Send us Fan MailRyan is back on Ones Ready with Aaron and Peaches to talk drones, TACP, small unmanned aerial systems, one-way attack, and where small team warfare is headed.Ryan is a TACP officer, Guardsman, and founder of Aerial Employment Group, a company focused on SUAS training, red air support, counter-SUAS training, program development, and helping military and law enforcement teams figure out what drone systems actually work.In this episode, the crew talks about how small unmanned aerial systems are changing the fight, where drones actually make sense for small teams, how TACP units are using SUAS to support JTAC skills, why one-way attack is becoming a major focus, and why the military's drone approval and certification process has to move faster. They also get into the reported Zulu course ruck issue, heavy ruck standards, heat casualties, training risk, ownership, and what happens when events drift away from their original purpose. Ryan gives perspective from the TACP side, including how heavy rucks showed up in the TACP pipeline and why evaluated events need to be tied to real standards.Ryan's company:aerialemploymentgroup.comCheck out Tasty Gains:TastyGains.comGear from ATACLETE:OnesReady.comTrain with us:OperatorTrainingSummit.comChapters:00:00 - Ones Ready Intro01:00 - Tasty Gains, ATACLETE, and Operator Training Summit Updates03:24 - Disclaimer for Ryan's Personal Views04:06 - Welcome Ryan Back to Ones Ready05:24 - Ryan's Background and Move to the Guard06:14 - Aerial Employment Group and SUAS Services07:32 - Government Contracting and Expensive Gear08:15 - Low-Cost Drone Tech and Commercial Off-the-Shelf Equipment09:17 - Drone Warfare and Small Team Use Cases09:52 - Drones Are a Tool, Not the Answer to Everything10:37 - ISR, Team Support, and Who Should Fly Drones12:00 - Quadcopters vs. Larger Group Two and Group Three Drones13:01 - Transition to the Zulu Course Ruck Discussion15:13 - What Happened With the Zulu Course Ruck?16:10 - TACP Instructors and the Zulu Block Two Link17:00 - Reported 10-Mile Ruck Standard and Load18:49 - First Summer Class and Heat Casualty Reports19:23 - Medical Coverage and Student Paramedics20:46 - Heat Conditions, Uniforms, and Safety Decisions23:03 - What Dry Weight Means in Rucking23:39 - Ryan's TACP Schoolhouse Ruck Experience25:41 - Evaluations, Standards, and Protecting the Process27:22 - Training Drift and Leadership Decisions28:00 - What Do You Tell Students After an Incident?29:17 - Owning Bad Decisions as a Leader29:55 - When to Call Off a Training Event31:10 - Ranger School Rope Story and Extreme Ownership33:11 - Parents, Students, and Today's Connected Pipeline35:29 - Why TACP Did Heavy Rucks37:00 - Does This Standard Apply to Every AFSPECWAR Career Field?38:16 - Parent Involvement and Pipeline Communication41:26 - Time, Emotions, and Letting the Schoolhouse Respond43:47 - Accountability Without Cancel Culture46:27 - Medical Planning and After-Action Reviews49:17 - Back to SUAS and TACP Drone Use51:15 - TACP as ACC's One-Way Attack Lead52:00 - How TACP Units Are Using SUAS Now53:20 - ACC, AFSOC, and SUAS Program Ownership54:42 - SUAS Programmatics and Airframe Certification56:00 - Blue UAS, NDAA Systems, and FPV Drone Risk58:16 - Building and Flying Non-Standard Drone Systems59:08 - Frequencies, Jamming, and Ukraine Drone Lessons01:00:00 - Stop Being Platform Specific01:01:20 - Certification, Currency, and Drone Training Problems01:02:22 - Final Thoughts and Wrap-UpSupport the showJoin this channel to get access to perks: HEREBuzzsprout Subscription page:  HERERegister for our Operator Training Summit:  OperatorTrainingSummit.comFind an Air Force Recruiter: AirForce.comCollabs:Ones Ready - OnesReady.com 18A Fitness - Promo Code:  ONESREADY ATACLete - Follow the URL (no promo code):  ATACLeteDanger Close Apparel - Promo Code:  ONESREADYDFND Apparel...

Send us Fan MailPeaches is back with the May 20 Daily Drop, and this one's got everything: shrinking bonuses, carrier problems, Iranian escalation, NATO chaos, and the Pentagon throwing half a billion dollars at counter-drone tech. The United States Army keeps pushing force transformation while Europe braces for more U.S. troop withdrawals. Poland is openly stressing about losing American presence—and the billions that come with it. Meanwhile the United States Navy says the plumbing drama aboard the USS Gerald R. Ford was exaggerated, while the new Boeing MQ-25 Stingray finally moves toward deployment. Then the United States Air Force cuts reenlistment bonuses, grounds the entire Northrop T-38 Talon fleet after another crash, and keeps testing rapidly deployable special operations aircraft built for the next fight.Overseas? Iran is setting up control over the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. intelligence says mines are already in place, NATO accidentally shot down a Ukrainian drone over Estonia, and everybody keeps inching closer to a larger regional problem.Bottom line: the future battlefield is moving faster than the bureaucracy trying to manage it.⏱️ Timestamps:00:00 Tasty Gains & OTS Updates 02:00 Las Vegas OTS? 03:00 More U.S. Troops Leaving Europe 05:00 Why Poland Wants Americans to Stay 07:00 Army Transformation Hits Resistance 09:00 Legacy Equipment vs Modern Warfare 11:00 USS Ford Plumbing Drama 13:00 Boeing MQ-25 Stingray Cleared for Deployment 15:00 Super Hornets Landing on Iwo Jima 17:00 Air Force Slashes Reenlistment Bonuses 21:00 Why Bonuses Actually Disappear 24:00 Northrop T-38 Talon Fleet Grounded 26:00 AFSOC's Deployable Skyraider Concept 29:00 Pentagon Drops $500M on Counter-Drone Systems 31:00 Pete Hegseth Reviews Military Legal System 33:00 Donald Trump Eyes Iran Again 35:00 Taiwan Becomes a Negotiating Chip 37:00 Iran Tightens Grip on Hormuz 39:00 NATO Shoots Down Ukrainian Drone 41:00 U.S. Finds Mines in the Strait 43:00 Final Thoughts

Discover how these trailblazers have navigated the evolution of medical simulation, turning traditional training on its head and preparing medics for the chaotic and high-pressure environments they may face. Their stories reveal the critical role that high-fidelity simulators play in equipping healthcare professionals with the skills needed to manage physiological disparities, chaos control, and patient responsibility.     In a riveting conversation about the advancement of simulation technology, Jason and Lou explore the transition from traditional mentorship to cutting-edge, AI-driven simulators. By weaving personal experiences with industry shifts, they illuminate how medical education has undergone a dramatic transformation over the past 30 years. Their discourse reveals the monumental challenges and triumphs of integrating simulation technologies into both military and civilian healthcare settings, with a focus on the unique demands of combat medicine and on how AI is poised to further revolutionize this field.     Jason and Lou discuss the pressing need for anatomically accurate simulators, particularly for female soldiers. They provide an eye-opening look at how these innovations are dismantling social and psychological barriers and are vital for training efficacy. They candidly discuss the psychological toll of combat on healthcare providers and the irreplaceable value of real-life experience, underscoring that while simulation is a bridge for skill development, it cannot fully substitute the lessons learned from treating real patients. Join us in this compelling episode to understand how simulation is not just a tool but a pivotal element in preparing medics for the unforgiving realities of the battlefield.   Chapters: (00:04) Evolution of Military Medicine Simulation (09:55) Advancing Medical Simulation in Healthcare (17:31) Simulation Training in Special Operations (23:17) Medical Simulation Advancements for Training (36:17) Military Simulation Technology and AI (49:20) Preparing Military Medics with Simulation   Chapter Summaries: (00:04) Evolution of Military Medicine Simulation   Military medics discuss simulation technology, physiological disparities, and leadership lessons in chaotic environments.   (09:55) Advancing Medical Simulation in Healthcare   Commercialization of medical simulation technology, its integration into military medicine, and its impact on patient care.   (17:31) Simulation Training in Special Operations   Simulation, training standards, and cultural barriers are addressed in AFSOC's journey to improve special operations medical training.   (23:17) Medical Simulation Advancements for Training   Female simulators provide safe and effective training for military medics, addressing gender disparities and ensuring consistency.   (36:17) Military Simulation Technology and AI   AI has the potential to enhance medical simulation, with challenges in technology development and differences between military and civilian healthcare settings.   (49:20) Preparing Military Medics With Simulation   Medical simulators prepare healthcare professionals for combat trauma, but cannot replace real-life experience.   Take Home Messages: The Role of Medical Simulation in Military Medicine: The episode highlights the transformative impact of medical simulation technology on military medicine, emphasizing its role in preparing medics for high-stress and austere environments. It underscores how advancements in simulation, particularly with the integration of artificial intelligence, have enhanced the realism and effectiveness of medical training. Evolution from Defense to Healthcare: The conversation traces the journey of medical simulation technology from its origins in defense innovation during the early '90s to its widespread adoption in both military and civilian healthcare settings. This transition has replaced traditional mentorship models with high-fidelity simulators, revolutionizing medical education and training. Advancements in Anatomically Accurate Simulators: A significant development discussed is the creation of anatomically accurate female simulators, which address social and psychological barriers in medical training. These innovations ensure that medics are better prepared for real-world scenarios, particularly in treating female soldiers, thereby improving training efficacy. Continuous Training and Readiness: The importance of continuous training to maintain readiness is emphasized, especially in the context of military medicine where skill erosion can occur between conflicts. Simulation technology provides a safe environment for medics to practice and refine their skills, ensuring they are prepared for future challenges. Ethical Considerations in Simulation Technology: The episode also touches on the ethical and moral considerations in developing realistic simulation technologies. While simulators are essential for skill development, they cannot fully replicate the emotional and psychological challenges of real-life trauma, highlighting the need for a balanced approach in training methodologies.   Episode Keywords: military medics, trauma training, high-fidelity simulators, Operative Experience Incorporated, Jason Robbins, Lou Orberndorf, anatomical simulators, female simulators, training technology, medical education, combat medicine, civilian healthcare, simulation technology, patient care, chaos management, medical training, military healthcare, podcast episode   Hashtags: #wardocs #military #medicine #podcast #MilMed #MedEd #MilitaryMedicine #MedicalSimulation #CombatCare #HealthcareInnovation #AIMedicalTraining #CivilianHealthcare #MilitaryMedics #TraumaTraining #MedicalTechnology #SimulationAdvancements **This episode was supported by an educational grant provided by Operative Experience Inc.** Honoring the Legacy and Preserving the History of Military Medicine The WarDocs Mission is to honor the legacy, preserve the oral history, and showcase career opportunities, unique expeditionary experiences, and achievements of Military Medicine. Trident Room Podcast host U.S. Army Maj. Eric Czaja has a conversation with NPS Department of Defense Analysis students U.S. Air Force Maj. Bobby Strain and U.S. Air Force Maj. Tim Marti. This episode was recorded on August 31, 2024. Maj. Bobby Strain is a U.S. Air Force senior pilot with more than 2,450 flying hours in the C-5M and KC-135R/T. A 2011 ROTC graduate of the Colorado School of Mines, he has flown missions worldwide, including combat missions in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Resolute Support, Inherent Resolve, and Freedom's Sentinel. Maj. Tim Marti is also a U.S. Air Force senior pilot with more than 2,000 hours flying the U-28 and other various AFSOC aircraft, including combat missions in Operation Inherent Resolve. Together, Strain and Marti have authored a joint thesis entitled “Airpower Beyond the Runway: Amphibious Aircraft to Enhance Agility in INDOPACOM.” Their thesis explores how seaplanes, specifically amphibious aircraft, can support the U.S. Joint Force while also creating challenges for adversaries in the Indo-Pacific. The study explores the limitations of current assets and the advantages of utilizing seaplanes in two fictional scenarios. Utilizing a mixed methods qualitative/quantitative approach to compare seaplanes against various platforms – including aircraft, ships, boats, and submarines – the study showcases the seaplane's unique advantages due to its speed, range, and access to remote locations. The study concludes with a series of recommendations for the DOD to inform decision-makers of the potential for investment in amphibious aircraft, and suggests courses of action to validate the requirement. ----------------- The Trident Room Podcast is brought to you by the Naval Postgraduate School Alumni Association and the Naval Postgraduate School Foundation. www.npsfoundation.org For comments, suggestions, and critiques, please email us at TridentRoomPodcastHost@nps.edu, and find us online at nps.edu/tridentroompodcast. We did a contracting episode a few weeks ago where we aired out a few grievances mostly focused on how strength and conditioning coaches in contracted roles with the military are treated. In that conversation we acknowledged that we have limited experience with contracting, and we were open to having an expert come on and set the record straight.  As it happens, this week's guest is exactly the kind of expert we were looking for. Chris Larkin is LMR Technical Group CEO and Cofounder and his background covers enlisted and officer service in Air Force Special Warfare and extensive involvement in military human performance in multiple different roles. Chris spent 28 years total in the Air Force as an enlisted Combat Controller and Special Tactics Officer, starting to advocate for military human performance initiatives even before commissioning. He served as the first Squadron Commander at the Special Tactics Training Squadron and helped establish the Combat Athlete Program (which pre-dated SOCOM POTFF) working with AF Research Lab and USAFA Human Performance Lab. He had HPO specific facilities built at the STTS and 23 Special Tactics Squadron – some of the first built in the DoD and even ran one of the first ever Human Performance Symposiums (bringing in industry, academia, and other military units to help solve HPO problems). He wrote his thesis at the Joint Advanced Warfighting School (JAWS) on “Combat Fitness a Concept Vital to National Defense” and was an Operational Squadron commander when POTFF came to AFSOC and even deployed HPO staff into Afghanistan to expedite the recovery process. His credentials include a bachelors in Exercise Science, Master Fitness Trainer, ACSM Exercise Leader, and USA Triathlon Coach. He's also an accomplished athlete in his own right. He ran Division 1 Cross Country and Southwest Texas State University. He has represented the Air Force in downhill skiing, triathlon, pentathlon, and Ironman - including 3 Ironman finishes. And he has 3,000 parachute jumps – including numerous demonstrations at events including NFL, MLB, NASCAR.

Episode Summary: In Episode 132 of the Aerospace Advantage, Humans Are More Important Than Hardware: SOF Truth #1, John “Slick” Baum chats with longtime AFSOC pilot Col Sarah Brehm, veteran defense leader Mr. Jim “Hondo” Geurts, and AFSOC Special Tactics Officer Lt Col Steve Cooper about the United States Special Operations Command's core values, what they call SOF Truths. These tenets have defined the culture of SOCOM since 1987, which means they've connected special operators across different service components for generations—and this includes Air Force Special Operations. The first SOF Truth declares that “humans are more important than hardware.” However, given that technology permeates today's battlefields more than ever, what does this really mean? To this point, how does the Department of Defense emphasize the importance of our human capital when the budget is geared toward the procurement of new hardware? We also explore how this ideal applies to the broader conventional force. Before there was Air Force Special Tactics, there was Chief Master Sergeant retired Wayne Norrad. Chief Norrad started his career before the Air Force knew exactly what Combat Control was going to be and ended his career as the Second AFSOC Command Chief, and the accepted Godfather of what we know Special Tactics to be today.  Chief Norrad is the definition of the word "legend", which is why we asked him to come on and tell us his story; it was so amazing we had to break it into 2 parts! Huge thanks to Chief Norrad, we truly appreciate his impact on Combat Control and Air Force Special Tactics as a whole! Welcome to the Do Hard Things Podcast with your host Jay Tiegs, Are you ready to amplify and improve your life? Then you are in the right place. On this podcast we have unfiltered conversation with inspiring people who take on challenges and share with us, the wisdom from their journey. We talk about how doing hard things adequately enable all of us to deal with life's struggles and challenges and ultimately improve the quality of our lives. In this episode, we talk about finding direction with Andrew Beattie from Azimuth X.  Andrew Beattie is an Air Force veteran (AFSOC), Air Traffic Controller, and founder of Azimuth X, a leadership and management training and coaching company. Over the years, he struggled with working for and listening to experiences of bad organizational leadership and management.  Andrew enrolled in countless courses and read countless books to learn more about the respective fields. Eventually, at 18, he had his first management position and started to gain experience. Combining what he learned, his experiences, and finding great mentors, he could piece together the reasons, so many people were having these bad experiences with leaders/managers. It boiled down to two main things: Lack of training and what courses were taught. Andrew's mission is to move people in the right direction on their leadership and management journeys through proper instruction of time-tested methods, building structure, and continuing education. With his methods, he has built effective and efficient organizational cultures, teams, and individuals. If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts/iTunes?
