challenged (formally) lest the foundations of the entire party crumble.  Simply put the CCP cannot come to terms with the fact that are no longer Communist, they are Fascists, hence such euphemisms as "Communism with Chinese Characteristics". What this does is force the party to live in a state of cognitive (and political) dissonance, a damaging state for both the individual and the party itself. With that in mind do you think that the CCP can overcome this internal contradiction? I answer these questions at length in the podcast. Basically, the answer to the first question is: YES, the Russians have rediscovered their ancient love of their own people, and their own deeply ingrained sense of national pride. The answer to the second is more complex, and there are a few misconceptions about the CPC that I need to clear up first. Essentially, the CPC faces a number of serious problems in China, and is working to address them by way of your typical engineering mindset - build, baby, build! This is not necessarily a sensible solution, because the problems confronting the CPC are quite severe structural ones, which they have failed to address for many years. But they are nowhere near as severe as what faces the West, and I believe the CPC enjoys far greater popular support than most Western commentators realise. As always, if you enjoy this podcast, be sure to like, share, comment, and especially subscribe. Protect Yourself From Big Tech I make some pretty incendiary statements in this podcast, and in most of my podcasts. I can only do so because I take steps to protect myself from the Big Tech companies, and preserve my identity. You need to do the same – this is no longer optional, because if you don't, the gatekeepers WILL come for your head. If you don't know where to start, then I've got you covered right here with this post. Here are the specific steps that you can take: Make sure that your web traffic is safe and protected from prying eyes using a VPN – click here to get a massive 80% OFF on a 24-month subscription with Surfshark; Be sure also to check out Incogni, the new data and privacy management tool offered by Surfshark, which simply works behind the scenes to ensure that no malign actors can take advantage of your data ever again; Another solid VPN option for you is Atlas VPN, brought to you by the same company that creates NordVPN; The best SSD drive that you can get right now, with blazing fast speeds and near-native storage capabilities, is probably the SanDisk Extreme 1TB Portable SSD with NVMe technology – I bought this myself to keep a moving backup of all of my files, it's the size of a credit card, and it's absolutely superb; Build Your Platform Get yourself a proper domain for your site or business with Namecheap; Put your site onto a shared hosting service using A2Hosting for the fastest, most secure, and stable hosting platform around – along with unlimited email accounts of unlimited size; Create beautiful websites with amazing, feature-rich content using Divi from Elegant Themes; Stand for Western Civilisation Buy yourself a proper Bible; Get your Castalia Library books here; Buy yourself a proper knife for personal defence;

Gaming the Iron Curtain: Computer Games in Communist Czechoslovakia as Entertainment and Activism

Based on the recent book Gaming the Iron Curtain, this lecture will outline the idiosyncratic and surprising ways in which computer hobbyists in Cold War era Czechoslovakia challenged the power of the oppressive political regime and harnessed early microcomputer technology for both entertainment and activism. In the 1970s and 1980s, Czechoslovak authorities treated computer and information technologies as an industrial resource rather than a social or cultural phenomenon. While dismissing the importance of home computing and digital entertainment, they sponsored paramilitary computer clubs whose ostensible goal was to train expert cadres for the army and the centrally planned economy. But these clubs soon became a largely apolitical, interconnected enthusiast network, where two forms of tactical resistance could be identified. First, the clubs offered an alternative spaces of communal hobby activity, partially independent of the oppression experienced at work or at school. The club members’ ambitious DIY projects often substituted for the deficiencies of the state-controlled computer industry. Hobbyists not only built joysticks and programmed games, but also introduced new standards for data storage and ran large-scale bottom-up education programs. Second, especially in the late 1980s, local authors started making games that were openly subversive. Several anti-regime text adventure games were made in 1988 and 1989, including The Adventures of Indiana Jones on Wenceslas Square, January 16, 1989, which pitted the iconic Western hero against riot police during an anti-regime demonstration. These games rank among the world’s earliest examples of activist computer games. About Jaroslav Švelch Jaroslav Švelch is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bergen and assistant professor at Charles University, Prague. He is the author of the monograph Gaming the Iron Curtain: How Teenagers and Amateurs in Communist Czechoslovakia Claimed the Medium of Computer Games (MIT Press, 2018). He has published research on history and theory of computer games, on humor in games and social media, and on the Grammar Nazi phenomenon. His work has been published in journals including New Media & Society, International Journal of Communication, or Game Studies, and in anthologies published by Oxford University Press, Bloomsbury and others. He is currently researching history, theory, and reception of monsters in games.

#183: Ralph And Carol Lynn Say: Hyphens Ain’t The Boss Of Us!

Carbon Based Business Units

Play Episode Listen Later May 7, 2017 44:26

Genius In A Bottle We started this episode with an overview of the few things we wanted to talk about. But before we jumped in I had a brilliant idea to share with Ralph that I wanted him to hear for the first time while we were on mic. The other day as I was working out on the elliptical and listening to the Make It Snappy Productivity Show with Nick Snapp, I noticed that Nick refers to his listeners as “Snappy Nation.” And that’s when it struck me that you, Fred, are rulers of a very special domain. And yours is called… Carbonation! Get it? And don’t you love the idea of being fizzy and zesty and full of energy with a total excitement for life? My genius on full display. I’m so proud of myself for this little revelation that it’s kind of embarrassing. Nick Snapp Throws The Gauntlet Back On our first episode of Carbon Based Business Units, otherwise known as episode 181, we challenged Nick Snapp (he’s getting pretty famous at this point, don’t you think?) to tell us why he always says that he wants to grow his business to be a $2-5-million-dollar business. On episode 114 of his show, Nick answers us. You’ll have to listen to it to find out why (hey, we don’t do spoilers!) but he did issue a challenge of his own. And what Nick wanted to know from us was: why didn’t we put a hyphen between Carbon and Based? According to rules of grammar, a compound adjective of the Carbon-Based variety definitely needs a hyphen. Well, after he threw my inner grammar nerd into a snit, I Googled it to find out if I had to use the hyphen. I mean, in a world where I can use the word literally to mean not literally, could I get away without the hyphen? Nope, not according to the internets. Once it was clear that we were breaking grammar rules, I thought about it for a bit and decided hey, I’m no Grammar Nazi! I can break rules if I want to. But it nagged a bit, so I thought well, if I ask Michael our creative director to change it – again – he’ll probably shoot me. But finally I decided that since our very existence – our raison d’ être if you will – depends on us challenging the status quo, it would be remiss of us to succumb to something as banal as a grammar rule just to say we followed the book. We don’t want a hyphen. It doesn't look very cool. And thus the hyphen is being completely and deliberately ignored. Because hyphens ain’t the boss of us! A Bit Of Oddball Business Advice Recently Ralph was having a conversation with a fellow entrepreneur who asked Ralph to give him a bit of business advice – but the requirement was that it couldn’t be remotely like any of the usual advice. You know, get up early, do yoga, all the stuff that makes it onto all the lists. So Ralph dropped this knowledge bomb: go buy an electric toothbrush and a metal tongue scraper. Ralph bought a brand new electric toothbrush recently, the Oral B Genius Pro 8000, and he’s a big fan. He’s got me using it now, too. It comes with different heads for different purposes, like plaque removal and whitening. Since we both drink a lot of tea and coffee (and one of us has a love affair with red wine), it helps us restore our less-than-pearly whites. It’s a pretty awesome toothbrush and within days of starting to use it, our teeth were noticeably whiter. And that’s cool but… how does that relate to business? The answer is: appearance. In our travels and business ventures we’ve met with a lot of people who are less than hygienic. Stink breath, sloppy clothes, nothing particularly appealing. They don’t exactly exude the kind of image you’re looking for in a business colleague. And we’re not being judge-y, but it does matter. Appearance matters. How you are perceived, especially upon meeting someone, matters. The Professional Pajama Wearer A friend recently asked Ralph to critique the intro to her new podcast. And in it, she mentioned being a professional pajama wearer. Well, Ralph thought that wasn’t a good impression to make, especially since sitting around in her pajamas is not her M.O. So why give people that impression? Why imply that you’re perhaps lazy or not-quite-so-professional? Ralph thinks she was just trying to be “cute” but the result was to diminish her work ethic. So she changed it to “bacon lover” which is still kind of weird but at least doesn’t conjure images of her sitting in her basement wearing a hairnet or something. Now, if you really do sit around working in your pajamas and that’s your thing, and you’re looking to use it as part of your image to attract a certain type of client, then go for it. But for a person like our friend who is looking to portray herself as a professional, she was doing herself a disservice. Portray an image that says, "I respect myself therefore I will respect you." If you don’t look like you can take care of yourself, why would clients believe you can take care of them? Homework Take a look in the mirror! How do you present yourself to your clients, prospects, colleagues?  What’s your hygiene ritual? Do you pay attention to the impression you make? The Google Doc Scam If you’re like one of the billion zillion of us who got sucked into the Google phishing scam recently, then you know what happened. If not, lucky you! A scam circulated like wildfire last week where an email appeared to come from someone you knew with a request to view a Google doc. And when you clicked the link, it then asked for permission to access your account, like many apps do. But once you gave it permission it then took over your contact list and sent the same email to everyone in your address book. Well, Ralph received that scam email and the timing couldn’t have been worse. Normally he’s on top of these things, but it just so happens that it’s the end of the semester at the college where he teaches and he was expecting his students to send him their final projects. So when he received an email appearing to come from one of his students, he clicked it, thinking she was submitting her final assignment. And once the scammers had access to his contacts, the same scam email went out to them. On the plus side, after years of preaching to friends and colleagues about the dangers of scam emails and warning about clicking on links, a bunch of people contacted Ralph to ask if the email was legitimate before clicking. So it was nice to see that! The other fortunate thing is that the day before this all happened, we’d decided to start using two-factor authentication for our accounts. More on that in a minute, but the good news is that even with “permission” the scammers couldn’t actually take over Ralph’s account beyond simply sending out an annoying email. So. What’s with the two-factor thing? Trust me, you want to know. Two-Factor Authentication Security is not getting any better. These things happen every day. So you have to protect yourself. And in spite of big scary words like “two-factor authentication”, it’s not hard to do. Two factor authentication is actually quite simple. It means that in order to log into your account, you need two things. One is a password, and the other is “something else”. That something else is typically a code. So to log into your account, say your Gmail, you enter your password and then Google sends you a super secret code via text (or you can use an app). Then you enter the code and that’s it. So even if someone knows or illegitimately obtains your password, they still can’t access your account because they can’t get the code. The cool thing about the code is that it expires after about 30 seconds, so even if that code ends up floating around, it would be useless after a few seconds anyway. It’s so easy to set up. And it’s free. If you have a phone with text, there’s no reason you can’t easily set up two-factor and save yourself from the nightmare of someone getting your password and getting into your account. Just go into the security settings of your account, look for it by name, and follow the (very super ridiculously simple) instructions. It’s too easy not to do. Sadly, there are a lot of websites that don’t use it. Surprisingly, I found out that my banks don’t. Nor do my credit cards! You’d think they would be at the top of the list when it comes to locking down your accounts. I couldn’t even find it for my QuickBooks account. But Google does, and so does Facebook, so at a minimum, start there. Here’s an example of two-factor authentication in real life. When you go to a restaurant and hand over your credit card to pay for dinner, that is the first factor. When you sign it, that’s the second. And we know full well what the consequence is of paying without signing. We’ve had our debit and credit card numbers stolen more times than we can count when we’ve been on the road and used our cards at convenience stores and gas stations that don’t require a signature. There’s been a bit of a crackdown on that recently, but it just goes to show that two “proofs” that you're for real are better than one. My Password Is… Actually neither Ralph nor I have any idea what any of our 700-odd passwords are. That’s because we use a password manager that automatically generates and secures the passwords for us. So we don’t have to remember them. We don’t have to worry about where they are. And whether we’re on our computers or on our phones, it’s easy to log into any account safely. If you don’t use a password manager, if you’re one of those people who use the same basic password for everything because you can’t remember so many, if you’ve got any password on a sticky note on your computer monitor… check out any one of the myriad password managers. We’ve used Passpack for a long time, but it’s a pain on mobile. So we recently switched to 1Password and so far we love it, especially how easy it is to use on the phone, where it can be annoying to try to type in a password all the time. They’re all super cheap or even free and there’s no reason to remember – or even know – your passwords ever again. More Homework! What password manager do you use? And if you don’t, why not? And I know what the excuse is going to be if you don’t. “Because it’s inconvenient.” But which is more inconvenient: taking that extra two seconds to set up your password manager and using it to log into your accounts, or dealing with someone stealing your password, getting into your accounts, stealing your money or even your identity? What Did We Learn? I’m a genius. ‘Nuf said. And you should be listening to the Make It Snappy Productivity Show. We learned that we do judge a book by its cover, so how you present yourself at first glance is important. Plus, your security chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Don’t be that weak link! Go get yourself a password manager and start using two-factor authentication. And finally, if you have a Mailchimp account and enable two-factor authentication, they’ll give you 10% off your monthly payments. That’s how important they think your security is. We only wish everyone else did, too! Next Time In Carbonation We talk about why we just spent a bunch of money on a third computer for Ralph. Sounds like a dumb decision. Stay tuned! How do you write intensely curious headlines—even if a deadline is looming. When writing headlines, you often get stuck. Can grammar come to the rescue when under pressure? Find out how grammar class helps you write outstanding headlines in a jiffy. --------- In this episode Sean talks about Part 1: What has grammar got to do with writing headlines. Part 2: Why you need to break up your headline writing process Part 3: What’s the one thing you can implement today in your headlines You can read this online here: https://www.psychotactics.com/headlines-three-ways/ --------- Every year, 20 billion bottles of wine are produced. And 80% of those bottles are closed with a single substance. A substance called cork. The cork, as you’d suspect, comes from bark of the cork tree The bark has to be harvested, and then you get the cork for those 16 billion bottles. But there’s no hurrying the process of cork production. A tree must be at least 25 years old before the bark can be harvested. After that, it can be stripped of its bark every nine years. Even so, the first stripping is totally unsuitable for wine and used only for industrial purposes. The second stripping still lacks the quality needed. It may take well over 40 years before the cork is considered good enough to put into a wine bottle. As you can see, a cork tree can’t be rushed. Good headlines too need a little time. But in today’s world, we need headlines for our newsletters, podcast titles, webinars, and workshops. But is it really possible to turn out a great headline almost immediately? Or do we have to wait? What we’ll cover in this article is the concept of headlines in a hurry. We’ll learn three ways to write great headlines and to write them under pressure. But we’ll have fun, and instead of just learning three ways, we’ll go back to grammar class. Method 1: Headlines with AND Method 2: Headlines with EVEN Method 3: Headlines with WITHOUT Method 1: Headlines With AND Remember Windows 3.1? I sure do. I was a cartoonist still living in Mumbai, India at the time. And that’s when I got my first computer. It was a 386 and top of the line with programs such as Corel Draw and Photoshop. Right before I got the computer I would go through the tedious task of drawing a cartoon, photocopying it several times and then colouring each version. Clients wanted to see the same cartoon rendered in different colours and I’d spend trips back and forth to the photocopy shop. Let’s say I got to know the photocopy guy quite well. But it also wasted a lot of my day Then along came Windows 3.1 and I was able to scan and then colour my cartoons in under half an hour. From paper to the computer was my big leap forward when it came to cartoons. And yet several years later when I moved over from cartoons to copywriting, I struggled a lot with writing headlines. Every time I sat down to write headlines, I’d get the blue screen of death in my brain. Until the day I figured out the incredible power of AND in moving a headline forward. AND? When writing a headline, all you have to do is add the conjunction AND and your headline seems to dart forward. Let’s take a few examples, shall we? How to raise your freelance rates How to raise your freelance rates (and get a greater number of clients) How to create magic with your brand stories How to create magic with your brand stories—and engage new readers every time you publish How to keep fit over age 55 How to keep fit over age 55 (and still eat everything you want) What did we notice with those AND headlines? The first was the sheer simplicity of the headline. We start the headline as if it’s going to be a really short one. e.g. How to raise your freelance rates. Then as an afterthought, we add the AND. What this tends to do is give your headline more oomph. The first part of the headline, without the AND is good enough, yet the second part allows the headline to move your client forward. Which is why the AND headline has a far greater curiosity factor than the headline without the conjunction. When writing AND headlines I use the parenthesis or the em dash The em dash is the long dash, used when you seem to be breaking a thought mid-flow. It seems like you’ve already finished with the thought. For example: How to create magic with your brand stories. Then suddenly the em dash shows up out of nowhere talking about “new readers”. It’s brought in a new thought—a much richer thought. Now your headline reads as: How to create magic with your brand stories—and engage new readers every time you publish. But you don’t always have to use the em dash You can just use the parenthesis instead. The parenthesis does something similar to the em dash. It creates a continuation of the thought, and the client feels a greater tug towards the AND type of headline. Visually too, the headline is more arresting. When you look at the headlines side by side, or even in your inbox, the second headline seems to say a lot more. But because there’s the em dash or the parenthesis, it’s like you’re getting some breathing space as the reader. If you wondered why you had to sit in boring grammar class, well, now you know. You’re in headline grammar class, and you just found out how to use AND, em dashes and parentheses to good effect. Like Windows 3.1 (bless its soul) which got me from a bit of a struggle to super-fast execution, you too can build a headline in next to no time by using the AND. But is there a good way of using the AND type of headline successfully? Sure there is. The best way to use the AND headline well is to write the first part. e.g. How to write irresistible calls to action. Then you walk away. Your headline is already super-yummy. But when you come back, several hours later, your brain will have something to add to the headline. So your headline will read like this: How to write irresistible calls to action (and increase CTR by 30%). The space between writing the first and second part of the headline isn’t necessary, but it does make for better headlines. Keeping a break between activities helps your brain hum in the background and come up with a far superior idea than if you simply jumped on the first possible idea that comes to your head after using AND. Ok, first part of grammar class is done. Let’s go to adverb land; the land of EVEN. Method 2: Headlines with EVEN I’d never heard of the comedian called Michael Jr. Then one day, I’m lying on the sofa time scrolling through Facebook and this video pops up. In the video, Michael Jr. is talking about how comedy works. And here’s what he says: This is how it works First, there’s a setup, and then there’s a punch line. The set up is when a comedian uses his talents and resources to seize any opportunity to ensure that his audience is moving in the same direction. The punchline occurs when he alters that direction in such a way that was not anticipated by the audience. He’s talking about the adverb Yup, Michael Jr. doesn’t know it, but he’s just given a quick grammar lesson. And that’s precisely the grammar lesson you can use in your headlines by using the adverb, “EVEN.” When you use EVEN in your headline, you’re doing what Michael Jr. is talking about. You’re taking the audience in a specific direction—and then moving them to the punchline, which isn’t quite anticipated by the audience. Hah, you’re eager for grammar lesson No.2, aren’t you? Well here goes: How to rank high on Bing How to rank high on Bing (even with low Google rankings) Why you should raise your freelance rates Why you should raise your freelance rates (even if you’re not sure you’re worth it) How to quit your day job How to quit your day job (even if you’re cash strapped) How to travel First Class How to travel First Class (even if You’re dead broke) See the setup and the punchline? It’s everywhere, you know, this setup and punchline. When you read The Brain Audit, you have the concept of the problem and the solution. That’s a setup and punchline. When you look at nature, you notice a branch, then a twig. A snowflake has the same set up and punchline. And of course, when we go to headline land, the adverb EVEN creates a powerful punchline. It brings out that extra bit of information that you’re simply not expecting. And in doing so, it gets and keeps your attention. Just like the AND, it helps to use the parentheses or the em dash And just like the AND, there’s no rule (at least that I know of) whether you use the em dash or the parenthesis. Just be sure to use it because it creates that setup and punch line both visually and intellectually. Visually you can see there’s a separation, but intellectually you see that extra bit showing up. And you weren’t particularly expecting the headline to go in such a weird direction, were you? So remember: set up, punchline. That’s the power of EVEN. We’ve covered AND and EVEN. Should we go to the third grammar lesson? Let’s head to WITHOUT, which happens to masquerade as a preposition adverb and conjunction. Even if you can’t remember where it sits on the grammar hierarchy, WITHOUT does a pretty cool job when you’re tired of using AND and EVEN. Let’s find out how. Method 3: Headlines with WITHOUT To write a headline with WITHOUT, all you have to consider is the opposite. And you can do it with random headlines. How to raise your prices How to raise your prices without losing clients How to raise your prices without increasing the quantity of product How to raise your prices without considering the competition How to raise your prices without the accompanying fear factor When you write a WITHOUT headline, guess what you’re really doing Yup, you’re bringing up the objection in your head. Notice the second part of the headlines? They brought out the fear of losing clients, of needing to increase the quantity of product, the fear of competition and yes, the fear of fear itself. All of these are obvious objections to your premise or article. So what’s a grammar headline writer to do? Why it’s perfectly simple, isn’t it? All you really need to do is write some sort of headline and then think of all the reasons why it’s not a good idea. Or at least why you’d have some objections to that idea. Let’s take an overly simple headline like: How to lose weight in two weeks. What are the objections to losing weight? – You’re a foodie – You don’t want to go on a crazy diet – You don’t care about exercise And then you slappity-slap on the objections to the first part of the headline. Ready? How to lose weight in two weeks (without giving up your foodie habits) How to lose weight in two weeks (without going on a crazy diet) How to lose weight in two weeks (without needing to exercise endlessly) And there you have it—WITHOUT comes to the rescue. Isn’t grammar wonderful? We should really do a summary, but what would we cover? We already know the three methods to make our headline stand out. All it takes is just three parts of the grammar universe: AND, EVEN and WITHOUT. AND gets your headline moving boldly forward, EVEN does this little setup and punchline trick and WITHOUT, WITHOUT is all about objections. See, those Grammar Nazis were right. You should pay attention your grammar because even if your brain feels like it’s running on Windows 3.1, you’ll still be able to turn out super-curious headlines. So what’s the ONE thing we can implement today? Remember the advice you got about writing part of the headline first and then going away? Well, here’s a reminder. You may be so very excited at your proficiency at grammar class that you may forget to take that break. Leaving that task unfinished ensures that your brain brings up (and rejects) many options. Eventually, when you go back to your headline, you’re likely to get a far superior headline than just the first one you think up. Put space between all activities. This article was written over a period of three days. The outline on one day, part of the article on another and finally the article was completed on the third. And only after these three days, did it go for an edit. A headline may seem almost puny when compared with an article, but letting the brain relax helps you get a far superior output. And that’s pretty much it. Grammar lesson over. School’s out. Special Bonus: Why Headlines Fail In under 7 minutes you’ll be able to go through a system that shows you: • How to write headlines that get results every time • Why you don’t have to be a copywriter to write headlines • How to construct headlines, without making a complete mess of things.
