The weather continues to be nice today with a high near mid-40! I'm planning on shutting my heat off this afternoon and opening some windows! On the show today…no winner for the Powerball jackpot last night means it's gonna be almost $1.5 BILLION for Saturday's drawing, a delay for the destruction of the Lansing Bridge, the latest on Morgan Geyser, and a recall on some salad dressing! In sports, Week 16 in the NFL kicks off tonight, Bucks take on the Raptors tonight, Badger Women's volleyball squares up against Kentucky in the Final Four later this evening, the Badger men's basketball team is off until tomorrow, and a look at the upcoming Bowl schedule. We talked to Office Cora this morning to see what she's up to in the 715 this weekend, and we let you know what's on TV today/tonight. Plus, Survivor is celebrating it's 50th season by hiding immunity idols in every state as part of a contest Lots of Christmas/Holiday stuff this morning including a ranking of the most iconic Christmas movie characters, which Christmas song "sings to the spirit" of your Zodiac sign, the ways that caroling is good for you, and a bottle-fed reindeer that's now a house pet! It's also "Hypothetical Thursday" and Jean's question for Brian was: "Which Christmas movie character would you be?", while Brian's question for Jean was: "Would you rather have to sing a solo while caroling with friends or be able to stay in the back of the group...but in your bra & underwear?" Also had a heart-warming story about a dog that recently had a litter of eleven puppies who still had room for one more, and a fantastic story about some retired teachers in Minnesota who are writing uplifting letters to kid who are battling cancer. Elsewhere in sports, the Bears may be moving to Indiana, the Dolphins have benched Tua, the head coach of Ohio is essentially fired, and Doug Gottlieb is leaving his radio program to focus on his coaching duties in Green Bay. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about some free weed outside a high school in California, a guy who followed his GPS down a boat ramp and into a lake, a woman who was arrested for putting razor blades in loaves of bread at Walmart, a camel that was part of a church's nativity scene who kicked a woman, a fake robbery, and getting your ChatGPT "high".See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Show notes provided by Joe PelusoAmong the many joys of the Christmas season is the "gift" of giving. Huge amounts of money and time are expended to find just the right gift to bestow upon a treasured loved one. From Macy's Basement to Amazon's Home Page, the search for the perfect gift is launched. It can be a magical experience. But what if we were to extend that enchanting sojourn to include hunting down that prized bequest to a member of the pop culture universe? Well, this season four of Santa's helpers--James, Chris, Jack, and Joe--take up the honored challenge ofhunting down that special gift for some of their favorite pop culture icons. But instead of getting Wolverine a set of stainless steel carving knives, or Bruce Wayne a bottle of Laurent-Perrier: La Cuvee Champagne? Why not instead a book? And no, not a book on expensive cutlery or rare wines, but a volume that entertains, enlightens, and amuses.   We think the boys will surprise you with their literary picks--and to whom they would bestow them upon.So from Lex Luthor, to Jack Hughes, and from Nightwing to Miles O'Brien, sit back with you favorite holiday hot toddy, stoke the fireplace, and trim the tree, for it is once again the peaceful season of giving. Let the soft falling snow and the dulcet sounds of caroling on your front porch open your hearts to the season that heralds PEACE.   To all our loyal and faithful fans, let the promise of this specialseason fill your hearts and homes with joy and happiness.   FELIX NATALIS CHRISTI!

7 Ways you can make this the “The most wonderful time of the year” It's the week before the Christmas Holidays and I have several questions for you: Is it really the most wonderful time of the year?  Does it really only come around once a year?  Is Santa really on his way to spread cheer throughout the farmland? If you are older than 12, then the answer to all three questions is “No”. Let's just summarize this entire situation as a stressful tradition.  We are glad to have but happy when it's over and we can get back to “normal”. Holiday stress is where the salesperson and sales manager can make a huge difference in the lives of their fellow employees as well as their customers.  A little effort by the sales team goes a long way.  Why? Because making any effort to reduce this stress when you don't have to will show up all year long.  Listen in as we discuss the 7 Ways you can make the holidays, “The most wonderful time of the year”

Kerre Woodham: Productivity and the great Christmas shutdown

Kerre McIvor Mornings Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 4, 2025 6:23 Transcription Available

This morning, I'm going to pretty much let Toss Grumley do the opener for me. Who's Toss Grumley? Well, Toss is a New Zealand business advisor and investor. The Post has run an editorial he wrote, bemoaning the Christmas shutdown. In it he said New Zealand's Christmas break has started to become way too extreme, and it's impacting our productivity on an individual business level and at the level of the economy. The summer break, he says, seems to be extending, leaving less room for leave later in the year. But the most concerning part is the circle back mid-February mentality, which means that while many are at work, they aren't doing much productive work. And the mentality of circle back Feb seems to start late November or early December. He says having 10 weeks of no productive conversation simply isn't good for business. He points out our productivity has grown at around 1.2% per year since 1996, while Australia's has grown at around 1.8%, and we're getting left behind. We need to work longer as we're producing less. We are 30 to 40% below top performers like the US, Norway, and Ireland. He also points out that March and April are the peak months for business arrears. This, he says, is not by chance, it's driven by business habits over December and January. Additionally, our GDP quarterly volatility is in the top third of the OECD. Again, he says, this is the Christmas season. For retail, we have a huge October to December quarter, then everyone stops spending all of January, creating cash flow problems for our businesses. He says while we all need to recuperate at times, in a country where our recovery is so fragile, we need to work hard up to the break, take some well-deserved time off, then get back into it and get our lives and businesses moving again swiftly. Thank you very much Toss and The Post for doing the heavy lifting on the editorial for me this morning. He does have a point though, doesn't he? Because we have our very own Mike Hosking who's, even as I speak, roaring down the motorway in his fine European vehicle, heading off on his hols before December's been here for a week. The Chrissy decks have barely been put up around the office, and he's gone. And it's unsettling for people when the routine is disrupted. I myself will be heading off – I don't go until the 19th, but I won't be back for a while. Most of January I'll be gone. It's a long time. They're the sort of holidays I could only dream of when I was a junior woodchuck reporter. Penny and Robert, our favourite coffee shop downstairs, they're paying rent on their space. They don't stop paying rent over Christmas and New Year, so they'll be back. Heaven knows who'll be around to buy the coffees and the excellent muffins that Helen barely ever touches because our people are clearing off apart from a skeleton staff. The council offices over the road will be deserted too, I imagine, apart from the skeleton staff. I'd be really interested to hear from you as to what you want. If you are one of the many, many small business owners, small to medium business owners, do you work like a navy right up until Christmas Eve, and then think, thank heavens, put the closed sign up on the shop and head off for three weeks, four weeks, and think, no, I'm not doing anything over January. I'm done. Do you wish that you could take two weeks off, recover, and then come back and everybody else came back too and business as usual, like Toss is saying. He got a fair bit of flak for this when he posted this initially on LinkedIn. People were really grumpy, saying he begrudged people holidays. And he doesn't. He says he just wishes they were spaced out throughout the year, rather than having the great Christmas shutdown. Do people order their bathroom or kitchen renos in December and January, or do you wait until February? Is it a case of, oh well, might as well take the time off because my supplier's taken the time off and customers aren't responding to calls, and then it becomes a domino effect. One topples and the next thing, you know, we all fall over and lie in the sand with a cool drink by our side, thinking, well, circle back February. How many weeks for you is optimum for a holiday? How many would you like other people to take? When it comes to the schools and the teachers, when it comes to radio stations and the hosts, when it comes to businesses, when it comes to suppliers. Is it six weeks, four weeks, three weeks? What to you would be the optimum? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We're spending all this time invisibly planning. I desire for it to be more visible. For home, I have always planned in these trimesters, 120 day chunks. You can hear all about it in ep. 132. I call these chunks summer, fall, and winter. When the PhD is finished (hopefully in Dec.) I will have planned 9 chunks. Each chunk of time starts with this natural break in the hustle of life and gives us these organic bursts of energy to declutter, organize, and reset. It became very clear to me the energy of each season during this PhD journey. What did I plan? How did it go? And how am I leaving this PhD phase of life?  Summer (May-August) Sing it with me “Schoooooool's out for summer”...these are the more relaxed months of the year. The invisible work you would have done for this chunk was planning how to keep the kids busy, summer vacations, and this is usually a personal development time for me. The PhD is all personal development. Summer of ‘23 was “Busy” because I'd applied and been accepted into the PhD and lil Grayson turned two so he was into everything! I had each minute planned with the goal of getting my PhD that I basically missed summer! This summer was the hardest. I took less time to plan because Greg and I went to England. And I don't regret it! Grayson was 3 and he was on to me. He KNEW when I was home and he wanted to play. But I'd made the choice to pursue this PhD and I had to choose it over Grayson for this season. So I moved almost everything to the office. Another lost summer. Fall (September-December) Fall seems to be an easy chunk of time for me. This season you have planned for back to school and the holidays. Things seem to go easier and thank God for football. Because Greg loves football and that means I don't have guilt getting in a few more hours of studying or completing more assignments. I'd only taken 2 classes which lightened the PhD demand on me. In fall of 2024, I had to ask myself “How do I not do again, what I just did in summer?” I took a trip with Greg, I only took 2 classes and focused on the holidays.  Winter (January-April/Mayish) Winter starts with all of us coming back from Christmas/Holiday breaks. In 2023, I planned to change all my habits and routines to be a PhD student, you can hear all about that in ep. 519 and/or the Monday PhD episodes I did around that same time. I knew it was going to take me 25 hours so I blocked that time off my calendar. It's no good to set a goal but not set aside time to achieve it.  For my 2024 winter chunk, I'm calling it “treading water”. This was a really hard chunk of time because Greg had rotator cuff surgery, we'd remodeled Joey's condo, and we were planning to remodel Abby's space downstairs next.   How I'm Ending My PhD Phase I'm calling this last chunk of time “the grind”. I have finished the classes portion of completing the PhD.  As I see the finish line in sight for the PhD, I am walking away so happy and proud! I'm proud of myself for the mental capacity I've grown. I am so proud that I put earning a PhD as one of my priorities. I would cheer anyone on in my family to do the same for themselves. It forced me to set better boundaries with my family. I encourage you all to do Planning Day and I do it for myself too to make sure I am pouring into my marriage and family, that I am prioritizing self care, to travel, and breakdown a big project I want to accomplish. Sometimes you get that project done in one 120 chunk and sometimes it's multiple chunks over the course of 3 years. Just make sure you prioritize your family and have good communication so they have accurate expectations. None of this happens accidentally, like a PhD, you have to plan for it! Sean "Diddy" Combs, the 55-year-old music mogul, is currently detained at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center, facing serious charges including sex trafficking and racketeering. Over the Christmas holiday, reports emerged alleging that Combs experienced a significant emotional breakdown, struggling to cope with spending the festive season behind bars. Sources claimed he requested medical attention, believing he was having a mental breakdown, but his request was denied by prison officials. Despite these reports, conflicting accounts suggest that Combs managed to calm himself through meditation techniques and is maintaining his composure under the challenging circumstances.Combs' incarceration has also visibly impacted his physical appearance. Observers noted that he appeared noticeably thinner and grayer during a recent court hearing, indicating the toll that imprisonment is taking on him. Despite the austere conditions, including basic meals and limited recreational activities, Combs has been described by fellow inmates and prison staff as well-liked and is reportedly engaging in activities such as playing cards and basketball to pass the time. His legal team continues to prepare for his upcoming trial scheduled for May 2025, while Combs maintains his innocence against all charges.(commercial at 8:38)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Diddy's huge prison 'meltdown' revealed, as 'sex trafficker' rapper remains in hellhole jail | Daily Mail Online
