A Serial Killer in the Suburbs of Paris The first victim was spotted by a passerby on August 13, 2025, as officials fished the body out of the Seine in a suburb of Paris near a known gay cruising spot. Divers searching the area found another body, then another, then another. As investigators search for answers and other possible victims, speculation swirls about the motive for the murders.   The Murder of Ryan Godbey: A Family Seeks Justice Ryan Godbey, a beloved member of Canton's LGBTQ+ community, whose a disappearance and murder shocked the Canton, Ohio area in 2025. The arrest and charging of the ex-boyfriends answered some questions, leaving others wide open.  If you or anyone you know is the subject of violence, please use the resources below.  The Brutal Murder of Jacob Zieben-Hood? On August 1, 2025, 34-year-old Jacob Zieben-Hood was found stabbed to death in the Harlem apartment he shared with his husband, Donald Zieben-Hood. Behind their social media image of happiness was a history of domestic violence, protective orders, and escalating threats. From alleged strangulation in February to a knife threat in June, the abuse intensified. On July 31, Jacob called his father during another violent altercation. Hours later, he was dead. Donald was found with self-inflicted wounds and arrested for violating a protective order. Christopher Hunnisett: Vicar's Murderer Freed to Kill Again When the dismembered body of a Reverend Glazebrook was found, his lodger, Christopher Hunnisett, was arrested and put on trial, and found guilty. Acquitted of the vicar's murder, Hunnisett went on a crusade to kill as many "pedos" as he could. Studying investigative techniques, Hunnisett followed a tip to 57-year-old Peter Bick, whom he assumed was an abuser. Pretending to be a date, Hunnisett went to Bick's flat and murdered him. The details of this case are unusual, but in some ways they align with what I've been exploring in the next episode, which is the origins and legacy of the provocation defense. A State of Emergency. Three trans women of color, three cities, all lost to unsolved murderous violence. In Boston, Rita Hester's 1998 murder inspired the Transgender Day of Remembrance. Decades later, her name lives on with a dedicated green space, but justice was never served. Boston Police Department's Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470. In Minneapolis, Ra'Lasia Wright, a beloved mentor, was found shot outside a home in 2024. Her loved ones still seek answers, and her case remains open. A volunteer dive team, Chaos Divers, uncovered nearly 100 submerged vehicles in the Chicago River system while searching for clues in a 1970 cold case involving Edward and Stephania Andrews.Using sonar scans between Diversey Parkway and Cicero Avenue, the divers located piles of vehicles — some stacked 12–19 cars deep — along the North Branch and Sanitary & Ship Canal.

The weedfish is cryptic. That doesn't mean that it speaks in riddles or leaves notes that no one can decipher. Instead, it's easily hidden—it blends into its environment. Divers say it's so well disguised that even if you find one, it's impossible to find it again if you look away for even just a second.There are several species of weedfish. Most of them live around New Zealand or southern Australia. They're mainly found in shallow waters, living in dense beds of kelp—the “seaweed” that's anchored to the bottom.The weedfish is small—no more than about seven inches long. It has a slender body that's crested by a tall, forward-angled fin that looks a bit like a mohawk. It feeds on small fish and crustaceans, usually at depths of no more than a hundred feet.Each species of weedfish blends in with the type of kelp bed it inhabits. The golden crested weedfish, for example, has a canary-yellow body with a streak below its eye like a dark teardrop. Other species have their own colors and patterns to match the background.Like many other fish, the weedfish is facing some tough times. Lobsters, fish, and other types of marine life have been overharvested. That's allowed sea urchins to flourish. And they gorge on kelp, sometimes wiping out entire beds. Without the kelp, there's no place for the weedfish to hide. So there's nothing cryptic about it—the population of weedfish could plunge in the decades ahead.

Can we convert it into a nonprofit so we don't have to make a profit or have an owner?" We hear this one a lot. A business isn't working, and people assume nonprofit status will solve everything. I mean, it's right in the name – you don't have to make a profit, right?! Meghan and I walk through why this logic doesn't hold up, the realities of converting to nonprofit status (hint: you can't), and what it really takes to start and sustain a nonprofit. Lake Superior is not only the largest of the Great Lakes, but the water quality is also some of the clearest. Yet, historically, the Lake was often a dumping ground for all kinds of debris.  "Out of sight, out of mind” was an all-too-common mindset. Don Fassbender, president of Great Lakes Scuba Diving and Lake Preservation, has made it his life's mission to clean up Lake Superior's underwater world. With volunteers, including fellow divers and kayakers, he estimates 14 tons of tires have been hauled up from Marquette MIchigan's Lower Harbor.
