This Day in Legal History: Selma to Montgomery MarchOn March 21, 1965, Martin Luther King Jr. led the beginning of the third and final Selma to Montgomery march, a pivotal moment in the American civil rights movement. The march was a direct response to the violent suppression of earlier demonstrations and the systemic disenfranchisement of Black voters in the Jim Crow South. Just weeks earlier, peaceful marchers had been brutally attacked by law enforcement on “Bloody Sunday,” as they attempted to cross Selma's Edmund Pettus Bridge. That violence was broadcast nationwide, shocking the conscience of the country and mobilizing public support for voting rights legislation. The march that began on March 21 was federally sanctioned, with U.S. District Judge Frank M. Johnson Jr. ruling that the demonstrators had a constitutional right to march. Protected by federal troops and the National Guard, the marchers traveled 54 miles over five days, arriving at the Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery on March 25. Their numbers swelled to more than 25,000 by the time they reached the steps of the Capitol, where Dr. King delivered his famous "How Long, Not Long" speech, declaring that “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”This sustained campaign of nonviolent resistance laid the moral and legal foundation for the Voting Rights Act of 1965, signed into law just five months later. The Act outlawed discriminatory practices like literacy tests and poll taxes and empowered federal oversight of voter registration in areas with histories of discrimination. The Selma marches highlighted the power of constitutional protest and judicial protection of civil rights, reinforcing the essential role of federal courts in safeguarding democratic participation. There was once a towering oak tree that stood firm in the wind and, under it, a reed that bent whenever the wind blew. A tyrant came to the land of the reed and oak, stomping his boot wherever he pleased. The oak resisted and was chopped down. The reed, seeing this, bent deeper–letting the boot press it into the mud day after day. Years passed and the reed, still alive, whispered to the boot: “See? I'm wise – I survived.”The boot replied, “You're not wise. You're soft. The oak was crushed because it defied us. But you? I step on you because I can.” Then the boot ground the reed into the dirt—without another thought. In a move that underscores the growing influence of executive power over traditionally independent legal institutions, President Trump rescinded an executive order targeting Paul Weiss after the firm pledged $40 million in pro bono services aligned with his administration's political goals. The announcement followed a private meeting with firm chairman Brad Karp and was accompanied by a sweeping commitment: no DEI policies, merit-based hiring, and representation of clients across the political spectrum—including those favored by the administration.Trump had previously sanctioned Paul Weiss by revoking its security clearance and threatening client contracts, citing the involvement of former partner Mark Pomerantz in the Manhattan DA's prosecution of Trump. That campaign against Paul Weiss, part of a broader effort targeting over 20 legal entities, seemed aimed at punishing firms perceived as adversarial while promoting loyalty through coercion.Karp's public gratitude for the order's withdrawal—and his reported acknowledgment of “wrongdoing” by Pomerantz—reads less like a principled resolution and more like a compelled confession by a simpering coward. Paul Weiss, a firm with deep Democratic ties, has now aligned itself with a president actively dismantling traditional norms around legal independence, seemingly in exchange for restored access and favor. This capitulation signals more than just a thaw in Trump's icy relationship with Big Law—it may represent a strategic blueprint: punish, pressure, and reward compliance – like with dogs. Legal experts and those with eyes to see warn that this redefinition of executive influence risks turning law firms into instruments of political will rather than defenders from it.Trump Rescinds Paul Weiss Order as Firm Pledges $40 Million (2)Frustrated by constant helicopter and seaplane noise, New York lawmakers are pushing for a first-of-its-kind "noise tax" targeting non-essential flights over the city. The proposal, led by state Sen. Kristen Gonzalez, would charge $50 per seat or $200 per flight for tourist and luxury air travel, while exempting essential services like medical transport, law enforcement, and construction. The revenue—expected to reach $10–15 million annually—would fund the state's Environmental Protection Fund, a move Gonzalez says is critical amid federal environmental funding cuts under President Trump. The bill reflects growing anger among residents across socio-economic lines who say aerial traffic disrupts daily life, especially in parks and along waterfronts. App-based services like Blade have exacerbated the issue by making chartered air travel more accessible to the wealthy, turning the skies into noisy corridors over neighborhoods and landmarks.Supporters, including advocacy group Stop the Chop NY/NJ, hope the tax discourages unnecessary flights by raising costs. However, the helicopter industry, represented by Vertical Aviation International, strongly opposes the bill. They argue that aviation regulation is solely under federal jurisdiction and warn the tax could trigger lawsuits and threaten jobs. The group says it has already taken steps to reduce noise but acknowledges that changing flight paths often just shifts the problem from one area to another. The legislation has passed the state Senate but faces challenges in the Assembly, where it stalled last year. With a budget deadline approaching on April 1, negotiations continue.New Yorkers Sick of Hovering Helicopters Prompt Bid to Tax NoiseA federal judge has ruled that the Social Security Administration (SSA) likely broke privacy laws by giving Elon Musk's anti-fraud team, known as the Department of Government Efficiency (DGE), unrestricted access to sensitive personal data on millions of Americans. Judge Ellen Lipton Hollander of Maryland blocked any further data sharing and criticized the agency for turning over vast amounts of information without proper oversight. The judge described DGE's actions as a "fishing expedition" based more on suspicion than evidence, warning against overreach in the name of rooting out fraud. The data in question comes from the SSA's “Numident” database—its so-called “crown jewels”—which holds Social Security numbers, medical records, banking data, and more, some dating back to the 1930s. SSA officials admitted DGE staff had access to a “massive amount” of records, and privacy advocates said the team was embedded in the agency without vetting or training. The ruling requires DGE to delete any data it accessed. The decision is a significant setback for DGE and comes on the heels of another ruling limiting Musk's authority to shut down USAID, since he lacks Senate confirmation. President Trump's administration has defended DGE's mission, calling it a necessary tool to cut waste, but the court noted a disturbing lack of concern for citizen privacy. SSA's acting head, Leland Dudek, expressed confusion over the order's breadth and said it might require cutting off access for all SSA staff.Meanwhile, labor unions and advocacy groups involved in the lawsuit welcomed the decision, saying it defends Americans' data from unlawful government intrusion. DGE's aggressive tactics have drawn scrutiny across other agencies as well, with courts allowing access in some departments but blocking it in more sensitive areas like the Treasury.Judge stops Musk's team from 'unbridled access' to Social Security private data | ReutersChief Judge Diane Sykes of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will take senior status on October 1, creating the first appellate court vacancy during President Donald Trump's second term. Sykes, appointed by President George W. Bush and once considered a potential Supreme Court nominee under Trump, has served over three decades in both the Wisconsin and federal judiciary. Her transition to semi-retirement allows Trump to nominate a new full-time judge to the influential Chicago-based court, which currently holds a narrow 6–5 Republican-appointed majority.Sykes cited a desire to spend more time with family as her reason for stepping back from active service. She becomes the second federal appellate judge to announce senior status since Trump's return to office, following Judge Sandra Ikuta of the 9th Circuit. While four appellate vacancies remain from President Biden's term, Sykes's departure offers Trump his first direct opportunity to shape the 7th Circuit bench.Sykes has authored notable decisions, including one upholding Wisconsin's voter ID law and a dissent in a landmark 2017 case where the 7th Circuit ruled that LGBTQ employees are protected under Title VII. She criticized the majority in that case for overstepping legislative boundaries—a position later rejected by the Supreme Court in Bostock v. Clayton County (2020).7th Circuit's Sykes to take senior status, creating vacancy for Trump | ReutersThis week's closing theme is by Johann Sebastian Bach. This week, we close with a piece as enduring and elemental as the legal principles we often discuss: Johann Sebastian Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major, specifically its iconic Prelude. Born on this day, March 21, 1685, Bach remains one of the foundational figures in Western music—a composer whose work balances mathematical precision with deep emotional resonance. Though he wrote for kings and churches, his music speaks to the full range of human experience, from joy to lament, duty to wonder. The Prelude to this suite is among the most recognizable solo cello pieces ever written, opening with a simple G major arpeggio that expands into a flowing, almost improvisational meditation. It's unaccompanied, yet complete—no orchestra, no embellishment, just one instrument revealing infinite depth. Written around 1717–1723 during Bach's time in Köthen, the suites were not published in his lifetime and lay in relative obscurity until cellist Pablo Casals rediscovered them in the 20th century. The piece carries a quiet authority that feels apt for reflection—whether on a ruling, a civil rights march, or a government in turmoil. It's structured, yes, but never rigid; expressive, but never indulgent. The Prelude doesn't declare or argue. It invites, it unfolds. It reminds us, like authority best wielded, that elegance lies in clarity and that restraint can be a form of power. This week, we let the steady resonance of Bach's Prelude accompany us out.Without further ado, Johann Sebastian Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major, the Prelude. Nine years ago, Joel was diagnosed with prostate cancer at his annual wellness exam while living in Connecticut; his best friend was his urologist at the time. He began making regular visits to Boston to get treated at Dana-Farber. For 42 days, after work, Joel would drive to Dana-Farber to get radiation treatments, then drive back home. Eventually, his PSA levels started to rise. Working with Dr. Mark Pomerantz, Joel started a hormone drug regimen that worked for a while, until it eventually stopped being effective. Judge Juan Merchan had to lay into Donald Trump's legal team on Friday morning after they tried to subpoena records from the Manhattan district attorney's office long after discovery ended. Trump's lawyers were seeking records related to former prosecutor Mark Pomerantz who publicly resigned from the DA's office after Alvin Bragg shut down an investigation into Trump. But Merchan refused the subpoena because it is prohibited by New York law to receive the records, something Trump's lawyers should have known. Also, Republicans in the Senate have spent the last few weeks laughing in Ted Cruz's face and mocking him in person because he finally got, as one Senator put it, a taste of his own medicine. Cruz was put in a position where he had to whip up votes for a bill to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration's funding, and usually he's the guy holding up legislation like this. So instead of cooperating with him, Republicans mocked him by proposing amendments that didn't fit and laughing as he realizes how annoying he has been all these years by doing the same thing. And like an even more sinister version of Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers movies, Donald Trump recently promised oil executives that he would kill environmental regulations - and get rid of electric vehicles - if they give him ONE BILLION DOLLARS. This is how politics works these days, but few politicians are bold enough to actually say it out loud like Trump did. But this could also be viewed as a form of either bribery or extortion, depending on how you look at it.Finally, during a reality-bending segment on Newsmax late last week, RNC co-chair Lara Trump claimed that Donald Trump "obviously" accepts the results of elections. This flies in the face of everything that Trump has said about the 2020 election, as well as all the efforts of the RNC that Lara is running to challenge voting laws and get rid of voting by mail. All that is being done because of Donald's lies about the 2020 election, and it is outright insulting for Lara to pretend that none of that has happened.Subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date on all of Farron's content: https://www.youtube.com/FarronBalancedFollow Farron on social media!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FarronBalanced/Twitter: https://twitter.com/farronbalancedInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/farronbalancedTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@farronbalanced?lang=en
Trump's attempts to rummage around in the private confidential files of a former special Manhattan DA prosecutor and see if he can argue that he was “blackmailed” by Stormy Daniels has failed (again). Michael Popok explains who Mark Pomerantz is; and why Judge Merchan is not letting him take the stand for Trump and not allowing Trump to get the Manhattan DA's notes about Pomerantz' opinions about the case before he noisily quit the DA's office. Former Trump prosecutor Mark Pomerantz invoked his Fifth Amendment rights during his deposition before the House Judiciary Committee raising serious questions about the legality and constitutionality of the investigation into President Trump. The video is from a May 2023 deposition but is making the rounds across social media now because of the witch hunt against Trump being exposed in that NY court room. If you've been following the news at all, you're aware that former president Donald Trump is on trial in a New York criminal court and is facing 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. And there's a lot to unpack. Our guest this week has been in the courthouse for this criminal trial and has been closely following the ins and outs of the case. Lisa Rubin is the MSNBC legal correspondent and a former litigator. She joins WITHpod to discuss the backstory of the trial, flaws in the legal system, how she says Trump has abused it, key figures and more.
On Sunday evening, the day before his fraud trial began, Donald Trump fired off a series of posts on Truth Social where he very clearly violated the gag order against him by attacking two of the witnesses against him. First, he went after former Manhattan prosecutor Mark Pomerantz and then he went after Michael Cohen. The original gag order expressly prohibited Trump from attacking any of the witnesses, yet here we are. Also, during a rally in Pennsylvania this past weekend, Donald Trump told his bored audience that it really "bothers" him when people say that he isn't popular. But that is actually the truth, as polls have consistently shown that voters want ANYONE but President Biden and Trump on the ballot this year, and both men have underwater approval ratings. So, by definition, Trump is unpopular, but he gets annoyed when people tell him that very basic truth. And according to new reports, small time investors into Trump Media and Technology Group are both confused and scared about the ongoing downward spiral of the Trump stock. The price per share bottomed out at the end of last week, and the criminal trial could drive prices down even further as they threaten the only draw the platform has - Trump himself being on it. But the weirdest part is that these investors keep buying more stock, even as they lose everything. Finally, Donald Trump is still as delusional as ever. The former president who is now sitting in court for his first criminal trial believes that his lingering criminal indictments could actually help him win in November. This runs contrary to what every poll on the issue has found, but Trump has never been one to let reality get in the way of his thinking. He believes that if he continues to play the victim then the voters will line up behind him.Subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date on all of Farron's content: https://www.youtube.com/FarronBalancedFollow Farron on social media!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FarronBalanced/Twitter: https://twitter.com/farronbalancedInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/farronbalancedTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@farronbalanced?lang=en
Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan District Attorney, has instigated an action to censure former President Trump, lodged under the accusation that he has disrespected a court-imposed silence obligation. The supposed violation came into view after the ex-president publicly aired three posts on social media, directly addressing Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels - both crucial witnesses in his upcoming trial. The DA seeks the intervention of Judge Juan Merchan, presiding at the Manhattan court, pressuring him to admonish Trump with the possibility of not only increased monetary penalties but also a potential incarceration that could extend up to thirty days. Merchan had previously instituted a mandamus over Trump, keeping a stringent check on his public communication due to his history of associations leading to judicial complications. It was a move conceived to buffer the risk that potentially leaped upon the seamless administration of justice due to untimely dissemination. However, the prosecutors located from Manhattan leveled allegations against Trump for three instances of disobedience pointed out on social media platforms during the initial session of the jury's selection. Citing these oversteps, the DA's office has recommended levying a fine of $3,000 on Trump calculated at $1,000 per each alleged breach. In addition to this, Bragg's department initiated steps to hold the former head-of-state and possible future Republican presidential nominee accountable for his actions and cite him in contempt of the Court. The Manhattan District Attorney's team also underscored a separate incident wherein Trump criticized Mark Pomerantz, a seasoned representative from Manhattan's prosecution. This was perceived as another attempt to considering defaming credible voices in the quest for justice.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Is Rudy Giuliani in serious trouble? He's facing two lawsuits. One is for getting a supermarket employee arrested. The other is… well, it's for a lot of stuff. Ken and Josh discuss the prospects for ShopRite employee Daniel Gill's lawsuit over Rudy crying “assault” over a tap on the shoulder. s for Noelle Dunphy, she has some pretty shocking claims about several areas of alleged misconduct, and we want to see what does (or doesn't) come out in discovery to support them. We also talk about Mark Pomerantz — the former Manhattan prosecutor who somehow took the Fifth when House Republicans tried to question him about the investigation into Donald Trump — and John Durham, whose own prosecutorial endeavors have wound down with a fairly underwhelming report. We talk about signs of activity in the Trump documents case that are maybe being over-read in the press, and about new infighting in Trump's legal team. And we talk about E. Jean Carroll's other lawsuit — the one that's still tied up in questions about whether Trump can be sued personally for statements he made about her while he was president — and what significance that lawsuit holds now that she's already won a multimillion dollar judgment on closely related claims.Visit serioustrouble.show to find a transcript of this episode, relevant links and to support our work. The legal battle between Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and the Manhattan District Attorney has just officially ended: the judge in the case has ruled in favor of Jordan, and the Manhattan DA's appeal to that ruling was just withdrawn. This comes shortly after former President Donald Trump was charged by the Manhattan DA with 34 felony counts of book-keeping fraud, and House Republicans began their own investigations. Chief among the lawmakers was Jordan—who, in his capacity as the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, launched an official probe of the Manhattan DA's office. And as a part of his investigation, Jordan wanted to question under oath a former Manhattan prosecutor named Mark Pomerantz, as he had deep inside knowledge of the inner workings of the Manhattan DA's office, as that work specifically related to the Trump case. Jordan sent an official subpoena to Pomerantz, compelling him to appear before a congressional committee and answer questions regarding both the Manhattan DA's investigation into Trump and the debates inside of the Manhattan DA's office that were taking place behind closed doors. Essentially, Jordan is working to investigate whether or not the indictment against Trump was truly “politically motivated.” ⭕️ Sign up for our NEWSLETTER and stay in touch

On Wednesday's Mark Levin Show, there is breaking news that the Hunter Biden's investigation has been infected with political preferential treatment after an IRS whistleblower has come forward. The claims come from a senior career IRS criminal supervisory agent putting their career on the line to expose how bad things are in terms of investigating Hunter. The Department of Justice has been covering up for President Biden and his family and will continue to do so despite the Biden White House denying any obstruction. Meanwhile, the brainwashing of the 1619 project pays no respect to our country's actual history of bravery and sacrifice. The tenured union Marxist and the American hating left have contributed nothing, let alone put their lives on the line like the patriots at Lexington and Concord. Also, a federal judge has denied Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's request to block a congressional subpoena for a former prosecutor in Bragg's office who investigated former President Donald Trump. Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil ruled against Bragg and in favor of Jim Jordan, who subpoenaed Mark Pomerantz as part of what he's claimed is a probe into whether Bragg's office used federal funds in the investigation of Trump. Later, it is incredible that the manifesto of the Nashville shooter has been withheld from the American people. The Democrat media doesn't want to know the motive because the shooter attacked a Christian school, which is also why Biden did not go to the service and has not invited the families of the victims to the White House. Biden is always looking for a scab to pick on the American culture and never celebrates or shows pride for America. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Happy 4/20! David Waldman was not old and/or high enough to pick up on Justice Putnam's “Dave's Not Here” reference and so we weren't certain if we were high and/or off the air this morning. Elon Musk is going to want something stronger by 4:20 today, seeing that his Starship lit up like a Tesla out of warrantee this morning. Fox News had to pay about $800 million to keep “News” on its logo this week, which may not be the $1.6 billion we wanted, but no worries, they will be paying in installments over the next couple of years. Fox will keep up the fight... except for Dan Bongino, Maria Bartiromo, and Jeanie Pirro. Next time Donald Trump is on, maybe they can ask him for tax advice. Too bad they can't fire their viewers. EPISODE 182: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:43) Ok I'm sorry for all the scatological references; I'm just fed up. A Federalist Society judge discovered by Chump's worms sitting on a bankruptcy court has ordered that the former Assistant DA for Manhattan HAS to sit for a deposition for Jim Jordan's Dog-And-Pony-Dung-Eating show and aid Jordan's effort to wipe Trump's ass with the Constitution. Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil has the nerve to insist no one is above the law and others are playing politics. Alvin Bragg should charge her with Obstruction of Justice. It's just more evidence that we must remember the GOP - The Party of Human Skid Marks - declared war on the rest of us in 2015 and we need to stop pretending they didn't. This country must be saved from the Republicans. B-Block (17:20) IN SPORTS: Max Scherzer of the Mets ejected for a game for allegedly using unauthorized sticky substances on his hand. Problem is: they've had this rule three years, there have only been three objections, and they've all been by the same umpire: Phil Cuzzi. We may be returning to the infamous 1998 era of "UmpShow" in which the arbiters ejected everybody they could find, including once, during a game that decided which team would go to the World Series - me. (26:07) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Nancy Mace is proud she once waitressed at Waffle House. She may be headed back there after what she said about Biden. RFK Jr makes the mistake of running for president and running on the records of his father and uncles. And OH THE HUMANITY: a Matt WalshBlog speech is terrorized by "Antifa" armed with... marbles? C-Block (31:25) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: 39 years ago this month I packed up and moved to Boston to start my dream job, for which they - and I - had waited ten months. The job lasted... FIVE months. The anticipation is truly greater than the event!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Former President Donald Trump on April 20 touted endorsements from Florida on Truth Social. He received the endorsements just days after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis visited Washington, D.C., in an effort to garner congressional support for a potential presidential bid. Meanwhile, an appeals court temporarily halted a planned deposition of former Trump prosecutor Mark Pomerantz, delaying an effort by House Republicans to investigate the office of the Manhattan district attorney. The attorney for an IRS special agent sent a letter to Congress seeking whistleblower protection so the agent can openly share information with lawmakers about alleged political interference in the Hunter Biden investigation. The House of Representatives passed a bill that would prohibit taxpayer-funded institutions from allowing transgender athletes to compete in women's and girls' sports in schools. A fifth man was arrested and charged with murder in connection with a shooting at a Sweet 16 birthday party that killed four young people in Alabama, authorities announced. ⭕️ Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV
Two days ago, Manhattan Attorney General Alvin Bragg filed an urgent request to enter a restraining order against Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio). But on the same day that he filed this request, the court rejected it. This is because, on Feb. 7, a Manhattan prosecutor named Mark Pomerantz published a book titled: “People vs. Donald Trump.” In that book, he detailed both his investigation into the Trump Organization as well as the decision of the Manhattan district attorney to not indict Trump. This former Manhattan prosecutor had inside knowledge about the inner workings of the Manhattan DA's office in regard to the Trump investigation. Pomerantz was one of the lead researchers in the case, as well as a critic of the DA for not getting the indictment. And so, on April 6, the current chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Jim Jordan, issued an official subpoena to Mark Pomerantz ordering him to come to Washington and testify before Congress. ⭕️ Sign up for our NEWSLETTER and stay in touch

This is Garrison Hardie with your CrossPolitic Daily News Brief for Wednesday, April 12th, 2023. https://nypost.com/2023/04/11/truck-carrying-soil-from-east-palestine-overturns-on-highway/ Truck carrying toxic soil from East Palestine train derailment overturns on highway A truck carrying about 40,000 pounds of toxic soil from East Palestine, Ohio, overturned on Monday, spilling roughly half its contents onto the highway before it even got out of the state. The open-top tractor-trailer was traveling north on SR-165 in Columbiana County when the accident occurred, CBS News reported. Driver Phillip Falck, 74, went off the right side of the road and hit a ditch and a utility pole before overturning, the outlet said. Officers who responded found the truck “on its side,’” per the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The local fire department and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency also responded. It was decided that the 20,000 pounds of spilled soil was contained and did not threaten any waterways. Falck sustained minor injuries and was cited for operating a vehicle without reasonable control, WFMJ reported. The soil onboard was being transported away from East Palestine, where a Norfolk Southern train derailed on Feb. 3, releasing multiple hazardous substances into the surrounding area. Residents were evacuated, and thousands of fish reportedly died from exposure to the toxins. More than two months later, the process of removing contaminated soil and water from the site remains ongoing. On Monday, state officials said approximately 11.4 million gallons of wastewater had been hauled out of the area, in addition to 19,900 tons of soil. A new health clinic, the East Liverpool City Hospital East Palestine Clinic, also opened in the area on Monday. It will replace the temporary assessment clinic that opened in the wake of the derailment. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/manhattan-da-alvin-bragg-sues-rep-jim-jordan-trump-indictment-subpoena Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg sues Rep. Jim Jordan over Trump indictment subpoenas Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg on Tuesday filed a federal lawsuit against Rep. Jim Jordan, alleging that the Republican lawmaker is trying to wage a campaign of intimidation over his prosecution of former President Donald Trump. In his lawsuit, the Democratic D.A. said he's taking legal action "in response to an unprecedently brazen and unconstitutional attack by members of Congress on an ongoing New York State criminal prosecution and investigation of former President Donald J. Trump." Bragg is asking a judge to invalidate subpoenas that Jordan, the chair of the House Judiciary Committee, has or plans to issue as part of an investigation of Bragg's handling of the Trump case. "The Manhattan D.A.'s Office focuses on the law and the evidence, not political gamesmanship or threats. We look forward to presenting our case in court to enjoin enforcement of the subpoena." The case is assigned to U.S. District Mary Kay Vyskocil, a Trump appointee who previously served as a federal bankruptcy court judge. In recent weeks, the Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena seeking testimony from a former prosecutor, Mark Pomerantz, who previously oversaw the Trump investigation. The committee has also sought documents and testimony about the case from Bragg and his office. Bragg has rejected those requests. Trump was indicted late last month on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to hush-money payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign to bury allegations that he had extramarital sexual encounters. The 2024 presidential contender has denied wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty at an arraignment in Manhattan last week. The House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing in Manhattan on Monday on crime in New York City and what it alleges are Bragg's "pro-crime, anti-victim" policies. The D.A.'s office, however, points to statistics showing that violent crime in Manhattan has dropped since Bragg took office in January 2022. https://justthenews.com/government/state-houses/newsom-stockpiles-2-million-abortion-pills-so-californians-can-access-them Newsom stockpiles 2 million abortion pills so Californians can access them after judge's ruling California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom is stockpiling as much as 2 million misoprostol pills used to terminate a pregnancy – after a federal judge's ruling last week sought to halt the FDA's approval of another abortifacient, mifepristone. "We will not cave to extremists who are trying to outlaw these critical abortion services," Newsom said Monday in announcing his plan. "Medication abortion remains legal in California." Mifepristone is used in conjunction with misoprostol to terminate a pregnancy through 10 weeks of gestation, according to the FDA. Misoprostol still can effectively terminate a pregnancy when used alone, according to a National Institutes of Health study but the Food and Drug Administration has not approved it for abortions. The Biden administration is appealing the ruling from the Texas-based federal judge that brought mifepristone's status into question. The case is expected to be heard by the Supreme Court. https://bongino.com/15-days-to-slow-the-spread-ends-after-1120-days "15 Days to Slow the Spread" Ends After 1,120 Days https://dailycaller.com/2023/04/11/governor-shut-down-church-pay-fee-kentucky-andrew-beshear/ On Monday, Joe Biden signed a GOP-led resolution that brought the national emergency over the COVID-19 pandemic to an end. And just like that, “15 days to slow the spread” was over….. after 1120 days. As the New York Post reported: Biden signed the legislation behind closed doors on the eve of his trip Tuesday to Northern Ireland and the White House acknowledged the milestone without fanfare in a brief late-afternoon email that read: “On Monday, April 10, 2023, the President signed into law: H.J.Res. 7, which terminates the national emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic.” The legislation drafted by Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) passed the House 229-197 in February, with a handful of Democratic supporters, and then the Senate 68-23 last month with about half of the chamber’s Democrats voting in favor. In January, the White House said that Biden would end both the national emergency and a separate public health emergency on May 11 after more than 1 million Americans died from the respiratory disease that originated in Wuhan, China. If the national emergency and the powers it afforded the government prevented even a single person from contracting COVID, the evidence has yet to be seen. Matt Palumbo is the author of Fact-Checking the Fact-Checkers: How the Left Hijacked and Weaponized the Fact-Checking Industry and The Man Behind the Curtain: Inside the Secret Network of George Soros https://dailycaller.com/2023/04/11/governor-shut-down-church-pay-fee-kentucky-andrew-beshear/ Dem Governor Who Shut Down Churches During COVID Ordered To Pay Over $270,000 In Attorney’s Fees A federal appeals court ruled Monday that three individuals who sued the Kentucky governor for their right to assemble for worship during COVID-19 must be paid over $270,000 in attorney’s fees. Randall Daniel, Theodore Roberts, and Sally O’Boyle sued in August 2020 after they received notices logging their attendance at Maryville Baptist Church’s Easter Service and informing them they must quarantine or face “further enforcement measures.” The group alleged Democratic Governor Andrew Beshear’s bans on religious gatherings and interstate travel violated their constitutional rights, which the Sixth Circuit affirmed in May 2020, according to court documents. On Monday, the Sixth Circuit upheld a district court ruling awarding the congregants $272,142.50 in attorney’s fees, rejecting the governor’s challenges. “I know a lot of people who are outraged that the TAXPAYER is on the hook for ANDY’S constitutional violation,” said Roberts in a tweet. “I share this outrage, but this outrage must be aimed at Beshear. If the people of Kentucky want to quit being taxed to pay for these court judgments, Kentucky MUST elect a governor who will actually follow the constitution.” Republican Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie responded to the ruling on Monday, congratulating attorney Chris Wiest and TJ Roberts on the win. The Sixth Circuit previously barred the governor from enforcing a prohibition on in-person services, disputing the lower court’s ruling which upheld the ban. “[The] unexplained breadth of the ban on religious services, together with its haven for numerous secular exceptions, cannot co-exist with a society that places religious freedom in a place of honor in the Bill of Rights: the First Amendment,” the court found in May 2020. “Here in Kentucky, there are so many different ways to worship, and all but one church in this commonwealth are engaged in them,” Beshear said after the initial lawsuit was filed, according to WDRB. “You can do it virtually. You can do it in a drive-in service, and in many states they are not allowing those drive-in services like we are. So this work — this opportunity to worship, which is so important, is still there. We just ask people to choose one of the versions that doesn’t spread the coronavirus, and I think that’s what our faith calls us to do.” Beshear did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg Sues Rep. Jim Jordan On Tuesday, Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg sued Republican congressman Jim Jordan to stop what Bragg called an “unconstitutional attack” on the ongoing criminal prosecution of former US president Trump. The lawsuit aims to block a subpoena of Mark Pomerantz, a former prosecutor who had led the Manhattan district attorney's investigation of Trump. The subpoena, issued last week by the House of Representatives judiciary committee, which Jordan chairs, seeks Pomerantz's appearance before the committee for a deposition. The Colorado House of Representatives on Saturday passed SB 188, which would require the state’s courts and medical licensing boards to protect doctors who dispense hormones and perform sex changes on teens from states that restrict these surgeries, as well as those who provide abortions. The bill, which was cosponsored by Rep. Brianna Titone (D.), who identifies as transgender, was approved alongside two pieces of legislation that would expand abortion access in the state, all three of which have already passed the state senate. Colorado is the latest blue state whose legislators have moved to enshrine protections to controversial medical procedures. Oregon Democrats last month passed a package designed to make their state a "haven" for people seeking sex changes and abortions, and Minnesota has passed similar legislation. California lawmakers have advanced a number of similar bills, including one bill that would allow children to check into group homes if their parents do not support their "gender identity." The bill, which passed on party lines, was advanced late Saturday after 29-hours of contentious debate. Before passing the measure, House lawmakers added an amendment stating that the state’s definition of "reproductive health care" includes sex change procedures and sterilization. This would ensure the legislation applies for minors under 19, according to Colorado Catholic Conference executive director Brittany Vessely. During the floor debate, Titone scolded a Republican colleague who questioned the safety of child sex changes, saying he lacked "empathy" and claimed no one would choose to change genders voluntarily. An increasing number of children are saying they are transgender, Reuters reported. In 2021, some 42,000 children and teens were told by therapists that they have gender dysphoria—almost triple the number given this diagnosis in 2017. The bill could still face a legal challenge. The state assembly’s non-partisan counsel said last week that SB 188 violates a provision in Colorado’s constitution barring bills from regulating more than one subject, Colorado Politics reports. Colorado’s Office of Legislative Legal Services found that the bill improperly welds the terms "reproductive health care" and "gender-affirming health care" into one entity, when they are actually separate. Democrats say this was a technical issue they resolved in the amendment process. But Republicans say the constitutional problems persist and that the error points to a much larger problem. The bill is expected to be sent to Gov. Jared Polis’s desk for approval, along with the two abortion bills that passed Saturday. Those bills would empower state officials to target crisis pregnancy centers for promoting alleged "misinformation" about abortion and force insurance plans to cover abortion without copays. Jordan’s subpoena, reviewed by Breitbart News, directs Mark Pomerantz, who resigned from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office in February 2022, to appear before the committee for a deposition on April 20. Pomerantz, a former special assistant assigned to the years-long Trump case, exited the Manhattan district attorney’s office right after Bragg took over. The move became a public affair when his resignation letter appeared in the New York Times last March. Pomerantz wrote in the letter to Bragg that he believed Trump was “guilty of numerous felony violations” related to his financial statements and that he was quitting because he thought Bragg’s decision at the time to “indefinitely” suspend the investigation into Trump was “misguided.” Jordan observed, based on the resignation letter, that Pomerantz had “prejudged the results” of the investigation and that his critical words of Bragg seemingly sparked the district attorney to openly declare that the Trump investigation was “far from over.” In November 2022, one week after Trump announced he was running for president again, the Times reported that Bragg had revived the Trump investigation and had zeroed in on a hush money scheme involving porn star Stormy Daniels and Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen. “For Mr. Bragg, the hush-money developments suggest the first signs of progress since he took office at the beginning of the year, when he balked at indicting Mr. Trump in connection with his business practices,” the outlet reported at the time. Pomerantz later went on to publish a book about the matter, called People vs. Donald Trump: An Inside Account, in which Pomerantz discussed internal concerns people had about the investigation and worries about the credibility of Cohen, a convicted felon. He added that Pomerantz “frivolously” compared Trump to John Gotti, a notorious New York City mob boss, and described him as a “malignant narcissist.” “The depth of your personal animosity towards him is apparent in your writing,” Jordan concluded. The subpoena marks Republicans’ strongest move yet in its investigation of the New York County’s indictment of Trump amid questions from some about Congress’s authority to probe open state-level criminal matters. https://americanmilitarynews.com/2023/04/us-kills-isis-leader-who-planned-international-terrorist-attacks/ US kills ISIS leader who planned international terrorist attacks A senior ISIS leader responsible for planning international terrorist attacks was killed in a U.S. strike on Monday in Syria, dealing another blow to the remnants of the Islamic State. U.S. Central Command, which oversees Middle East operations, said in a statement that the killing of the commander, al-Jabouri, will “temporarily disrupt [ISIS’] ability to plot external attacks.” Describing the operation as a “unilateral strike,” CENTCOM stated that al-Jabouri was a planner for attacks in Europe and Turkey, and had developed the leadership structure for ISIS in Turkey. CENTCOM said the strike did not injure or kill any civilians. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a U.K.-based nonprofit that tracks conflict in Syria, reported that a drone strike killed the commander while he was walking and making a phone call near his house. The strike came two weeks after U.S. forces in Syria traded deadly strikes with Iranian proxies, raising fears of escalation in the region. The Iran-backed strikes killed an American contractor and gave six U.S. troops traumatic brain injuries, CNN reported. Retaliatory strikes by the U.S. killed eight militants and targeted facilities used by groups associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Iran’s internal militia and its main force for operations beyond its borders. CENTCOM has stated that the U.S. has about 900 troops deployed in Syria, as well as about 170 contractors, Stars and Stripes reported. U.S. forces are stationed in Syria “to keep an ISIS resurgence at bay,” a military spokesman told the Washington Post in December. CENTCOM Commander Gen. Michael Kurilla told a congressional committee in March that “ISIS would return within one to two years” if the U.S. pulled out of Syria, Stars and Stripes reported. The House of Representatives recently voted down an effort to force the withdrawal of about 900 troops from Syria. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/apr/06/clarence-thomas-supreme-courts-gifts-republican-megadonor Clarence Thomas faces impeachment calls after reports of undisclosed gifts Clarence Thomas, the most conservative justice on the US supreme court, is facing renewed calls for impeachment after it was reported that for two decades he has accepted undisclosed luxury gifts from a Republican mega-donor. Thomas may have violated financial disclosure rules when he failed to disclose travel on yachts and jets and other gifts funded by the property billionaire Harlan Crow and uncovered by ProPublica. It found that Thomas flies on Crow’s Bombardier Global 5000 jet and holidays on Crow’s 162ft super-yacht. He has enjoyed holidays at Crow’s ranch in Texas and joined him at an exclusive all-male California retreat. The justice usually spends about a week each summer at Crow’s private resort in the Adirondack mountains in New York. The revelations prompted sharp criticism by Democrats of Thomas, who after 31 years is the longest-serving justice and an influential voice in the rightwing majority that last year ended the right to abortion. Dick Durbin, a Democrat from Illinois and chair of the Senate judiciary committee, said: “This behavior is simply inconsistent with the ethical standards the American people expect of any public servant, let alone a justice on the supreme court. “Today’s report demonstrates, yet again, that supreme court justices must be held to an enforceable code of conduct, just like every other federal judge. The ProPublica report is a call to action, and the Senate judiciary committee will act.” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a progressive congresswoman from New York, tweeted: “This is beyond party or partisanship. This degree of corruption is shocking – almost cartoonish. Thomas must be impeached. Barring some dramatic change, this is what the [chief justice John] Roberts court will be known for: rank corruption, erosion of democracy, and the stripping of human rights.” Impeachment remains unlikely, even given other calls regarding the pro-Trump activities of Thomas’s wife, the rightwing activist Ginni Thomas, and not just because Republicans hold the House. Only one supreme court justice has ever been impeached: Samuel Chase, in 1804-05. He was acquitted in the Senate.

The bills would also make Colorado the first state to ban abortion pill reversals. https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/04/06/exclusive-jim-jordan-subpoenas-manhattan-prosecutor-who-resigned-over-suspended-trump-probe/ Jim Jordan Subpoenas Manhattan Prosecutor Who Resigned over Suspended Trump Probe House Judiciary Committee chairman Rep. Hey DOJ – quit writing and start indicting! This week we discuss the ongoing grotesque trend of former officials writing books about all the crimes they didn't solve instead of actually protecting our country while in office. This is a long-brewing crisis going back to the days of John Bolton and James Comey, and its latest iteration is Mark Pomerantz, another lawyer lackey timing his “tell-all” for maximum profits and minimum democracy. We discuss how NDAs block the public from vital info and how the publishing industry has created an incentive for officials to remain silent about – or even participate in -- state crimes. We continue to discuss the case of Charlie McGonigal – the indicted FBI official who was secretly working for sanctioned Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska – in the context of a broader look at corruption in the so-called “department of justice.” We examine the factors that contribute to this crisis including insularity, elitism, and nepotistic networks. We also destroy the myth that authoritarianism and law are two separate categories and that expertise on one negates knowledge of the other. Mafia states are in fact dependent on the judiciary, which functions as the cage bars of autocracy. If you understand how the judicial system works in a typical kleptocracy, the Biden and Trump DOJs will strike you as familiar. This is why the “legal pundits” polluting our airways with savior syndrome myths are not only vapid, but, over time, dangerous, as they destroy public expectations of good governance. We also discuss the difficulty of parenting during this era of flagrant injustice. It's Merrick Garland's DOJ, but our children will have to live in its aftermath. For our bonus episode, available to Patreon subscribers at the Truth-Teller lever or higher, we answer questions from our listeners. Among the topics covered are Fani Willis and the Georgia investigation, what happens if Trump is indicted, Ron DeSantis lackey Christina Pushaw, and the debt ceiling crisis. We've got a new District Attorney in New York City – but it's the same old story of entrenched corruption and impunity for criminal elites! Last month, new DA Alvin Bragg decided not to pursue the prosecution of Trump for obvious crimes, and last week, lawyer Mark Pomerantz, who had come out of retirement to aid then-DA Cy Vance in the Trump Crime Cult investigation, published a blistering resignation letter in which he blamed Bragg for stopping the investigation in its tracks. What Pomerantz failed to mention was that Vance had spent his entire tenure protecting criminal elites – including the Trump family! – while lawyers in the know like Pomerantz said nothing until it was too late. Bragg did not create these problems; he inherited them. But now it is Bragg's job to fix them, and he seems more content to be the fall guy than to act.
Dan discusses how some Republicans continue to perpetuate the unfounded claims that Biden is not the legitimate POTUS. This is followed by an in depth look at the leaked resignation letter by former NY Prosecutor Mark Pomerantz, and what it reveals of the NY case against Trump.
Former Trump Prosecutor Mark Pomerantz, who resigned after a disagreement with his boss, says there is enough evidence to prove Trump guilty of multiple felonies. Once considered one of most dangerous criminal probes orbiting the former president, the Manhattan district attorney's investigation that led to indictments against Donald Trump's business and former associate Allen Weisselberg now stands in turmoil.Officially, the investigation continues, but two of its top prosecutors—Carey Dunne and Mark Pomerantz—resigned late last month. A recent New York Times exposé on the heated arguments preceding their departure suggest both men strongly disagreed with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's reluctance to bring charges against Trump himself. The Times quoted Dunne explaining his need to "disassociate myself with this decision because I think it was on the wrong side of history.”On the latest episode of Law&Crime's podcast "Objections: with Adam Klasfeld," former Brooklyn prosecutor Julie Rendelman provides insight on line prosecutors' disagreements with district attorneys—and what this clash could mean for the future of the Trump probe."You've heard that saying, 'You can indict a ham sandwich,' and in many ways, it's true," Rendelman notes. "You can indict a ham sandwich. It doesn't take much to get you indicted. It takes a whole hell of a lot in order to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that someone is guilty. And with Trump, it's not just about whether he cooked the books. It's also whether he intentionally cooked the books for the purpose of some level of criminality."Rendelman, a former homicide prosecutor behind the upcoming Law&Crime podcast "Without a Body," explains how an investigation deals with the absence of seemingly crucial evidence. Her podcast draws from her prosecutorial experiences to show how investigators proceed in a homicide case where a body is never found.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Texas governor Greg Abbot says God help Ukraine but weep for the USA it is being invaded on our border. At a campaign event in Harris County, Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) called for President Biden to refocus on the US border, rather than Ukraine's. Trump investigation folds in NY DA prosecution. And Ukraine at the UN in NY.Two prosecutors heading the Manhattan District Attorney's Office's probe into the Trump Organization called it quits on Wednesday — throwing the case into question. The DA's office confirmed the resignations of Mark Pomerantz and Carey Dunne. A source told The Post that the prosecutors jointly stepped down, stressing that the coordinated nature of the departures was a sign of intense frustration with the direction of the case. “We are grateful for their service,” DA spokeswoman Danielle Filson said in a statement. She declined to comment further, saying the probe is ongoing. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/mike-k-cohen/support
mark pomerantz is an important lawyer in new york city and he has promised to defend me every time i get arrested….well, not really, but i would much rather have him defend me than prosecute me. when i was in college and working at a tennis club in the bronx, i used to play tennis (at 6am) with the federal judge, edward weinfeld, who mark talks about in the interview.
