In honor of the passing of David Lynch, we are taking a very analytical look at two of David Lynch's masterpieces; Blue Velvet & Mulholland Drive. Blue Velvet (1986) starring Kyle MacLachlan, Isabella Rosselini, Laura Dern, and Dennis Hopper presents the dual worlds within the town of Lumberton and how the discovery of a human ear by Jeffery played by Kyle MacLachlan leads him down a dark path into the town's seedy underworld. Mulholland Drive (2001) starring Justin Theroux, Naomi Watts, and Laura Harring presents the dreamlike world of Hollywood and how a young starlet's search to help her new friend discover the cause of her amnesia leads down the path of a surrealist nightmare. The best way to get a woman like Cayley to come back on your podcast is to offer two things, Taco Bell and Crispin Glover. Since I was not about to putany fast food in the mail. I thought having her come on to the show to discuss one of Crispin's only big starring role was really the best option. Willard is a 2003 remake of a 1972 feature about a young man who commands an army of rats to help get revenge against a tyrant boss. Co starring, R. Lee Ermy and Laura Harring. This feature was met with a lot of problems with the studio after it was released due to poor test screenings and It doesn't get talked about much. “She had the longest neck in the history of actors” The Peril of Peril arrive in Los Angeles, bright eyed and bushy-tailed. Everyone loves them because they're brilliant, and they make fast friends with an amnesiac who tells them to watch this week's film Mulholland Drive (David Lynch, 2001). A Cowboy watches them as they watch the film. Betty (Naomi Watts) is an actress who is sure to feature on all the hottest casting lists in LA. She is great. But when she gets drawn into the mystery surrounding the amnesiac ‘Rita' (Laura Harring), the twosome find themselves struggling to comprehend a world filled with missing cash, put upon mafiosos, blue keys, a put upon movie director (Justin Theroux), a diner named Winkie's, a club named Silencio, and a calmly intimidating Cowboy (Monty Montgomery). Watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbZJ487oJlY ********PLOT SPOILER ALERT******** What happens next is famously open to interpretation. Revealing a new set of characters, near identical in appearance, over 90 minutes in, again played by Watts and Harring, hints that perhaps everything was a dream until that point, or perhaps they are doppelgangers, or whatever you would like it to be. You really do need to see it for yourself, and come to your own conclusion, folks. Just what did the panel think of this week's movie, pray tell? How can they improve upon the evil scheme? Mulholland Drive is a 2001 surrealist drama/mystery that was written and directed by David 'Garmonbozia' Lynch. The film stars Naomi Watts and Laura Harring as two women investigating the circumstances that brought Harring's character (Rita) to Watts' (Betty, not Betsie's, I promise) door. Along the way, surrealism happens. Ya know, Lynch stuff. Mulholland Drive (2001) Dir. David Lynch Starring: Naomi Watts, Laura Harring, Justin Theroux, Ann Miller, Mark Pellegrino, Robert Forster, Dan Hedaya, Angelo Badalmenti Wake up pretty girl, we're talking about David Lynch's 2001 mind-bending surrealist neo-noir mystery film Mulholland Drive. After months of waiting, Alex is finally forcing his "David Lynch era" upon the TDBR world, and coincidentally aligning with Austin's descent into hippy-ism with dream analyzation and transcendental meditation up for discussion. This genre-crossing film encapsulates soap-opera drama while also fusing itself with elements of noir, mystery, psychological-thriller, dark comedy, and horror. With top-notch direction, sound design, score, and performances, we'd have enough to talk about for a longer than average podcast - but its multi-layered story and (possible) metaphorical allusions to the lie of the "Hollywood Dream" gives us more than enough to talk about.

With an aborted 20-minute attempt to watch Mulholland Drive behind him, Brett is forced to watch the full thing, seeing Naomi Watts and Laura Harring's characters unravel before his eyes.As always with David Lynch its a challenging watch, but one that provides plenty to talk about. There's also a rude quiz, some bath chat and some other nonsense.
The network passed on David Lynch's surreal Hollywood mystery MULHOLLAND DRIVE, but the joke's on the network, because Lynch reshot the ending and released it in theaters, and won awards all over the world for how brilliant it was! MULHOLLAND DRIVE has got Naomi Watts, Laura Harring, Justin Theroux, Billy Ray Cyrus and Rebekah Del Rio. It's been called one of the best films of the century. But was it... CANCELED TOO SOON? Yes, it's true, David Lynch December has come to a close but not without one final look at a film that any list featuring the auteur's films should not be without Mulholland Drive. Following the exploits of Naomi Watts as the naive Betty, she goes on a journey through the seedy underbelly of the entertainment industry in Hollywood along Laura Harring's Rita. Not only is it one of Lynch's more approachable films, but it is also widely considered to be his finest cinematic accomplishment. The One Season Show's Jess Byard joins Chris to talk about the film, whether its a love letter to Hollywood or not, and that one scene. You can follow Chris Stachiw at @Casualty_Chris and the Kulturecast @kulturecast. This week on Unorthodox, we'd like to thank the Academy... and our three Jewish guests! First we get glammed up with shoe designer Stuart Weitzman, who tells us about getting his big break when Aretha Franklin wore his shoes to the 1983 American Music Awards, and how he made red carpet history when he designed $1 million shoes for Mulholland Drive actress Laura Harring to wear to the 2002 Oscars. Since then, the 'shoe cam' has become a standard feature of award shoe red carpets. Then film critic Jordan Hoffman returns to the show to tell us what to expect at Sunday's Academy Awards, at which only a few Jews are nominated and some non-Jews are up for Jewish roles. Finally, a special Oscars treat: Liel calls up actor Kurt Fuller, who talks about being 'that guy' in hundreds of films, including Ghostbusters II, Wayne's World, Anger Management, and just about every movie you've ever seen. Mulholland Drive is a 2001 neo-noir mystery film written and directed by David Lynch and starring Naomi Watts, Laura Harring, Justin Theroux, Ann Miller, and Robert Forster. It tells the story of an aspiring actress named Betty Elms, newly arrived in Los Angeles, who meets and befriends an amnesiac woman recovering from a car accident. The story follows several other vignettes and characters, including a Hollywood film director. Scene: Betty's Audition (https://youtu.be/fKM8zdG1a9Q) Originally conceived as a television pilot, a large portion of the film was shot in 1999 with Lynch's plan to keep it open-ended for a potential series. After viewing Lynch's cut, however, television executives rejected it. Lynch then provided an ending to the project, making it a feature film. The half-pilot, half-feature result, along with Lynch's characteristic style, has left the general meaning of the film's events open to interpretation. Lynch has declined to offer an explanation of his intentions for the narrative, leaving audiences, critics, and cast members to speculate on what transpires. Categorized as a psychological thriller, the film earned Lynch the Prix de la mise en scène (Best Director Award) at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, as well as an Academy Award nomination for Best Director.

“I hope that I never see that face ever, outside of a dream” In a first for Spoiler, this week we’re tackling a listener request by watching David Lynch’s neo-noir mystery ‘Mulholland Drive’. In an attempt to disprove his former woodwork teacher’s accusations that he is “easily distracted”, Paul keeps a tight grip on the reins as he leads the team into the labyrinthine world of Lynch’s Los Angeles. Lucid dreamer Rachael ponders whether her connection with the film indicates that she is slightly unhinged, while Andy wonders whether the horror behind Winkie’s could possibly be worse than Billy Ray Cyrus’s line-dancing. As the conversation becomes more complex than the film itself, Paul states his intention to invent a new form of toaster and learn to play the theme tune from ‘Cheers’ on the piano, while Andy and Rachael discuss whether sex and nudity in films is always exploitative and unnecessary. Elsewhere, Andy take a look at three directors whom he believes bring a greater sense of magic to their films than most mere mortals are capable of doing and the team ruminate on whether magic exists in the real world and what form it might take. This week’s scale: Not at all satisfied, Slightly satisfied, Neutral, Very satisfied or Extremely satisfied

Next 100 Project podcast #35 is a big pile of delicious intrigue. Is it also impenetrable? You want answers? We might have some! Special thanks to dozens of websites and articles for their help analyzing David Lynch’s haunting masterpiece. Naomi Watts is positively brilliant and Laura Harring is...pretty good too. Laura Harring does not fit into a neat little box. Best known for her lead role in Mulholland Drive, the charming actress is also a globetrotting former Miss USA and Countess von Bismarck. With such varied and rich life experience, it’s no wonder she possesses an eclectic vibe and natural charm that make her so captivating on screen. Recently, she has surfaced on Gossip Girl as the estranged, assumed-dead mother of Chuck Bass. Like Harring herself, there is more Elizabeth Bass than meets the eye. We had a few brief moments on March 29 to talk to Harring about Gossip Girl, Mulholland Drive and Raul Julia’s influence on her career.
