It’s panel discussion time. For this ep of the shortcast Rusty is joined by Tom Moore from Dick Johnson Racing and Trevor Long - the Tech and Gadget guru you may have seen on the Today Show. Trev is a massive Motorsport fan! There is so much talk around the exponential growth of AI at the moment and how it will change our lives, so what about Motorsport? Rusty moderates the convo to look at ways it is already working in the pitlane and wider industry as well as its potential. We decode Machine Learning, the part it’s playing and consider whether it could lead to job losses and create new ones in our game. How it can hallucinate at times, what causes it but also how it is significantly speeding up processes for teams. Why Supercars is well positioned for it’s growing involvement and whether rule makers might need to restrict or police it’s use for fairness. And perhaps most importantly how it might enhance the fan experience at events and for those watching the TV coverage. For the record we made Rusty write this ep description without the help of AI. Head to Rusty's Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and give us your feedback and let us know who you want to hear from on Rusty's Garage. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It was a weekend to forget in Portland for Conor Daly, but not by his own doing. He joins co-host Chase Holden on Speed Street this week to unpack what could have been a promising weekend but ultimately ended up being disappointing in many regards. Conor explains that after racing with Juncos Hollinger at Portland last year, the team had plenty of data to build upon, and they unloaded with a good amount of speed. An unfortunate tire mishap in qualifying buried them in the pack, but Conor was still optimistic that he could make his way forward during the race. Conor gives listeners an in depth breakdown of his on-track altercation with Christian Rasmussen and explains why he feels there are inconsistencies in how avoidable contact penalties are being issued. The race winner of the weekend Will Power joins the show to chat about how he was able to go back to back at Portland and pick up Penske's first win of the season. Will reflects on being in his contract year and not feeling sure of what the future holds with Penske. He explains that he feels he's at the peak of his driving career and hopes to continue on in a competitive seat. Conor and Will chat about the increasing aggression in IndyCar driving etiquette and how competitive the field is this season. Will describes the 2025 season as being bizarre, but the future looks bright for the IndyCar series thanks to Fox and increasing parity across the field.

Send us a textFrom sleeping peacefully under loudspeakers at dirt tracks as a baby to witnessing Richard Petty's historic 200th victory with President Reagan in attendance, Deb Williams has lived and breathed motorsports her entire life. Now in her fourth decade as a motorsports journalist, Williams takes us on a captivating journey from her humble beginnings in a North Carolina mill town to becoming the first female to cover NASCAR for an international wire service. The passion that drove a 13-year-old girl to declare she would become a motorsports writer after spotting statistical errors in her local newspaper's racing coverage has never diminished. Williams shares colorful anecdotes from an era when racing coverage was built on personal relationships – times when journalists, drivers, and team members would gather at local restaurants after races, forging bonds that transcended professional obligations. Her stories of interviewing legends like Richard Petty (first as a starstruck fan, later as a professional) and dining with Mario Andretti and the Italian ambassador offer a glimpse into racing's rich human tapestry. As president of the National Motorsports Press Association and a contributing editor for AutoWeek.com, Williams continues to shape racing journalism while teaching the next generation at Appalachian State University. Her perspective on how the sport's coverage has evolved – from the days when "everybody knew somebody on every race team" to today's more structured media environment – highlights what's been gained and lost as racing has grown into a national phenomenon.Williams' story isn't just about motorsports; it's about perseverance, breaking barriers, and the power of community. In a world increasingly dominated by digital interactions, her emphasis on human connection and the racing family where "you know who's got your back" resonates more powerfully than ever. Whether you're a die-hard racing fan or simply appreciate stories of passion pursued against all odds, Williams' journey reminds us that behind every headline are the people who make the sport what it is.Join the conversation about how motorsports journalism has evolved by sharing your thoughts on what we've gained – and perhaps lost – in racing's transformation over these past four decades.Support the showFACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/womensmotorsportsnetworkandpodcast INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/womensmotorsportsnetwork/ LINKEDIN: https://www.linkedin.com/in/melindarussell/ TIKTOK: https://www.linkedin.com/in/melindarussell/ X: https://x.com/IWMANation FACEBOOK Personal Page: https://www.facebook.com/melinda.ann.russell

In this episode of “The Logbook” - John Yasenko recounts the discovery and historical significance of a unique 1935 front-wheel-drive speedster created by Benjamin F. Harris III. Initially found in a neglected state in 1987, the vehicle's unusual design and Harris's innovative contributions to automotive history intrigued John and his Brother, leading to an extensive pre-internet research endeavor. Ben Harris, an early industrial designer and motorsport architect, was deeply involved in the development of American road racing and SCCA's national organization. He collaborated with notable figures like Harley Earl and Jim Kimberly, and played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Road America race track. John presents us with rich with historical insights, personal anecdotes, and acknowledges the extensive research and supportive collaborations that uncovered Harris's legacy, culminating in his posthumous induction into the SCCA Walk of Fame in 2020. John Yasenko's purchase of the remains of the 1935 Harris FWD Speedster decades ago led him into conducting 36 years of research into the car and its creator, Benjamin F. Harris. John's objective has been to document how Harris was a key figure in postwar racetrack design and development, and in transforming the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) into a national organization. John is a lifelong car enthusiast, business owner, restorer and historian, automotive show host, and all-around jack of all trades. ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00 Discovery of the Harris Speedster 01:15 Ben Harris: The Man Behind the Machine 02:54 Innovative Design Elements of the Harris Speedster 03:33 Harris's Collaborations and Achievements 05:27 Racing Legacy and Contributions to Motorsport 09:36 Involvement in SCCA and Road America 17:29 Advocacy for Safety in Motorsport 24:29 Legacy and Induction into the Walk of Fame 29:15 Conclusion and Acknowledgements ==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net More Information: https://www.motoringpodcast.net/ Become a VIP at: https://www.patreon.com/gtmotorsports Online Magazine: https://www.gtmotorsports.org/ This episode is part of our HISTORY OF MOTORSPORTS SERIES and is sponsored in part by: The International Motor Racing Research Center (IMRRC), The Society of Automotive Historians (SAH), The Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Argetsinger Family - and was recorded in front of a live studio audience.

With F1 starting a much needed summer break the NZ Herald’s Alex Powell joins us with some thoughts on the sport he loves. Lando Norris is looking stronger as the 2025 title fight seesaws between the McLaren drivers. Drawing parallels with the 2016 championship battle between the then Mercedes drivers as Lando and Oscar Piastri make this a clear two horse race. Why Liam Lawson will be on the grid in 2026 and it’s not just his current form rebound that justifies it! Some perspective on Yuki Tsunoda and the second RedBull seat as Lewis Hamilton appears to be losing the race against time. Plus backing Kimi Antonelli for the long term in a world that wants instant results. Oh and some thoughts on Louis Sharp in F3, Shane van Gisbergen getting the hang of NASCAR ovals and Scott McLaughlin coming back stronger from a wretched year in Indycar. Dale Earnhardt Jr. sits down with Ryan Preece, driver of the RFK Racing 60 Cup car, on this episode of the Download. They talk about Ryan's authentic path to the Cup Series, his 2025 race for the Playoffs, what it's like to flip in a car, and much more. After growing up in a racing family in Connecticut, Ryan ventured into his racing career through quarter midgets and micro sprints. After experiencing early success, he took a chance driving a tour-type modified when he was 14 years old. He immediately took to the car, and his father soon acquired a 1993 Troyer chassis. Since the minimum racing age in Connecticut was 16, Ryan explains he and his father began traveling to Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Florida to get more seat time and experience. This time and effort paid off, and in 2008, Ryan began winning high-profile modified races, including the famed NASCAR Whelen Modified event at Martinsville.Ryan would go on to win the 2013 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Championship, and through longtime car owner Tommy Baldwin, he began getting opportunities in the Xfinity and Cup series. He recalls a time he had to raise a large amount of money to have the opportunity to drive some select races for Joe Gibbs in Xfinity, which led to him winning at Iowa in 2017, which he considers to be a life-changing moment. In 2019, Kevin Harvick would help Ryan find a full-time Cup opportunity with JTG Daugherty Racing, replacing AJ Allmendinger. When the ride would shut down at the end of the 2021 season, Ryan again bet on himself and returned to the Trucks and Xfinity ranks, winning races to generate more opportunities in the upper ranks. This came at Stewart-Haas Racing in 2023, driving the 41 Cup ride. When SHR ceased operation after the 2024 season, Ryan received a call from Brad Keselowski about running a third car at RFK Racing, where he has consistently impressed throughout the 2025 season. And for more content check out our YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/@DirtyMoMediaDirty Mo Media is launching a new e-commerce merch line!
