Morey gives us his thoughts on the strengths the C's have to beat the Warriors, but also the areas they need to perform better in. We hit the road yet again this week, but this time Will took his beer reviews to a different continent! Will gives us the recap on a week in Dubai, including his review of Kingfisher Premium Lager. Humble brag, he did drink it on the top of the world's largest building, which may have gave it a couple of notches of a higher rating. Brought to you by The Real Voice - Mel Allen. Providing voice over for commercials, podcasts, explainer videos, and more. Samples and demos at https://therealvoice.com I tweeted at Pints and Panels today to see if there were any Girl Scout Cookie and Beer Pairings to recommend - and it's coming in March! I'll do my best to keep you informed as my cookies just dropped and I might try some pairings as I have heard Samoas pair well with a Brown Ale, S'mores with a Peanut Butter Chocolate Stout, and Shortbread aka Trefoil with Sours or Pale Ales - but I have not tried myself yet. If you have some good pairings, let me know on Twitter https://twitter.com/The_Boozebuddy Anyway - on to the stories - which prompted this pairing to begin with! Snacks are good, beer is good - but some complement each other really well. So get your game face on for this weekend and if you don't have good recipes yet for your Super party get things moving. From Pretzels, Spinach dip, and wings to Maibock, Stouts, and Saisons it's going to help you really enjoy the day - whether or not your team pulls through or isn't in the game. https://food52.com/blog/15710-10-beer-and-food-pairings-for-the-big-game The next one is a bit of a Valentine's pairing, but for those who just aren't into the wines. This one is for the Scotch and chocolate lovers - a wonderful level of indulgence that makes my mouth water just thinking about it! This is a bit of an old list - but I couldn't find one that went across several brands and types that was updated and, honestly, this one just seems like it's so much more of a complete list. Head over to et the run down https://scotchwhisky.com/magazine/food/18340/10-ways-to-pair-chocolate-with-whisky/ And now for something completely different - The University of Southern Maine (USM) Foundation has received a $100,000 gift from Maine Beer Company to create a unique Brewing Up Opportunity Internship & Scholarship Fund. The gift establishes a pilot program for USM students that includes a paid internship with Maine Beer Company and a scholarship award of up to $5,000 per academic year upon completion of the internship. The program's goal is to promote diversity and inclusion within the craft beverage industry by providing access to education, on-the-job training, and mentoring to help develop a new generation of beer industry professionals. That's verbatim from the press release you can read at https://usm.maine.edu/publicaffairs/maine-beer-company-gift-creates-brewing-opportunity-program-usm Next Time: Tomorrow we'll go Another Round with the Eco-Friendly Beer Drinker - make sure to tune in! Due to a blowout wedding, a visit to Pittsburgh, and - let's face it - poor planning, the guys decided it was as good a week to revisit a conversation had nearly a year ago with a brewing idol-turned-highly respected peer.... Dan Kleban, founding brother/brewer/owner of Maine Beer Company!Dan and Noah delve into their respective homebrewing roots, influences, and initial attraction to the balance that defines beer-making; Dan talks about the major career pivots both he and his brother undertook to make their business a reality, and outlines a shockingly-recent dystopian past in which tasting rooms did not exist;  and Matty discusses the many ways he's been  both inspired and driven to action by MBC's commitment to the planet. It's been said before and will be said again, but this really is on the shortlist for most cherished  interviews the podcast has enabled. Bois & Bar Talk

Today, on the second episode of Bois & Bar Talk Season 4, we are drinking Lunch by Maine Beer Company. We're getting the ball rolling now and you better know we've been stacking up beer choices for this season! Lunch is an IPA that you could drink at any time of the year. It's a popular one out there, and we found out what the name “Lunch” actually means. It's a special whale that was spotted off the Maine coast in 1982. The whale looks like it carries a bite mark on the fin.  Overall, Kev really wanted to try this one on the podcast. We bought a few 16 oz bottles and poured them in a glass. Lunch has a 7% ABV with tropical flavors such as orange, grapefruit, and has a malt sweetness to it. There is definitely some intense hops going on, but the finishing taste isn't very bitter at all.  On Beer Advocate, Lunch has a score of 97/100. We both agreed that the beer was excellent and had no complaints other than availability. It's a hard beer to find for us, and when we do, it's going to be on the expensive side. How We Rated Lunch Rob's Rating: 8.5/10 Kev's Rating: 8.3/10 We kick off the show reminding everyone to check out the website Boisandbartalk.com to check out all of our episode posts. We do show notes and ratings for every beer and every episode. During Lunch, we kicked off the episode with a first sip and review of the beer. One of the first topics we got into was customer service (a popular rant). We talked about the standard 20% average tip and if it's enough. Kev's been in the restaurant business for most of his adult life, so he's used to it. Rob on the other hand, can't stand job with customer service. Have you ever thought about what a world with no money would feel like? We touched on transitioning to a life of digital currency. Why do we feel more emotion when money leaves us when it's cash? For example, Rob said if he's down in the stock market it won't really bother him. But if a gust of wind happened to blow a few hundred dollars away, he'd be tight about it. We transitioned into talking about bedbugs and how you can spot them. Commonly bedbugs are associated with a sleazy hotel. If you ever sleep in the bed of a hotel be sure not to lay down on the bed cover. They never wash that! Looking for more? If you would like to support the show, take a look at our Patreon page. Also, with Patreon you can support us financially so we can at least break even on our expenses, expand faster, and keep exploring new drinks!  Cheers!

Maine Beer Co was founded in 2009 during the financial crisis, a challenging time for attorneys such as Dan Kleban. Having witnessed the ugly underbelly of capitalism, Dan and his brother Dave sought to build a brewery that could be successful by maintaining a moral approach to sustainability. The company sought success not through rapid growth and expansion, rather by treating the environment and his employees well, creating a virtuous cycle.  Anne Marisic, the Director of Marketing and Communication, highlights how she discovered Maine Beer Co and the pull that compelled her to partake in their mission. She points out that small, intentional, daily steps combined with long term strategic efforts - such as applying for grants - have allowed Maine Beer Company to take big steps towards its goals of reducing its environmental footprint. We discuss the sensibilities and inspiration behind the appearance, aroma, and flavors of Maine Beer Co’s beers. Guiding principles extend to packaging; bottle conditioning, iconic, thick brown glass half liter bottles and concise branding stand out on the shelves. Mainstays such as Woods and Waters, Peeper and Lunch are named for initiatives linked to 1% For The Planet, an organization and business network central to Maine Beer Co’s environmental stewardship efforts. Success resulting from critical acclaim for the beers looks are plain to see. Dan also discusses the overlap of Maine Beer Company’s environmental work and equity, diversity and inclusion. While the Brewers Association - of which the Chair of the Associate Board of Directors - is working to address social justice, members, regardless of their beliefs, should start by setting a good example. “If you care about the environment you care about equity.” Find Maine Beer Co. They say to never meet your heroes, but this week proves that's poor advice. Dan Kleban, co-founder of Maine Beer Company, sits down with Noah and Matty. After some initial gushing about how generous Dan and his brother Dave were to get Noah and Pete into MBC's first space, the conversation shifts to the Dan's early experiences with beer (Sierra Nevada strikes again) and what laid the groundwork for what continues to be MBC's philosophy on the beer-making side of the business. Dan and Noah also get into their mutual roots as homebrewers and (early) brewing podcast listeners, as both Substance and Zoe begun their existence as thinly-veiled clone recipes. After discussing collaboration beers and the similar reasons both MBC and BBB do them less than most, things shift to Dan and his brewery's commitment to the environment. He talks about his inspiration for being a part of 1% For the Planet from the very start of his business, why customers are smarter than they are often given credit for, and the inertia that comes when you "Do What's Right". This fun, informative, and inspiring conversation with one of Noah and Matty's Dream Team brewers was simply a joy, and if anyone out there is looking for a role model, head to Route 1 in Freeport............ ........................ .................. ......................... .................. ........................ ....................... ........Music: "Mountain Climb" by Jake Hill

Maine Beer Co. was started with a goal to "Do What's Right" Dan Kleban and his brother David founded Maine Beer Company with a single recipe and the goal to "Do What's Right."  That mantra carries through in every aspect of running their business from the beer they brew, to employee relations, and how they support and give back to their community. Dan joins us this week to talk about that philosophy and the passion he has to see it through.  We enjoy a few Maine Beer Company beers as the conversation moves on to a discussion about the collapse of DME, a large brewing equipment manufacturer, and how that could be a nail in the coffin for some new brewers.  Of course, we talk about brewing hoppy and balanced beers and teaching craft beer neophytes that hoppy and bitter are not the same thing.  Dan also shares his passion for environmental causes and how their pledge to 1% For The Planet supports those causes, as well as the impact that brewing with local ingredients has on our environment. [caption id="attachment_45659" align="aligncenter" width="800"] While most of Maine Beer Co.'s beers are meant to be enjoyed fresh, our 2106 King Titus Porter was still drinking very well.  Hops had faded but it still delivered big roasty and chocolatey notes. Meanwhile, the company’s two flagship brands — Bud Light and Budweiser — continue to lose volume although both still rank among the top five Brewery Openings on the Rise in Major U.S. Population Centers, BA ReportsU.S. cities with populations in excess of 5 million have seen the most percentage growth of brewery openings in the past five years, according to Brewers Association chief economist Bart Watson. In an email to Brewbound, Watson explained that the growth in the number of breweries in the U.S.’s largest cities is partially due to those locations playing “catch-up” with the rest of the country.Watson’s data — including an interactive map — revealed that eight metro areas are now home to more than 100 breweries.Leading the way is Chicago, with 167 breweries. Interviewed Chet Brett (Brand Manager) from Tribes Brewing Co. in Mokena, IL - Chicago area– they are doing well and selling a lot of beer.Trailing Chicago are long-time beer meccas and other major population centers, including Denver (158), Seattle (153), San Diego (150), Los Angeles (146), New York (141), Portland, Oregon (139), and Philadelphia (113).The last time Watson charted the data — in 2013 — Seattle’s 87 breweries were the most in the nation. Chicago ranked fifth that year with 62 breweries, trailing Portland, Oregon (77), San Diego (76) and Denver (63).Rankings are fleeting, however, as more breweries open their doors and shutter. According to the BA, 7,000 breweries were in operation as of the end of October, with potentially as many as 1,000 openings in 2018. Meanwhile, Watson told Brewbound earlier this year that he anticipates as many as 300 brewery closures by the end of 2018, as the gap between openings and closings begins to converge.News courtesy of Brewbound (https://www.brewbound.com/)Subscribe to Craft Beer Storm Podcast iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/craft-beer-storm/id1438117278?mt=2Michael Potorti is the Host of Craft Beer Storm and Founder/Brewer at Beara Brewing Co. in Portsmouth, NHMichael PotortiFounder/BrewerHost of "Craft Beer Storm" Podcastmichael@craftbeerstorm.commichael@bearairishbrew.com*** Come visit our brewery for some delicious local craft brew! ***Beara Brewing Co.2800 Lafayette RoadPortsmouth, NH 03801Tel. Podcast 34: The Maine Event! We're all back together and we're gonna hit it hard with some segments and anniversary parties! Abjuration and Cinderlands both celebrated 1 year this week! Shout out to @canspgh - follow them on instagram! They're posting all the can releases from local breweries so follow along and get some cans! This week's brewery of the week is Maine Beer Company! Fairly new to Pittsburgh, but you can find them at all the great spots around Pittsburgh and in Boston. Alex did his research and found out some very cool things they're a part of and how they've developed their brand. Beers: Lunch - IPA 7.0% (Jake) Another One - IPA 7.0% (Nick/Alex) Obviously we discuss the can [bottle] design and the simplicity is incredibly appealing and extremely recognizable. “Do What's Right” is Maine's motto and we discuss what that means and how they're part of the 1% to the Planet non-profit organization. Nick and Sara went to Cinderlands for their can release on Sunday after their 1 year anniversary Pajama Party on Saturday. They were first in line, btw. We discuss the can design and the anniversary glasses, which we're in love with. Saturday night Nick and Sara hit up Abjuration in McKees Rocks. If you haven't been, you need to get there. Really cool spot with super unique beers and a cool mix of independent brewing and the theatre in the building. Beers: RBWv1.1 - Rice Barleywine - 11% MIPAv1.0 - Milkshake IPA - 7.3% BA-RW v1.2 - Barrel Aged Rye Barleywine - 11.7% Abjuration still has cans of both the RBW and MIPA available. Alex wanted to make this an ASMR episode by eating a cucumber very close to the mic. So we're sorry. Sara and Nick give their reviews of the anniversary beers from Abjuration. Alex adds in his experience with Milkshake IPAs. In the mix with the milkshake IPAs we hit on Grist House's Kaboom Kandy series and how we're excited to try Kapow Kandy. Jake tells us the story of his most recent Treehouse visit. He got a new beer called Snow (a wheat double IPA) and he's really excited about it. He drank Trail Magic (German Pils) on the podcast. Jake reminisces over a year of Cinderlands and his absolute love of their beer. The next beer we sampled is called Just Baked by Hitchhiker. A beer brewed with Samoa cookies, this beer is super dark and flavorful. We launched into a conversation about our favorite Girl Scout Cookies. We set aside Just Baked and picked up Did We Just Become Best Friends? from Hoof Hearted. Thanks to Sean P! Extremely smooth and really hop forward. 8.0% DIPA Nick and Alex got a Nintendo Switch! We're playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and if you wanna play with us, DM us your gamertag and we'll add you! Nick talked about BCBS and the big beer releases. We then changed gears and discussed the Thank U, Next music video. Yeah, we did. Just tune out if you want? And of course this leads into a debate about Hallmark movies… ugh. We wrap up with a giveaway, so listen to the end this week and we appreciate all our listeners. Cheers!

H Michael Croner (Groundlings, Big Bang Theory, What Would Diplo Do, commercials you've probably seen) joins Shaughn and Ellen to whine about his mom's encouragement of a future with wife and kids. The banter kicks in early but but first Shaughn and Ellen give the Hip Sip Tip. In honor of recording on Women's Day Ellen shouts out Dutcher Crossing, a winery run by a woman! Shaughn pimps a beer: Maine Beer Company! Because he DOES fuck with IPA. Then, H Michael gets into his beef. He loves his mom but dang--why does she always keep trying to inspire him to having a wife and kids?Shaughn and Ellen pair it with a wine that was started by a man who worked by himself. They are sipping the 2016 Bedrock Old Vine Zinfandel. The owner started it and worked by himself for six years before taking on a partner!Shaughn and Ellen concur the H Michael needs neither the "perfect partner" nor wine knowledge. Nor a home, but the recession is coming so no worries for anyone! In between wine and kid talk they get into getting stoned, how H Michael is part of the prob and fixing it, and how his parents are champion retirees. You can also learn how to properly do spacework. And about dental surgery. And if you wanna get laid get Zin.The lightning round covers millerandage, how Zin vines are trained, and what the birthplace of Zin is. Tune in and learn! On today's episode of THE FOOD SEEN, Chef Jeremy Sewall retraces his New England roots, from Samuel Sewall at the Salem Witch Trials, to generations of fishermen in Maine, like his Cousin Mark who supplies his restaurants of all their lobster. The name of his first restaurant couldn't be more apropos, as Lineage literally sit a block away from Sewall Ave in Brookline MA. What Jeremy's done with his fresh perspective for a regional cuisine oft relying heavily on historical dishes from the Puritans, is anew in The New England Kitchen (cookbook). He celebrates a contemporary cast of farmers and thinkers, from Skip & Shore of Island Creek Oysters, his co-collaborators from Island Creek Oyster Bar , to his newest Fort Point oyster bar, Row 34, which pours Maine Beer Company brews. What's not lost is Jeremy's sense of place. He still holds Boston's past (and the Red Sox) near and dear to his heart. This program was brought to you by Whole Foods Market. “What I'm proudest of in Lineage is that it's truly a neighborhood restaurant.” [16:00] “Fall has this great feeling of relief. The summer's over, the leaves are changing and that kind of dictates how you cook and how you eat. You start to crave things that are warming and hearty.” [27:00] –Jeremy Sewall on The Food Seen

Season 1, Episode 10 - This week, we’re drinking the saison rumored to be the source of Wyeast Laboratories 3711 saison yeast, a delicious sour from Allagash, stout from Freeport, Maine, and finally, Matt’s first small batch brew in quite a long time. This week, we’re joined once again by our in-house special guests Sara and Yvonne, and it gets a little crazy this week. We start off with some “discussion” on the movie The Godfather, and drink a tasty brew from Brasserie Thiriez called “Extra“, a dry-hopped french farmhouse ale, rumored to be the source of Wyeast’s 3711 French Saison ale yeast. Brasserie Thiriez, Allagash Brewing Company, and Maine Beer Company After that, we dive into a couple of excellent beers via Mr. Nagel, Allagash Brewing Company‘s Coolship Cerise, and Maine Beer Company‘s Mean Old Tom. Coolship Cerise is an open-fermented sour ale aged in oak barrels with cherries, and it’s nothing short of delicious. Greg gives us a some insight on how Coolship is made, fresh off his recent trip to the east coast of the United States. Mean Old Tom is a stout aged on vanilla beans. Maine Beer Company is out of Freeport, Maine, and if this beer is an indication of the deliciousness of their beer, then we’re definitely looking forward to more from this brewery. Feature: Homebrew – Matt’s Small Batch IPA. Matt’s Mashing In! Matt‘s known for brewing small batches of brew in the past, but since becoming a professional brewer, time for homebrewing has been limited. But Matt’s back in the saddle, and he decided to brew a very basic IPA to get back in the game. Photos from the brew day are up on our Flickr page. Check ‘em out! Feature: “Guess That Brew!” Jason’s taking a break from competing on this round of Guess That Brew, and instead, is providing some interesting reviews to rack our beer-soaked brains.
