Jean Marsh passed away on the 13th April 2025 at the age of 90. She was a reknowned actress both in the UK and abroad, having worked in TV, film and theatre. For Doctor Who fans, she is best remembered for her roles as Johanna in The Crusade, Sara Kingdom in The Daleks' Masterplan, and Morgaine in Battlefield. She reprised the role of Sara on audio for Big Finish in The Companion Chronicles and Early Adventures ranges. Writer Simon Guerrier joins us for this episode of the podcast, and shares some of his memories of the times he spent with Jean. We'll also discuss his Sara Kingdom trilogy, which features the stories, "Home Truths", The Drowned World", and "Guardian of the Solar System". There'll be spoilers, so if you haven't heard them, we recommend you grab them from the Big Finish website and have a listen to them first. They are fantastic! We also have some special tributes to Jean from her Battlefield co-stars, Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred. We sadly learned that another member of the Doctor Who family had passed away at the weekend. Jean Marsh - better known to fans as Princess Joanna, Morgaine and perhaps best of all as Sara Kingdom - died at the age of 90. In tribute Kenny and Dave discuss their memories of Jean, and are joined by Simon Guerrier, who wrote five of the six main stories to feature Sara. And courtesy of our friend James Hadwen-Bennett, we present Jean speaking at the Invasion convention in 2003, when she was interviewed by J Jeremy Bentham. James also shares his memories of Jean's panel. Jean Marsh - 1934-2025.

In this episode, Rev Brianna Lynn dives deep into the themes of embodied aliveness, the power of rage, and the spiritual fight against the patriarchy. She discusses the importance of reconnecting with our feeling bodies—beyond just emotions—and how that aliveness can be a radical force for change. Brianna highlights the historical and ongoing suppression of women, particularly through the witch hunts, and how that legacy still impacts us today. She shares her powerful reflections on the rise of feminine energy, including figures like Kali, Morgaine, and Hecate, and how reclaiming this power is vital for healing and transformation. Additionally, Brianna embodies and talks about disassembling the empire through a soft revolution—a movement that challenges oppressive structures with compassion, strength, and embodied sovereignty. The conversation also touches on the role of ritual, community, and grief in finding strength and freedom.

I have fallen in love with Mary Morgaine Squire's plant love letter newsletters lately, and when I sat down to interview her, it was made even more clear to me just how deep her connection with the herbs is! I'm excited that she chose ginkgo (GIngko biloba) for her herb – it's a new plant for the show and one I haven't worked with much myself. I really enjoyed learning more about it. I'm even trying to find a place to grow a ginkgo tree in my own yard now!Mary shared so many wonderful things during our conversation – from a plant meditation to an excerpt from her love letter to ginkgo, plus her recipe for Sweet Memory Tea. You can download your very own copy of Mary's lovely recipe here.By the end of this episode, you'll know:► The connections between the history of ginkgo, its physical structure, and its medicinal benefits► The best time of year to harvest ginkgo leaves► How working with ginkgo can benefit your mind and heart► Two ways to combine ginkgo with other herbs to enhance their own gifts► and so much more…For those of you who don't know her, Mary Morgaine Squire, aka Mary Plantwalker, is a land steward, writer, educator, ceremonialist and avid gardener living in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. She began her walk with the plants at Fairhaven College in the early 90's while earning a BA in sustainable living, and later traveled the world to learn from the plants and healers of indigenous cultures. Matthew Wood, Frank Cook and Juliet Blankespoor have been some of her many herbal teachers along the way.Mary Morgaine creates sacred sanctuary wherever she goes, pouring her life energy into the space around her. Herb Mountain Farm, a healing botanical sanctuary that hosts events, a forest school and residential community, has been her home for many years and she is devoted to stewarding it with loving care. Her joy arises while tending the land and documenting the life unfolding on this magical planet through writing, photography and collage. Her prayer is that this work will inspire others to care deeply for our Mother Earth. As a plantfolk woman, Mary Morgaine walks her talk by steeping herself daily in the spirit of the plants whether it's eating something wild, drinking herbal tea, sitting under a tree or giving voice to the plant nation. She is an eternal student of the natural world and generously shares with others how to strengthen their personal relationship with the plants around them and find their passion for embracing conscious earth stewardship. She offers regular Appalachian Tea Ceremonies, Plant Walks, and other earth-based workshops and is the author of a weekly subscription newsletter called Earth Devotions. If you'd like to hear more from Mary, which I highly recommend, then head to the show notes where you can get easy links for her website and social media channels. Join the Well Read Dames as we read this feminist classic from 1983 by Marion Zimmer Bradley, which turns the tale of Camelot on its head. Join us as we sift through the sands of time and seek out clues that hint at her potential factual existence.
This week's interview is a little bit different from normal as I welcome back a previous guest Food Futurologist and director of Bellwether Food Trends, Dr. Morgaine Gaye. Morgaine explores food and eating from a social, cultural, economic, branding, and geo-political perspective. She also consults food companies, developing new products and ideas; writing trend reports for forecasting sites to PR and ad agencies. Morgaine was staying with me during this year's SXSW where she was presenting Trend to Table, her latest trends presentation, and the title of her upcoming book. Therefore I used the opportunity to have her share some of the trends she's witnessing. Besides discussing some of these macro trends we also discuss when we first met back in 2008 when I was running a digital team at McCann London. We reflect on how we developed an edible beauty product and brand prototype which was ahead of its time and how life choices set us on different paths and led us to miss the opportunity to build what would have been a groundbreaking product. This conversation was somewhat cathartic for me and hopefully provides some encouragement to anyone working to bring execute an idea to persist, take action, and test it in-market.What We Discuss00:00 Intro 03.15 Mark asks Morgaine to discuss the raw cacao collaboration from 2009. 05:15 Morgaine explains the health benefits of raw cacao. 07:45 Mark explains how he formed a skunk works team internally at McCann. 09:00 How the idea of positioning the cacao chocolate as edible beauty product emerged.14:00 Why the idea remained no more than a prototype?17:00 Lessons learned from the project.18:40 Morgaine discusses her SXSW trends presentation and subject of her new book.20:20 Examples of the big trends such as what it means to be human?24:00 The changing role of ‘the table' at home and the unraveling.27:00 Other changing food trends such as the use of ‘air' in food.30:35 The use of ‘air protein' in food.34:50 Why she wrote her book35:30 The Dirty dozen and the Clean Fifteen from the Environmental Working Group 38:00 Permaculture 38:50 Morgaine's hope for the futureSocial Links Instagram Facebook LinkedinEmail Links Show The Dirty dozen and the Clean Fifteen from the Environmental Working Group Hosted on Acast.

Episode #64 is a conversation with Mary Morgaine Plantwalker of Herb Mountain Farm in Weaverville, NC. This episode was recorded in person in the gardens of Herb Mountain Farm August 2021. Mary Morgaine Plantwalker is one of the main caretakers of Herb Mountain Farm alongside her partner, Hart Squire. Located in the oldest mountains on earth, Herb Mountain Farm was established in 1970, originally as an organic vegetable and flower farm, by Hart Squire and his family, in Weaverville, North Carolina. Herb Mountain Farm was a piece of land that had been overgrazed, logged and farmed unsustainably for over a century and needed a lot of conscious stewarding to build up the soil that had been washed away to the Mississippi Delta. Hart, with the help of many hands over the decades, brought in organic matter and plant diversity. For decades, Hart sold vegetable and flowers from the farm to local markets, restaurants and grocers, then built an earth-bermed warehouse on the property for the organic farmers in the area, called Hart Distributing, which eventually grew into a distribution center for organic ale and wine – long before Asheville was beer city! Hart spent several years in California, opening one of the first farm to table restaurants called ‘The Seasons' in the 1970's. In 2005, Mary Morgaine (aka Mary Plantwalker) came to work on Herb Mountain Farm's garlic production crew and first met Hart. She worked there for a few years before starting her own business, Earth Dancers, where she taught an array of “Plants as Allies” classes and workshops. In 2010, Buchi Kombucha took over the warehouse and began what grew into a very successful fermented health drink business. Buchi remained on the farm until they outgrew the space in 2016. In 2011, Hart and Mary Morgaine reconnected and fell in love. They married in 2012, and their union birthed the vision to transition the farm into a Learning Center and Botanical Sanctuary. In 2013, their daughter, Nadia, was born and has been absorbing the gardening and plant knowledge of her parents since day one and gives Hart and Mary Morgaine the inspiration to keep sailing on for the future generations. Alles Liebe Deine Madlen

When a food business searches for a competitive advantage, they look into the food industry’s future. Doing this is not easy, however. It takes a particular superpower to see what is coming - and companies must find a skillful food futurologist. Not some “woo woo” physic. With the company’s future at stake, they need an expert - someone who can take big data and combine it with a knowledge of food history, environmental design, fashion, quantum physics, and quantum philosophy. Throw in talent with pattern recognition, and you have Dr. Morgaine Gaye. Morgaine founded Bellwether: Food Trends, the world’s first food trend research compendium. She also has her own health-food line of products called Edible Love, which sells globally online. Morgaine looks at food and eating from a social, cultural, economic, trend, branding, and geopolitical perspective and predicts trends up to 10 years in the future.

Guest overview Dr. Morgaine Gaye's path to being a leading thinker in Food Futurology was any but predictable. As an only child with a partying, Butcher for a mother and an ex-pat bodybuilding construction worker for a father, she grew up in a home with little money, love, attention, and direction. Self-parenting was her only option as she immersed herself in art, books, and a fantasy world. Leaving school at sixteen, she traveled to the middle east, spent a year at university in Wisconsin, and by 19 was working as a ‘weather girl' on Hong Kong TV. She discusses drifting through life until finding herself in the game-changing spiritual community at Findhorn and how serendipity led her to discover Quantum Philosophy and starting her PhD.Upon discovering she had always been seeking connection, she was drawn to the universal connector - food. Morgaine breaks down why she focuses on the future of food and we cover how we first met in 2007 working on the development of a raw chocolate bar. Morgaine explains the disruptive decade we have been living through and why we are moving from a phase of life ‘Having' to a phase of ‘knowing' and the seminal shifts that will occur in society, as we become more nature-focused, on an eco-future of biophilia, rewilding and experience the rise of hyper-local communities, and why our global economy will evolve, she observes how fast countries closed borders.Morgaine discusses her experience of suffering from Covid-19 and losing her sense of smell, which has been her superpower. We discuss her principles, her hard choices, how 9/11 led her to launch her own brand of superfood and her perspectives on diets, DNA, and genetics.I hope you enjoy the artistry, vision, and philosophy of Dr. Morgaine Gaye. The discussion includes their first exposures to the Mri, Morgaine, and the Chanur, the deep history of the Alliance/Union universe, the portrayal of the outsider’s perspective, and how they are all woefully behind on the Foreigner books. The esoteric study of Astrology is over 4,000 years old and perhaps it is time for an upgrade! That is what our conversation with guest astrologer, Bryn Morgaine centers around today. According to Bryn, "Our understanding of our solar system, the Galaxy and Universe beyond has grown exponentially in the last 30 years...This has produced a number of new areas in Astrology where the observations of our solar system require that our understanding of Astrology be upgraded." In Bryn's work, there are up to 6 specific areas that revisions in astrology may be taking place: 1. Dwarf Planets in the Solar System 2. Pluto as a dwarf planet in a binary planetary system 3. Asteroids in Astrology 4. New understanding of Virgo & Libra 5. Deep Sky Phenomena 6. Shift in location of the constellations since the Zodiac quadrants were orginally defined. Tune in today to hear about these exciting changes that are upon us in the astrology world. We will be doing readings, as well, on how these new phenomena effect your astrology charts. If you would like a reading, please email me your birth information (time, place & date) to janet@living-astrology.com by 3:00 pm Pacific on Thurs., June 11. Call into the show for questions or for your readings at 347-205-9869. We look forward to hearing from you!
In this episode of Here's My Secret Alicia speaks with Morgaine Butler. A student at St. Catherine University who participated in the SisterStory project as a student oral historian in the Fall of 2014. During her semester Morgaine was paired with Sister Florence Steichen, CSJ who is a Sister of St. Joseph in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The first thing she learned about writing a blog post is that she had no idea how to write a blog post, but did know how to write stories. Not being especially religious, Morgaine grew to have a deep respect and appreciation for the perspectives offered by Sister Florence. "The idea that church, that sacred space, is portable is very different." The sound of explosions leads the TARDIS crew into the acquaintance of Brigadier Bambera of , in charge of a nuclear missile convoy. Following from the encounter, the retired Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart is informed of the Doctor's return, and a is sent to his country home to collect him, against the protests of his wife, Doris. Later, at the Gore Crow hotel, the Doctor and Ace meet a young woman called Shou Yuing, who shares Ace's love of . Meanwhile, as Bambera stops to examine a blue , she is caught in the crossfire between two groups of armoured knights, using both swords and futuristic guns. The Doctor shows interest in a , excavated from the battlefield. The scabbard is hot to the Doctor's touch, and the hotel owner's blind wife, Elizabeth, says she can sense it waiting for something, or someone. When the archaeologist Warmsly arrives at the hotel, he dates the scabbard to the . The Doctor senses that it has been waiting for far longer. As Ace and Shou Yuing share a talk about explosives, a knight sails through the brewery's roof, making a huge commotion. On investigation, the Doctor, Ace and Shou Yuing find the knight Ancelyn — who wakes, to recognize the Doctor as "". While the Doctor mulls the portent of this revelation, the party is surrounded by an ominous group of knights. Bambera faces down their leader, . He is shocked to see "Merlin", who he believed bound by his mother, . Following some vague threats from the Doctor, Mordred's knights retreat. Later, as Mordred begins an arcane ritual, the scabbard in the hotel flies across the room. Morgaine arrives on the scene through a rift in space and time; she proceeds to psychically taunt the Doctor. The next day, Warmsly shows the Doctor where he uncovered the scabbard. They find a rune, which the Doctor translates to "Dig hole here." On further question, he replies that it is his own handwriting. Using a canister of Nitro-9, Ace blows an opening. On arrival in Carbury, Lethbridge-Stewart's helicopter is shot down by Morgaine's sorcery. As Morgaine's knights hold a remembrance ceremony for the soldiers of Earth's world wars, Lethbridge-Stewart has a peaceable encounter with Morgaine — though she threatens Lethbridge-Stewart, in the event they should meet again. The Doctor and Ace enter a chamber under the lake, finding the door keyed to the Doctor's voice. The Doctor tells Ace that this "Merlin" may well be a future version of himself. Presently, they realize that the chamber is part of an organic spaceship. They also find the body of . When Ace removes a sword from a plinth, she activates a defence mechanism, unleashing a hostile, glowing entity. In attempt to hide, Ace enters an alcove. A door closes, and the alcove starts to fill with water. As Ace yells for help, the entity knocks the Doctor unconscious. The Doctor recovers just in time to fiddle with a control panel, and eject Ace from the space ship. As Ancelyn and Warmsly stand at the shore, discussing the , Ace emerges, still grasping the sword. Ancelyn identifies it as . The Brigadier arrives on-scene, in time to destroy the creature below the lake and rescue the Doctor. Mordred and Morgaine go to the hotel, to retrieve Excalibur. When Lavel shoots, Morgaine simply catches her bullet with sorcery. Morgaine takes knowledge from Lavel's mind, then turns her body to dust. As she leaves, she pays Mordred's drinking tab by restoring Elizabeth's sight. Meanwhile, UNIT troops are staging an evacuation. The Brigadier shows off some of UNIT's specialized ammunition, and the Doctor inquires about silver bullets. The Doctor instructs Ace to draw a chalk circle around herself, to protect against Morgaine's sorcery. He then drives off in his old car, , hoping to halt a battle between Morgaine's knights and the UNIT soldiers. A storm breaks outside the hotel, so Ace and Shou Yuing draw the circle around themselves and Excalibur. A localized night falls. Within the circle, Ace and Shou Yuing start to bicker. Ace nearly leaves the circle, before they realise they are being toyed with. Just as Mordred and Ancelyn are about to fight, the Doctor intervenes. Mordred, however, reveals that this battle is merely a ruse to lure the Doctor, and that Morgaine has summoned of Worlds. Morgaine appears before Ace and Shou Yuing, and tries to entice them to hand over Excalibur. When they refuse, she unleashes the Destroyer. The Doctor and the Brigadier capture Mordred, and set off for the hotel. Meanwhile, Morgaine is occupied with Ace's circle. On return, the Doctor finds the hotel in ruins yet Ace and Shou Yuing safe. He is pleased to hear that Ace gave up Excalibur to Morgaine, if doing so protected her. In the debris, the Doctor finds a portal to Morgaine's castle; he, the Brigadier, and Ace enter. On arrival, the Brigadier shoots the Destroyer, to no effect. The Destroyer's return volley sends the Brigadier flying through the window. Ace bursts through the portal, ramming into Morgaine, knocking Excalibur from her grasp. Morgaine releases the Destroyer's bonds. In the confusion, she scoops up Excalibur and enters the gateway along with Mordred. Outside, the Doctor readies the Brigadier's revolver and silver bullets — yet the Brigadier knocks him out, retrieves his gun, and faces the Destroyer alone. After some dialog, the Brigadier empties the revolver into the Destroyer's chest. The Doctor wakes to find the castle engulfed in flames. He spots the Brigadier's prostrate form, and begins to mourn his fallen friend — at which point the Brigadier stirs and rises, scuffed but unharmed. Back at the convoy, Morgaine and Mordred attempt to detonate the nuclear missile. The Doctor confronts Morgaine, insisting that there is no honor to nuclear warfare. She agrees, then asks to fight Arthur in single combat. He tells her of Arthur's death, to her sadness. The Doctor prevents Mordred from killing Ancelyn, and asks Bambera to imprison Mordred and Morgaine. Back at the Brigadier's house, Doris thumbs her nose at her husband by going for a drive in Bessie with Ace, Shou Yuing, and Bambera, leaving him and the other men to do the gardening and prepare supper. Continuity As broadcast, this story marks a costume change for the Seventh Doctor. (Initially, was meant as the first story of the season, and an outfit reveal was built in partway through the story.) Most of his clothing is darker, most notably his coat which is now dark brown as opposed to the light grey in previous seasons. This was to represent his darker, more manipulative character. This costume would continue until the end of the classic series' run. When the Seventh Doctor next appears in the 1996 TV movie, he is wearing a completely re-designed outfit with only his hat remaining (which was owned by Sylvester McCoy). It is implied that Merlin is, or will be, a future of the Doctor. It is also possible that Merlin is an alternate Doctor from the same that Morgaine and the rest of the knights are from. The Doctor mentions that they are several years in Ace's future. A £5 coin is in common circulation. The Doctor, talking to the new Brigadier, mentions Yeti (), Autons ( and ), Daleks (), Cybermen () and Silurians ().Bessie appears for the first time since , with the numberplate 'WHO 7', though the actual car used is a different model from that featured earlier; in the Doctor's personal chronology, he was last shown using the vehicle soon after his regeneration into the in (in The Five Doctors the vehicle is only used by the ).This story marks the last appearance of the console room in the classic series. The set itself which had been in use since had been destroyed in between seasons so a cheap mock-up (with a curtain standing in for the wall) was used here.[] The lighting in this scene is very low to disguise this, although the console itself survived and was used.UNIT itself would not appear again on television until the story , after which it would be seen in the 's initial outing, , and several subsequent stories. The organization was also referred to in the spin-off and represented by its medical officer, , in .This story is the last appearance in the television series of Brigadier Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart, after 21 years in the series since his first appearance in in 1968's . The character has subsequently appeared in several spinoff stories, including short stories, novels and audio dramas. The canonicity of these is unclear. 'Sir Alistair' was mentioned in the 2008 episode, , as still being an active member of UNIT and will reappear in the last story of the second season of the series in . Gary & Ruthie x x x News & Views We discuss news that listener Jason tells us about - new stone circle in Australia and a similar one being constructed near us, at Knockhatch. The Australian Standing Stones began as an ambitious project by a small, dedicated group of citizens who wanted to mark Glen Innes's Celtic heritage. It was in Australia's 1988 Bicentenary Year that the Celtic Council of Australia developed the idea of erecting a national monument to honour all Celtic peoples who helped pioneer Australia. Glen Innes responded with a 46-page submission for Australian Standing Stones, inspired by the Ring of Brodgar in Scotland's Orkneys. Australian Standing Stones Alignment Details Sussex Peace Circle Peace Stones the Out of the Ordinary Festival Kesh Jig by The Connemara Stone Company The Connemara Stone Company have been together since 1995, and all played previously in various Folk-Rock Groups, which is soon obvious when you see them live on stage. Right from the start they decided to rearrange Traditional Celtic music into modern Folk-Rock songs and tunes. Apart from that, it was very important to them to bring Folk music to the younger generation. To their surprise not only did the younger generation like their music. This was more as apparent as they played a concert with “Wishbone Ash”, the audience being (putting it mildly) a little bit older. They have kindly given us permission to play a wonderful piece of foot-tapping music, called the Kesh Jig from their album, Birds & Beasts. See the Myspace page and hear more music or visit their homepage, Connemara Stone. Lughnasadh: The Land Gives Birth by Shae Clancy and Francine Nicholson Shae Clancy and Francine Nicholson have collected essays from Celtic scholars to form a fascinating book that helps to explain the difference between Celtic fact (what we actually know) from Celtic fiction (what we speculate). Sadly, the book has never been published and Francine passed away in 2003. Shae has enabled the book to be published on the web. Francine Nicholson, M.A., was a librarian in New England and scholar of all things Celtic. The loss of her passing, perhaps appropriately on 1 February 2003 (Imbolc), is poignantly crystallised by fellow Celtic scholar, David Stifter: 'It is very sad news to hear that Francine Nicholson has left us. She had a vast and astounding erudition and knowledge of Celtic mythology and folklore, and her contributions . . . were a great source of enrichment and information. I feel it as a heavy loss that she will no longer contribute to our discussions.' Lughnasadh by Damh the Bard Damh is a modern-day Bard whose spirituality, and love of folk tradition, is expressed through his music, storytelling and poetry. Drawing on the Bardic traditions his performances are both entertaining and educational, weaving a tapestry of myth, peace, and anthems that speak directly to the heart, but never without a good splash of humour. Damh is a musical storyteller who works within the world of myth that cannot be proved; where the Faerie really do dance on Midsummer's Eve, where the trees talk, and the Hollow Hills take you into the realms of Annwn. Where the Goddess rides her horse, guiding you to magic, and the Horned God of old calls us from the shadows of the Greenwood. You can find his music on iTunes, Woven Wheat Whispers or from his website, Pagan Music. He is also the voice behind Druidcast, the official podcast of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids (OBOD, for short) - modern day Druids. White Rose of Avalon by Kelley Heckart Kelley Heckart lives in Arizona with her husband, Michael, and their two dogs, Hercules and Xena. Kelley was born with a vivid imagination and a fascination with ancient history and the supernatural. Though she resides on the earthly realm, she always has one foot firmly planted in the otherworldly realm of mystical creatures and magic. She has written numerous short stories and song lyrics. This is her first novel. In addition to writing books, she also enjoys playing and writing music, and designing crosses out of driftwood. Currently, she is working on a sequel to Of Water and Dragons. Of Water and Dragons can be found on her website, www.kelleyheckart.com, www.amazon.com, www.booksurge.com and many other online stores. If your local bookstore doesn't have it in stock, it can easily be ordered. With the land falling into Saxon hands, the Christian monks make a pact with Morgaine, Queen of the Faeries. She promises to give them a High King who will unite the Britons against the Saxons if he takes a queen from the faery realm. She hopes this will restore the Goddess faith, bringing Avalon back to its rightful place and not hidden within the mists. Lancelot is sent to guard the future High King, but when a love potion falls into the wrong hands, all seems lost. Gwenhwyfar is the only hope for the future, but betrayal, revenge and forbidden love surround her, threatening to destroy the lives of four people, and send Britain and Avalon into ruins.
