City of Fayetteville: Building Commercial Revenue to Support Residents

Lori Funderwhite, director of economic development with the City of Fayetteville, joins Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio host Carol Morgan for this week's episode. Funderwhite discusses plans to attract new investment to Fayetteville in this podcast segment. The City of Fayetteville is working to revitalize its downtown district with new businesses and real estate development. By enhancing the commercial tax base, it can take some financial weight off its residents. In addition to bringing in new industry, Funderwhite explains that the City of Fayetteville invests in its existing businesses through support initiatives and community events. Two large-scale developments were recently unveiled in Town at Trilith and the U.S. Soccer National Training Center. What is the U.S. Soccer National Training Center? The United States Soccer Federation announced Fayetteville as its new headquarters and national training center. Slated to open right before Atlanta hosts the 2026 World Cup, this new facility will bring in revenue during the event and ongoing revenue as more games and practices are held at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center. The City of Fayetteville also plans to build new hotels and other lodgings to accommodate incoming soccer fans from across the globe. “With the headquarters relocation, there will be 400 new employees with that project working out of that facility, as well as, even after the World Cup, an anticipated 200,000 annual visitors a year for ongoing soccer events that they will be hosting at the National Training Center year-round,” said Funderwhite. “So, it's a great opportunity. We're very excited.” The decision to relocate U.S. Soccer headquarters to Fayetteville was influenced by the city's proximity to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and the numerous soccer-loving industry giants in Atlanta. Arthur Blank, owner of Atlanta United FC, was a major player in the decision, joined by Dan Cathy, CEO of Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A and chief visionary behind Town at Trilith and U.S. Soccer's long-time partner, Coca-Cola. These connections were instrumental in bringing soccer's vibrant energy and rich economy to the City of Fayetteville. Funderwhite said, “So, it's really a mix of several factors: a great location, great business climate in close proximity to the airport and Trilith in Fayetteville.” What does Town at Trilith offer residents? Town at Trilith is a 235-acre, mixed-use development that captivates residents with its elegance and charm. Development began just over 10 years ago, but Trilith has already brought in notable economic growth with Trilith Studios, residential offerings, a hotel and a wealth of shopping and dining. The second and third phases of the residential portion have begun and will feature 380 lots when completed. Coming soon, Trilith LIVE will offer premier live entertainment. With 1,000 audience seats and multiple sound stages, this space will be the perfect location for trade shows and performing arts showcases. Trilith provides entertainment and leisure for residents and has also driven relocation to Fayetteville and welcomed new creative professionals. As Trilith Studios and Trilith LIVE continue to establish and grow, Funderwhite says that the City of Fayetteville wants to make room for businesses that support the film and creative industries. Funderwhite said, “It's really an amazing project, and we're so excited to have this as a part of Fayetteville.” What's next for the City of Fayetteville? As more people relocate to Fayetteville, chasing jobs at the soccer training center and creative studios, the City intends to attract more medical businesses and technology companies that can work in tandem with the prospering industries. Funderwhite also hopes to bring new flavors for residents, including chef-driven restaurants and brewpubs. To promote wellness and add greenspace, the City is planning a series of walking trails connecting the area.

SummaryIn this episode of Service Evolution, host Jim Robinson explores the dynamic world of facility management, emphasizing the significant role technology has played in transforming the industry. Jim shares his journey in the space, highlighting how the shift from manually handwritten work orders to more sophisticated AI-driven processes has revolutionized efficiency and client satisfaction. One notable point Jim makes is the need for facility managers to embrace technological changes rather than shunning them. AI, despite its current verbosity and occasional ambiguity, has the potential to enhance operational efficiency. For instance, AI is already being used to generate detailed analytics on equipment life, driving behaviors, and safety measures, which leads to improved performance and cost savings.Additionally, Jim underscores the importance of continuous learning and adaptation. He shares an inspiring anecdote about Dan Cathy from Chick-fil-A, who would learn a new app daily to stay technologically current. This approach not only helped Cathy stay ahead but also ensured that his team benefited from the latest technological advancements. In conclusion, Jim's message is clear: facility managers must stay engaged, embrace technology, and continuously adapt to remain competitive. The transition might be challenging, but the long-term benefits, including increased efficiency and staying ahead of client demands, make it worthwhile. It's Thursday, August 29th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Ukraine bans religious groups with ties to Russia Last Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky  signed a bill into law that bans religious groups with ties to Russia. The legislation targets the Ukrainian Orthodox Church which has historical ties to Russia. Ukraine has prosecuted over 100 of its leaders. Religion News notes, “Anyone concerned with freedom of conscience and belief can find legitimate reasons to condemn criminal charges over opinions expressed on social media or from the pulpit, which has been the case of many Ukrainian Orthodox Church clerics jailed since the invasion.” Australia becomes hostile to religious freedom Faith groups in Australia have been calling for more protections for religious freedom. They warn that people are facing increased discrimination for their religious beliefs. A proposed Religious Discrimination Act would have protected religious freedom. However, the government announced it is scrapping the measure. It is even considering removing religious freedom protections in the current Sex Discrimination Act. Monica Doumit with the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney said, “It is disappointing that there remains very little protection against discrimination on the basis of religious belief or activity.”  New York censors abortion pill reversal information In the United States, New York has been trying to silence pro-life groups, like Heartbeat International, from sharing information about abortion pill reversals. In response, Alliance Defending Freedom is supporting pro-life groups against the state.  A federal court ruled the pro-life groups can keep sharing life-saving information as the case proceeds. The ruling noted, “The First Amendment protects Plaintiffs' right to speak freely about [abortion pill reversal] protocol and, more specifically, to say that it is safe and effective for a pregnant woman to use in consultation with her doctor.” Proverbs 24:11 says, “Deliver those who are drawn toward death, and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter.” U.S. fertility rate drops again The latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that the U.S. fertility rate continues to drop. The fertility rate fell 3% last year to 55 births per 1,000 women aged 15 to 44. That amounted to 3.6 million babies who were birthed last year, down 68,000 compared to 2022. The fertility rate has been falling for decades, especially since the 2008 Great Recession. The rate increased slightly in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, but has continued to fall since then.  Male voters prefer Trump; Female voters prefer Harris The New York Times released polling data from battleground states this month. The poll noted a gender gap in political preference, especially among young people. Men tended to support former President Donald Trump, while women tended to support Vice President Kamala Harris.  Among people aged 18 to 29, women favored Kamala by 38 percentage points, and men favored Trump by 13 points. That's a 51-point gender gap, up from a 39-point gap when President Joe Biden was still in the race for the White House.  Tulsi Gabbard: Kamala Harris is “afraid to debate Donald Trump” Former Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard, who just endorsed Trump for president on Monday night, talked to David Webb on the Sirius XM Patriot channel Tuesday to explain why she thinks Vice President Kamala Harris is “afraid” to debate Trump. Listen. GABBARD: “Donald Trump's campaign and Kamala Harris's campaign agreed to this debate on September 10 to the same rules that applied during the Trump-Biden debate on CNN that we already saw. “Now all of a sudden, we're just two weeks out this debate that they already agreed to, and Kamala Harris is trying to change the rules. She wants it to be a debate where they allow the mics to be live the entire time, where she can bring her notes in to the debate with her, and where they will be seated for the entire debate. “President Trump's position has been pretty clear. Where he says, hey, look, we already agreed to the terms of this debate. We should stick with those terms, which is the same rules that he debated Joe Biden under. The fact that Kamala Harris is trying to change the rules here now, just days out from when this debate is supposed to occur, I think it, to me, it says that she's afraid. She's afraid to debate Donald Trump. Her wanting to bring notes into this debate reinforces what we already know to be true, which is she absolutely struggles if she is not using a script, if she is not using a teleprompter. “If she can't debate Donald Trump on the issues, on her record and his record, frankly, without notes in front of her and without sitting down, she's got much bigger problems!” Florida's law banning transgender procedures for minors given green light The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that a Florida law can go into effect that bans transgender procedures. The law prohibits doctors from offering puberty blockers and body-mutilating surgeries to minors.  Republican Governor Ron DeSantis commented previously on the case, He said, “These procedures do permanent, life-altering damage to children, and history will look back on this fad in horror.” At least 26 states have passed laws to protect children from transgender procedures.  Chick-fil-A adds entertainment to menu Chick-fil-A has been America's favorite fast food restaurant for nearly a decade.  Now, the company is adding entertainment to the menu as it prepares to launch its own streaming service. The entertainment platform would focus on family-friendly content. Chick-fil-A's CEO Dan Cathy has previously spent millions of dollars transforming over 700 acres of farmland in Georgia. It's now home to the largest movie studio outside of Burbank, California.  100-year-long prayer chain launched hundreds of missionaries And finally, this week is the anniversary of when a Christian community in Herrnhut, Germany began a round-the-clock “prayer chain.” The community started after Count Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf opened his estate to Protestant refugees. On August 27, 1727, dozens in the community committed to pray in turns every hour of every day. The prayer chain reportedly lasted over one hundred years. The Moravian community went on to send hundreds of missionaries around the world, becoming the spearhead of Protestant missions.  Colossians 4:2 says, “Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, August 29th, in the year of our Lord 2024. Subscribe by Amazon Music or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.

At the age of 37, the University of Mississippi hired Jeff McManus as the Director of the newly formed Landscape Services Department. As one of the most junior directors on campus, the immediate challenges that faced him were staggering - exceptionally low morale with an unacceptable lack of productivity. In many ways, the Ole Miss landscape services was actually an extreme example of the same problems facing many organizations then and today. Jeff believed the challenges could be overcome with focused team effort. So, he established a four-step process he calls “The GROW System.” Jeff works from the position that everybody wants to be successful and they can be - by recognizing their personal potential. Great teams, Raising results, Offense scores and Winning Attitudes, these four things, formed Jeff's GROW System. Jeff has been praised by Forbes and the Huffington Post for his book, Growing Weeders into Leaders, where he shares how his team went from last place to being on the national stage. It wasn't long before PGMS, Newsweek, Princeton Review, and USA Today all recognized Jeff's teamwork and awarded their efforts with the nation's most beautiful campus designation. Dan Cathy, chairman of board of Chick fil A, had this to say about Jeff's book, “…[it] serves as a guide for all current and future leaders. As a member of the leadership team at Chick-fil-A, part of my job is to help define the future of our business. Ep. 112: Dan Cathy reveals the rewards of “leaving everything on the mat” as a state champion wrestler and member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. He is proudest of his service ethic, which has carried him for 40 years at the helm of the family business where he still welcomes guests with a firm handshake and the greeting, “Hi, I”m Dan. I work in customer service.” As delicious as Chick-fil-A food is, that's not people's greatest need, avers Cathy. “Their greatest need is being encouraged. Chick-fil-A's  purpose is that customers leave better and more encouraged than when they came in.” Our BONUS RESOURCE for this episode includes fill-in-the-blank notes and reflection questions so you can create powerful, positive change in your organization. As a leader, Dan believes that internal service quality will be reflected externally, which informed the decision to remain closed on Sundays.
