Friends, a great professor of mine at Mundelein Seminary, Dr. Richard Issel, once said, “If you want to be happy, stop worrying about being happy and get on with becoming fulfilled.” We find something similar in Jordan Peterson's observation that “self-consciousness is equivalent to misery.” In short, we're most unhappy when we're turned inward, fussing about ourselves. If you want to be psychologically healthy, forget about yourself and move out toward others. I always think of this when I come across our Gospel for today from the great Sermon on the Mount.

The inquest into the death of Belfast teenager Noah Donohoe is continuing. On Monday one witness testified she heard a “high-pitched scream” near to where Noah's remains were found - on the night he went missing. Another said she was awoken by a noise at her back door of the handle being tried in the early hours of the morning. On Tuesday, the jury heard Noah's mother Fiona Donohoe had bought Noah a book by Jordan Peterson and that he had not put it down all week. Like Dr. Jalal, I was curious about many things I didn't understand, but my path didn't start with neuroscience or learning science, which came later for me. We all begin somewhere.
