Has Christ returned as a female in China? Believe it or not, this is the shameless assertion of the Church of the Almighty God, also known as Eastern Lightning. Unfortunately, this is not a fringe group of fanatics, but a cult that is growing globally with millions of devotees and deep pockets. This edition of Hank Unplugged is dedicated to discussing the dangers of Eastern Lightning, what CRI is doing to combat the cults and how you can help make a difference. For further study: CRI Resource: The Eastern Lighting Cult: Christ Returns to Earth as a Female? https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resource-special-print-issue-48-02-03-the-eastern-lighting-cult-christ-returns-to-earth-as-a-female-hup1225/As a preview of the extensive and new primary research done on this topic, please see Hank's From the President column from this issue, “Christ Returns to Earth as a Female — An Exposé of the Eastern Lightning Cult “ https://www.equip.org/articles/christ-returns-to-earth-as-a-female-an-expose-of-the-eastern-lightning-cult/ and also one of the feature articles by Hank, “Contrasting Eastern Lightning Deception and Essential Christian D-O-C-T-R-I-N-E”.https://www.equip.org/articles/contrasting-eastern-lightning-deception-and-essential-christian-d-o-c-t-r-i-n-e/

Welcome back to Transmissions with Jason P. Woodbury. This week on the show, a return guest: Steve Wynn of The Dream Syndicate and solo fame. He last joined the show part of a trio: in 2018, we taped with him, Howe Gelb of Giant Sand, and Robyn Hitchcock live at the KXCI studio at Hotel Congress in Tucson Arizona. That talk also made it into the Transmissions feed again in 2020. This time, Steve is with us to discuss the 40th anniversary reissue of The Dream Syndicate's second album, 1984's Medicine Show, which has been reissued in expanded form by Fire Records. Produced by Blue Öyster Cult and Clash associate Sandy Pearlman, the album found the Syndicate jumping from the smaller Slash indie label to A&M. But it also found Wynn shifting his songwriting approach into darker territory, embracing a kind of pulp fiction, hardboiled crime aesthetic that paired well with the group's rangy, intense sound, which had been amplified and solidified during the tours that followed the band's debut, 1982's The Days of Wine and Roses. Wynn is a tremendous conversationalist, and this convo opened us up to plenty of fascinating terrain, from record store lore to interactions with bands like R.E.M. and U2, as well as lots of behind the scenes info on Medicine Show. Transmissions is created in partnership with the Talkhouse Podcast Network. We're brought to you by Aquarium Drunkard, an independent music media crew headed by Justin Gage. Over at Aquarium Drunkard, you'll gain access to 20 years of music writing, playlist, essays, mixtapes, radio special, podcasts, videos and more.

This week, we jump back to the 80s! Hear faves from Blondie, Bowie, Iggy, Siouxsie, The Cult and more. Also, "What It Was" spotlights three songs, from three different bands, where we go from the demo to the actual release. Rock. Mock. Dance. Laugh.
He gives away islands, cures blindness, builds chocolate empires, and commands an online following bigger than some nations... but is he just a YouTuber, or the leader of a full blown digital devotion movement? This week, Reese is joined by Rolling Stone journalist Steven Asarch (@capmiserable) to break down The Cult of Mr. Beast, the hyper optimized, hyper "philanthropic", hyper everything empire that has millions of fans ready to click, defend, and worship at the altar of virality. We're analyzing how Mr. Beast's feel good spectacle blurs the line between generosity and influence. Why do fans treat him like a savior? What does it mean when entertainment starts to look like charity... or the other way around? And how much power does a creator have when his followers are willing to do almost anything for a shoutout? Grab your Feastables and your moral ambiguity: we're diving into the algorithmically engineered rabbit hole that sounds like a cult.

But in the years that followed, stories of sexual, financial and labor abuse and manipulation in OneTaste emerged. The first week of December isn't just for cozy rom-coms and twinkling lights. On this episode of This Week in Horror History, we dig into the spooky side of December 1–7, charting travel nightmares, cursed deserts, classic Universal monsters, and a knife-clawed college mascot turning school spirit into a bloodbath. We kick things off with Turistas (2006), the mid-2000s travel horror where a dream backpacking trip in Brazil plunges into organ-harvesting terror. It's that “don't get on the bus” era of horror, loaded with sweaty paranoia and the ugly underside of “exotic” tourism. From there, we head to the desert with Scalps (1983), a shoestring-budget curse shocker about archaeology students who dig on sacred land and unleash a vengeful spirit. It slipped quietly into limited December release but later clawed out a cult following on home video and streaming thanks to its gritty, regional DIY vibe. Then we turn back the clock to House of Dracula (1945), one of Universal's last serious monster mash-ups. Dracula, the Wolf Man, and Frankenstein's monster all converge on a tormented doctor who thinks he can “cure” them — and instead gives us a fog-drenched fever dream of capes, neck bolts, and mad science that feels tailor-made for chilly December nights. Our Deep Cut Spotlight goes to Girls Nite Out (1982), a campus slasher originally released as The Scaremaker. A college basketball win kicks off an all-night scavenger hunt, while a killer in the school's bear mascot costume stalks the grounds with steak knives strapped to its paws. It's pure early-'80s slasher energy — dorm drama, campus radio, locker-room stalking — that barely made a ripple in theaters but was rescued by VHS and, eventually, a boutique Blu-ray restoration. We also roll through a Birthday Roll for horror heavy hitters born this week — from Sean S. Cunningham and Tony Todd to genre-shaping talents behind slashers, supernatural sequels, and expressionist nightmares — and talk about how their work threads through the films we're spotlighting. To wrap it all up, we land on a Weekly Recommendation that fits perfectly with early December: Edward Scissorhands (1990). It's the ultimate snowy, suburban gothic fairy tale — pastel houses, winter loneliness, and a gentle “monster” whose ice-carved sculptures make the snow fall — ideal for horror fans easing into holiday mode without losing that eerie edge. This episode of This Week in Horror History is brought to you in part by Savorista — the spooky-friendly coffee brand serving bold, gourmet flavors in decaf and half-caf roasts so you can binge horror without wrecking your sleep. Head to Savorista.com, pick out your favorite light, medium, or dark roast, and use promo code SPOOKY at checkout to get 25% off your first order. Every purchase supports the show directly and keeps the horror history rolling. If you love horror podcasts, physical media, and deep-cut genre history, queue this one up and let This Week in Horror History program your first December horror marathon.

On this episode of Cults, Culture & Coercion, I sat down with one of my most trusted colleagues and best friends, Jon Atack—author, artist, poet, musician, and the recognized world expert on Scientology. Jon's latest book, If Scientology Ruled the World: Nazi Occultists, Sex Magick, Space Aliens, and the Second Coming, begins with a chilling thought experiment: what if Scientology actually took power? To be clear: Jon does not believe that Scientology — which is facing serious challenges in maintaining current members and recruiting new ones — could ever gain enough popularity to control any government, let alone all the world's governments. Still, with its extreme beliefs and ruthless disregard for human rights, Scientology could serve as a stand-in for any authoritarian movement. And there are many active Scientology offshoots. As I argue in my book The Cult of Trump, authoritarianism exists worldwide, and harmful groups influence politics through lobbyists, cash, and manufactured populism. Maybe a Scientology group won't take over, but the idea that a destructive movement could dominate a nation, or even the world, isn't far-fetched. In this book, Jon connects the dots with Nazi occultism and Hubbard, destroys eugenics, Nazi Aryan race theory, and so much more. With Nazism on the rise worldwide, this is a really important book—easy to read yet fastidious in its research. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Lee and Daniel are joined by Lee's long-time best friend Peter to talk about a movie they bonded over back in high school in the late 1990s, "The Stöned Age" (1994), directed by James Melkonian. This R-rated stoner buddy comedy feels like the crude love child of "Dazed and Confused" & "Wayne's World". Is it perhaps better than both of those films? Is it at least more fun? Do you want to play submarine? Don't be a worm, bring a case of Ox 45 along (they better be fucking talls!), and listen in. "The Stöned Age" IMDB Lee on Bluesky, Instagram, and Letterboxd. In this episode of Cult of the Living Dead, we brave the apocalyptic world of Black Friday, where retail hell turns literal as a parasitic alien outbreak crashes the biggest shopping night of the year. The Dale, Cea, and Twan break down how the film recreates what it's like to work retail, and how the customers are the real monsters all along. We dig into the the underwhelming story and how not even Bruce Campbell could save this movie from the bargain bin. We ask whether Black Friday is a goofy creature feature, a workplace satire, or the world's most cathartic therapy session for anyone who's ever worked a holiday shift.

Let's do this! The Cult of Hockey podcast. By the Faithful and for the Faithful. Today Kurt Leavins of the Edmonton Journal digs into the Edmonton Oilers 4-0 win over the Kraken of Seattle Introduction: In the latest episode of the Cult of Hockey podcast, hosts David Staples and Kurt Levin delve into the Edmonton Oilers' much-anticipated 4-0 victory over the Seattle Kraken. This win comes at a crucial time for the team, signaling a potential turning point in their season. Join us as we explore key takeaways from the game, highlighting standout performances and what it means for the Oilers moving forward. Main Content: Setting the Scene: The Oilers' Need for a Win The Oilers entered this game with a palpable sense of urgency. As David noted, they were a desperate team looking to secure a victory after a string of inconsistent performances. Kurt echoed this sentiment, observing that the team's determination was evident from the first period, as they played with a level of intensity that had been missing in prior matches. Defensive Improvements: A Shift in Strategy One of the most striking aspects of the Oilers' performance was their improved defensive strategy. David pointed out that the team maintained a key player high in the offensive zone throughout the game. This strategy was exemplified by Matt Savoyie who effectively halted a dangerous rush early on. The Oilers seemed more disciplined, resisting the urge to overcommit to offense, a shift that was crucial to their success. Kurt added that the gap between forwards and defensemen shrank significantly, which contributed to a more cohesive defensive unit. This connection allowed for more effective puck movement and minimized turnovers, leading to a more controlled game. Key Player Highlights: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Stuart Skinner Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, returning from an injury, was a standout performer. Kurt praised his versatility, highlighting his contributions on both offense and defense. With a goal and an assist, Nugent-Hopkins showcased his ability to impact all facets of the game. David emphasized how crucial his presence is, especially when paired with talented veterans like Matthias Janmark and Adam Henrique. Together, they pose a formidable challenge for opposing teams, especially after facing the top lines of McDavid and Draisaitl. In addition to Nugent-Hopkins, goaltender Stuart Skinner made significant contributions to the Oilers' victory. David noted his improved technique, particularly his ability to "move and set" effectively in the crease. Throughout the game, Skinner displayed impressive puck-tracking skills, making key saves during critical moments, including a tense five-on-three situation that could have shifted the momentum. Looking at the Standings: A Competitive Western Conference As the Oilers look to build on this victory, they find themselves in a tightly contested Western Conference. David highlighted that despite their struggles, the standings reveal a unique parity this season, with only a few points separating the teams in the Pacific Division. This competitive landscape means that a winning streak could quickly change the Oilers' fortunes as they vie for a playoff spot. Conclusion: The Oilers' 4-0 win over the Seattle Kraken serves as a reminder of the team's potential when they play with discipline and determination. Key players like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Stuart Skinner stepped up to lead the charge, showcasing the depth and talent within the roster. Moving forward, consistency will be paramount for the Oilers as they aim to capitalize on this victory and climb the standings in a competitive conference.
In this 9AM Ask Me Anything service, Pastor Lucas Miles responds to real questions submitted by both our in-person congregation and online church family. After a brief introduction about the importance of open dialogue in the church, Pastor Lucas dives into a wide range of theological, cultural, and practical topics. Questions include personal reflections on Charlie Kirk, the difference between accepting Jesus as Savior versus Lord, whether people in heaven will know who is missing, and how to help children understand modern cultural and spiritual challenges. Pastor Lucas also addresses inquiries about young adult ministry, Catholic doctrine regarding stillborn children and baptism, whether someone can “out-sin” salvation, the meaning of Revelation 3:5, free will and praying for loved ones, the biblical case for (or against) purgatory, and perspectives on the rapture and end-times theology. He closes the Q&A by discussing the dangers of personality-driven Christianity and church leadership. The service then transitions into a powerful time of baptisms, celebrating new faith commitments, followed by communion and a closing prayer. Throughout the service, Pastor Lucas emphasizes humility, scriptural grounding, and the value of community as he encourages honest questions and thoughtful, biblically rooted discussion.Key Themes:Open Dialogue in the ChurchChristian Public FiguresSalvation and LordshipHeaven and Loved OnesProtecting Kids SpirituallyYoung Adult MinistryCatholic Doctrine and LossBaptism QuestionsSecurity of SalvationThe Book of LifeFree Will and PrayerPurgatoryEnd Times ViewsCult of PersonalityBaptismsCommunion and PrayerTimestamps:00:00 — Ask Me Anything begins (Main Talk / Intro) 04:15 — What was Charlie Kirk like? 06:36 — Difference between receiving Jesus as Savior vs. Lord 08:38 — Will we know who is not in heaven with us? 12:19 — How to explain Pagan/occult threats to kids 14:55 — Is a young adults group coming? 15:43 — Catholic question: What to say about a stillborn child? 18:58 — Should I be baptized as an adult if I was baptized as a baby? 20:47 — Can you out-sin your salvation? 24:22 — Revelation 3:5 — Can your name be erased from the Book of Life? 26:19 — Free will vs. praying for a loved one drifting into sin 30:52 — Is purgatory biblical? 35:04 — Do you believe in the rapture? Shortly thereafter, a Niedar dwarf named Francis offers to buy the bracelet and the heroes become very suspicious, interrogating and taunting him. He ends up leaving and approaches Gunner offering to buy it one last time, and when rejected, he moves on. Later that day a mysterious fire is started as Boros quickly puts it out. The heroes begin to grow suspicious, as if there is a connection between the dwarf, the cultists and the fire. The next morning Gunner discovers his bracelet missing, and they immediately grow suspicious that it must be the dwarf. They make a plan to confront him, but instead, Li'High reveals she took one of the parcels that fell out of the crashed caravan a week back and opening it reveals a necklace. They offer it to the dwarf, but he is not trusting of the heroes after the way they treated him, and increasingly as they continue to pester him. Li'High leaves into the wilderness by herself and renounces her god Habbakuk, desiring to worship Chemosh, but not knowing how to make the connection with the new god while she is on the road, and inadvertently is connected by Morgion. She rebukes him, and they all continue to a roadhouse where they eat. Some local adventurers are hired to guard their old wagon in the caravan. They search some of the wagons and mark the cultist wagons for future reference, then they continue on for a few days ending up in a brutally cold rainstorm. They arrive at another road house only to be turned away, and the hired adventurers refuse to help. Li'High breaks into the upper level and is contacted by Morgion again, and this time accepts. He creates a half-cask of diseased ale which is unable to be refused. Upon touching it, she contracts the fatal disease but is protected as an agent of Morgion. She murders the people in the inn, then sets it on fire. While it’s burning she steals food from the inn, tossing it to Boros who contracts the same disease and dies with his friends watching, too afraid to approach and help him, believing they were helpless. Li'High flees into the wilderness, consumed by sorrow and an unwilling agent of Morgion. For many, the landmark 2006 documentary The Secret was their first introduction to new age spiritualism and the law of attraction. This turned many of the Self-Help gurus featured in the documentary into overnight celebrities, including James Arthur Ray. From his “rockstar,” style seminars and in your face attitude, James rose to prominence by giving his attendees immense challenges, pushing them to breakthrough. But when a sweat lodge ran by James killed three people, the question remained: was he at fault? Did his teachings lead to this? Would he ever face justice or apologize? As part of our Hidden Killers 2025 Year in Review series, we're peeling back the layers of one of the most disturbing psychological power structures ever exposed in celebrity culture — the world of Sean “Diddy” Combs. In this gripping two-part special, Tony Brueski and retired FBI Behavioral Analyst Robin Dreeke dive deep into how fear, manipulation, and emotional dependency built an empire of silence around Diddy for decades. Why didn't more people speak up sooner? Dreeke reveals the three psychological levers that kept Diddy's inner circle compliant — even as the behavior around them crossed moral and legal lines. From fear-based loyalty and financial entanglement to the illusion of belonging, Dreeke dissects how coercive control can transform a celebrity brand into a psychological fortress. This episode doesn't just explore the headlines — it exposes the mechanics behind them. How does a person with immense power and charisma create a reality distortion field so strong that people rationalize the unthinkable? How do those closest to the source of abuse convince themselves they're “protected,” when in truth, they're prisoners of influence? Drawing from FBI behavioral science and decades of fieldwork, Dreeke and Brueski connect Diddy's alleged patterns to cult-style leadership psychology, trauma bonding, and the weaponization of loyalty. They break down how abusers in positions of fame exploit human nature's deepest needs — safety, validation, and identity — to ensure silence and complicity. This isn't just a celebrity scandal. It's a case study in toxic leadership, groupthink, and the quiet, corrosive power of fear. It's about how one man allegedly turned charisma into control — and how those around him, knowingly or not, became part of the machine that protected him.

This Black Friday, Cutting Deep into Horror takes you back to where modern terror truly began: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). Hosts Henrique Couto & Rachael Redolfi break down Tobe Hooper's legendary shocker — a film that reshaped horror with its brutal realism, suffocating Texas heat, and one of cinema's most terrifying families.Perfect for the Thanksgiving weekend, this episode explores how the movie's themes of family dysfunction, meat, ritual, survival, and rural dread hit especially hard during a holiday built around gathering and feasting. Henrique and Rachael examine the film's relentless pacing, groundbreaking sound design, and the cultural fears it tapped into — from urban-vs-rural anxiety to the collapse of safety in everyday America. They also dive into the chaotic production history, the cast's nightmare experiences, the infamous mob-linked distributor, and how Leatherface's legacy became an unexpected symbol of American horror. Whether you're recovering from turkey dinner or Black Friday chaos, this is the perfect way to lean deeper into seasonal fear.Inside this episodeThe Road Trip to Hell — How a simple drive and a cemetery visit turn into a descent toward madness. The Hitchhiker's Warning — Chaos arrives early, reshaping the tone and danger instantly. The House of Horrors — Bone art, slaughter rooms, and why the décor hits the deepest nerves.Sally Hardesty's Ordeal — A masterclass in survival horror, trauma, and sensory overload.Dinner With the Family — A disturbing, iconic sequence that redefined psychological horror.Production Hell — Sweat, heat, real injuries, and the grueling on-set reality behind the film's authenticity. Why TCM Still Terrifies — Minimalist brutality, stark realism, and cultural impact that still resonates.Thanksgiving & Horror — Why TCM unexpectedly fits the season of big meals and bigger family tension.Where to Watch The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (U.S.):Netflix – subscription
For a generation who felt like outsiders in the late 2000s, the emo scene felt like the one place where they could belong—and make sense of the chaos inside, as their favorite artists began to express the pain they held within their hearts: As Bert McCracken of The Used once said, “Music is church, therapy, and philosophy all wrapped up into one.” And that's exactly what this scene became. From the explosive confessions of “Take It Away” to Panic! at the Disco pacing the church aisles in “I Write Sins Not Tragedies,” from Hayley Williams of Paramore shouting “The truth never set me free—so I'll do it myself” to My Chemical Romance singing revenge, resurrection, and spiritual crisis across Three Cheers—emo wasn't afraid to rip open the human heart and let everything spill out. But what was quickly learned was that many who saw this as therapy could also take it to a place of no return. After 13-year-old Hannah Bond chose to delete herself, emo became Public Enemy Number 1. In 2008, the Daily Mail fired the headline heard around the globe: “Why No Child Is Safe from the Sinister Cult of Emo.” Suddenly, a culture built for struggling youth was being shown as something dark and dangerous, with fans of the genre fighting against the current of their day attempting to drift people away from the emotional music of the generation. But now it's 2025; those late-2000s outsiders have grown up—and emo is rising again. My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Taking Back Sunday, Jimmy Eat World—the bands who shaped a generation are continuing to play shows, and their fans are right back in their black eyeliner and emotional armor. What was emo really preaching? Because these weren't just break-up anthems—they were songs about identity, guilt, rebellion, spiritual confusion, and the longing for something beyond the pain. What we want to look at is the controversy, the comeback, and the worldview behind the music that became a church, therapy, and philosophy for millions. Chiefs owner Clark Hunt integrates his Christian faith into the team culture, leading quarterback Patrick Mahomes to become increasingly vocal about his belief. We question if Mahomes' public piety is genuine or a savvy form of career compliance, especially given the financial insecurity of non-guaranteed NFL contracts. This coercive atmosphere, previously linked to Christian nationalist rhetoric (like Harrison Butker's speech), highlights the dangers of blending theology with corporate power. We criticize the hypocrisy of wealthy team owners emphasizing prayer while ignoring global suffering.News Source:Essentially SportsBy Surab KumarNovember 9th, 2025
