Do you agree with that? Well, quite literally, it gives me a different view of the world. We're so high up on latitude that, yeah, every everything's different up here. But, you know, I think it's been actually really powerful for me. You know, one of the things we talked about in previous conversations is, you know, when we try to have an intended message come across, sometimes we do have to change somebody's perspective in order to see it clearly. And I think, coming from Alaska, we do automatically have such a different perspective. It just It lends itself to the reframing or reshaping of somebody's paradigm or perspective, and it's just, it's a wonderful place to live. It's not always easy 35 degrees this morning on my drive into the office. But you know what? It's beautiful, and it's home- and that's 35 degrees Fahrenheit. I guess we just started the fall, ended this summer? Yeah, summer here ended a few weeks ago, I think, if we're being honest. But yeah, 35 degrees Fahrenheit. So like one, one degree, two degrees Celsius, it's, it's, it's crisp out there. But you know what we had? We had a huge black bear come through our yard. The other day. We had a lynx outside. And where we live in Anchorage. it's 300,000 people. It's a normal town. We're now out in the boonies, but we live on the very edge of Anchorage, so we get wildlife in our backyard all the time. And it's such a blessing. ----- ----more---- Your Intended Message is the podcast about how you can boost your career and business success by honing your communication skills. Are you intimidated by the idea of talking about money? Conversations around money in marriage can often be intimidating. Even the idea of combining two completely different lifestyles under one roof, carries its own fears and expectations. This is why communication is key to managing money as a couple. Without the collective ability to disclose personal debt accumulations, spending habits, savings goals, and financial fears with each other, you won’t be able to work together to build the financial freedom that you desire as a couple. In this episode of the Redefining Wealth Podcast, my husband Gerald and I will be sharing some of the money lessons that we’ve learned over the last 13 years of marriage, as well as the steps we’ve taken to help us have intimidating money conversations. When thinking about the lessons my Mom taught me as a child I am reminded of Proverbs 31. Yes, she is a virtuous woman, but I specifically remember the passage which said “she watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness (Proverbs 31:27 NIV). Her goal for her children was to teach how to manage household finances and prepare them for a prosperous future. We share that goal in this episode as we will talk about the lessons we learned. TODAY'S CONVERSATION What Mom said about: Saving and putting money away for emergencies Making sure there was plenty for the family, I didn't know I was considered poor Shopping without going into debt, lay-a-away Credit Cards, yes with proper use Dealing with creditors when you don't seem to have enough A WORD FROM WESLIA and WILLA We believe in living abundantly in Christ and not allowing money to pull your focus from the gracious God who gives us all the ability to produce wealth. Our goal for you is faith in Christ, confidence in managing your finances and the ability to live a fulfilled life of purpose. Welcome to Woman Leadership show. I'm Janet and in this episode, I will be sharing with you about financial blueprintWhen I first started my job and into 10 years, I was earning less than $2,000 and not getting my variable bonus more than 1 month. I was spending more than what I earned and my salary was all spent on going out with friends or pampering myself with hair services, spa, pedicure, manicure for myself. I would signed up packages and almost went into 5 figure debt due to credit card spending. After I attended Secrets of Millionaire Mind by T Har Eker program, I learned about my own financial blueprint and the emotional behaviours that are attached to my spending habits. As I wanted to feel good about myself and want others to like me, so I was very generous in treating friends to meals, buying gifts for them without expecting them to do the same for me. However, when I was in debt and broke, no one offered to help me except my husband who was my boyfriend then. When I learned the Jar system, I started to have the habit of putting in the monthly salary into the jar system. FFA, Savings (LT and ST), Education, Charity, Neccessities. I would also put the change from my daily expense at the end of the day to put it into jar to grow the money. I would also do that with my children when they were younger. I believed the best way to learn is to teach and so we can do it as a family activity to inculcate the money blueprint in them. That helped them to inculcate the concept about setting aside money from what they have and we will have them placed it in their bank after they have saved enough. We can do this as fun activity and also helped them to learn through experiential using the Jars. TakeawayStart educating yourself by reading a book or getting financial expert to advise you in ways you can start. Focus on your end in mind why you want to do this. If you want to achieve 10,000 savings by year end, you can start looking at how much savings per month, what are the expenses you can reduce. Be consistent in the habit of saving and growing the money. It is tempting to spend what you have save but think of the why you are saving for long time. It is about shifting your mindset and your beliefs about money. Once the mental block is cleared, it will impact your behaviours and feelings about money. Look for support and coach or mentor who can help you to clear your mental block so you can move forward. I hope that through my sharing, it draws inspiration and personal reflection for you. I believe every woman can be a leader in your own way. Connect with me through Facebook, Instagram and Linkedin. My links will be in the show notes https://shor.by/leaderonlineI look forward to seeing you in my next episode where I will be sharing with you tips and ways to realize your full potential as a leader on Woman Leadership.
