Accent of Women

Operation Inglenook is an initiative by the Australian Border Force which claims to focus on identifying exploitation and potential victims of trafficking and modern slavery. This harmful - and unsuccessful - approach unfairly targets the sex industry, leading to invasive workplace raids, canceled visas, detention and deportation. This is very distressing for migrant sex workers, no matter their visa status. Operation Inglenook is a racist, violent campaign targeting Asian-migrant sex workers through workplace and border raids. Today's speeches are from a rally held on 17 April 2025 and are: Bee from Justice for our sisters, Penny who is a migrant sex worker, and a statement from the The Asian Migrant Sex Worker Advisory Group (AMSWAG).

On this week's program, we hear from Bee and Rory about the targeting of Asian-migrant sex workers, increased raids committed by Australian Border Force through Operation Inglenook, and the ongoing violence and surveillance of street-based sex workers. First, we'll hear a conversation with Bee on 3CR's Tuesday Breakfast. Bee is a migrant sex worker, outreach peer support worker for women of cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds for Vixen and AMSWAG (Asian Migrant Sex Worker Advisory Group) under the Scarlet Alliance. They are also a member of Justice for Our Sisters. This interview originally aired on Tuesday 15th April. We will then hear from Rory, a sex worker and peer support worker with Vixen who spoke at the action organised outside the Department of Home Affairs in Naarm on Thursday 17th April. This rally was organised by Vixen to demand an end to racist profiling of Asian-migrant sex workers at work and at the border; an end to the raids and to shut down Operation Inglenook; cops and Border Force out of sex worker spaces, and full decriminalisation for all sex workers, including street-based workers. Content warning: Listeners are advised that the following program includes descriptions of police raids and references to violence against sex workers. Michigan State, coming off a one-point loss to No. 2 Gonzaga on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln, appeared headed for another tough nonconference defeat. But the Spartans tied the game in the final seconds of regulation and overtime thanks to Hall, who finished with 20 points. The Bulldogs’ Southeastern Conference rivals Tennessee and LSU are at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively. With three of the top six teams and only three weeks left until Selection Sunday, the SEC appears in position to put two teams in the CFP for the second straight season and third time overall. USC, the Pac-12′s best and probably last hope to make the final four, is seventh. NCAAFB – Charlotte hires Michigan’s Poggi as head football coach The Charlotte 49ers have named Michigan associate head coach Francis “Biff” Poggi as their head football coach. NCAAFB – USC, UCLA may cause Big Ten schools to expand recruiting map Southern California and UCLA’s pending arrivals to the Big Ten theoretically should give the league’s existing members the opportunity to expand their recruiting maps and pursue more West Coast prospects. Twelve high school juniors or seniors from states with Pac-12 programs have verbally committed to play football at one of the Big Ten’s 14 current member schools. Only four made their decisions after the Big Ten’s June 30 announcement that USC and UCLA would join the league in 2024. NFL – National Football League – Week 10 Yesterday Washington Commanders 32, Philadelphia Eagles 21 Commanders 32, Eagles 21 – Commanders end sloppy Eagles’ perfect season 32-21 The Eagles’ bid for an undefeated season is over. The Washington Commanders turned methodical drives into scores and took advantage of turnover-prone Philadelphia to stun the Eagles 32-21 on Monday night and send them to their first loss in nine games this season. Behind Jalen Hurts, the Eagles were 8-0 for the first time in franchise history and the last team in the NFL that could make a run at Miami’s 17-0 mark in 1972 and the lone perfect season. The 2007 New England Patriots came close, going 18-0 before a Super Bowl loss. The Commanders also spoiled Pittsburgh’s 11-0 start in 2020. Hurts threw for just 174 yards. Baylor, Kansas, Duke, UCLA, Arkansas and Creighton round out the top 10. Tennessee fell 11 spots while Villanova fell out for the first time since February 2019. No. 24 Texas A&M and No. 25 Connecticut are the new additions. NCAAWBKB – Women’s College Basketball Tonight Oakland at Michigan State, 7:00 p.m. NCAAWBKB – No. 1 South Carolina, No. 2 Stanford showdown set South Carolina remains the unanimous choice at No. 1 in The Associated Press women’s basketball poll. The Gamecocks will face second-ranked Stanford on Sunday in the 63rd meeting between the top two teams in the poll. Texas, Iowa and UConn round out the first five. Ohio State moved up six spots to eighth after beating then-No. 5 Tennessee last week. The Lady Vols fell to 11th. Villanova and Utah entered the rankings at No. 24 and 25, replacing Princeton and South Dakota State. NCAAFB – Suspect caught in fatal shooting of 3 UVA FB players Authorities said a University of Virginia student and former member of the school’s football team fatally shot three current players as they returned from a field trip. The shooting set off panic and a 12-hour lockdown of the campus until the suspect was captured Monday. Students who were told to shelter in place beginning late Sunday described terrifying hours in hiding. While police searched for the gunman through the night, students sought safety in closets, dorm rooms, libraries and apartments. They listened to police scanners and tried to remember everything they were taught as children during active-shooter drills. The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. NCAAFB – Coach: Slain Virginia football players ‘were all good kids’ Three University of Virginia football players killed in an on-campus shooting are being remembered by head football coach Tony Elliott as “incredible young men with huge aspirations and extremely bright futures.” Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr., and D’Sean Perry were returning from a class trip Sunday night when authorities say they were killed by a fellow student. The young men were athletes who’d been journeying through varying periods of transition in their college football careers. One was bouncing back from a season-ending injury. Another had changed positions on the team. And yet another had recently transferred in from the University of Wisconsin. NHL – National Hockey League Last Night Carolina Hurricanes 3, Chicago Blackhawks 0 Hurricanes 3, Blackhawks 0 – Rookie Kochetkov gets 1st shutout, Canes beat Blackhawks 3-0 Rookie Pyotr Kochetkov made 27 saves for his first career shutout, and the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-0. Jordan Martinook and Jordan Staal each had a goal and an assist for Carolina. Andrei Svechnikov scored his team-leading 12th goal, and Brent Burns had two assists. Kochetkov wasn’t heavily tested, but made some timely close-in stops in his second start this season and fifth game of his career. Chicago’s Petr Mrazek blocked 29 shots as the Blackhawks were blanked for the third time this season. Tonight Detroit Red Wings at Anaheim Ducks, 10:00 p.m. NHL – Sedin twins, Luongo and Alfredsson inducted to Hall of Fame Henrik and Daniel Sedin, Canucks teammate Roberto Luongo, former Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson, Finnish women’s national team player Riikka Sallinen and Herb Carnegie were welcomed into the Hockey Hall of Fame as the class of 2022 on Monday. The Sedin twins and Luongo were elected in their first years of eligibility back in June, while Alfredsson had waited since 2017. The induction increased the number of Swedish players in the hall from four to seven. Rookie Jaden Ivey scored 21 for Detroit, which lost its fourth straight. Bojan Bogdanovic added 18 points. MLB – Seattle’s Rodríguez, Atlanta’s Harris voted top rookies Seattle’s Julio Rodríguez and Atlanta’s Michael Harris II, a pair of 21-year-old center fielders, are baseball’s Rookies of the Year. Rodriguez hit .284 with 28 homers, 75 RBIs and 25 stolen bases in helping the Mariners reach the postseason for the first time since 2001. He won the AL honor by receiving 29 of 30 first-place votes and one second for 148 points from a BBWAA panel. Harris batted .297 with 19 homers, 64 RBIs and 20 steals. He was voted the NL award, getting 22 firsts and eight seconds for 134 points from a different BBWAA panel. MLB – Cubs release 5-time Gold Glove outfielder Heyward The Chicago Cubs have released Jason Heyward, cutting ties with a five-time Gold Glove outfielder who never produced at the plate the way they hoped. The 33-year-old Heyward had one season left on the $184 million, eight-year contract he signed prior to the 2016 season. He hit .245 with 62 home runs over seven years with the Cubs. Heyward famously rallied teammates with a pep talk during a rain delay late in Game 7 of the 2016 World Series. Chicago went on to win 8-7 in 10 innings, ending a championship drought that dated to 1908. Olympics – Winter 2026 – Russian skater Valieva could miss 2026 Olympics over doping The Court of Arbitration for Sport says 16-year-old Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva faces a potential four-year doping ban which would rule her out of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo. CAS has registered an appeal from the World Anti-Doping Agency and says WADA is seeking a four-year ban to start on the date CAS makes its ruling. That would cover the next Olympics in Italy. WADA also wants Valieva to be disqualified from events including her gold-medal win in the Olympic team event in Beijing in February. Tennis – Djokovic set to be granted visa to play Australian Open Novak Djokovic is set to be granted a visa to play in next year’s Australian Open despite his high-profile deportation in January. The Australian Border Force has previously said an exclusion period could be waived under certain circumstances. Immigration Minister Andrew Giles has declined comment on privacy grounds. That means any announcement on Djokovic’s visa status for Australia would have to come from the 35-year-old Serbian tennis star. FIFA – World Cup – US Soccer uses rainbow crest in Qatar The U.S. Soccer Federation is using a rainbow version of its crest at the Americans’ World Cup training facility in Doha, Qatar. The federation normally uses a crest with blue lettering and red stripes but changed the stripes to seven different colors at the training facility, where workouts started ahead of the Americans’ World Cup opener against Wales on Nov. 21. The rainbow crest is part of the Be the Change initiative of the USSF and its players. Qatar has been criticized over attitudes towards LGBTQ fans and the treatment of migrant workers. The Australian Broadcasting Corp. says it has confirmed newspaper reports that the immigration minister has overturned Djokovic’s potential three-year exclusion period from Australia. NCAAMBKB – Men’s College Basketball Tonight Michigan State vs. (4) Kentucky, 7:00 p.m. (at Indianapolis)  Superhits 103.7 Cosy-FM 6:00 Eastern Michigan at Bradley, 8:00 p.m. NCAAMBKB – North Carolina, Gonzaga are 1-2 atop AP Top 25 poll North Carolina and Gonzaga are 1-2 in the first regular-season men’s college basketball poll from The Associated Press. Third-ranked Houston and fourth-ranked Kentucky picked up the remaining first-place votes in Top 25 with only slight changes from the preseason rankings. NBA – National Basketball Association Last Night Toronto Raptors 115, Detroit Pistons 111 Raptors 115, Pistons 111 – Blanton, Boucher lead short-handed Raptors past Pistons Dalano Banton scored 27 points and Chris Boucher added 20 as the short-handed Toronto Raptors snapped a three-game losing streak by beating the Detroit Pistons 115-111. O.G. Anunoby added 19 points and seven rebounds for Toronto, which played without Fred VanVleet (non-COVID illness), Pascal Siakam (abdominal strain) and Gary Trent (hip). The Australian Broadcasting Corp. says it has confirmed newspaper reports that the immigration minister has overturned Djokovic’s potential three-year exclusion period from Australia. Linus talks about his 11 day offshore passage from Noumea, New Caledonia to Cairns, Australia. The Australian Border Force engages in abusive tactics to harass cruising sailboat owners. If you are on a cruise ship or a plane you are treated like a tourist. If you are on a sailboat you will be targeted as a criminal by ABF which use a dozen officers to check in a boat with two people. They made my Australian crew member a prisoner on the boat and miss his hotel and plane flight for a day for no reason. Australia emulates the totalitarian policies of China, not the democratic governance of the United Kingdom. The ABF is a jobs program that wastes Australians' tax dollars and is destroying Australia's international tourism industry.   I recommend steering clear of New Caledonia which is also hostile to international sailboat cruisers.    Captain Linus Wilson is the author of the travel narratives SLOW BOAT TO THE BAHAMAS, HOW TO SAIL AROUND THE WORLD PART-TIME, and SLOW BOAT TO CUBA. Novak Djokovic, the world's top-ranked men's tennis player -- and vocal anti-vaxxer -- thought he was all clear to play in the Australian open as he entered the country on Wednesday. Tournament and state officials announced Tuesday that Djokovic had been granted a medical exemption from getting vaccinated against the coronavirus so that he could compete in the Grand Slam event. That didn't sit well with the federal government, however. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison had said Wednesday that Djokovic would have to prove upon arrival why he deserved the exemption or he would be “on the next plane home.” And early this morning, it was announced that Djokovic's visa had been canceled, per the Australian Border Force. In announcing the cancellation, Morrison tweeted "Rules are rules, especially when it comes to our borders. No one is above these rules."

The Australian federal government has "paused" its plan to ease border restrictions from Wednesday, December 1, delaying the move by a fortnight as the world grapples with the new Omicron Covid variant. This means fully vaccinated visa holders will not be able to fly into Australia without an exemption.Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison made the announcement on Monday night after a meeting of the Cabinet's national security committee was briefed on the latest information about Omicron. At this stage, the easing of border restrictions will be delayed until December 15."On the basis of medical advice provided by the Chief Medical Officer of Australia, Professor Paul Kelly, the National Security Committee has taken the necessary and temporary decision to pause the next step to safely reopen Australia to international skilled and student cohorts, as well as humanitarian, working holiday maker and provisional family visa holders from 1 December until 15 December,'' a spokesman said."The reopening to travellers from Japan and the Republic of Korea will also be paused until 15 December."The temporary pause will ensure Australia can gather the information we need to better understand the Omicron variant, including the efficacy of the vaccine, the range of illness, including if it may generate more mild symptoms, and the level of transmission."The standard rules, including that all arrivals to Australia require a negative PCR test and must complete traveller declaration forms detailing their vaccination status, will continue to apply.Previous changes announced over the weekend include the reinstatement of home quarantine in some states that had dumped the requirement for international travellers.Over the weekend Australia introduced temporary bans on travel to Australia from several African countries.Anyone who is not a citizen or permanent resident of Australia, or their immediate family including parents of citizens, and who have been in African countries where the Omicron variant has been detected and spread within the past 14 days, will not be able to enter Australia. The countries are: South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Malawi and Mozambique.Australian citizens and permanent residents arriving from these countries will need to go into immediate supervised quarantine for 14 days subject to jurisdictional arrangements. In a statement, the Morrison government noted that the Australian Border Force retains discretion to allow people who are already in transit to enter, but these people will be subject to state based isolation requirements.Under state public health orders, New South Wales and Victoria have already initiated testing and 72-hour isolation requirements for Australian citizens, permanent residents and immediate family members entering the country. In other states, 14 days of managed quarantine are required, and traveller cap arrangements are in place."Australia has a proven record of dealing with Covid, we have one of the lowest fatality rates, highest vaccination rates and strongest economies in the world," Morrison said."We will continue to take sensible and responsive evidence-based action, led by medical experts. This will ensure we can open safely, and stay safely open as we learn to live with the virus." Prime Minister @ScottMorrisonMP says the federal government is "calmly and carefully' responding to the latest information about the new Omicron COVID-19 variant. pic.twitter.com/aXoYs9zVRn— Sunrise (@sunriseon7) November 28, 2021 "Of course [Omicron] is concerning and that's why we're getting all the information we possibly can," Morrison told Sunrise on Monday morning."We moved very quickly on Saturday, this moved from a variance under investigation to a variant of concern within a very short period of time and we immediately put those extra controls in place on Saturday."The national security committee will be meeting this afternoon to...

The Australian online political partisans took a break from getting mad at each other become hopping mad that British freedom advocate Katie Hopkins confirmed she had landed in Australia. The raging about that plus the latest from Cuba and South Africa on this week's Tim's News Explosion. As part of their upcoming Big Brother VIP series, Channel 7 had flown international media personalities, Caitlyn Jenner and Katie Hopkins. With international travel caps to Australia being slashed due to the Delta variant, Hopkins's passage into Australia saw politicians and media commentators left and right call for her to be deported immediately due to her so-called 'racism' and her joke in her Katie's arms livestream from hotel quarantine where she joked about opening the door naked in front of Australian Border Force staff. Channel 7 terminated her contract, NSW Police fined her $1000 and she was deported today after her visa was canceled. Andrew Bolt wrote a column in the News Corp papers condemning Katie Hopkins in the same manner that he condemned Blair Cottrell in 2018 after he appeared on Sky News. Hopkins appeared on Sky News Outsiders in 2020 but after condemnation from Bolt and fellow Sky host Sharri Markson it is doubtful she will reappear, just as Lauren Southern hasn't appeared on Sky in 2021. Both Katie and Lauren have covered the white genocide in South Africa where the nation is still on fire due to riots. In better news the protests in Cuba against the communist regime continue, Joe Biden said the rallies show why socialism doesn't work, Democratic Socialist AOC said the protests are due to US sanctions. A Nine News TV segment has caused uproar in New Zealand, where locals have slammed it as “extraordinarily grotesque”, “incendiary” and “upsetting”.On Monday, the network aired an exclusive report by Nine News Queensland reporter Jordan Fabris, who was given special access by the Australian Border Force to go on board the “secret prisoner plane” being used to deport Kiwis convicted of crimes.“Taking out the trash,” the host said as she introduced the segment.“Tonight, we're revealing the secret prisoner plane booting foreign criminals out of Australia. From murderers to child abusers, these people have no place in our country.”The report also featured Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton describing the flights as “taking the trash out”.“We're talking about the most serious offenders here, and our country is safer for having deported them,” Mr Dutton told the program.“Over the course of the last 12 months or so Border Force has been able to deport over 700 people. It's taking the trash out, then we can make Australia a safer place.”The program showed a number of notorious criminals being loaded onto the unmarked Airbus jet, including Grant David Mitchell, who choked his girlfriend Nella Poli to death in the 1980s and remained a fugitive for nearly 24 years. Also featured were killer conman Edwin Lewis, crazed Geelong car chase gunman Bruce Savage, bikie drug runner Gavin Lou Boynton-Taiawa, sex offender Jamie Roy McKeay, and in Perth, “two criminals whose identities are classified”.At one point in the segment, Fabris thrusts a microphone at a handcuffed woman as she's led across the tarmac. “How does it feel to be kicked out of Australia?” he asks. After the woman tells him to “f**k off”, Fabris says, “Our country doesn't want you, are you excited to go home?”The issue of criminal deportations, which were briefly suspended last year during the COVID-19 pandemic, has festered as one of the most contentious diplomatic issues between the two countries.A surge in gang crime following the return of hundreds of former prisoners has made headlines in New Zealand, where Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has slammed the policy as having a “corrosive” effect on trans-Tasman relations. In an article about the Nine News report, the NZ Herald's headline quoted one reaction describing it as “upsetting”, and the article itself labelled Mr Dutton's “trash” comment as “incendiary”.The newspaper noted criticism of the deportation policy, which has seen New Zealanders who had spent their life in Australia deported after committing minor offences.Four people have died in connection with the policy, including a man who committed suicide 18 months after being deported, according to a “Border Deaths Database” maintained by Monash University. The NZ Herald quoted a woman who works with deportees in New Zealand, who said the report did not accurately reflect the reality of the policy or the ratio of Kiwis being deported for relatively minor charges.Aimee Reardon from Prisoners' Aid and Rehabilitation Society said Mr Dutton's comments were “ignorant” and that he was “ill-informed”.She also said racism played a part in how the policy was enforced and that there were “ulterior motives” involved.“She said his comments would hit hard for returnees, many of whom already needed counselling to ‘see themselves as people' again,” the NZ Herald wrote.“She said she has spoken to one returnee was ‘really upset' after seeing the report and concerned that his family in Australia might see it and it might affect the perceptions of people in his new community.”In an opinion piece for the Stuff.co.nz website, journalist Andrea Vance suggested Prime Minister Scott Morrison was engaging in “a touch of Kiwi bashing” to distract from his government's scandals.“It's easy to tell when Scott Morrison is feeling under pressure – he picks a fight with New Zealand,” Vance wrote.“The Australian Prime Minister's Liberal party is marred by a succession of explos...

While our medical experts have been looking to subdue the virus, our crime fighting experts have been working hard to minimize the impact of criminals in Australia and from overseas. And just as the performance of team Australia’s health experts has been recognised for its effectiveness, so too the efforts to keep our police officers safe and well. In fact, no less than the New York Police Department have been on the phone to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) asking how it was done. In this week’s episode of Work with Purpose, contentgroup Founder and CEO, David Pembroke, sits down with Commissioner of the AFP, Reece Kershaw, and Commissioner of the Australian Border Force, Michael Outram (ABF). He served 20 years in the Metropolitan policing service rising to the rank of Detective Chief Inspector working in Anti-Corruption, Anti-Terrorism, and major investigations teams. He came to Australia on secondment to the New South Wales police force. He liked the weather and stayed. Since then he has worked in numerous high-profile crime fighting roles with both the Australian Crime Commission and the AFP before joining the ABF in 2015. He was sworn in as commissioner in 2018. And just like Reece Kershaw, Michael Outram is known for his integrity.
