Two years ago, the world heard the voice of five-year-old Hind Rajab during her last phone call with the Palestine Red Crescent Society. Trapped in a car surrounded by Israeli tanks, Hind spoke to the dispatcher as she waited for help, alone, and surrounded by the bodies of her uncle and cousins, before her voice was lost… “The Voice of Hind Rajab.” The Oscar-nominated docudrama recreates that devastating call between Hind and the PRCS control room. In this episode of This is Palestine, we speak with filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania about her film “The Voice of Hind Rajab.” Kaouther takes us through the moment she first heard Hind's voice, the decision to turn that devastating call into a film, and the process of making the film and recreating the call. As the film brings Hind's voice to the world, it also serves as a powerful call to demand justice and accountability for Israel's brutal crimes that stole her life. The third role Josh Hawley tells us that men are called to play is that of “warrior”? But what does that mean? Where might we look for an exemplar? One of Josh Hawley's answers is another Joshua, the figure from the Hebrew Bible, tasks with reclaiming the “Promised Land” for the Israelites. But the biblical book of Joshua commands the “utter destruction” of the inhabitants of the land, raising profound concerns about genocide and ethnic cleansing. Is this really the model of masculinity Hawley says we should follow? Listen to this week's episode to hear Dan's discussion of how Hawley responds, and what this tells us about “manhood” as he imagines it. Immortality projects represent an often irrational, and sometimes even unconscious, way to tamp down anxiety about death. There are some shocking examples of people, especially those with lots and lots of money, who try to leave some sort of mark in a futile attempt to keep from facing death. The Killing Fields (1984), directed by Roland Joffe, depicts the Khmer Rouge takeover of Cambodia and the genocide that followed, which resulted in the death of approximately 2-3 million people. The film is based on the experiences of New York Times journalist Sydney Schanberg (Sam Waterson) and Cambodian journalist Dith Pran (Haing S. Ngor). It provides a haunting depiction of mass violence as well as a moving story about these two colleagues and friends. In the wake of the 50th anniversary of the Khmer Rouge takeover of Cambodia, it is worth revisiting a film that is as powerful and relevant today as when it was released.Timestamps:0:00      Introduction2:16       The Khmer Rouge and Year Zero6:04      The U.S. contribution to the Cambodian genocide8:14        The role of journalists in Cambodia and conflict zones17:34      The treatment of journalists under international law18:46     The killing fields and the film's impact24:08    Sydney Schanberg and Dith Pran, and journalistic ethics34:10     The ECCC and transitional justice in Cambodia42:44     Journalists and international criminal proceedings47:50     Haing Ngor and his tragic fate53:26     Civil society endeavors to bring history to life55:21      The fall of Phnom Penh 59:03    The failed attempt to get Dith Pran out1:00:15  The risks facing journalists today Further reading:  Becker, Elizabeth, When the War Was Over: Cambodia and the Khmer Rouge Revolution (1988)Brown, Mark, “Genocide Films, Public Criminology, Collective Memory,” 53 (6) The British Journal of Criminology (2013)   Chandler, David P., The Pol Pot Regime (1991)Kiernan, Ben, Genocide in Cambodia (Revised ed. 2008) Ngor, Haing (with Warner, Roger), Survival in the Killing Fields (1987)Nunn, Nora, "Rose-Colored Genocide: Hollywood, Harmonizing Narratives, and the Cinematic Legacy,” 14(2) Genocide Studies and Prevention: An International Journal 65 (2020)Schanberg, Sydney H., The Death and Life of Dith Pran (1985)Shawcross, William, Sideshow (1979) Law on Film is created and produced by Jonathan Hafetz. One week into the United States and Israel's war on Iran, and the messaging coming from the White House is consistently chaotic and contradictory. From regime change and nuclear threat to preemptive attack - the Trump administration is struggling to juggle its narrative. And while the mainstream media is working overtime to legitimise the Trump-Netanyahu war at home, Americans remain unconvinced. Contributors:  Negar Mortazavi – Host, The Iran Podcast Samira Mohyeddin – Host, On the Line Media Antony Loewenstein – Author, The Palestine Laboratory Borzou Daragahi – Writer, badlands, Substack On our radar Voices within the Iranian diaspora that support the US-Israeli bombing campaign are being given a disproportionate amount of airtime across Western mainstream media. One of the most prominent figures is Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of Iran's former shah, who has presented himself as someone who could “lead the transition” to a new government in Tehran. Meenakshi Ravi looks at how the one-sided coverage lends credibility to the war. Reporting under fire in the West Bank With the eyes of the world focused on Gaza and now Iran, far too little attention has been paid to another territory where Israel exercises near-total control: the occupied West Bank. Israel has intensified its policy of fragmenting the territory, carving it up and expanding control over the land. Journalists in the occupied West Bank have seen their movement severely restricted by hundreds of new checkpoints and barriers. And they face the constant threat of soldiers who are more aggressive and settlers who - protected by the army - are more emboldened and violent than ever. One of those journalists is Ameed Shehade, a correspondent for Al Araby TV, whose unflinching reporting frequently places him directly in harm's way. The country of Rwanda in east Africa has known tremendous suffering and loss from the Genocide of 1994, in which hundreds of thousands were killed. And even though a huge percentage of Rwandans identify as believers, many mix elements of their former pagan beliefs and practices with their new Christian faith. So, the need for the Gospel to heal and correct is desperately needed.Join host Michael Woolworth and his guest, Anton De Vreugd, as Anton recalls wonderful Christians he met on his recent trip to Rwanda. That includes 12-year-old Joyeuse, who loves to write and sing her own songs about the Lord. And 63-year-old Dalie, who lost her own dear husband and son in the Rwanda Genocide but was granted strength by God to forgive those who brought such tragedy to her life.Subscribe today and invite others to listen with you to this powerful podcast. Length: 24:54.

Hawk watched Donald Trump's State of the Union address on February 24, 2026, then watched the Democratic response delivered by Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger, and came away far angrier at the Democrats than at Trump. While Trump's behavior was predictable, the Democratic response was scripted, sanitized, and shockingly silent on the most damning facts about a convicted felon, adjudicated rapist, and fraudster who was indicted 91 times across four jurisdictions, convicted on 34 felony counts for interfering with the 2016 election, incited the January 6th insurrection, and whose company was convicted of 17 fraud-related felonies. Spanberger never said the words convicted felon, rapist, fraudster, fascist, authoritarian, or genocide. She did not mention Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, or the ICE killings of Renee Good, Alex Prey, or Keith Porter. She did not call Trump a liar. She did not mention that he pardoned January 6th insurrectionists, ignored the Constitution, or is dismantling democracy. Meanwhile, Raphael Warnock, when given time on air, immediately named Epstein, called out the administration's wickedness, and spoke to the transfer of wealth from the bottom 75% to the top 1%. Hawk argues Warnock, or the young Somali woman from Minneapolis who spoke plainly about racism and murder, should have delivered the response instead. Congressman Al Green was physically removed from the House floor for holding a sign reading "Black people are not apes," while Hakeem Jeffries, Chuck Schumer, and every other Democrat sat silent. Hawk also points to the DNC's own post-2024 autopsy confirming that Democratic support for Israel's actions in Gaza cost them the election, yet Democrats continue accepting millions from AIPAC and J Street. In 2022, news media across the globe reported that hundreds of mass graves containing the remains of Indigenous children had been discovered at a former residential school site in Canada. This turned out not to be true. Nothing had been discovered at all. Yet the narrative of not only the “mass graves,” but systemic abuse and even “genocide” perpetrated at these residential schools, lives on. Canada's relationship to Indigenous peoples and history is a strong one—tied to funding, legislation, education, land acknowledgements, policy, and of course guilt. But is it accurate? From there, Ken and J.P. tackle why these passages feel uniquely difficult today, how modern culture tends to elevate “soft virtues” (love/mercy) while minimizing “hard virtues” (justice/holiness), and why many people unintentionally rewrite Scripture to match cultural expectations. They focus heavily on context—historical realities, existential threats, and Israel's role in God's redemptive plan—and point listeners to a key resource: Paul Copan's book Is God a Moral Monster? for deeper study.

On today's episode of The Jeff Dornik Show, Jeff is joined LIVE by Jan Jekielek, senior editor at The Epoch Times and author of Killed to Order, to expose what he describes as the Chinese Communist Party's state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting industry targeting Falun Gong practitioners, Uyghurs, Tibetans, and underground Christians. Drawing from survivor testimony including Peiming Cheng and years of investigative reporting, Jekielek lays out evidence that the CCP has industrialized murder for profit through coordinated efforts involving hospitals, prisons, and military institutions, while Western medical establishments and transplant collaborations have enabled the regime's system. The conversation confronts the scale of the atrocities, the regime's 981 Project tied to elite longevity, the infiltration of utilitarian bioethics into Western medicine, and what Congress and the Trump administration can do immediately to stop what Jekielek argues is one of the greatest crimes of the 21st century.SPONSORSupermassive Black Coffee is crafted from organic, gourmet beans fire-roasted in an antique Victorian-era roaster, delivering the rich, smooth, non-acidic taste that reminds you this is how coffee was always meant to be. In this conversation a group of us interviewed Dr. Ali Kadri about his book The Accumulation of Waste: A Political Economy of Systemic Destruction. This conversation was the final discussion in a study group which began last October and involved participants from all over the world. The book provides a theoretical framework which understands waste as a value making process where war-making, the wasting of social classes, and the wasting of social nature become central to capitalist accumulation and to how capital resolves crises in accumulation. The questions in this discussion were those that remained for some of the members upon reading and discussing the work over the last few months. In some cases you will hear members of the group ask their questions directly, in others I ask based on individual questions provided by members or common themes that came up among multiple participants from the group. We get into the imperialist aggression against Iran, the role of patriarchy and racism within Dr. Kadri's analysis, and questions of optimism or hope against the death dealing forces of imperialism. To gain a further understanding of Dr. Ali Kadri's work, check out the first interview we conducted with him back in 2023, and of course check out his books as well as various interviews available online, we will link some of these in the show description. This study group was really rewarding once again, thank you to all of our participants and to Dr. Ali Kadri.
