In this episode Katie Oshita, RN, BSN, IBCLC and Mark Persaud, DDS discuss tongue tie both from a parent's and provider's perspective and how all of this led to Dr Persaud and his wife Amelia Persaud to create a multi-therapy office.  The strategy here was to allow parents one location, one place to centralize care.  More than that, this central design facilities provider communication and true learning from each other.  Listen for more details about this groundbreaking tongue tie center of Atlanta.Podcast Guest: Mark Persaud, DDS and his wife, Amelia OTR/L, IBCLC built their own specialty practice from the ground up almost three years ago, where they focus on tethered oral tissues (TOTs) and therapy under one roof.  The focus and passion behind his practice is to educate parents and walk them through the TOTs release process in a way that he felt was lacking when he went through these issues as a parent himself. Both of his children exhibited multiple signs and symptoms of TOTs as infants, and despite exhausting consultations with different medical professionals, he felt that there was a missing piece of the puzzle in improving their issues.  This sent him and his wife down the rabbit hole of airway focused dentistry and therapy.  Through several continuing education courses and a practice that focuses only on TOTs and therapy, Dr. Persaud has a unique exposure that allows him to look beyond the lens of just performing frenectomies, but also understanding holistically, the importance of pre and post therapy rehabilitation and wound management, which he feels truly makes all the difference in providing patients with consistent and predictable results.  Dr. Persaud is from Queens, NY. He graduated from Meharry Medical College in 2017, and completed an AEGD through NYU-Lutheran in Atlanta, Georgia, where he and his family settled. Although he still loves New York (to visit), the hustle and traffic congestion of the big city life drives him bonkers. He is a homebody that enjoys time with his two kiddos and awesome wife.  Aside from being an airway focused dentist, he finds himself becoming more into health and wellness, and would love to grow his airway focused practice into adding functional medicine in the upcoming years. Podcast host: Katie Oshita, RN, BSN, IBCLC has over 22 years of experience working in Maternal-Infant Medicine.  Katie is a telehealth lactation consultant believing that clients anywhere in the world deserve the best care possible for their needs.  Being an expert on TOTs, Katie helps families everywhere navigate breastfeeding struggles, especially when related to tongue tie or low supply.  Katie is also passionate about finding the root cause of symptoms, using Functional Medicine practices to help client not just survive, but truly thrive. She credits much of her drive and business sense to her Dad. Karen says her Dad always told her, “You can have anything you want in your lifetime; all you have to do is work for it!” Coming from the finance world and a successful accounting career, Karen made the jump to the world of beauty and opened Luxe Salon and Spa on Monroe Avenue in 2005. When this location could no longer meet the needs of a growing business,Luxe moved to the new, larger location on Jefferson and Winton Rd in 2012. Karen sees laser clients on a limited basis, though most of her days are spent overseeing the running of the ever-growing business. Karen says “I love seeing clients leave happy and smiling. Our goal at Luxe is to make our clients look and feel beautiful!” Karen is also a consultant with "Empowering You" Consulting. As your coach, her goals are to inspire you to being a savvy business owner and empowering leader. She will guide you to personal and professional success, as a result, you will see your life and profits grow...your potential reached! Favorite Quotes: “Just Do It” “Great minds discuss ideas, Average minds discuss events and Small minds discuss people.” By Eleanor Roosevelt “I wanted to be an owner who worked on the business rather than IN the business. One of my major goals was to own a building.” Welcome to Rags to Riches, and thank you for joining us on this journey! I have been in the beauty industry for over 25 years; I started as a technician working out of my house. As my business continued to grow, I purchased a spa not knowing that the previous owner was bankrupt! I financially turned it around, while adding additional space for a hair salon. I quickly outgrew my space, and having one of my goals to own a building, I purchased a 16,000 square foot building, which is now the home of Luxe Salon, Spa, and Laser Center. At this point, I was ready to start working on the business so I stepped away from being a technician. I hired and coached my team to reach their monetary successes! One of my biggest goals was to be an owner who worked on the business rather than in the business. I was ready to take another step, and my passion lead me to consulting. I consulted and coached salon and spa owners around the United States to take their businesses to the next level for over five years! I have always wanted to write a book and when the pandemic hit, I thought it would be a perfect time. I knew that I wanted to reach as many people as possible to help inspire, coach, support, and give hope that our industry will bounce back! At the H2T Skin and Laser Center, we obviously value optimal results when it comes to the various procedures that we offer, so we thought that we would talk today about what “best results” look like when it comes to a couple of the procedures that we offer. Beginning with facial rebalancing, we detail what that is and why it has become more necessary over the last decade or so. We discuss how the heart of the problem is sometimes surprising to our clients because they don't initially recognize that as the issue. It's really important in certain circumstances, however, to trust your provider, and we talk about how we encourage clients to not be concerned about the number of syringes used because we, after all, know how many are needed to achieve the best results. We also discuss botox and how some clients similarly try to limit providers to a certain number of units when that isn't going to be enough for them to be happy with their results. Thanks so much for listening, and be sure to stay tuned to the end this week because we have a couple of exciting announcements!   Time Stamps [0:43] - We are talking about how we treat our patients and what optimal results are. They want to do whatever they feel like doing without having to answer to executive boards or other surgeons they work under.  They want to set their own hours, hire and fire staff and buy equipment if they feel like it.  They also want to make more money and assume they will in solo practice since they keep all of the profits and not just a percentage.  However, the flip side of that autonomy means they also get to handle their own books and inventory, while also marketing to attract cosmetic patients.  The business and marketing side of plastic surgery can be fun, daunting, uncertain and confusing.  So, is Solo or Group practice better? Here's a unique business model that allows you to run your solo practice as you want, but also enjoy the perks of being under the umbrella of a much bigger practice. Very interesting! This week's Beauty and the Biz Podcast was an interview I did with Sam Jejurikar, MD, a board-certified plastic surgeon and a member of the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute that includes 10 surgeons, 4 ORs, 40 staff in a 45,000 square foot facility. We talked about their unique business model to buy into the practice but run as a solo practitioner and how they make decisions with so many surgeons involved. Visit Dr. Jejurikar's website P.S. If cellulite has you bumming about your backside, you can head back to the beach – dimple-free!  The FDA has finally approved an injectable treatment to reduce cellulite, and one NYC top doctor says he's found the Holy Grail. Cellulite occurs when the skin is pulled downward by connective tissue bands, and creates the dimpling effect of what we call "cellulite." Traditionally, cellulite has been extremely difficult to treat, and the options that work involve significant downtime and/or surgical intervention. QWO is an injectable enzyme given in a series of treatments to help reduce the appearance of cellulite and dimpling on the backs of legs and the butt (note: as of this podcast it's only FDA approved in the butt). The enzyme targets the collagen in the fibrous bands of the buttocks and dissolves the fibers. Our guest, Dr. Bruce Katz, is a board-certified dermatologist and Director of the JUVA Skin & Laser Center in Manhattan and says the promising results from QWO have had women flocking to his practice. We talk to Dr. Katz about this promising treatment.

She decided to make it her mission to make the skincare industry more inclusive. Rachel’s unrelenting passion drove her to found Urban Skin Solutions Medspa and Laser Center in 2006 in Charlotte, NC. After great success, Rachel launched Urban Skin Rx®, a line of clinical skincare products for diverse skin tones, in 2010. Her journey to being the incredibly successful skincare entrepreneur that she is today, started years earlier when as a young girl, being bullied to such an extent made her decide to dedicate her life to helping others with skin concerns. Our conversation delves into body image, bullying, the effects of social media, celebrity clients, motherhood and the constant balancing act!! For many of us, body image is an ongoing internal topic; bullying unfortunately is not restricted to the playground, and its effects can be life-long. Thankfully for Rachel, her talent and dedication to improved skincare led her to create products that had people scrambling to get their hands on them, and some of those people were celebrity clients like Eva Marcille, Fantasia and Tasha Cobbs, and they became friends!!!The growth of Urban Skin Rx is evident in stores like Target, Walmart, Ulta, CVS, QVC and recently, HSN. Rachel has achieved a powerful platform to use so as to bring awareness to, and raise money for important social and racial justice organizations such as Black Lives Matter, Campaign Zero, Color of Change, Fair Fight and so many more. For all that she does, my skin, and the skin of many others, say a big “Thank You” to Rachel Roff.........!!!FOLLOW RACHEL:Rachel RoffFOLLOW ME:Acting/Singing/Hostingwww.livingoutloudwithlauretta.comPLEASE DOWNLOAD THIS, AND ANY OTHER EPISODES OF LIVING OUT LOUD with LAURETTA.PLEASE LEAVE A REVIEW- SAY WHAT’S WORKING FOR YOU (AND WHAT’S NOT!) Back in 2012 Angie and Sherry started coming to Advanced Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center for Botox and Fillers with Dr. Mendelsohn. But over the last few years they both began noticing changes in their eyes and wanted to know their options for appearing less tired and more refreshed. Sherry explained that her best feature were her eyes and within the last few years she felt that her eyelashes were being hidden by the heaviness of her eyelids. It bothered her that her eyes were no longer getting attention and that the loss of volume and elasticity were causing her eyelids to droop.Angie was also experiencing loss of elasticity and her friends were constantly asking her if she was ok or not feeling well. She looked tired but actually felt great. She wanted her eyelids to match the way she felt on the inside, which was young and fun! Angie became conscious of her aging looks while attending a reunion. That’s when she decided she was going to do whatever it took to look as great as she felt. A portion of this video contains actual eyelid surgery. Dr. Mendelsohn describes the upper blepharoplasty procedure in great detail. He starts the procedure by carefully measuring both eyelids to make sure they are balanced. Dr. Mendelsohn then numbs the area and begins the procedure, which only takes about 10 minutes per eyelid.Angie and Sherry came to Advanced Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center with two other co-workers to have their upper blepharoplasty. They felt pampered, had a great time together, and while they were recovering they compared notes no who was doing the “best”. Having their upper eyelid procedures together kept them talking about their individual experiences and they just couldn’t be happier.Sherry has her eyelashes back and she looks brighter and less tired. Angie doesn’t pull on her upper eyelids anymore and loves her refreshed appearance.
