Our newest episode, Episode 69: "Building Intentional Queer Spaces,” features Adam Odsess-Rubin, whose many roles include Founding Artistic Director of National Queer Theater (NQT). In their conversation, Adam offers a glimpse into NQT's programs, including DREAMing Out Loud; Write it Out!; and Staging Pride Queer Youth Theater, a program that offers free acting classes for Queer and Trans youth that culminates in devising original works. At the heart of these programs, Adam notes, is Queer activism through community-engaged arts programming. The heart of this thoughtful conversation shines when Adam states, “I'm looking for community,” he says and continues by reflecting, “I'm that queer artist that needed a home.” Their conversation continues as they discuss: creating supportive spaces for Queer youth to be creative and build community; how, within current systems, administrative practices can't always act in concert with the support systems created for meaningful community engagement; and the friction that comes with the balance of programming and finding moments for rest and grace.

Gov't Mule's twelfth record, Peace Like a River is somewhat of a departure from previous records. Perhaps it was being cooped up during COVID or the fact that the band got their blues out on last years Heavy Load Blues, but this one hits different. It's clear that front man Warren Haynes used the time constructing the songs on this record to hit harder lyrically but also explore sonic territories not yet explored by the Mule. I caught up with Warren to talk about the new record, many of the new songs and much more. First song: Dreaming Out Loud (featuring Ivan Neville and Ruthie Foster) Second song: Just Across the River (featuring Celisse)See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

OneRepublic is an American pop rock band formed in Colorado Springs, Colorado,[5] in 2002. It consists of lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Tedder, lead guitarist and violist Zach Filkins, rhythm guitarist Drew Brown, bassist and cellist Brent Kutzle, drummer Eddie Fisher and keyboardist and violinist Brian Willett. The band achieved its first commercial success on Myspace as an unsigned act.[6] In late 2002, after OneRepublic played shows throughout the Los Angeles area, several record labels approached the band with interest, but the band signed with Velvet Hammer, an imprint of Columbia Records. They made their first album with producer Greg Wells during the summer and fall of 2005 at his studio, Rocket Carousel, in Culver City, California. The album was scheduled for release on June 6, 2006, but the group was dropped by Columbia two months before the album was released. The lead single of that album, "Apologize", was released on April 30, 2006, on Myspace and received some recognition there, becoming number one on the Myspace charts. In 2007, OneRepublic released their debut album, Dreaming Out Loud. Its lead single, "Apologize", was remixed by Timbaland, becoming a huge international success, reaching number one in sixteen countries and subsequently earning them a Grammy Award nomination.[7] The second single, "Stop and Stare", mirrored its predecessor's success. The album was later certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The band's second album, Waking Up (2009), produced the singles "All the Right Moves", "Secrets", "Marchin On", and "Good Life", with the last reaching the top ten of the US Billboard Hot 100.OneRepublic's third album, Native (2013), became the band's first top ten album on the Billboard 200, and highest-charting album to date, charting at number four. The lead single, "If I Lose Myself", charted within the top ten in several countries, while the album's third single, "Counting Stars", became the band's most successful single in recent years, obtaining top-five placements in Australia, Canada, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, the US, and the UK. This marks their highest-charting single in the United Kingdom to date. It also peaked at number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100, matching their highest peak of "Apologize" in 2007.On October 7, 2016, OneRepublic released Oh My My, their fourth studio album, which featured a number of collaborators, including Cassius, Peter Gabriel, and Santigold. Preceded by the singles "Wherever I Go", released on May 13, 2016, and "Kids", released on August 12, 2016, it was recognized as a change in their sound from previous albums by critics and by the band. In 2017, the band released the singles "No Vacancy", "Truth to Power", "Stranger Things" with Kygo and "Rich Love" with Seeb. Their fifth studio album, Human, was released in 2021. The band has sold approximately over 16 million records worldwide.

Today's guest is Christopher Bradshaw, Founder and Executive Director, Dreaming Out Loud,Inc., a Urban Farm based in Washington, DC with a second located scheduled to open in Fall 2022. Founded in 2017, DOL is rebuilding urban, community-based food systems through cooperative social enterprise: increasing access to healthy food, improving community health, supporting entrepreneurs and cooperatives from low-income communities; and creating opportunities for at-risk residents to earn sustainable, family-supporting wages and build wealth. They believe that all communities deserve equal access to fresh, healthy food choices, but that achieving this requires moving beyond the “access” paradigm to a focus on community self-determination and food sovereignty. They are working to create an integrated pipeline to jobs, economic opportunity, and community wealth-building for our most marginalized communities, utilizing the food system as the catalyst. One of Mother Nature's favorite sons, local outdoorsman Seth Flemetis joins me to talk about living in rural Washington, working in natural resources, and being a steward of the land. Seth grew up in the Willapa Valley and now he is working to protect it from invasive species. This conversation goes deep into life in coastal/rural Washington and what it means to thrive out here. We talk about hunting, fishing, invasive species management, and we go deep into Seth's wild hobbies: dirt bikes, building and jumping custom trucks, and butchering meat on weekends. We even meander into family relationships and you get to hear about Seth's history of family turmoil and the lessons that Seth has learned from his brother, who suffered brain-damage following en epileptic seizure. We cover a lot of ground, talk about some deep personal stuff, and have plenty of laughs. This episode is about living in the moment and finding joy in your life, even when disaster strikes. Seth broke both arms, both legs, both collar bones, four ribs, and his neck and back twice each, but still has a great attitude and is excited to keep living life to the fullest. This podcast was a pleasure to make and I hope you enjoy it. This is National Invasive Species Awareness Week. Mr. Bradshaw shares the organizational priorities of Dreaming Out Loud and how his team is striving to reverse the harm of the “400-year pandemic of white supremacy” through holistic approaches to food systems and economic empowerment. Mr. Bradshaw also speaks to potential policy solutions at the national and local level, particularly in light of amendments to the D.C. Comprehensive Plan.

OneRepublic is an American pop rock band formed in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2002 consisting of lead vocalist Ryan Tedder, guitarist Zach Filkins, guitarist Drew Brown, bassist, and cellist Brent Kutzle, and drummer Eddie Fisher. These guys rose to fame on the now-defunct MySpace social media site. Once signed to Velvet Hammer (a boutique label of Columbia Records), they recorded their first album in 2005. Two months prior to the release of their debut album "Dreaming Out Loud," they were dropped by Columbia. Their first single "Apologize" was a big success on the MySpace music charts but didn't get much notoriety outside of the social media network. It wasn't until famed producer Timbaland took notice of the group and signed them to his label Mosley Music Group. The original form of Apologize was released with little fanfare at radio but after Timbaland remixed the track and included it on his "Shock Value" album, the song skyrocketed to #1 internationally — including #1 for 8 weeks on Billboard's Pop 100 chart. OneRepublic continued to have minor success on the pop charts but what really made them shine were the epic remixes of their tracks. Their songs translated well into the burgeoning EDM scene at the time and managed to deliver epic sing-along anthems in the vein of Coldplay and U2 (both groups who also have dancy retrospectives in the Legacy series). Despite having only released 4 studio albums and selling over 10 million albums globally — OneRepublic has never garnered the kind of respect that their contemporaries like Coldplay have. I liken them to The Alarm — the underdogs in the 80's and 90's that were often compared to U2 but never achieved the same global admiration despite an output of well-written anthemic songs. It's difficult for a band to be compared to another when they are in fact their own entity and have their own style. If you trust Party Favorz to deliver only the finest and are a fan of strong, meaningful, EPIC anthems, then trust me when I say that this set will sweep you up in the urgency and emotion portrayed in these songs. Even if you're not familiar with many of the tracks — you will find yourself gleefully singing along. Recently, OneRepublic has been working with a variety of stellar DJ/producers like Kygo, Seeb, and Galantis. This could be the start of an entirely new direction for them commercially. I certainly hope so. This latest edition of the Legacy series will set off several more tributes this week and in the coming month. I hope ya'll like this as much as I did putting it together. It's been on repeat on my phone and in my car all week long. Until the next time...ENJOY! Album: OneRepublic - The Dance Legacy Series Genre: EDM, House Music Year: 2019 Total Time: 01:45:12 1. Comprising lead vocalist Ryan Tedder, guitarists Zach Filkins and Drew Brown, bassist and cellist Brent Kutzle, and drummer Eddie Fisher, the band embarked on an intriguing musical journey. Initially signed to Velvet Hammer, a subsidiary of Columbia Records, they recorded their debut album "Dreaming Out Loud" in 2005. However, they were dropped by Columbia two months before the album's release. Although their first single "Apologize" gained traction on MySpace charts, it failed to gain broader recognition until renowned producer Timbaland stepped in. By remixing "Apologize" and featuring it on his "Shock Value" album, Timbaland propelled the song to international fame, including an eight-week stint atop Billboard's Pop 100 chart. While OneRepublic found modest success on the pop charts, it was their aptitude for inspiring EDM remixes that truly set them apart. Their tracks effortlessly transitioned into epic anthems, akin to those produced by Coldplay and U2, both of whom also feature in our Legacy series. Though they've only released four studio albums and sold over 10 million copies worldwide, OneRepublic hasn't quite received the level of respect enjoyed by some of their contemporaries. Their music often draws comparisons to iconic bands, which can be a double-edged sword. Being their own entity with a distinct style, OneRepublic has more to offer than just being "the next Coldplay" or "U2 Jr." If you're a fan of emotionally charged, anthemic tunes and you trust Party Favorz to curate the best, this OneRepublic tribute is right up your alley. Even if you're unfamiliar with some of the tracks, you'll find yourself irresistibly singing along. Recently, the band has been collaborating with standout DJs and producers like Kygo, Seeb, and Galantis, signaling a potentially exciting new chapter in their musical journey. We're eager to see where this takes them. This installment of the Legacy series is just the beginning of more tributes to come. I've been enjoying this set non-stop, both in my car and on my phone, and I think you'll feel the same way. Until the next time...ENJOY! This lead to the addition of interviews with the performers, discussing the tradition of Friday nights at the cabin, their chosen set lists, and the genesis of the concert. Heavily condensed, the concert footage became the first half of the documentary, the remainder of which focuses on the creation of a book of photographs by the principle players entitled The Dreaming Tree. The difficulties returning citizens face when establishing a legitimate life upon release from prison are well-documented. We also know there are many economically disadvantaged neighborhoods throughout the country lacking supermarkets and healthy food options. Boe Luther + Wallace Kirby are working to change both realities in Clay Terrace, the Northeast DC neighborhood where they grew up. They are the founders of Hustlaz 2 Harvesters, an urban agriculture organization which aims to teach young black people entrepreneurial skills. We get into what inspired the launch the organization, support from local government and business, what it takes for other returning citizens to start businesses, and their collaboration with Dreaming Out Loud, Inc on the building of The Farm at Kelly Miller Middle School in Clay Terrace. #NecessaryListening Follow Boe + Wallace on Facebook: Hustlerz 2 Harvesters - https://www.facebook.com/Hustlaz2Harvesters University of Hard Knocks - https://www.facebook.com/groups/472911106221073/ Learn more about the AyaUplift Workforce Development Training Program at www.dreamingoutloud.org/ourwork/workforce-development All The Fly Kids Links: Website - www.alltheflykids.com Twitter - www.twitter.com/AllTheFlyKids Instagram - www.instagram/alltheflykids Facebook - www.facebook.com/alltheflykids SoundCloud - @the-all-the-fly-kids-show Apple Podcasts - apple.co/2DNSEJ2 Google Play - bit.ly/2DLCL5M Stitcher - bit.ly/2zrT1ps Simplecast - http://alltheflykids.simplecast.fm The All the Fly Kids Show is where the cool, calm and connected talk straight – No chaser.
