Lily is a 25-year-old actress from Kent who has recently completed filming her debut short film in America, titled "Untouchable," written and directed by Adam Lapallo. In this film, she portrays Jillian Freeman, a teenage fencer, showcasing her skill with both the American accent and the foil. Beginning her acting journey on the theatre stage, Lily has performed in beloved musicals such as "The Sound of Music" and "Les Misérables." She has also taken on classical roles in Shakespearean plays like "The Tempest" (as Gonzalo) with Car Crash Productions and "Romeo and Juliet" (as Juliet). Last December, she toured with Tale Spin Theatre's production of "Jack and the Beanstalk." Expanding her talents into voice acting, Lily contributed to the Choices Audio Project directed by Seralina Powers and aspires to delve deeper into this field. She trained at the UK drama school East 15, earning a Foundation degree, and performed in plays directed by Susan Tordorf, Charlotte Tompson-Lillie, and Richard Graham. Outside of acting, Lily enjoys reading fantasy novels with a good cup of coffee or tea. She embraces her nerdy side by writing and playing Dungeons and Dragons games with friends and participating in LARP events. Recently, she qualified as a basic level Core Fencing Coach, teaching children the fundamentals of foil fencing, and looks forward to further developing her coaching skills. With "Untouchable" currently in post-production, Lily is excited to see it make its way through the film festival circuit later this year.

Richard Graham, Chief Executive Officer of Delta Sound Labs, was at CES 2020 with the company's latest offering, Stream, a granular sampler audio effects plug-in that helps musicians and audio techs create big textures from very small sound samples.Delta Sound Labs is a U.S. based audio technology company focused on bridging analog and digital domains to create new instruments for the music, film, and gaming industries. Stream does that in a powerful, but user-friendly way, employing the concept of live looping - capturing audio on the fly, then repeating it to create larger, grander textures.Stream is a plug-and-play virtual mixer employing time-domain processing that provides an immediacy of results not found in spectral or frequency granulators. It can manage very small samples of sound, down to 20 milliseconds, and layer it up to 16 voices. While most looping systems allow for a short burst to be repeated on end (think KT Tunstall's Black Horse and the Cherry Tree), Stream is designed for integrating very small sections of audio as well as longer loops. The system also boasts a very low latency, making it ideal for live performance. The software is designed for people who like to perform solo with conventional instruments like the guitar, voice, or even brass, and want to record themselves as they play and use that as a pedal point to launch from, to solo or play melodies. From a live performance standpoint, there is something very special about a single performer acting as their own full band. The sounds can also be paired to a MIDI controller, allowing you to play the recordings back almost like notes on a piano.Stream also works within Unity as an audio mixer plugin, providing a tool for environmental audio for video games. This kind of granular audio processing could make for smaller audio installations for games, while also widening the capabilities of the game. Opening a door in a horror game could have a screeching sound that is customized to the length of the action. The software retails for $49. If we can stop, and allow for some space in our lives, we can rediscover and find things of value, such as a deep listening to music.

It's our last Writer's Routine of 2017! So now, for something a little bit different. Artist, illustrator and writer Richard Graham brings us his daily ritual!Richard upcycles old junk, furniture and other bric-a-brac to make 3D pieces of character art. With this, he then imagines a story involving the pieces, and writes picture books for kids! His first 'The Cranky Caterpillar' is a tale of an insect stuck in a piano, moodily beating the keys, until a girl finds him, and sings some colour into his life.I went down to Richard's 'Cranky Caterpillar Museum' in Kings Cross, where he makes actual art, writes stories and trudges through proper admin. We talk about the difference between art styles and why some creators choose these methods, also why writing a short and concise story is sometimes horrendously tough, and how sometimes it's best just to put down the pen and switch off for a while. You can look at more of Richard's work at mrmake.co.uk.Our Distinguished Diary today features the weird and wonderful writing routine of Sir Tom Stoppard, who received an Academy Award for his screenplay of 'Shakespeare in Love'.Make sure you subscribe to the show on your favourite podcast place, and you'll get some brand new routines and inspiration in 2018!writersroutine.com@writerspod See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Just in time for the U.S. elections, Gene and Derek hold a roundtable discussion on political and propaganda comics. Joining them in the conversation are Richard Graham, author of Government Issue: Comics for the People, 1940s-2000s (Abrams ComicArts); Rafael Medoff, co-author (along with Craig Yoe) of Cartoonists against the Holocaust (Clizia Inc.); Kent Worcester, editor of Silent Agitators: Cartoon Art from the Pages of New Politics (New Politics Associates); and Fredrik Strömberg, the writer of Comic Art Propaganda: A Graphic History (St. Martin's Griffin). The guys talk with their guests about the significance of political cartooning and what drew each of them into this particular avenue of scholarship. Most of their conversation concerns the history of the genre (at least in the United States) as well as the process behind the research. At the same time, they also focus on the current political moment and how, as several of the participants feel, most contemporary political cartoonists haven't really met the challenge. The participants also share their thoughts on the impact of digital technology on the art form. In a heated political season signified by polemics and propaganda, it's reassuring that you can turn to a Comics Alternative special episode providing you with the soothing comfort of...well, polemics and propaganda. They are producing an event which is bringing together deaf and hearing artists in Washington, D.C. for the first time called In-Sight and Sound: Live De(a)f Poetry, Nov. 11, from 8 PM to 10 Pm at Busboy and Poets in Hyattsville, MD. They have a kickstarter campaign we want to help them raise $3000.00 by Nov. 1 which means we don't have time to think, we just need to give. The words of one of our most loved hymns, Dear Lord and Father of Mankind, were taken from the last six verses of John Greenleaf Whittier's poem, The Brewing of Soma, an attack on ostentatious and overt religious practise. But it wasn't until over fifty years later, that a school master at Repton in Derbyshire had the inspiration to pair it with a tune by Sir Hubert Parry, thus confirming it as a favourite for school assemblies, funerals and weddings. The current Director of Music at Repton, John Bowley, explains how this happened, while composer and conductor Bob Chilcott explains why this was a musical mariage made in heaven. We hear from those for who whom the hymn has special significance, including the MP from Gloucester, Richard Graham; when briefly imprisoned in a Libyan gaol in 1978 he found enormous comfort in the words and tune. Pipe Major Ross Munro remembers recording the piece in the swelting heat of Basra with members of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and film director Joe Wright recalls how the inclusion of this hymn was central to the power of his famous scene depicting the evacuation of Dunkirk in his film, Atonement. Producer: Lucy Lunt.
