Moud Goba currently works as a National Manager for Micro Rainbow, the leading organisations in the UK supporting LGBTQI migrants. She leads the organisation programmes at national level: their safe housing work which provides 30,000 bed-nights a year to homeless LGBTQI asylum seekers and their social inclusion and employability schemes. More recently Moud has managed the integration process of LGBTQI people who arrived in the UK from Afghanistan. Moud is one of the founding members of UK Black Pride and she is the current Chair of their Board of Trustees. Rails to Trails the only trail made for runners, bikers, and horse carriages in Amish Country. 3. John Bryan State Park. (Don’t forget to stop at Yellow Springs Brewery and try and spot Dave Chapelle!) 4. Take a bike ride on the Hock Hocking Adena Bike Trail! Hockhocking,” which means “bottleneck” or “twisted,” was the native Shawnee name for the Hocking River; “Adena” reflects the history of the Adena Indians who lived in the Hocking Valley more than 2,000 years ago. Start off in Athens, near OU for a 21-mile ride up to Nelsonville! You can stop at a few breweries along the way, both Jackie’Os and Little Fish are along the path. 5. Take an overnight backpacking trip in Wayne National Forest: Wildcat Hollow is an easy 17-mile trip that can be done in 2 days; they also have a 5-mile loop for day hikes. Further south near Ironton is the Lake Vesuvius 16-mile backpacking trail. 6. How can we talk about Ohio and NOT talk about Hocking Hills!? This is the most visited state park and it has tons of hiking, lake opportunities, and cabins and camping galore in the area. On the 26th of March, Frances Webber, the Vice-chair of the Institute of Race Relations’ Council of Management and a former barrister specialising in immigration, and refugee and human rights law, wrote of the self-isolation required to prevent the spread of COVID-19: “Those without homes or privacy cannot distance or self-isolate; nor can they observe strict hygiene, without access to hot water and soap. For homeless people in night shelters or on the streets, for prisoners and immigration detainees sharing overcrowded cells or rooms, toilets and communal canteens, and for asylum seekers living in destitution there is no escape from the infection.”Today, I’m in conversation with Moud Goba of Micro Rainbow, the charity working in service of LGBTQ asylum seekers and refugees in the UK. From a culture of disbelief at the Home Office to having to survive on £37 per week, Moud takes us through the many hurdles our LGBTQ siblings encounter when they come to England seeking refuge. Moud discusses her own experience as an asylum seeker, how Micro Rainbow helps combat economic disempowerment, homelessness and isolation, and the work we must all do in looking after the most vulnerable in our society. South African Traditional Music Awards has honoured SABC COO by establishing a category after Hlaudi Mostoeneng. And Motsoeneng was awarded with an award for his role in promoting traditional music. The honour was bestowed at the SATMA function in Durban. SATMA founder Dumisani Goba says they decided to honour Motsoeneng for promoting traditional music.
