We are all walking through a turbulent time in the world, and particularly in the United States. It is a time when many are turning to their spirituality or faith for inspiration, for comfort, for some guiding principals. The JEWELS OF ELUL books published annually for the last 21 years, are part of the idea of spiritual preparation for the Jewish New Year. Ross Chait, Project Coordinator for these books of wisdom, explains on this podcast episode that each book has a one page commentary for the 29 days leading up to the New Year Holiday. Those 29 days are a period called ELUL in the Jewish faith. Thus, each year 29 people are asked to write their thoughts, memories, advice on one page of these unique books. In addition, through these many years of publication, each JEWELS OF ELUL has a theme. For an example, in the ninth year of publication the theme was, “The Art of Welcoming”, and for the 16th year, it was “Lessons From My Parents”. This year, the 21st publication, the theme is “Finding Balance”, which could not be a more challenging goal in the year 2023. Listen to the podcast about how these books are a treasure for everyone as we all try to learn from one another to navigate the world together. Thanks to Craig Taubman, the creator and producer of JEWELS OF ELUL for more than two decades now, and gratitude to him as a great community leader exemplified in his development of the Pico Union Project of Los Angeles, California. Santa Claus brought the market exactly what it wanted for Christmas, a new all-time high. The S&P 500 advanced more than 1.0% on Monday to close near the high of the session and set a definitive new all-time high. This high breaks the market out of its recent consolidation and could add another 100 points or more to the index before the next level of major resistance is reached. This week?s action could be a bit volatile due to low volume and engagement. The biggest news of the week will come on Thursday when they release the Chicago PMI. The PMI is expected to advance from the previous month, the question is by how much? Regardless, the data will not likely move the market unless it is wildly out of synch with the consensus estimates. The market will be closed on Friday in observance of the New Year Holiday.

Text by M.Morita Narration by Heba.A ●Schools and companies will be on a vacation during the New Year Holiday, which is from the end of December to the beginning of January. ●Usually, many people spend this new year holiday traveling, visiting families, or getting together with colleagues to have the Boh-Nen-Kai party to celebrate the end of a year of hard work, or the Shin-Nen-Kai party to celebrate a beginning of a new year full of opportunities and success. However, the spread of COVID-19 cannot be ignored this year. ●The Japanese government has initiated the Go-To-Travel campaign to support the service industry by providing discounts on hotel prices. However, this campaign will be temporarily suspended nationwide from December 28th to January 11th. The campaign has been already suspended for traveling to & from Sapporo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Tokyo as of December 14th. During those dates, you can still travel but there will be no discount on hotel prices. ●In areas where the number of infected people is increasing, restaurants are asked to shorten their business hours. If the number of new cases continues to increase, the restaurants may have to shorten their business hours even during the New Year Holidays as well. ●If you are planning to meet your friends or family that you haven't seen for a long time, be extra careful not to be infected by COVID-19 for at least two weeks before meeting them. When meeting them, check the condition of your body beforehand. Now you can have a safe and enjoyable holiday. In this solo episode, Tis the Season, I discuss the financial realities that comes with “…the most wonderful time of the year…”. The beginning of football season to me is one of the most wonderful times of the year. The weather is nice just about everywhere, everyone is in good spirits, fans are hopeful about the potential of what their teams may do in this new year even if they were 0-For in the previous season, everyone walks around with a pep in their step. All is well with the world during football season. As great as I think the start of football season is, Christmas and New Year Holiday season is truly the most wonderful time of the year and like the song says “tis the season to be jolly…”. It really is. With this season of happiness, comes the financial pressure to provide jolliness that is beyond your means so today I want to take a few minutes to talk about 5 ways to be merry during and after this season.

After strong trading in the lead up to Chinese New Year in mid-February, market participants were expecting China to return to the seaborne spot market with gusto. But sellers have been left feeling disappointed as rising domestic coal production, falling Qinhuangdao prices and warmer weather in...
It's the day after New Year's Day, a national holiday in Kazakhstan, Macedonia, Montenegro, New Zealand, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Ukraine and Scotland, where it's known as the New Year Holiday. As widely observed as it is, the Day after New Years day is unusual for a holiday in that it's not connected to any national or religious event. It's just an extra day off at the beginning of year to kick the year off right. On today's "A Day in the Life", we consider the music of the number 2.
Preparing 2 Ring in the New Year Holiday.
Rapid urbanization① in China has seen the emigration② of millions of workers from rural areas to cities. This has resulted in millions of children being left behind in rural areas under the care of relatives, mostly grandparents with little or no education, or having to take care of themselves. Their parents make their living in factories and restaurants, on the streets and in construction sites in cities which are often a hundreds of miles away. Parents are often stranded③ by work or enticed④ by the pay and therefore decide to sacrifice⑤ holiday time spent with family. Here, we have 40 left-behind children in the sixth grade at Shangqiao elementary school in Hunan province pleading⑥ for their parents to spend the holidays at home. "Mommy and daddy, I love you, please come home!" Both parents and children feel the pain of separation as the parents seek a better life for the family in the city. Because of the uneven development and distribution of wealth between urban and rural areas, workers need to go into cities for better economic opportunities. But if there are jobs at your doorstep with even slightly less pay, what would you choose? "Of course I'll work near home if I get to choose. My parents are old and my child is young, so I would like to be near them. Also, the cost of living is so much cheaper in my home town." That's Chen Xinxing, a migrant worker, expressing his desire to find a job close to home. For many, there is not really a choice. The government has made progress in creating more job opportunities in middle and west China, so that migrant workers don't need to travel so far away from home to work. According to the All-China Women's Federation, China is home to more than 61 million left-behind children living separately from their parents; almost 20 percent of all children in China and close to half of all children in the countryside grow up this way. The local governments of provinces with large migrant worker populations have introduced various measures to maintain the well-being of left-behind children. 1. Urbanization 城市化,城镇化 2. Emigration 迁移 3. Strand 困 4. Entice 吸引 5. Sacrifice 牺牲 6. Plead 恳求
