Running 44@60 Podcast - plotting Trevor Lee's journey to the 2021 44 mile Cornwall Classic Quarter
Send us a textI met Brendan Fletcher when we were both earlier this year on the England Athletics Coach in Running Fitness course. Brendan is a fully qualified tour guide and has run several ultra marathons most of which I've never heard of including:TestWay UltraDragon Coastal Ultra 100Run with No Witty NameClarendon MarathonWe also talk about Brendan's new running tour around Stonehenge based on his amazing local knowledge of the area – he lives just 1 mile from Stonehenge in combination with his sheer enthusiasm for running and his seven year experience as a tour guide. For the Stonehenge Running Tour Brendan specialises in working with groups of four people, who book with him as a group and then he will take them on a run anywhere between five and 13 miles at all times of the year. Brendan even offers as part of the service to pick people up to come on the tour from anywhere as far away from Stonehenge as Bristol in one direction and London in another direction.Brendan is a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour guide and I'm convinced that anyone going on one of his tours will have a great time and learn absolutely tons. Be ready though with your phone camera because you are going to go places that only Brendan will be able to take you.Brendan also tries to, regardless of the time of year, start each run around sunrise so you get the best views of the Stonehenge area.Brendan's non-running tours can be found at Chalkland Tours LtdYou can access and download the previous 157 episodes of this show via your usual podcast app or on the Running 44@60 podcast page. I ran my first, and so far only, ultra marathon in 2021 - the 44 mile Classic Quarter - to celebrate a landmark birthday which was a few weeks before the run. This podcast started as a way of me learning how to do that - hence why it's called Running 44@60. The adventure then turned into a book and as a business consultant it became both a business and running book and is available on Amazon via this link: 12 Business Lessons from Running an Ultra Marathon. My run raised over £7000 for Childrens Hospice South West Music Therapy programme and every book bought on Amazon generates another £5 for the programme. The Running 44@60 podcast began as a learning / motivational tool for host Trevor Lee in his quest to run a first ever ultra - the Classic Quarter in 2021 - here's the story of Running 44@60 It now has over 140 episodes and is aimed at those thinking about and committing to their first ever ultra.Trevor wrote a book : 12 Business Lessons from Running an Ultra Marathon - all proceeds go to the Children's Hospice South West
In this lucky 13th episode, horror buffs Will Dubbs and Brendan Fletcher tackle Speak No Evil, comparing the eerie 2022 Danish original with its 2024 American McAvoy-ian remake. Along for the ride is Abbie Krinsky, who got a double dose of danger this ep.The trio digs into what made the original so creepy and why Hollywood felt the need to remake it. Spoiler alert: they didn't. From the unsettling atmosphere to what got lost in translation, they debate the pros and cons and ask the age-old question—why fix what isn't broken? Don't miss it—if you're brave enough!

The Bad Boys of Horror(TM) are coming out of their [Nic] Cage and they're doing just fine, minus the baby, who is not doing that great at all after this freakishly frightful flick. Check out this episode of Two Men and a Baby, the horror movie review podcast where horror-storians Will Dubbs and Brendan Fletcher force the alarming Longlegs on resident scaredy cat Abbie Krinsky.

"Two Men and a Baby: The Half Hour-ish Horror Show" returns with a thrilling new episode on the 2007 movie, "Paranormal Activity (2007)." Horror experts Will Dubbs and Brendan Fletcher delve into the film's eerie elements and how it relates to the iconic franchise. Despite hoping he had made some scaredy-cat-strides, resident fear fellow Abbie Krinsky is terrified yet again by this cash-cow-classic.Whether you're a die-hard horror fan or just dipping your toes in the genre, Two Men and a Baby are here to guide you through.
In this 5th episode, Will Dubbs, Brendan Fletcher, and Abbie Krinsky slice into the hilariously horrifying world of the new holiday slasher flick, "Thanksgiving." Eli Roth, a favorite of Will's, stirs up a mix of amusement and skepticism among the trio. They peel back the layers of absurdity, terror, and body parts, while debating whether its comedic chops sharpen or dull the horror edge. As the boys debate the potential cult status of "Thanksgiving," you get to be the one to decide whether its recipe of laughs and scares is the perfect holiday dish or just an acquired taste. This episode of Two Men and a Baby is part critique, part comedy, and wholly delicious.

On this edition of Parallax Views, controversial German-born filmmaker Uwe Boll has alternately been called "the world's worst director", potentially "the most misunderstood filmmaker in the business" and a "legitimate auteur", "a brutish bully inclined to lash out against his detractors", "the only filmmaker interested in investigating the likelihood of a violent response to political powerlessness" and "the only director taking the events the media treats as the country's worst tragedies seriously", and an "asshole". He's taken on his critics in a boxing match. He's worked with A-list Hollywood talents like Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Ben Kingsley, Christian Slater, Elizabeth Moss, Ray Liotta, J.K. Simmons, and Burt Reynolds. He's become known for his adaptation hit video game properties like House of the Dead, Bloodrayne, Alone in the Dark, Dungeon Siege, and Postal into movies that were slammed by gamers and critics. He's been a lightning rod for controversy due to some of his movies being financed by German tax shelters. He's also made more personal films dealing with or reflecting on social issues like Wall Street corruption and the financial crisis of 2009 (Assault on Wall Street), school shootings (Heart of America), spree murders and political violence (Rampage, Rampage: Capitol Punishment, and Rampage: President Down), prison brutality (Stoic), the Holocaust (Auschwitz), the genocide in Sudan's Darfur region (Attack on Darfur), and the absurdities of war (1968 Tunnel Rats). Boll announced his retirement from directing in in 2016 with the release of Rampage: President Down, the last movie in his trilogy following the exploits of spree killer turned political terrorist Bill Williamson (played by Brendan Fletcher). During this retirement Boll kept helping produce films made by other directors, including the opioid epidemic documentary The Decline, as well as opening his own highly-lauded Vancouver-based restaurant Bauhaus. In 2022, however, Boll returned to the director's chair with Hanau (Deutschland im Winter - Part 1) or Hanau: Germany in Winter, a docudrama exploring the disturbed mind of Tobias R. and the descent into radicalization that led him to become the first recorded mass shooter inspired by the far-right wing conspiracy theory movement known as QAnon. Now, Boll is continuing his return to cinema vis-a-vis his company Event Film. His next project is First Shift, a New York City crime/cop drama set to feature Sons of Anarchy's Kristen Renton and Shades of Blue's Gino Anthony. Also in the works for the filmmaker's comeback is a biopic of Elliot Ness of The Untouchables fame dealing with the Prohibition-era law enforcement agent's attempts to solve the Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Road or Cleveland Torso Murders case. In addition to all of this the cult film distributor Unearthed Films' is soon releasing the 2013 horror anthology The Profane Exhibit containing the Boll-directed segment "The Basement" about the depraved Austrian criminal Josef Fritzl that stars noted character actor Clint Howard and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part II's Caroline Williams. Despite his busy schedule, Boll made time to chat with me for this edition of Parallax Views. I'll admit that I'm not completely objective in this conversation. I think Boll's gotten a raw deal in terms of how his films have been evaluated/perceived and I make that known in this extended discussion of his career. Rather than covering the video game adaptations he's notorious for or the infamous boxing match between Boll and his critics, this conversation focuses on Boll's early German film career, his transition to making films in Hollywood, his politics and explorations of social issues like men who "run amok", a great deal of discussion about his non-video game based movies, and more. Among the topics covered throughout this episode: - Uwe's early cinematic influences; Hollywood vs. the German New Wave cinema; Werner Herzog - Uwe's German films: the irreverent comedy German Fried Movie and the arthouse spree shooter movie Amoklauf - Uwe's dealing with the theme of people, particularly men, who "run amok" (going on rampages or killing sprees); fascination with what leads people to snap mentally - Assault on Wall Street as a subversion of the Death Wish and similar revenge movies (ie: the vigilante goes after white collar criminal than pretty street thugs); the slow-burn nature of Assault on Wall Street; the 2008 financial crisis, Bernie Madoff, and what inspired Assault on Wall Street - The overt, "in your face" politics of Assault on Wall Street and the Rampage movies - Boll's school shooting drama Heart of America; the dark side of suburbia; Brendan Fletcher's portrayal of the school bully in Heart of America; Heart of America vs. Gus Van Sant's Elephant; the narrow view a teenaged mind can have about the future and how this relates to Heart of America; sometimes we change our way too late as a theme in Heart of America - Boll's prison drama Stoic; Boll made the actors, including Terminator 2: Judgment Day's Edward Furlong, sleep in a prison cell in preparation for the film; relying on the improvisation of actors to create realism; Stoic and it's scary examination of how easy it is for people to dehumanize others - Uwe's thoughts on Russia and the war in Ukraine - Was there a specific moment that led to Uwe's political awakening?; NATO, Germany, and the Cold War; the East vs. West Germany divide; the Red Army Faction and the debated death of Ulrike Meinhof - The Rampage trilogy and its main character, the teenager turned terrorist Bill Williamson; Williamson as a character who commits violent acts that disturb the viewer but also is, disturbingly, relatable in other ways (telling certain truths about the problems with society); the realism of the violence in Rampage as a deliberate contrast to Boll's early films trying to emulate unrealistic video game-style violence - The evolution of the Bill Williamson character in the Rampage sequels; 2016's Rampage 3: President Down and the Jan 6th riots; Julian Assange and Wikileaks, Edward Snowden, the NSA, and the persecution of whistleblowers; Donald Trump's lack of pardons for the aforementioned whistleblowers - Boll's Holocaust documentary Auschwitz; portraying the dehumanization of the camps and why the film included nudity (although not nudity that was meant to titillate but rather depict the stripping of human dignity that the Nazis perpetrated against Jews; the Israeli reception to Boll's exploration of Nazi death camps in Auschwitz; why Boll played an SS guard in the film - Casting real life refugees in Attack on Darfur - Films like Auschwitz and Attack on Darfur as attempts to force us to confront the reality of atrocities and genocides; why did no one intervene in Darfur?; war, profits, and exploitation; political violence, terrorism, and state violence - Who was Tobias R., the German QAnon spree shooter? Why tell his story in the docudrama Hanau: Winter in Germany; Tobias R.'s mental disturbance, isolation, manifesto, and racist, xenophobic father; the rise of Trump and the radicalization of Tobias R.; the problem of misinformation, disinformation, and the destabilization game; are we getting screwed by all sides politically?; figures like Tobias R. are not alone (ie: QAnon is a social phenomena) - The lack of common sense in the geopolitical power struggle in the world (some talk about the U.S., Russia, and China); the decline of diplomacy and the horrors of war; weapons manufacturers and war profiteering; climate change and the need to address the issues facing the environment - The historical context of Boll's irreverent comedy Postal; the War on Terror, the George W. Bush administration, and 9/11 - The censorship of the first Rampage movie in Germany - Boll's work as a producer; tax incentives and Boll's use of tax shelters (and the misperceptions people have about the use of those tax shelters); the money Boll made from DVD sales; movies like Stoic and Rampage would not have been made without the video game movies allowing Boll to make some cash to fund the later non-video game features - Advice to young filmmakers; Boll's approach to directing actors; the state of cinema today; the importance of storytelling; the problem of self-censorship in cinema; it is cheaper to shoot a movie today in many ways than it was for when Boll first started filmmaking; how to foster a good relationship with actors; taking a straightforward approach with actors; Ron Perlman's assessment of Boll's approach to working with actors - High-octane filmmaking, working on tights schedules, and practical struggles Boll and his crew face making films like House of the Dead and In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale; taking into account the role of money in film production and being able to make one's money back; working with budgetary restraints as a filmmaker; filming Alone in the Dark and anecdote about Bryan Singer, Halle Berry, and the X-Men movies - Boll's future projects; First Shift follows a day in the life of Brooklyn cops during a 12-hour shift; making a new movie about The Untouchables' Elliot Ness and the sad story of "Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run"; a little info about the Boll-produced documentary The Decline about the North American opioid epidemic and fentanyl deaths (Boll saw the epidemic first hand while running his restaurant Bauhaus in Vancouver); Boll's documentary on the Bandidos Motorcycle Club gang - And more!

Garth Jones returns with his Ozploitation segment "Pass the Amyl" and this time he's introducing Hammo to the world of "Firebite", a brand new TV show on AMC created by Warwick Thornton and Brendan Fletcher. It's all vampires in the outback hiding in the opal mines and it is everything you'd want it to be! Bonus Squid - Patreon See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
After this episode, we never speak of this movie again. If we all collectively don't mention it, it never happened and CERTAINLY isn't canon. I liked this better as a prequel to the Descent. Email us at houseof1000horrors@gmail.com Twitter & Insta: @House1KHorrors

This week, Pie and Lulu cross into an entirely new territory: the Batman mythos! We discuss the iconic DC Comics storyline Under the Red Hood and its animated movie adaptation, both about Jason Todd, a former Robin turned antagonist. Topics include our (lack of) prior knowledge about Batman comics, a haphazard rundown of the history of the Robin sidekicks, moral codes in superhero comics, and being unexpectedly sad about Batman and his adopted children. This is a Guy At The Movies Quick Bite, a miniature episode discussing relevant news, topics, issues in the film industry a bit more in-depth than on the weekly show. A few months back, Joe had the opportunity to chat with David Raymond, director of 2019's Nomis aka Night Hunter, starring Henry Cavill, Alexandra Daddario, Ben Kingsley, Stanley Tucci, and Brendan Fletcher. It was a laid back conversation about David's experience in making the film, being a part of the film industry in the midst of a pandemic, and more. Excelsior! https://comicbook.com/dc/2019/02/12/arrow-curtis-holt-william-clayton-leave-the-show/ Why the Arrowverse Shows and Friends Will Likely Leave Netflix (Date: 12 Feb 2019) Like practically every other Hollywood studio or network, WarnerMedia is set to launch its own streaming service which will seek to compete against the likes of Netflix and Hulu, as well as Disney's forthcoming launch of Disney+. And while the service is set to include plenty of new content -- including some new DC content -- like its competitor Disney, Warner Bros. is reportedly planning to pull some of its content from Netflix ahead of the launch of WarnerMedia. With Reilly telling the press that "sharing destination assets is not a good model," and the belief that said assets should be "exclusive to the service," it would seem the Arrowverse shows are likely to follow suit. Currently, The CW and Netflix have a deal which sees the channel's shows debut on the streaming service just weeks after a season wraps up. That deal, however, is set to expire this Spring, and it's not expected that it'll be renewed. As Reilly explained, Warner Bros. is very interested in putting those titles "on our platform," which means Warner Bros. would likely retain exclusive streaming rights to shows such as Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and the non-Arrowverse Black Lightning. It remains to be seen whether or not WarnerMedia will absorb the previously launched DC Universe, which is home to shows such as Titans, Young Justice: Outsiders, and the forthcoming Doom Patrol. Warner Bros. has yet to unveil an official launch date for its latest streaming service, but it is expected to arrive, at least in beta form, by year's end. As for the price point, the streaming service is expected to offer three different membership tiers, though how those will break down remains unknown at this time. https://www.cbr.com/arrowverse-friends-living-netflix-explained/ GENERAL DC NEWS Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood get engaged(Date: ) Supergirl star Melissa Benoist has announced her engagement to former castmate Chris Wood. The actress took to Instagram to share the happy news on Sunday (February 10), "Yes yes yes it will always be yes," she captioned the adorable photo, in which she showed off her massive ring. https://www.digitalspy.com/showbiz/a26295140/supergirl-melissa-benoist-engaged-chris-wood/ FEEDBACK From our last video on YouTube: Pfruit0916 First, we got a documentary and now a horror episode. It's nice that after 7yrs they are still doing new things to keep the episodes exciting and Brendan Fletcher did a great job as Stanley, he was very creepy. The one complaint I had was the amount of time spent on trying to save Dinah, it wasn't really suspenseful because we know that she survives in the flash-forwards. I'm okay with Curtis leaving, the writers seemed to be struggling to incorporate him in the story for a while now, but maybe he will show up again for the next crossover since they will probably need every hero they can get. Also, his exit gives Felicity full control of Helix, so Smoak Tech can finally rise. William going to live with his grandparents makes sense. I'm glad it wasn't Oliver sending him away for his safety but instead giving him a choice in what happens to him. I am incredibly curious about why William feel like they “abandoned” him, when we see that it was his decision to leave and olicity said they would call, visit, etc.(I appreciate the detail of having Felicity show him the trick on the Rubik's cube, since it was in the flash-forwards at the beginning of the season. But that still leaves me wonder how william knew where her office was in Smoak Tech if he left before the company was built.) Mia is the olicity baby, so I guess the transitions in 7x08 were actually clues. It makes sense, they have a son who is tech oriented like Felicity and a daughter who is a fighter like Oliver. Plus, they get to parallel Emiko/Oliver's relationship in the present with Mia/William's in the future. I remember Oliver randomly mentioning “The scroll & Key” in 7x08, I'm wondering if that's going to play into the flash-forwards because Mia has a giant key tattoo. We know from Oliver's history that all of his tattoos had significance. I'm thinking William is the scroll & Mia is the Key in this equation and that's why are being brought together after all these years. Lastly, I've noticed that many aspects of this season are like season 1. Random things happened like Walter buy Unidac industries only for them to later reveal that it was a major plot point because that company built the earthquake machine. I think they are doing that again with the fires in the Glades. We found out Emiko's mom was shot & it was covered up with a building fire. Earlier this season she helped stop a group of men who were setting a theatre on fire in the Glades. They said someone was buying up the burnt properties for cheap. I think thats Dante/The Ninth Circle and it plays a part in how the Glades rise. Professor Richard J. Hand comes to the Miskatonic London to discuss the shocking history of Le Théâtre du Grand-Guignol, the smallest stage in Paris that, from 1897 to 1962, was home to some of the most daring acts. Specializing in unique ‘live horror’ the company’s productions were often inspired from real life events exaggerated to untold and bloody extremes. Audiences were left laughing, crying, vomiting or screaming (sometimes in pain, and sometimes in pleasure...). Hand discusses both the Grand-Guignol’s time operating and the profound impact its left on horror in all forms in a class that is not for the weak of heart. More info on this class can be found here. The Joy of Comics Podcast, Episode 10: Adventures at HeroesCon 2016 With HeroesCon 2016 now officially in the books and the amazing adventures we had at this year's event still swirling around in our minds, it's time to sit back, relax, and try to make sense of it all. And to do that, we (Rich, Jordan and Kevin) have gathered in a secure location and invited a special guest - Lucas Santos - to give us his take on the con as a first-year attendee. How will his experience compare to that of us grizzled con veterans? You'll have to tune in and see. But if you're anything like us, these events are all about the comics and the creators - and we'll be discussing as many awesome artists, writers and books as one podcast can contain. We begin by taking a brief trip down HeroesCon-memory lane, and follow-up with an extensive journey up and down the wonderful weaving aisles of artists alley to chat with the likes of Jeremy Haun, Brendan Fletcher, Babs Tarr, Matt Fraction, Justin Greenwood, Rebecca Mock and more. And for the big finish, we discuss the many books we purchased in the exhibitor's area, and give you our thoughts on the ones we've managed to read so far. Over the course of the weekend, deals were found, a lot of cosplayers were photographed, and more than a few rookie mistakes were made, but we made it out alive and very happy with this year's HeroesCon. So come along as we discuss this awesome celebration of comics. This...is the Joy of Comics!

Jay and Mike recommend you catch up with "Daredevil" before it wraps up next week, and while you're at it, start reading the new "Black Canary" series. Then, Mike shares a time when Salem - Sabrina the Teenage Witch's talking cat who, by the way, has a VERY sketchy origin story - turned the world of Archie upside down with some magical meddling! Finally, we play "Super-Mundane," and ask what heroes would be the best and worst travel agents? The best might surprise you! (The worst probably won't.) Pull List: Jay: "Daredevil" (Marvel Comics), written by Mark Waid, art by Chris Samnee. The final issue, #18, comes out September 2nd. Mike: "Black Canary" (DC Comics), written by Brendan Fletcher, art by Annie Wu. Main Segment: "Archie" #636 - "The Great Switcheroo!" (Archie Comics), written by Tania Del Rio, pencilled by Gisele, inks by Rich Koslowski. Game: "Super-Mundane - Best / Worst Travel Agent?"
