Making the Most of Therapy with Anne KeepThis session is for anyone who has ever felt that their life is filled with therapy appointments wondered if there are ways to apply therapy in the real world, away from therapy sessions and the therapist's office struggled to implement a student's therapy needs into the school day noticed that the person receiving therapy finds it demotivating boring and repetitive, or inappropriate for their age and stage in life. In her former role as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist with Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, Anne worked alongside many therapists. She noticed that some people enjoyed much better outcomes from their therapy sessions than others. The best results were achieved by therapists whose approach was role and goal-focused didn't only consist of weekly or fortnightly therapist-led sessions in a clinical setting could be integrated seamlessly into the person's regular day recognised and incorporated the experiences and expertise of the individual and their support network. In this presentation, Anne will use real-life examples to identify the critical elements of successful therapy. You'll see how these elements are universal. They can be applied irrespective of the individual's goals or support needs. This will be a valuable session for families and anyone who works alongside therapists. IntroductionThis session was introduced by Charlie Herbert. Hi, I am Charlie. I am in year 11. I am an (RFS) firefighter. I am the chef of my own small business. I am here to tell you about the lovely Anne Keep. Anne has helped people with disability.  Now she works at Imagine More. Today Anne will tell how therapy fits with getting the good things in life.  Everybody here Is Anne. Meet Anne KeepAnne is the Typical Pathways Initiative Project Coordinator at Imagine More. Before she joined us, Anne was an Orientation & Mobility Specialist with Guide Dogs NSW/ACT. In this role, Anne worked with individuals and their families in their homes, workplaces, schools and local community, often alongside other therapy providers. Anne learned much from her experiences of working with individuals of all ages and with varying support needs. She's become a strong advocate for inclusion in all aspects of life. She has a particular interest in promoting best practices in therapy. Anne is the mum of two amazing and entertaining children and three fur babies. In her spare time, she enjoys various crafts and getting out in nature by running, bushwalking and camping. Joachim Hilderson (@hildersonjoachim), Jack Russo Method! Go on Joachim’s page, you’ll be taken back by the way he trains. There’s mobility training… and then there’s the way Joachim trains mobility. It’s… different. And that’s how Joachim describes his learning style - “I like to learn… but differently.” Joachim isn’t a natural to any of this. A bodybuilder for 10 years, he only started his journey into his current mode of training 4 years ago - at the age of 29. A self proclaimed non flexible person - his search for answers has had him scouring YouTube videos, taking courses, enrolling into online coaching. Joachim is a great example of someone who has acted without bias, trying and learning from many different methods, and taking something away from each. His ability to reflect critically on his experience and process enables him to share his knowledge effectively with his students. So what’s the secret? How does one get mobile? Open shoulders? Middle splits? Why is the method’s logo a shoe brush? Joachim openly shares his thoughts on what may be some general principles to follow. We also cover insights for specific examples as well. And that’s what I loved about this chat - Joachim was just really open, easy to talk to, no attitude or secrets or anything. He’s just a guy who is loving what he is doing and now starting to share what he has learnt. And he knows a lot. Great stuff.Check him out at @hildersonjoachim, and send him a message if you have any questions!

Matthew Layton presents Studio 1 – Vision Australia Radio's weekly look at life in Australia from a low vision and blind point of view. This week's show is about the way that people living with blindness and low vision find their way around. It's something you can actually study - a discipline - Orientation and Mobility. But like many acquired skills, if you don't keep using them or practising, they can go a little rusty. Both of our guests on the last two episodes of Studio 1 - Paula Nettley of Great Ormond Street in London and Emma Bennison, CEO of Blind Citizens Australia, both formidable professionals, super mums and all-round fine examples of the human species - have expressed a little apprehension about returning to the hurly burly of everyday life after extended periods in their domestic comfort zones. (You can listen to both shows as podcasts here - https://varstudio1.podbean.com/) So this week Matthew speaks to Vision Australia Orientation and Mobility Specialist Kirsty Jackson about what she and her colleagues do in general and, specifically, to see if they have any tips about how people can prepare to get back into the swing of things after lockdown. Find Yasmen at: www.nayastudio.com yasmen@sanfranciscocrossfit.com Yasmen’S LESSONS: 1) You're the only one in charge of your actions and thoughts. 2) Thank God for your failures, how we should thank God for ours. NOTABLE QUOTES FROM THE EPISODE: At age eight I was sent away to boarding school in India by my parents, and you were on your own, you don't have any mother and father to run to. If you made a mistake, or somebody, was bullying you or if you were homesick, you had to deal with all that at age eight. And my boarding school was pretty far away. It was three nights and two days on the train away... At that early age, I learned not to rely on anybody else. If you failed, you failed and you had to get up, pull up your bootstraps and just do it again until you got it right. Whether it was academics or sports or relationships with your friends, all that took its toll on me. Stop getting your knickers in a twist when something goes wrong… But what's the big deal? I mean, you're a human being after, all right? So you're not perfect. Nobody's perfect. Nobody expects you to be perfect. Most people want to be successful. Most people want to be loved and appreciated by everybody. But at some point, everybody makes mistakes. Everybody says things, not what they're supposed to say. Everybody can be mean at times. I hear a lot of people don't want to take responsibility for when they make a mistake or they say it's not my fault--someone else did it, but then there's two problems. First of all, they're not taking responsibility. Second of all, they can't correct it next time. The funny thing is if you're not afraid to fail, you're a happier person. There's always somebody who's going to be better than you at something and the good news is you're almost better than somebody else as well. My daughter was fast asleep in bed and I would just sit next to her and all that stress would just go away--there was a sort of a sense of happiness and a sense of wonder and a sense of peace and a sense of love that would come from just sitting and watching her sleep. Sometimes you don't have access to the credit card or there's no money in the bank and if that's where you get your happiness for that instant gratification then you'll be devastated. So find it, find it within yourself, find that depth and happiness within yourself, excluding all outside factors. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/lessonslived/message

A gradual deterioration in our vision s just one of the many changes that can creep up on us as we age. We might find ourselves holding the book further away for the words to focus nicely for us, or we may start saying with more frequency, “Honey, have you seen my glasses?” The World Health Organisation estimates that there are approximately 285 million people worldwide with some level of vision impairment. It’s common for vision problems and eye disease to go largely unnoticed as we all are aware that changes in our vision are a natural part of the ageing process. Because it usually comes on gradually, it’s often not until we start feeling discomfort or it becomes a nuisance that we finally do something about it.
