Season's greetings, Script Apart listeners. As you may have noticed, it's the last week before Christmas – the year's coming to an end, and so, we figured, let's end 2024 strong. So all this week, on this podcast about the first draft secrets of great movies and TV shows – interviews with the writers behind some of the best movies of the last twelve months that we didn't manage to cover upon release. And holy prince of House Atreides, what a way to begin today. Our guest today made one of the most pulse-racing crime thrillers of the century so far, in the form of 2015's Sicario. He's made one of the greatest movies about the power of language of all-time, in 2016's Arrival. And in 2017 and 2021, he took on the impossible twice – crafting first a sequel to one of the greatest blockbusters ever, in the shape of Blade Runner 2049, and then a movie adaptation of a novel previously thought unfilmable: Frank Herbert's Dune. Yes, the great Denis Villneueve is with us today, stopping by for a chat about how his gargantuan Dune: Part Two – starring Timothee Chalamet and Zendeya – helped define 2024. Not just in the way it dominated the box office, earning almost three quarters of a billion dollars (which by the way, is not bad for a hallucinatory epic full of spice-induced visual experimentation). No, it's reflective of the year just passed because notions of fascism, faith, false messiahs… these have all been uncomfortable parts of the backdrop of 2024.In the conversation you're about to hear, Al had thirty minutes to ask Denis his most probing questions about the script. Questions like: was there ever a moment in the making of Dune: Part Two when he contemplated keeping Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen – played by Austin Butler – alive to explore in further films? What does the ending of the film, which veers away from Frank Herbert's source material, mean for the future of the franchise? And if Dune: Part Two is a film that warns about colonialism and facism, does he believe that cinema has the power to actually dismantle those structures, or is just about expressing a kinda howl of resistance?Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. It Can’t Be Stated Enough… Fuck You James Gunn. This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl review episode 3 of Dune: Prophecy. Then the day of sadness has arrived when they have to review the FINAL of Superman & Lois (Supes & Lolo if you’re nasty). Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Dunc: Prophecy: 3:41 Supes & Lolo: 16:18 Dune: Prophecy (HBO Max) Out of 5 Harkonnen by Any Other Name is Still a Hogs Darryl: 3.81/5 Brian: 3.89/5 Summary In Episode 3 of Dune: Prophecy, titled “Sisterhood Above All,” the narrative delves into the complex past of the Harkonnen sisters, Valya and Tula, shedding light on their motivations and the origins of their vendetta against House Atreides. Flashback to Lankiveil: The episode predominantly unfolds through a flashback to the sisters' harsh upbringing on the icy planet of Lankiveil. Valya (portrayed by Jessica Barden) is depicted as ambitious and resolute, determined to restore her family's tarnished honor. Her brother, Griffin, shares this sentiment and ventures to confront Vorian Atreides, only to return dead. This tragedy fuels Valya's desire for retribution against House Atreides. However, her family, concerned about her growing obsession, decides to send her to Wallach IX to join the Sisterhood, hoping to temper her vengeful inclinations. Tula's Deadly Mission: Meanwhile, Tula (played by Emma Canning) takes a different path. Encouraged by Valya to escape their desolate home planet, Tula infiltrates House Atreides by seducing Orry Atreides (Milo Callaghan). Despite developing genuine feelings for him, Tula remains committed to her sister's quest for vengeance. During a sacred hunt, she cunningly poisons the Atreides family members, leading to their near-total annihilation. In a poignant moment, Tula spares a young Atreides boy, allowing the bloodline to persist. This act of both love and ruthlessness highlights the internal conflict between her personal emotions and familial loyalty. Formation of the Bene Gesserit: The episode also explores Valya's early experiences with the Sisterhood. Initially skeptical about taking the Sisterhood vow, Valya's determination and unique abilities, such as her early use of the Voice, capture the attention of Mother Superior Raquella. This sets the stage for Valya's eventual rise within the Bene Gesserit, intertwining her personal vendettas with the Sisterhood's broader ambitions. Overall, “Sisterhood Above All” provides a deeper understanding of the Harkonnen sisters' motivations and the lengths they are willing to go to achieve their goals, setting the foundation for the intricate power dynamics that define the series. Superman and Lois (The CW) Out of 5 Fuck You James Gunns (Series Finale) Darryl: 4.25/5 Brian: 4.99/5 Out of 10 Back From The Dead One Too Many Times (Season 4) Darryl: 9/10 Brian: 9.25/10 Out of 10 Clark Kent Nerd Dad FTWs (Series) Darryl: 9.85/10 Brian: 9.57/10 Summary The series finale of Superman & Lois, titled “It Went By So Fast,” delivers a poignant conclusion to the saga of Clark Kent and Lois Lane. After a climactic battle where Superman defeats Lex Luthor and Doomsday, the episode transitions into a heartfelt montage spanning over 32 years. This sequence showcases significant milestones: the marriage of John Henry Irons and Lana Lang, the growth of Jordan and Jonathan as they start families, and ultimately, the peaceful passing of Clark and Lois. In their final moments, Lois succumbs to a resurgence of cancer, followed by Clark, who, having become fully human in his old age, is deeply affected by her loss. The series concludes with their reunion in an afterlife, underscoring themes of enduring love and hope. A particularly notable scene involves a posthumous encounter between Clark and Lex Luthor. In this moment, Clark forgives a remorseful Lex, who is seen crying—a departure from typical portrayals of their relationship. This act of forgiveness highlights Superman's embodiment of hope and compassion, even towards his greatest adversary. The finale also features a subtle nod to the series Grimm, with David Giuntoli, the real-life husband of Elizabeth Tulloch (Lois Lane), making a cameo appearance. Overall, the episode provides a comprehensive and emotional closure to the series, emphasizing the importance of family, love, and forgiveness. Let's dive into five of the genre's most iconic books, each of which has shaped sci-fi and attracted legions of fans for generations.Dune by Frank HerbertIn Frank Herbert's Dune, we enter the desert planet Arrakis, a place where sand stretches endlessly under twin moons and is governed by the powerful noble House Atreides. The story follows Paul Atreides, heir to a noble family caught in the middle of a galactic power struggle over the planet's most valuable resource—spice, a powerful substance with mind-altering and life-extending properties. This epic saga combines political intrigue, religion, environmental themes, and mysticism, making it one of the richest and most layered narratives in science fiction. Dune is celebrated for its intricate world-building and its profound exploration of themes like power, human survival, and ecology. It questions what leadership should mean and how we impact the environments we inhabit. Its popularity endures because of Herbert's visionary portrayal of a complex universe that still feels relevant, mirroring real-world issues around resources, religion, and human nature.1984 by George Orwell George Orwell's 1984 presents a chilling vision of a totalitarian future where "Big Brother" watches everyone, controlling not only actions but thoughts. Set in a dystopian society, the novel follows Winston Smith, an ordinary man who becomes disillusioned with the oppressive regime and tries to rebel, only to encounter the terrifying strength of the Party's psychological control. This novel introduced terms like “Big Brother,” “doublethink,” and “Newspeak,” which have entered common vocabulary as symbols of government surveillance and propaganda. The lasting appeal of 1984 lies in its eerie relevance. Orwell's portrayal of a society under constant surveillance, where truth is manipulated by those in power, resonates deeply in the modern world. The book's prescient warnings about the dangers of authoritarianism have made it a timeless work that speaks to readers across generations, providing a haunting look at the potential consequences of unchecked power. The War of the Worlds by H.G. WellsH.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds is one of the earliest and most influential novels depicting alien invasion. Set in Victorian England, the story recounts the terrifying arrival of Martians on Earth, who unleash their advanced technology and nearly wipe out humanity. The novel is told from the perspective of an unnamed narrator, chronicling the chaos and horror as humankind realizes its vulnerability to a superior extraterrestrial force. This groundbreaking novel captured the imagination of readers with its thrilling story and examination of human resilience. The War of the Worlds became famous not only for its terrifying depiction of extraterrestrial conflict but also for its commentary on colonialism and human arrogance. It has inspired countless adaptations and remains popular because it plays on universal fears of the unknown while questioning humanity's place in the universe. The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin Ursula K. Le Guin's The Left Hand of Darkness transports readers to the planet Gethen, where its inhabitants are ambisexual, adopting different sexual roles at different times. The story follows Genly Ai, an envoy from Earth who arrives on Gethen to encourage the planet to join a galactic alliance. As he navigates this new society and its customs, he forms a deep, complex bond with a native named Estravan, confronting his own biases and preconceptions about gender and human connection. The Left Hand of Darkness is widely regarded as a masterwork for its revolutionary exploration of gender and identity, challenging traditional ideas about sexuality and relationships. Le Guin's nuanced world-building and empathetic character development have cemented the novel's place in sci-fi history. It's popular not only for its imaginative take on gender but also for its humanistic themes, which resonate with readers in an increasingly diverse world.Neuromancer by William GibsonIn Neuromancer, William Gibson introduces us to Case, a washed-up computer hacker hired for one last job—a job that pulls him into the depths of cyberspace and artificial intelligence. This novel helped establish the cyberpunk genre, blending a gritty, neon-lit future with themes of technology, virtual reality, and corporate control. Set in a world where humans can plug into cyberspace and manipulate data as they might physical objects, Neuromancer explores the intersection of humanity and technology.Neuromancer gained a devoted following for its groundbreaking portrayal of cyberspace, a term Gibson coined, and its exploration of how technology could shape identity, society, and reality itself. Gibson's bleak, fast-paced style resonated with readers who saw his dystopian vision as a natural extension of real-world trends. Its influence extends into modern sci-fi, helping shape the digital and cyberpunk aesthetics seen in countless films, games, and novels today. These five novels, each unique in its vision and impact, share an ability to transport readers to strange and fascinating worlds while holding a mirror up to our own. From exploring the nature of humanity in futuristic societies to asking questions about technology, power, and survival, these books remind us of science fiction's power to illuminate the human experience through the lens of the extraordinary. Aspiring sci-fi authors can look to these timeless works not just as stories, but as inspirations for expanding our understanding of what's possible—and of ourselves.

In Dune, Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) does not want to be the ruler of his people. His father, Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac) of the House Atreides, aims to help him down that path as gently as possible. Like many young characters at the start of their Hero's Journey, Paul does not want the responsibility of power. He doesn't crave its weight. Leto would have preferred to be a pilot himself, but here he is, a monarchal ruler instead. It's a classic motif. Young princes don't know how to be kings. Princesses don't know how to be queens. Girls aren't born knowing how to be wives and boys don't know how to be good husbands. Lord knows none of us “know” how to parents and raise successful, happy children. We just make it up as we go. Of course, we hopefully had role models to learn from and base our understanding on. A young man's best hope for knowing how to be a decent husband is by having a father in his life who loves and honors the mother. If you don't have that, social networks and stories can fill the void to a certain extent. Human beings love stories. And we are discretely taking notes from them throughout our lives. You might come from a family where literally no one has courage of any kind, and so you develop all of your understanding of courage from Peter in C.S. Lewis's The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe…or from Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games.Speaking of C.S. Lewis, he has a remarkable observation about this very problem when it comes to the Christian life, which he outlines in the final chapters of his classic, Mere Christianity. In it, Lewis endorses what you might call roleplaying (cosplaying) the Christian in order to become the Christian. We're all like “little Christs” or “toy soldiers” trying to be as close to the real thing as possible. And the truth is, we'll never feel like we've reached the end destination. I doubt Duke Leto Atredies feels as though he is truly a king deep down. He wears the mask of one. Have you joined as a Subscriber? Don't put it off any longer. We'd love to have you be part of our community. He knows how to move like one and dress like one. The moment a person such as Leto thinks of himself as a monarch with immense power, that's when power begins to corrupt its wielder. Much better to think of one's self as a father, patriot, son or husband who happens to be a king than to look in the mirror and see only royalty. I think we've lost sight of what “role model” is supposed to mean in our language. It's not a blanket term meant to describe anyone in a position of power or influence. It's a person who is modeling how to perform a certain role you may also have to play in this life. The boss. The spouse. The parent. The friend. The teacher. These are common roles. Yet we most often hear ‘role model' deployed when talking about or criticizing the behavior of celebrities. I don't think it's correct to say “Taylor Swift is a good role model” or “Taylor Swift is a bad role model” because it's unclear to me what role she would even be modeling for your typical young girl. “International pop star” is not a role that you are likely to play compared to citizen, neighbor, sibling, or mentor. Maybe the celebrity is modeling either humility or gluttony when it comes to their fame. Perhaps what they model for us is how to handle overwhelming success and public attention. Maybe the celebrity is modeling the role of “the blessed”. I never intend to be dismissive, especially not of our Great American Monarch, Queen Taylor Swift. The beauty of the scene in Dune which we began with today is how Duke Leto responds to Paul's uncertainty and doubt. After Leto's encouragement, Paul asks, “Dad, what if I'm not…..the future of House Atreides.” Leto answers gently, “A great man doesn't seek to lead; he is called to it. But if your answer is no, you'd still be the only thing I ever needed you to be: my son.” I've been thinking on and off about this for weeks now. I confided in a friend at church that I was struggling with how to be the kind of Dad my daughter needs me to be. And he prayed with me, and in his wisdom, knowing I love tying everything back to movies…spoke about this scene in Dune. He did that because this moment between Father and Son is a scene about roles, responsibility, duty, and fear….but it's also about love. The Father loves his son. He loves Paul because he is his son, not because Paul does or does not want to step up and be a ruler. My friend reminded me that I'm covered. That God is with me in this walk, and that I'm already everything He and my child need me to be. Sometimes, just being present and existing in your kid's life is all that is required. Seriously, that may be the truth of it. You don't have to be a fount of wisdom and clever anecdotes, and you don't have to have an answer for every question. You just have to be there. Showing up to play the role is all you ever had to do. After all, your story isn't a scripted stage play with lines to remember. It's improv.Geeky Stoics is a reader-supported publication. It is the first of a two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. Set in the distant future, the film follows Paul Atreides as his family, the noble House Atreides, is thrust into a war for the deadly and inhospitable desert planet Arrakis. The ensemble cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem. The film is the third adaptation of Dune, following David Lynch's 1984 film and John Harrison's 2000 television miniseries. After an unsuccessful attempt by Paramount Pictures to produce a new adaptation, Legendary Entertainment acquired the Dune film and television rights in 2016, with Villeneuve signing on as director in February 2017. Production contracts were secured only for the first film, relying on its success before a sequel would be produced. Principal photography took place from March to July 2019 at locations including Budapest, Jordan, Norway, and Abu Dhabi.Dune was scheduled for a late 2020 release but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film premiered at the 78th Venice International Film Festival on September 3, 2021, before its international release on September 15; it was then released in United States theaters and streaming on HBO Max on October 22. Dune was a box office success, grossing almost $435 million on a $165 million budget. It was well received by critics and audiences with praise for Villeneuve's direction, screenplay, the visual effects, ambition, costume design, Hans Zimmer's musical score, cinematography, and faithfulness to the source material. The film won six awards at the 94th Academy Awards and was nominated in four other categories, including Best Picture, in addition to receiving numerous other accolades. A sequel, Dune: Part Two, was released in March 2024. In February 2024, Villeneuve said the script for the production of a third part was "almost finished".This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 02:28 UTC on Tuesday, 5 March 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Dune (2021 film) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Ruth Neural.

Why Do Hacks Feel the Need to Destroy Everything This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl review the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender Series from Netflix and the Warner Bros. feature film Dune: Part 2. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 AtLAB: 5:44 Dune Part 2: 37:28 Avatar the Last Airbender (Season 1) (Netflix) Out of 10 This Really is the Story of the Ember Island Players Darryl: 4.5/10 Brian: 4/10 Summary In the live-action adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” on Netflix, Aang, a young Airbender who has been frozen in an iceberg for 100 years, awakens to find the world ravaged by the Fire Nation. As the Avatar, the only individual capable of mastering all four elements (Water, Earth, Fire, and Air), Aang embarks on a journey to restore balance to the world. He joins forces with siblings Katara, a water bender, and Sokka, a talented Southern Water Tribe warrior, and together they face challenges and adventures as Aang trains to hone his bending abilities and fulfill his destiny. This remix of the beloved animated series bastardizes the core elements of the original story while presenting it through a live-action lens. Casting Choices: Some viewers find certain actors, particularly the young leads, to be well-cast and embody the characters’ personalities effectively. Negatives: Pacing and Storytelling Choices: Some critics found the pacing of the first season to be slow and felt the show condensed plot points from the original series, potentially hindering character development and impacting the overall story flow. Deviation from the Source Material: While some viewers appreciate the show’s attempt to adapt the story for a live-action format, others felt certain changes to the narrative or character arcs were unnecessary and took away from the essence of the original. Budget The budget for the live-action adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” on Netflix is reported to be $15 million per episode. This means the entire first season, consisting of eight episodes, reportedly cost $120 million to produce. Dune: Part 2 (2024) Out of 10 Why Did Lady Jessica Go Full Super-Villains Darryl: 6.25/10 Brian: 4/10 Summary Picking up after the events of the first film, Paul Atreides seeks refuge with the Fremen, the indigenous people of the harsh desert planet Arrakis. He continues to develop his prophetic visions and abilities, while also forming a bond with Chani, a young Fremen warrior. Meanwhile, the Harkonnens, House Atreides’s bitter rivals, remain in control of Arrakis and continue to exploit its valuable resource, spice. Paul grapples with the weight of his destiny and the potential for a violent future. He must navigate complex alliances and face difficult choices as he ponders the potential consequences of his actions. The film explores themes of revenge, destiny, and the struggle for power. It delves deeper into the intricate world-building of Frank Herbert’s original novel, introducing new characters and factions. Cast and Crew Director: Denis Villeneuve, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jon Spaihts based on Frank Herbert’s novel. Main Cast: – Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides, the young heir who embraces his destiny among the Fremen. – Zendaya reprises her role as Chani, the Fremen warrior who becomes Paul’s love interest. – Rebecca Ferguson is back as Lady Jessica, Paul’s Bene Gesserit mother. – Javier Bardem returns as Stilgar, the leader of the Sietch Tabr Fremen tribe. – Josh Brolin portrays Gurney Halleck, Paul’s loyal warrior mentor. New additions to the cast include: – Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, the cunning nephew of Baron Harkonnen. – Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, the Emperor’s daughter with a complex role to play. – Christopher Walken joins the cast in an undisclosed role. – Léa Seydoux as Lady Fenring. Other notable crew members: – Hans Zimmer returns to compose the score, building upon the unique soundscape established in the first film. – Greig Fraser serves as the cinematographer, capturing the vast landscapes and intricate details of Arrakis. Dune: Part Two – Production and Budget Production: – Development for Dune: Part Two began after Legendary Entertainment acquired the film and television rights for Dune in 2016. – Director Denis Villeneuve signed on in 2017 with the intention of making a two-part adaptation due to the novel’s complexity. – Originally, production contracts were only secured for the first film. The green light for the sequel depended on the first film’s success. – Despite Villeneuve’s concerns about the sequel’s green light due to the first film’s hybrid release (theatrical and HBO Max), it received the go-ahead, allowing them to move forward. – Filming for Dune: Part Two took place primarily in Jordan, Italy, and Hungary, with additional locations utilized as needed. Budget: – The estimated budget for Dune: Part Two is $190 million, which is significantly higher than the first film’s $165 million budget. – This increased cost can be attributed to several factors, including: – Expanding the scope of the story and world-building compared to the first film. – Bringing in new and established actors with higher salaries. – Creating complex visual effects and sets to bring the fictional universe to life. This week on the Everything Actioncast, the Spice must flow as Zach and Chris talk about David Lynch's Dune as we prepare ourselves for Dune: Part Two in theaters. Starring Kyle Maclachlan, in his film debut, as Paul Atreides, the movie attempts to condense Frank Herbert's sci-fi epic into just slightly over two hours instead of the luxury of two, almost three hour movies like Denis Villeneuve has had.The guys talk about how memorable Sting is despite not really doing anything, the disgusting, bumbling Harkonnens, giant space slugs, the super condensed final act, the constant whispering voiceover, battle pugs, and more. You can watch David Lynch's Dune on Max (which is also where you can see Dune: Part One if you need a refresher before Part Two).Next week the guys are talking about the Stephen King adaptation Children of the Corn as it celebrates its 40th anniversary. We want to hear your comments and feedback. God lytting!

Welcome to another exciting episode with your trusted hosts, Isyander and Koda! In this jam-packed installment, we're diving deep into the expansive universe of Dune, guiding you through the intricate tapestry of Frank Herbert's seminal masterpiece and the prequel and sequel novels penned by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. From the genesis of the Machine Crusade in 'The Butlerian Jihad' (2002) to the turning point 'The Battle of Corrin' (2004), we take a look at how humanity won its freedom from thinking machines. We unravel the origins of some of Dune's most powerful institutions, exploring the formation of the Bene Gesserit in 'Sisterhood of Dune' (2011), the rise of the Mentats in 'Mentats of Dune' (2014), and the creation of the Navigators in 'Navigators of Dune' (2016).Then we journey back to the famed noble houses in the House Trilogy: 'House Atreides' (1999), 'House Harkonnen' (2000), and 'House Corrino' (2001). We retrace the steps of Duke Leto Atreides and his rise to power in 'The Duke of Caladan' (2020) and the subsequent books 'The Lady of Caladan' (2021) and 'The Heir of Caladan' (2022).Finally, we arrive at the book that started it all, the legendary 'Dune' (1965), before transitioning into 'Paul of Dune' (2008), where we discuss how Paul Atreides dealt with his newfound power after his triumphant uprising. As if our Dune extravaganza wasn't enough, we're taking a quirky detour to lighten the mood. Get ready for some tongue-in-cheek fun as we challenge ourselves (and you, our dear listeners) with the mind-boggling length of Prince Philip's full title! With so many grand and majestic words, it's a title that would give even the longest of Dune's Bene Gesserit honorifics a run for their money. Then, we move on to yet another figure renowned for his extended list of titles – Idi Amin. The self-proclaimed 'Uncrowned King of Scotland' had a title so long it's dizzying! We promise you'll be equal parts amused and astounded, as we bring some lighthearted laughter to the mix of our fascinating Dune discussion. Don't miss out on this entertaining aside! From the desert sands of Arrakis to the political maneuverings of the Great Houses, join us as we journey through the epic saga that is Dune. Where to begin describing today's guest and his lengthy list of accomplishments? Eric Roth is the Academy Award-winning writer responsible for films like Forrest Gump,  The Insider, Munich, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and 2018's A Star Is Born. At 77-years-old, Eric is as potent a storytelling force as ever: last year, he delivered a sci-fi epic so huge, you'd have had to have buried your head pretty deep in the sand of a distant sand planet named Arrakis to have missed it. Dune, co-written with director Denis Villeneuve and previous Script Apart guest Jon Spaihts, achieved the impossible. It translated one of the densest, most complex and widely beloved science-fiction novels of all-time into a thrilling blockbuster spectacle that somehow remained true to its source material. Timothée Chalamet starred as Paul Atreides, young prince of the noble House Atreides, as an intergalactic battle erupts over control of the deadly, inhospitable desert planet. Author Frank Herbert wrote the book as a warning about society's tendencies to “give over every decision-making capacity” to a charismatic leader. Eric, Jon and Denis did a terrific job threading that insight into a “chosen one” story that challenges and interrogates that narrative template. For many, the film felt like the moment that theatrical cinema felt “back” after the closures of the pandemic. In a captivating conversation recorded earlier this year, Eric told us all about how the film's towering sense of scale was achieved, how the opening he originally envisioned for the movie would have bankrupted the entire production and what keeps him hungry after all these years. Next on the docket for Eric is a collaboration with Martin Scorsese, penning the upcoming Killers of the Flower Moon. There's no slowing down for this veritable titan of the screenwriting universe. This episode contains spoilers for Dune.Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. Dune (titled onscreen as Dune: Part One) is a 2021 American epic science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve from a screenplay by Villeneuve, Jon Spaihts, and Eric Roth.
