Y'all know about pretty privilege right? It's when you get certain attention or get things easier based on your looks and beauty. Well, petty privilege works the same way. Sometimes when you're so petty, (especially to someone the public doesn't like) you can get away with almost anything. That's a common trait with some of the people that we're speaking about today. Kendrick Lamar has proved that he's the king of being petty, Shannon Sharpe has been petty all of his life. Taraji P Henson is petty but y'all don't give her the same grace as everyone else (we know why). Pharell is petty too we keep it on the low. So as we move through this episode, think about one thing. How can one person be so petty?Links:https://www.instagram.com/ericcurryiii/https://www.instagram.com/artsblockpodcast/https://linktr.ee/ArtsBlock --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/eric-curry-iii/support
Taraji P. Henson is an actress, producer and mental health advocate. Taraji has shined in roles like “Hidden Figures”, “Empire”, and her latest project, “Fight Night”. Throughout her life and career, Taraji has overcome naysayers, proving who she is and what she has to offer. Taraji joins Hoda Kotb for season 6 of Making Space to talk about the importance of using your voice, speaking your truth and fighting for what you deserve.
When Taraji P. Henson faced challenges finding a therapist for herself and her son, it ignited a mission to tackle the mental health barriers impacting Black and marginalized communities. In this episode, Sharlee Dixon sits down with Tracie Jade Jenkins, the Executive Director of the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation (BLHF). Founded in 2018, BLHF is dedicated to prioritizing mental health in Black communities through culturally competent resources, programs, and education across the nation. This initiative was born from a deeply personal story of loss and frustration. Taraji, alongside her close ally Tracie, launched the foundation to honor the memory of Taraji's father, Boris Lawrence Henson—a Vietnam War veteran who faced untreated mental health issues upon his return. Witnessing the lasting impact of Boris's struggles, Taraji and Tracie were driven to address the glaring lack of culturally relevant mental health support in the Black community. Join us as we explore Tracie's journey, the transformative work of BLHF, and the ongoing efforts to reshape mental health support for Black communities. When we face self-doubt, we may find ourselves not believing in our own innate abilities, or we might even decide to turn away from our aspirations in the belief that we're not “good enough” to get where we want to be. When we willfully stop listening to the voices that tell us we can't do it, and replace our fears with faith, a transformative effect takes place that allows us to believe in ourselves again and realize that our dreams are worth chasing. Our first guest is the multi-talented Taraji P. Henson. Taraji is not only a renowned actress but also a dedicated mother, philanthropist, author, director, and producer. Though Taraji had dreams of becoming an actress, early rejection caused her to question herself, and move in a different direction. It took the words of her trusted father to remind her what she was made for, and to find the courage to chase her dreams. Later in the episode, we'll hear from actress and filmmaker Sope Aluko. For over two decades, Sope built a successful corporate career. However, the passion for acting never left her. After the loss of her parents, and a time of personal reassessment, she awakened the dream in her heart and decided to pursue her first love of acting.
