This week on Toilet Radio: Gen X Correspondent Ian sits down with acclaimed film, video game, and television composer Bear McCreary. For folks unfamiliar, Bear has composed music for everything from Battlestar Galactica, God of War, The Walking Dead, and The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power. Bear tells us the origins of his desire to put out heavy metal albums after working with Brendon Small, Serj Tankian, and Gene Hoglan on a track for Godzilla: King of Monsters (2019). Now on his second album of his Singularity arc, Bear tells us about getting every heavy hitter in hard rock and heavy metal to join him in releasing tunes. Gen X Ian presses Gene on drum quantization and sampling, the economics of recording drums, and sequencing music for a modern metal sound. Is releasing a metal record a sound financial investment? Hear it from a world-renowned musician himself, “Absolutely not!” This is an excellent interview. Enjoy! Music featured on this ‘sode: Bear McCreary – Black Box (feat. Joe Duplantier) This program is available on Spotify. It is also available on iTunes or whatever they call it now, where you can rate, review, and subscribe. In 1956, Italy's most opulent ocean liner went down off Nantucket after a head-on collision in the fog, taking 46 lives and earning a place among the worst maritime disasters in history. But the dying didn't stop there — in the seven decades since, the wreck dubbed the "Mt. Everest of Wreck Diving" has claimed roughly 18 more souls, swallowing the divers drawn to its depths and feeding whispers that something down there is cursed.EPISODE BLOG PAGE (includes sources and full transcript): https://weirddarkness.com/andreadoriaFEATURED STORIES IN THIS EPISODE: Movies like Shaun of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead, World War Z, and TV shows like The Walking Dead, have made the subject of zombies a fairly popular topic over recent years. And while we all know these undead creatures are purely make-believe, the idea of the zombie has been around for thousands of years… and in the Voodoo culture, they've found a way to make zombies a real, horrifying thing. (The Disturbing Truth Behind Voodoo Zombies) *** In July of 1956, the SS Andrea Doria collided with another ship and quickly sank to the bottom of the ocean. Today it is a tourist destination for brave divers who not only want to see something hauntingly beautiful, but who also dare to investigate a wreck that has been deemed by many to be cursed – and for good reason. (The Cursed Remains of the SS Andrea Doria) *** Paranormal author and researcher G. Michael Vasey tells of a personal incident that took place recently where he saw what could be described as a “peripheral person”. (Peripheral People) *** Sir Clive Sinclair might have been a man ahead of his time. The late inventor created all manner of strange and wonderful gadgets – most of which you've likely never heard of. But that doesn't mean you can say they were failures. (The Inventor of Weird Contraptions) *** If the legends are to believed, you'll want to avoid driving down Nan Tucks Lane in East Sussex - unless you don't mind coming into contact with a vengeful ghost. (The Witch of Nan Tucks Lane) *** Where in the bible do we see the story of fallen angels sleeping with women to produce a breed of giants? Most would point to the book of Genesis – but in the unincluded book of Enoch, it tells a more-detailed account, worthy of a horror movie. (The Story of Giants and Fallen Angels) *** Some people collect baseball cards, others coins, and others Pokemon. There's no telling what someone might find enough of an interest in to begin collecting. And collecting books is one of the most common – but when your collecting becomes a compulsion and you can't stop yourself, it can get out of hand. Just ask Thomas Phillipps… the man who was addicted to books… to an extreme level. In this episode, Travis Chappell and producer Eric dive into the business behind entertainment franchises, streaming rights, and why intellectual property can become one of the most valuable assets in media. Using The Walking Dead as the centerpiece of the conversation, they break down how legacy TV shows continue generating hundreds of millions of dollars long after their original run, the economics behind licensing content to streaming platforms like Netflix, and why some media companies struggle even with iconic brands. The conversation also explores storytelling, bingeability, and what creators can learn from both hit and failed entertainment properties. On this episode we talk about: Why AMC is exploring new licensing deals for The Walking Dead The economics of intellectual property and streaming rights Why some TV shows become timeless rewatchable hits while others fade away The differences between bingeable sitcoms and serialized dramas What creators and entrepreneurs can learn from the unpredictable nature of hit media Top 3 Takeaways Intellectual property becomes exponentially more valuable when it gains cultural relevance and long-term audience loyalty. Even massive production budgets and star actors cannot guarantee success — timing, audience connection, and luck still play major roles. Companies grow faster when they focus on their core strengths instead of trying to control every piece of distribution themselves. Notable Quotes “The currency is attention.” “You can't just decide that something's going to end up like Seinfeld.” “Having a plan does not mean it's going to be successful.” Connect with Travis Chappell: Instagram: @travischappell Website: https://travischappell.com A Word from Our Sponsors: Are you ready to start your own creator journey and make it big? Reposted from Walking Dead ‘Cast, which you can find at: https://podcastica.com/podcast/the-cast-of-us — What a breath of fresh air this episode is after the intensity and trauma of the season so far. The lightness and warmth of it are such a welcome relief. And what a milestone it is to see Rick and Michonne finally get together. The first time around it felt abrupt to some, but this rewatch has made it clear they were destined for each other from the moment they met. We're happy to be joined this week by special guest Clare Reterrer, one of the biggest Rick/Michonne shippers I know.

Opening hook / origin Chris, you've said that roadside coyote scene was the first thing you wrote, even before you knew the full story. What was it about that moment that felt like the right entry point into this world? 2. Tone and influences You're blending eco-horror and neo-noir in a really striking way here. What's each of your relationship to those genres—are there specific books or films that shaped how you approached them, or personal favorites that were on your mind while making this? 3. The prose chapter choice That opening prose chapter from Oilfield Graveyard: Tales of the Wildcatter Myth is such a bold structural swing. What does prose allow you to do that comics alone wouldn't, especially in setting up the mythology? 4. The Wildcatter as a presence The Wildcatter evolves from something almost abstract in issue #2 to something disturbingly human in issue #3. How did you approach revealing it piece by piece without losing the mystery? 5. Character and transformation The grandmother's descent is genuinely unsettling. How did you think about her transformation in relation to the oil itself, is it possession, corruption, or something more symbolic? 6. Visual storytelling and horror lineage Charlie, you spent years defining the visual language of long-form horror on The Walking Dead. When you approach a story like this, how does that experience inform your instincts—and where do you find yourself deliberately doing something different? 7. Pacing and silent storytelling Charlie, one thing that really stands out is how much space you're given for quiet, atmospheric sequences—scenes that breathe and flow without a lot of dialogue or overt plot movement. How do you approach pacing those moments visually so they still feel propulsive, and what do you think comics can do in those silent stretches that other mediums can't? 8. Fun / silly question: If the Wildcatter had a playlist, what's the one song that absolutely has to be on it?

Jeff and Lufisto kick off Season 3 of the Legends and Future Greats (LFG) show with a status update on Lufisto's "titanium" shoulder recovery and a deep dive into the recent wave of WWE releases. They compare the current state of NXT/Evolve talent to The Walking Dead, meticulously analyzing why athletes like Tyra May Steele and Trill London may have struggled despite their high pedigrees. The duo explores the shift in the LFG format, focusing on Shawn Michaels' need to replenish the roster following call-ups to Raw and SmackDown. The conversation moves from the technical aspects of "professional courtesy" during ring entrances to the psychological drive needed to handle blunt critiques from coaches like Booker T and Kevin Owens. They conclude by breaking down the "phony baloney" of reality-TV-style signings, the importance of "menace" in a wrestler's presence, and a sharp critique of TKO's security failures following a recent fan incident.0:00 – Season 3 Intro / Lufisto's successful shoulder surgery recovery 4:30 – WWE releases: Comparing the NXT roster to The Walking Dead 11:15 – The "Matt Bloom" factor: Why heart matters more than athleticism at the PC 18:30 – Talent Status Reports: Nikita Lyons, Shiloh Hill, and Drake Monroe 24:00 – New Season Format: No points, no teams, just replenishing the roster 28:15 – Meet the Coaches: Kevin Owens' neck surgery and Natalia's Dungeon training 38:00 – Match 1 Breakdown: Nikita Lyons vs. Kelly Armstrong & the rules of "Professional Courtesy" 46:30 – Technical Critique: Snap bumps, leg drop splits, and slowing down the pacing 52:45 – Keanu Carver's Backstory: From college football and DoorDash to fighting with Booker T 1:04:30 – Kevin Owens' Advice: Making your offense match your presence 1:11:00 – Match 2 Breakdown: Kendall Gray vs. PJ Vasser & the origin of the name 1:16:45 – "Happy Feet" and Selling: The psychology of big girl vs. small girl dynamics 1:21:15 – Season Teasers: The "phony baloney" of the Kendall Gray signing 1:24:00 – Wrap-up: Lufisto's documentary "The Selling Stage" and TKO's security failures Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/wrestling-soup--1425249/support.

Rage-inducing viruses that spread through bites; a flesh-eating fungus that controls its host like a puppet; deadly pathogens trapped for millennia in Arctic ice… sometimes nature is more gruesome than fiction. From the Walking Dead to the Last of Us, stories of contagion are never far from our screens. So what are the closest real-life scenarios that could turn our world into a full-on zombie wasteland? (And, what makes insects go on a sex-crazed, amphetamine-fuelled rampage until their literal butts fall off?)
