कंपनियों व विशेषज्ञों का मानना है की इंटरनेट अग्ग्रेगेटर कंपनियों के "गिग वर्क" में "फ़्लेक्सिबिलिटी”, या अपनी मर्ज़ी के घंटे उपलब्ध होने के कारण, यह महिलाओं को ख़ास आकर्षित करेगा, और जो महिलायें पहले से घर का ज़्यादातर कार्यभार सम्भालती हों, वह भी इस से आमदनी कमाने के नए अवसर पाएँगी पुरुषों के मुताबिक आज भी महिलायें गिग वर्क में कम संख्या में हैं। जो महिलाएं "प्लाट्फ़ोर्म" या गिग वर्क में आ रही हैं, आज भी सब कार्य क्षेत्रों में बराबरी के बजाय, सफ़ाई, सलोन, ब्यूटी पार्लर आदि, कुछ ही क्षेत्रों तक सीमित हैं। "काम की ज़िंदगी" के तीसरी एपिसोड में अनुमेहा यादव ने पैंतीस वर्षीय सीमा सिंह से बातचीत की, जो एक अनुभवी ब्यूटिशन हैं जिन्होंने खुद सलोन का काम सीख कर, 8-10 साल सवंतंत्र काम कर के, अर्बन कम्पनी से एक पार्ट्नर की तरह जुड़ी।अर्बन कम्पनी आज भारत के सब से बड़े सर्विस प्लाट्फ़ोर्म में हैं। यह घर के काम की सुविधाएँ जैसे की सफ़ाई, बिजली का काम आदि, और घर आ कर सलोन जैसी सुविधा ग्राहकों को देती हैं। October 2021 में सीमा और उनके साथ क़रीब सौ ब्यूटिशन व स्पा महिला वर्कर्स एक ऐतिहासिक सार्वजनिक प्रोटेस्ट का हिस्सा बनी। उन्होंने कम्पनी द्वारा 20 प्रतिषित से ज़्यादा कमीशन काटने का विरोध, महीने कुछ बुकिंग बिना किसी दंड के मना करने की आज़ादी, वह उनकी सुरक्षा वह स्वास्थ्य की बेहतर सुविधा की माँग ले कर अर्बन कम्पनी के हरियाणा में गुरुग्राम ऑफिस पर धरना दिया। सीमा पूछती हैं की “पार्ट्नर" नाम के इस्तेमाल के बावजूद कमिशन, फ़ीस, और कमाई आदि के नियम जब जब कम्पनी बदलती है, तो "पार्ट्नर" से कोई सहमति क्यूँ नहीं लेती? महिला गिग वर्कर्स द्वारा एक प्लाट्फ़ोर्म कंपनी की नीतियों पर सवाल, वह इस स्तर पर खुला विरोध, भारत के किसी शहर में शायद पहली बार दर्ज किया गया। 22 अगस्त 2022 को एक प्रश्नावली का ईमेल पर जवाब देते हुए अर्बन कम्पनी प्रवक्ता मोमिता मजूमदार ने "सुनो इंडिया" को बताया की पहले के मुताबिक़ कयी नियम जैसे की कमिशन, पेनल्टी, बीमा आदि पर सुधार वह बदलाव किए जा चुके हैं और इस वह अलग विषयों पर निम्न ब्लॉग साझा किए: कंपनी द्वारा 29 अगस्त 2022 भेजे गए स्वास्थ्य पर किए गए खर्च राशि के विवरण में पार्ट्नर्ज़ को प्रदान किए – जिस में उन्होंने लिखा है रुपये 20 करोड़ के ब्याज-मुक्त उधार, रुपये 2 करोड़ "कोविड बीमा", रुपये 41 लाख कोविड बीमारी के कारण काम से छुट्टी के एवज में, 32 लाख रुपये कोविड में पार्ट्नर्ज़ की मृत्यु के वियोग में सहायता, वह 13 लाख रुपये आपातकालीन स्वास्थ्य सुविधा में पार्ट्नर्ज़ पर खर्च किए। इस के अलावा: Urban Company announces INR 150 Cr. I just want to make sure I got that. We're here on a Monday. It is cleaning day. Sue 1:39Yes. Eric 1:39Yeah. So we might hear some background noise of cleaning. That's okay. And you were telling me as I came in that cleaning day is something that's kind of come up through the whole pandemic, right? Sue 1:50We were open seven days a week and then after the closed down mandatory closed down a salons, when we reopened, I kept Monday's close so that we would have a day that we could do deep cleaning. Eric 2:02Yeah. Nice. All right, cool. Well, hey, this we're not here to talk about, you know, pandemic stuff, things like that. We're talking about DiscoverOV. But so I'm just kind of curious, I have no idea. And so I'm looking forward to hearing. How did you end up in Ocean View here for your business? Sue 2:19Well, I worked downtown again for 18 years, and I had been watching the growth. I live right around the block. I was watching the growth happen in a speech and they had the homearama there the first homearama. And I said to my husband, you know, there's no salons around here. I think that we need a really good salon. And he said, Well, you should do it. And in 2006 we did it. Eric 2:43There you go. Yeah. Now I learned when I came in here, you actually have two sides. But when you started you started with the one right. Sue 2:50We one side I was gonna say a very small neighborhood salon. And within two years of opening, people were climbing all over each other. So we took the storefront right next to us and divided up to the spa side and the hair side. Eric 3:06Alright. Now how many people did you when you started? How many people did Jeff working for you? Sue 3:11There were five of us. Eric 3:12Five of you. Yeah, but and then before pre pandemic, you were up? You told me you were up to... Sue 3:1626 Eric 3:17Yeah, that's amazing and even right now, Sue 3:19Right now we're 19 Eric 3:2119. That's fantastic. That's growth. That's 26, 19. That's, that's pretty that's you're a significant employer in this area. That's really kind of cool. So. So tell me, what's a project right now that you're working on with the salon that you're excited about? Sue 3:38Okay, we are going to get all new furniture in here. And so I'm shopping for new hair stations and chairs, new manicured tables, we have new pedicures spas already. And so we're just trying to make the right decision before we get it all brought in. And if anyone knows anything these days, it takes a long time to get stuff shipped. Eric 3:59It does. Yeah, supplies are, but it's looking great. You told me the floors new? Sue 4:0415 years anniversary was in April. So this is our 15 year gift to our community. Eric 4:10Oh, wow. That's really great. Now we're sitting here also by i think i don't think it's right for us to have a podcast interview and not mention you have your mascot sitting here.

We all know our industry has forever changed. Thank you, COVID! But only we, the leaders, the artists, the people behind the chair, are the only ones who feel all the feels. I don’t know about you, but I remember a few people saying things like… “No one is going to be rushing to get their hair done when things open back up.” or “I don’t think people are going to be pouring money into their hair and pedicures as they used to.” or “Are people even going to feel safe to go into the salon?”I heard all of these comments, and I reassured the “people” who said these things that that wouldn’t be the case. I’ve lived life as a stylist through the 2008 economy crash, and I can tell you that it was not the case; in fact, it was my highest year as a commissioned stylist at that time. So, thinking back to June when we got the green light to open, I never worried that people wouldn’t want to come in or that our guests wouldn’t feel comfortable.

Uncertainty around the U.S.-China trade war and a global economic slowdown have caused interest rates to tumble and weighed on the major stock averages in recent weeks. Last month’s jobs report showed a strong consumer, but business investment is low as investors and business owners juggle new tariffs and fiscal policy uncertainty. Video obtained by The Post shows William Rivas, 39, laying on top of his bleeding estranged wife, 35-year-old Carmen Iris Santiago, after stabbing her repeatedly around 7 p.m. Wednesday inside the Jackson Heights shop. “We tried to get him off of her but his strength was greater than ours,” explained Tu S’tilo Salon SPA owner Lourdes Salazar, through tears. “And then he tried stabbing us.” The footage later shows plainclothes police officers arriving at the scene and pulling Rivas away from his dying wife as bystanders look on, some even videotaping the tragic aftermath.

  Gene (88) and Martha (84) Finney share their story of hope from the 1950s. Gene is a World War II veteran who served the navy for about two years. After the war ended, Gene took the option of taking a course under the GI bill which offered a cosmetology course and a sheet metal course. Gene did not have a chance to go to school before joining the navy. In the interview, he relates how he started making money by the age of 8 by selling gum and taking on different jobs, constantly hoping to do better, until he joined the navy at age 17. Having the eye of an entrepreneur, Gene took on the cosmetology class (which he knew would pay better) and later became a hairstylist for Gould’s Salon Spa where he retired from just last year at the age of 87. He was a hairstylist there for 63 years. He’s done the hair of Elvis and Cybill Shepherd. Gene is also an avid harmonica player. He’s played individually, with a band and lately with his eldest son, Rick. Gene uses his gift of music to share hope to a lot of people – he plays in retirement homes and churches and wherever his music takes him! Martha and Gene met when Martha was 15 and Gene was 19 in a dance and met again after a year where they’ve decided to get married. Martha fondly recalls how Gene had sent her out every morning from 11th to 12th grade to finish high school. When their last child went to school, Martha then took up nursing and later worked as a nurse for 25 years. Gene and Martha have been married for 67 years and are the proud parents of three children, Ricky, a pilot/crop duster, Sharon a teacher and Jeannie a caregiver.  Gene and Martha believes that in life, we shouldn’t give up and that we should know that there’s always a way to make it through.
