Drs. Humphries and Swigris describe how AI-driven CT analysis can detect subtle imaging features of ILD and UIP, outperforming visual reads for risk stratification and prognosis. They highlight how these tools may enable earlier identification of patients at high risk for fibrosis progression while also stressing current limitations, including opacity of algorithms, data dependence, and the need to adapt imaging hardware and clinical workflows.

Drs. Swigris and Humphries discuss how data-driven texture analysis (DTA) on HRCT enables precise, objective quantification of fibrotic burden in ILD, overcoming the limitations of semi-quantitative visual scoring and blunt physiologic measures. They further describe a complementary AI-based classifier that predicts histologic usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) patterns from CT, enhancing prognostication and potentially reducing the need for surgical lung biopsy.

In Part I of a series on the Israel lobby, Stephen Walt, professor of international affairs at Harvard and co-author of the book "The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy," discusses the effect of the lobby on U.S. foreign policy and the ongoing war in Gaza. The Israel lobby is an informal alliance of various interest groups that work to foster unconditional American support for Israel by pressuring Congress, the executive branch, media institutions and the academy. Professor Walt argues that this unconditional support runs counter to U.S. national interests. The consequences, which include the stalled and defunct peace process and U.S. complicity in Israel's apartheid system and “plausible genocide” in Gaza, have seriously damaged the credibility of the United States and threatened its foreign policy priorities.  Walt notes the biggest factor that explains the continuining overwhelming support in the U.S. Congress for Israel's war in Gaza  is the  Israel lobby. Backing for Israel's military campaign continues in Washington despite domestic and international pressure to end the war,  which is devastating Gaza and has killed 31,000 people. Subsequent episodes in the new UIP series will examine how the Israel lobby started and evolved, how it operates and why it is so effective.

La Asamblea del Ecuador, a través de la legisladora Rina Campain, de la Comisión de Ciencia y Tecnología de la Unión Interparlamentaria (UIP), participó de la conmemoración del Día Internacional del Parlamentarismo, cita cumplida en Montevideo, Uruguay. Con esta oportunidad, la UIP desarrolló varias actividades, que incluyeron la reunión de su Comité Ejecutivo, para la edición del 288 período ordinario de sesiones. Paralelamente, el cónclave internacional, conjuntamente con el Parlamento de Uruguay, organizó el Seminario Regional sobre Cambio Climático para los Parlamentos de América Latina y el Caribe, un diálogo crítico a nivel interparlamentario para mejorar la acción climática en la región. Los representantes de varios países de Latinoamérica y otras latitudes tuvieron la oportunidad de compartir las mejores prácticas, experiencias y lecciones aprendidas de sus esfuerzos nacionales para abordar el cambio climático, a través de la implementación del Acuerdo de París. “La historia de la UIP representa una esperanza y el increíble poder que tienen los países cuando trabajan juntos. Nuestros fundadores en 1889 entendieron que el diálogo y la diplomacia parlamentaria eran las formas más efectivas para resolver los desacuerdos en ese momento. Hoy, esos valores fundamentales nunca han sido más relevantes con un mundo que enfrenta la guerra, el hambre y la emergencia climática.
