Send us a textEvery region has its stories, but few places weave storytelling into their cultural fabric quite like Appalachia. Bob Peck, the visionary behind Mountainwater Films, has dedicated himself to capturing these narratives through a lens that prioritizes authenticity above all else. When Hurricane Helene devastated much of Western North Carolina, Bob's storytelling took on new urgency. Through his documentary approach, he helped businesses like Asheville Tea Company—whose entire operation was washed downstream—process their experiences while inviting customers back through powerful visual storytelling. His work in communities from Old Fort to Lake Lure demonstrates how film can simultaneously educate, inspire, and market in ways that honor the recovery process. What emerges most clearly is Bob's commitment to sustainable storytelling that connects "nuanced visitors" with authentic experiences while benefiting local communities. In a time when many places struggle with overtourism, his work aims to attract people who will appreciate and respect the true character of Appalachia, ensuring these communities and their stories continue to thrive for generations to come.Want to explore more of Appalachia's authentic stories? In this episode, you'll learn: ·      How institutional religions often distort spiritual truths, and how to rediscover their original meaning ·      The surprising parallels between mystical teachings across different traditions ·      How to move beyond surface-level interpretations to access deeper spiritual wisdom that can transform your life   Have you ever felt like you were getting the dumbed-down version of something profound? Like someone was giving you the children's picture book edition of life's deepest mysteries? My brain has always worked in a specific way. I spot inconsistencies immediately. When I was a kid, I used to write to publishing companies showing them typos in their books. I'm not kidding - I probably wrote to them about 50% of the books I read. I couldn't believe how many errors made it to print. When something's off, I feel it in my bones. This feeling followed me well into adulthood. I'd read spiritual texts and feel electricity running through certain passages, sensing deeper meaning just beyond my grasp. But whenever I'd ask questions trying to dig deeper, I'd get shut down with "that's just how it is" or "you just need to have faith." The real question is - what happens when we start taking these deeper teachings seriously? What becomes possible when we move beyond surface-level spirituality and really engage with these profound truths about the nature of consciousness, reality, and our own divine nature? Today our guest is Bob Peck. He's the author of "Original Sin is a Lie" and a profound scholar of mystical traditions across religions. After growing up with a spiritually seeking father and experiencing his own journey through various traditions, Bob has dedicated himself to uncovering and sharing the deeper layers of spiritual truth that unite rather than divide us. In a twist, Nintendo dropped a double-direct earlier this week. Combining a Partner Direct with an always fun Indie Direct for a show that had some stunners in it. A few people seem to have run away with it, though. Imagining that this direct double feature portends a Switch 2 announcement soon. We don't think that's happening. At least not in the remainder of this year. In this episode we talk about the direct, what we think Nintendo plans for the next six months, and how they continue to win when it comes to game presentations in general. Oh we also talk about the great Robert Muldoon. And we rank Indiana Jones movies on a tangent. Man, it's too bad Bob Peck died so tragically soon after Muldoon was born because I would have loved a Muldoon game warden movie in Kenya. Anyway...

How did the concept of ‘original sin' get into the bible if Jesus never taught it? Where else did the Bible get it right, and where has it been misinterpreted or manipulated? In this podcast, I'm joined by Bob Peck who is an author and scholar of not only Christianity, but many spiritual traditions. In this episode, we dive into the manipulative concept of ‘original sin', the beautiful and true teachings of Yeshua, and how to integrate the wisdom of Jesus for an updated model of spirituality free of the conditioning of ‘Empire'. In Bob's book “Original Sin Is A Lie” he tells the story of Jesus as a deeply profound teacher of Love and Unity. According to this doctrine, human beings inherit a sinful nature from Adam and Eve's disobedience in the Garden of Eden, resulting in a state of separation from God. While this belief is central to certain Christian denominations, it is not universally accepted and does not necessarily align with other mythologies or religious traditions. ️ Faith ️ Spirituality ️ Paranormal ‍ Supernatural Guide ️ Join My Patron Tribe https://www.CubKuker.com ️ Hi friends your support is vital! This episode exists because last December, my best friend Dakota messaged me a picture of a platinum blond, bearded, trench-coat donning BADASS Mark Hamill. He followed the pic with "do this review!" Challenge accepted. So here, we have SLIPSTREAM, a 1989 venture from Steven Lisberger (best known for directing 1982's TRON), about a post-apocalyptic future where nature's revenge on humanity's pollution has led to earthquakes, floods and an uncontrollable river of wind called the Slipstream. In this world, a man accused of murder (Bob Peck) is chased by two bounty hunters (Mark Hamill & Kitty Aldridge). When a ne'erdowell scrapper (Bill Paxton) hijacks the bounty from the couple, he finds himself bonding with the accused, learning secrets and embarking on a grand adventure through the wastelands, skysurfing the Slipstream. Did I mention we also get Ben Kingsley, F. Murray Abraham & Robbie Coltrane (motherfucking HAGRID) in this?! This reads a lot cooler than the movie, which feels like a DUNE-sized saga crammed into 90 minutes. I should have David Rosen (of the awesome Piecing It Together podcast) dissect every influence imaginable in this thing: STAR WARS, BLADE RUNNER...hell, I know WATERWORLD came out in '95, but this feels like a cousin. The world never feels fully realized; The piece about explaining humanity through its most basic essence comes almost as an afterthought to the chase; The characters are paper-thin, while spouting dialogue that should be left in Chapter 3, not damn near the end of the movie. It exemplifies the kind of film that seems to throw its budget to the wind and hopes it'll all find its way. Maybe in that sense, it's like David Cronenberg's SCANNERS to me. Great ideas, average to bizarre execution. But that Elmer Bernstein (Airplane!, An American Werewolf in London, Ghostbusters) score is FIRE. And also, Mark Hamill really does rock that platinum blond. He should do that again. --------------------------- Closing Song: "I Could Give You All That You Don't Want" - The Twilight Sad --------------------------- Review THE MOVIES on Apple Podcasts & I'll read it on the next episode! --------------------------- Follow Daniel on: Twitter - @TheMovies_Pod Instagram - @themoviespod Letterboxd - https://letterboxd.com/Daniel_Berrios/ --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/themoviespodcast/message

It should be a point of pride for any filmmaker who can be credited for “saving” a cinematic franchise. However, Martin Campbell sits in the singular position of having achieved this twice: when the James Bond franchise awoke from a six-year hiatus where there was no longer a Cold War to fight, and the interest in the character was uncertain, Campbell introduced the world to Pierce Brosnan in 1995's “GoldenEye,” which went on to be a smash hit at the box office, and remains frequently cited as a fan favorite Bond film. The exact same can be said of 2006's “Casino Royale,” which rebooted the series, solidified that a Bond film can be many different things, made Daniel Craig a cinematic icon, and was as much of a hit at the box office and among fans as any of the best Bond films. Campbell, a New Zealand native, came up in London as a television director in the ‘70s, including credits on five episodes of the crime-action drama “The Professionals.” His best-known work, however, came in 1985 with the massively acclaimed miniseries “Edge of Darkness,” starring Bob Peck and Joanne Whalley. Still to this day regarded as one of the greatest pieces of British television ever aired, “Edge of Darkness” earned Campbell the BAFTA TV Award for Best Director. Campbell also helmed one of the great episodes of American television with the first season “Homicide: Life on the Street” episode “Three Men and Adena.” Since “GoldenEye,” Campbell has maintained a steady resume of work in film, from “The Mask of Zorro,” to “Vertical Limit,” to a 2010 American adaptation of “Edge of Darkness.” Campbell's latest film, “The Protégé,” stars Maggie Q as Anna, an assassin raised by another killer, Moody (Samuel L. Jackson). After her mentor and surrogate father is killed, Anna tracks down Rembrandt (Michael Keaton) to avenge his death, in the process confronting her own history as a killer. Campbell discussed his latest action thriller, which is in cinemas now, as well as what keeps the director going after more than 40 years directing action sequences that always feel like they're something new. Given that he is also the de facto master of introducing a new Bond to audiences, and with Daniel Craig's swan song, “No Time to Die,” on the horizon, we had to get Campbell's thoughts on what the next Bond could look like, and what type of scenarios he might be placed in today. During our interview with Martin Campbell, we dive deep into the propulsive fight sequences that “The Protégé” revels in, how the director utilized Bulgaria as a facsimile for the streets of Vietnam, and more! “The Protégé” is in theaters now. "Jurassic Park" is a film adaptation of the 1990 novel of the same name, written by Michael Crichton - whose premise centres around the creation of a wildlife park of dinosaurs that have been brought to life by genetic scientists, with the investment of wealthy businessman and industrialist John Hammond played by Richard Attenborough. Set upon the fictional island of Isla Nublar, a small group of visitors - including Hammond's own grandchildren - struggle to survive and escape the island when a catastrophic shutdown of Jurassic Park's power and security precautions leads to the escape of some dangerous dinosaurs that see the visitors to the island as prey. The film has a star-studded cast, including: Sam Neil, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Bob Peck, BD Wong, Samuel L. Jackson, Wayne Knight - and in 2018 it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" and it continues to be highly regarded by critics and audiences alike, as has the sequel films of the "Jurassic Park" franchise that it has spawned. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/markthepoet/message

Tom Davis on politics today in Northern Virginia~ They've done it to themselves because they've emphasized these social issues, in an area that's becoming much more widely diverse, instead of focusing on the bread and butter and the economic issues that basically decide the success or not of every jurisdiction. They just priced themselves out of the market. So even where they were right on a number of issues, you had young people, people of color, just pushing the mute button when you had the Republican label. Tom Davis - Retired Congressman and Rector, George Mason University and host Andy Ockershausen in-studio interview Andy Ockershausen: This is Our Town and this is Andy Ockershausen and we're so fortunate to have a friend for many, many years who sort of disappeared part of our life, but thank God, not totally. Congressman Tom Davis, welcome to Our Town. Tom Davis: Andy, it's great to retire from my life of quiet anonymity to come on to your show. Andy Ockershausen: Tom, I can't tell you Tom, how much I miss you and seeing your career and being a part of your life, whether you like it or not, WMAL was because- Tom Davis: Absolutely. Andy Ockershausen: And I was involved with the Alexandria Group there and the good old days when we elected people, but you can't get a Republican elected in Alexandria now with a search warrant. But Tom, you've done so well. 14 years in Congress? Tom Davis - 29 Years of Public Service | Former United States Congressman and Fairfax County Board Member Tom Davis: Right, and I was 15 years on the County Board in Fairfax before that. Andy Ockershausen: You were? That's 29. That's half your life. Tom Davis: 29. Yeah, I know. Well it was more than half- Andy Ockershausen: The Arlington County board? Tom Davis: I mean, less than half my life now. Andy Ockershausen: That was the ABC guy? Tom Davis: No, this was the Fairfax County. Andy Ockershausen: Oh, Fairfax County? Tom Davis: Yeah, yeah. Andy Ockershausen: I remember my friend Bob Peck was on the Arlington Board for a while. Reminiscing - Local Political Races Tom Davis: Oh my goodness. I remember all those races, because I grew up on those races in Arlington. Andy Ockershausen: You're an Arlington guy, right? Tom Davis: In Arlington, yeah. I remember Hal Casto. Do you remember Hal Casto? He was on the Board. Andy Ockershausen: Very well. I remember the name. Tom Davis: Ned Thomas, they owned the cemetery. He was on the County Board. Andy Ockershausen: The cemetery? He lived on the cemetery? Tom Davis: He did. He did. Andy Ockershausen: He and his wife lived on a cemetery? The Cemetery Story Tom Davis: In fact, we ran a registration drive there one year on the cemetery, and we get to this really old tombstone to get it appropriately registered and we couldn't read the name. We're putting the flashlight on. We're trying to put a paper over it and engrave it, and figure out what's the name. Somebody comes and says, "Davis, we gotta get outta here. The cops are going to be here in a few minutes." I said, "Wait a minute. This man has just as much right to vote as everybody else in here." Andy Ockershausen: He's one of us, the good Republican. You couldn't find one now with a search warrant, I'll guarantee you. Tom, but you're a local guy. You grew up in Arlington. Tom Davis: Right. Andy Ockershausen: And that's a big part of your life is Northern Virginia. It's been there your whole life, your whole college career was in Northern Virginia. On Growing Up | Family and Education | Full Scholarship to Amerherst Tom Davis: Except for army, college, and basically law school. Yeah, that's it. Andy Ockershausen: Where was college? Tom Davis: Amherst, in Massachusetts. Andy Ockershausen: Amherst, a good school. Wow! Tom Davis: They gave me a full scholarship. It was not a hard choice. Andy Ockershausen: Amherst is one of the schools for the, you know, the silver spoon. Tom Davis: I was lucky.

The Force Fed Sci-Fi Movie Podcast

Welcome, to Jurassic Park on Force Fed Sci-Fi as this week we cover the the film Jurassic Park, the Jurassic Park original cast, clarifying Jurassic Park's chaos theory explanation, pining over the Jurassic Park music and score, and finally, covering our Jurassic Park rating and review! Make sure to listen to the full podcast episode and if you haven't subscribed to the podcast, you are missing out! Life finds a way, on Force Fed Sci-Fi! Jurassic Park Original Cast (Jurassic Park Movie Cast) Sam Neill as Doctor Alan Grant Interestingly, this role was offered to Harrison Ford initially, but he turned down the part. Then it went to Sam Neill. Harrison Ford in the main role would have been an intriguing watch that's for sure, but Sam Neill did a fine job. Jeff Goldblum as Doctor Ian Malcolm This role was also one that could have gone to a different actor, Jim Carrey. Our opinion is that this role was almost meant for Jeff Goldblum though, and wouldn't be well suited for Jim Carrey. Goldblum does a great job acting grandiose and confident with his character which adds a bit of humor in the film. Bob Peck as Robert Muldoon This is one of Chris' favorite characters in the film, even though he does not make it in the end. There's an appreciation for a character who is cautious of opening a place like Jurassic Park up. He understands the dinosaurs almost on a different level than the other characters. Samuel L. Jackson as Ray Arnold Sean found out that Sam Jackson's character's death wasn't being filmed because of the beginnings of his rise to stardom. Laura Dern as Doctor Ellie Satler   Richard Attenborough as John Hammond   Clarifying Jurassic Park's Chaos Theory To start off, the chaos theory comes from the mathematical world, but the general idea can be applied in other aspects. Essentially, the chaos theory shows that introducing a new factor into a situation changes the flow of things. The most simple example to think of is if you were to time travel back in time, the flow of time would be altered and further down the road, it could have huge implications. In Jurassic Park, the chaos theory is mentioned by Goldblum's character. He, as well as the other scientists that have been invited to the island, caution against producing these dinosaurs and introducing them into a time where humans dominate the planet. Who knows what consequences genetic engineering and these animals can bring if created? (being eaten by the way is an acceptable answer, lol). Basically, we come to a conclusion that introducing something new, like dinosaurs and genetic engineering, can potentially have a ton of adverse effects on the human race and Earth itself. Jurassic Park Music and Score The Jurassic Park music and score by John Williams was impeccable to say the least. The main theme is definitely one that almost everyone has hummed at least once at some point in their lifetime. One of our favorite scenes is when the main cast is arriving at the island. Mixing the scenery of the helicopter flying through the mountains and the main theme of the film by John Williams gives us goosebumps. A few other fun facts about the Jurassic Park music and score is that it peaked at number 28 on the Billboard charts. This doesn't happen very often for a film's score. This is just an attestation to how riveting the soundtrack and score was. In addition, this film was the 12th time John Williams worked on a Steven Spielberg movie. The 13th was Schindler's List which was released the same year and Williams one Best Original Score for at the 66th Academy Awards. We personally think Jurassic Park was a better score. Force Fed Sci-Fi's Jurassic Park Rating and Review Force Fed Sci-Fi's Jurassic Park rating lands on "would host viewing party" on our scale. Jurassic Park tells such a great story, is written so well, and also, something we mention in our podcast episode, the effects and computer graphics were phenomenal being one of the earli...

It's the beginning of a new month of recaps as we're here to talk about the Jurassic Park franchise. As our favourite movie we've ever covered on The Oz Network, why is Ben ready to quit the podcast now that Jurassic Park has been done? How frustrated was Colin in the summer of 1993 when his siblings made him watch Coneheads instead of Jurassic Park? How much credit does Michael Crichton deserve for teaching Ben to read? Which scene in this movie will Colin forever picture a McDonalds commercial during? How does Jamie manage to almost ruin our childhood without even being on this episode? How much do we all love Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, Richard Attenborough, Joseph Mazzello, Ariana Richards, Samuel L Jackson, Wayne Knight, Martin Ferrero, and Bob Peck? And why did we not mention Gerald R. Molen as Dr. Harding, the worst scientist in franchise history? It's time to boot up your UNIX systems, load your interactive CD Roms, and  hold onto your butts as we begin the greatest month in Oz Network history.★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

Bob Peck goes for a ride in a plane with Bill Paxton and along the way the pair go on a personal journey and discover who they really are. Oh and Mark Hamill chases them in his airplane as well. Its one hell of a hot mess, with confusing plot lines, unstated character roles, and mentions to major plot hubs that never get flushed out. But its still a pretty fun ride. Somewhere in Slipstream is a good movie. There some really cool science fiction ideas, gorgeous aerial footage, questions raised about what life truly is and solid concepts about life in a post-apocalyptic world. This really could have been a movie that people respected and possibly not cost Gary Kurtz his movie career. We don't think that it ever would have been a really successful film but a good ol' muligan may have turned this into a pretty popular film. Boy, Paul and AJ sure are branching out, aren’t they? If interviews and 30-second specials weren’t enough for you, get ready to be thrilled and amazed by the boys’ first-ever commentary track! Born out of a whim to take up even more of your time, the guys decided to hunker down with a copy of Steven Spielberg’s mega-hit Jurassic Park and proffer their thoughts, musings, and ridiculous opinions on the film. Things they learned in the making of said commentary: you probably don’t want to live-feed dinosaurs; Jeff Goldblum’s exposed chest hairs get a lot of screen time; those short shorts look swell on Laura Dern, but not so much Bob Peck; and goddamn, what a great logo. I mean, there are other things, too, but it’s mostly about Jeff Goldblum’s pecs.
