Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for March 8, 2025 is: gregarious grih-GAIR-ee-us adjective Gregarious is used to describe someone who enjoys the company of other people. // Justin's gregarious personality made it easy for him to get to know people at the networking event. See the entry > Examples: “How can we reap the benefits of deep connection if we are not naturally gregarious and extroverted? But as I have delved into the evidence, I have discovered that our social skills are like our muscles—the more we use them, the stronger they become. Even self-declared introverts can learn to be more sociable, if they wish.” — David Robson, BBC, 23 July 2024 Did you know? Everyone knows that birds of a feather flock together, so it comes as no surprise that gregarious was applied mainly to animals when it first began appearing in English texts in the 17th century. After all, gregarious comes from the Latin noun grex, meaning “flock” or “herd,” and it's tough to avoid being social when you're part of a flock, flying and roosting cheek by jowl (or beak) with your fellow feathered friends. Take starlings, for example, which congregate in massive numbers—we define the word starling as “any of a family of usually dark gregarious birds,” meaning that starlings are inclined to associate with others of their kind. By the 18th century gregarious was being used to describe social human beings as well, be they chatty Cathys or convivial Connors who relish being in the company of others.
This stage of Bike Shop Society features a Polish man who wants to see—and smell—what's cooking in the bike shop. Joe Torres is back with us and completely smitten by a mountain bike he encounters in the shop. Cold, rainy days seem to bring out the chatty Cathys around here, find out what they want and what they have to say.And finally, our Joe has zero sympathy for the situation some bike companies find themselves in—and he doesn't hold back when explaining why he thinks they deserve the pain they're going through. All this and much, much more. Nineteenth century novels remain rich fodder both for adaptation and complete reimagining. However, it is rarely as easy as writers and screenwriters believe to strike the balance between respect for the source material, alteration to provide accessibility for a modern audience and presenting the themes which made the book a classic in the first place. Hey everyone! This is a little clip from our recent Two Chatty Cathys bonus episode! We talked about:Post-veganism, part 2
I think the thing I enjoy so much about my conversations with Cathy is her hopefulness. She is not one to talk about her own past traumas, but she has shared some of it with me over the years and I can assure you that her life story is one that would make most people very pessimistic and withdrawn. Instead, her faith and her compassion for others has led her out of a very dark place into one where helping others is not only possible, but in her mind critical to her own healing.I think she's doing something very simple and incredibly difficult at the same time. She's living what she believes. Her faith that there is a reason for the traumas that she has endured and that God has used them to make her stronger and more able to help people that desperately need a life line. Her story is one of perseverance. her message is one of healing. I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure today's world could use a lot more Cathys.Cathy Lins worked as a consultant for many years by assisting numerous not-for-profit organizations to raise money to do work in communities with desperate needs. She has also given speeches and conducted workshops around the country specializing in fundraising techniques as well as help trauma survivors recover. Her current full-time project is Gather My Lost Sheep, which focuses on helping trauma survivors return to Catholic parishes and to restore their faith in Christ. She did this as a result of realizing that Priests aren't always trained in this and aren't sure what to do. In addition, stigma keeps the laity from talking about mental health issues. This results in Impacted families feeling isolated. Cathy became convinced that this isn't who the Church is meant to be. Gather My Lost Sheep strives to teach people to ask "How do I accompany someone who is hurting? How can I be Christ to them?"Over 70% of the population has experienced trauma. The events and isolation in 2020 have simply added to the strain on our mental health. Cathy decided to rethink evangelization and pastoral care when she saw the impact on people living with trauma and their mass exodus from the Church. As a national speaker working with US bishops and priests, she has talked about leadership in the Church at the parish and diocesan level. She brings technical knowledge and lived experience to this conversation. Thanks for listening. Please check out our website at www.forsauk.com to hear great conversations on topics that need to be talked about. In these times of intense polarization we all need to find time to expand our Frame of Reference.

We start off the show this week with some listener email. Yes, I said listener email. we at least have three listeners so far and she (April) has a lot of questions and comments. James Navé welcomes poet Cathy Linh Che to Twice 5 Miles Radio. Cathy was born after Apocalypse Now, directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Filming started in the Philippines on April 7, 1976. Three years later, in April 1979, Apocalypse Now opened in theaters. You might be asking what a classic movie made over 40-years ago has to do with Cathy Linh Che, one of Americas finest poets? In this interview, Cathy will tell you the film Apocalypse Now has always played a significant role in her life. Why? Because her parents worked as extras on Apocalypse Now after they escaped Vietnam in 1975 when the American War ended. Moving on to growing up in California in the 80s Cathy enjoyed everything the Golden State offered. Moreover, she enjoyed all the insight and wisdom her parents gave her by way of their stories, their style, and their work. As you might have guessed, Cathy started writing poetry early in her life. Perhaps youre wondering, how do I become a poet like Cathy? Well, suppose you follow Cathys example. In that case, you put pen to paper to paper, and start writing down your family stories, your memories, your recent and distant experiences, note the love youve lost, the love youve gained, write sentences that show us where youve been and where youre going. In this terrific conversation, Cathy and I track many poetic threads like the value of memorization, the notion of how to avoid being hobbled by perfectionism, and our delight in appreciating other languages like French. Cathy and I even read a little poetry in French. Ill bet youll enjoy hearing our attempt to read French poetry with our American accents. When you listen to this interview, youll quickly discover Cathy delivers her wisdom, insight, and writing tips with a delightful sense of humor. What better way to spend an hour than listening to a couple of happy poets share their stores? Enjoy.
Tis the season to be chatty , la. la. la. la. la la la la la
Jane and April just talk about stuff. They went from holidays to cartoons. They went from cartoons to sitcoms. They went from sitcoms to social issues. They somehow connected all of it in a way even though they are just talking gibberish.

In this episode, I discuss with my buddy Daniel mostly about what I would call the "private land hustle" and some gear choices we prefer. Finding private land to hunt on is something Daniel does very well. Working with show cattle his whole life has made it easy to find many connections with people who already have land which comes in handy. Hope y'all enjoy the episode, as always share with your friends and subscribe to the channel. We will be doing koozie giveaway for one lucky listener. To be entered in the contest like me on Instagram TX_PUBLICLAND_HNTR, comment and tag a friend on the koozie photo. This episode is a celebration of Kate's debut single, the classic song Wuthering Heights! Seán chats to participants at the Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever in Dublin (see katebushnews.com for the video featuring hundreds of "Cathys"!) and he explores the story of the song and the Emily Brönte novel; how it immediately thrust Kate into international stardom. It's our tribute to the lasting legacy of this truly remarkable recording.
It’s the first LIVE show...and the first attempt at keeping their banter, movie recap and review to JUST 30 minutes. Quite a challenge for these chatty Cathys. Minki and Tracy introduce themselves to their audience at Laugh Index Theatre’s Comedy Festival, which ran the month of June, and then they open with a few jokes and pokes at each other before getting into this horror short which ran through the film fest circuit last year. It made waves by sending chills down the spines of its audiences starting at SXSW and it’s one of the first horror shorts that both hosts agree on for being an all around stellar film. It’s not so clear exactly who or what the Smiling Man is...but the theme of deranged clowns is clearly present which spurs Tracy to share one of the many terrifying clown photos her mother used to have hanging on the walls of her childhood home. WTF? (See pic on Instagram) Do you have Coulrophobia? If so, enjoy the show! Oh, and if you haven't already rated and reviewed them on iTunes, they'd really appreciate it! Keep the podcast ALIVE!!!
