This episode is a very frank and unfiltered conversation with Aren Bazerkanian, founder of Havid Nagan – the upstart independent brand that took the watch world by storm in 2022 with its debut watch the HN00. We recorded this conversation in January of this year at a time when Aren was navigating challenges with Swiss watch production. In particular, one of his key suppliers experienced a leadership change and increased costs, rendering the economics of his second project the HN01 Lucine unsustainable. As a result, Aren did what many start up businesses have done time and time again – pivot. In particular, he refunded all customers who placed pre-order deposits, while he identified new suppliers and productions partners, and not to mention developed an all new watch. Aren documents this in greater detail and transparency at his site havidnagan.com. As Aren navigated this uncertainty, Asher and I debated whether to air this episode at all. However, now that Aren has set Havid Ngan on fresh footing, we all agree – including Aren – this conversation sheds greater lights on and insight into the realities his business had to navigate and the principles he used to do so. MONEY FM 89.3 - Prime Time with Howie Lim, Bernard Lim & Finance Presenter JP Ong
When it comes to watch manufacturers, one would realise that most of the big players are owned by luxury groups with multiple brands under their belts. But instead of that, our guest for today prides itself as the last family-owned independent Genevan Watch Manufacturer. It is also part of the so-called “The Holy Trinity” or “The Big Three” in horology - a term that describes three of the biggest and oldest watchmakers in the world. Founded in 1839, our guest Patek Philippe has been perpetuating the tradition of Genevan watchmaking without interruption for close to two centuries. As a family-owned independent watch manufacturer, the firm enjoys total creative freedom to entirely design, produce and assemble what experts agree to be the finest timepieces in the world, amassing a repertoire of over 80 patents so far. Being an independent and private company also means Patek Philippe was able to make certain decisions that were unimaginable at other companies, such as retiring one of its most popular models, the Ref. 5711 Nautilus watch. But what was the rationale behind the move? And with Patek Philippe launching a total of 11 watches at the highly anticipated Watches and Wonders this year, what is next for the firm as it continues to reinvent the wheel? On the demand side of things, a Robb Report article citing Watch Pro reported in May that Swiss watch exports grew 4.5 per cent globally, bolstered by a 11.6 per cent rise in the US. The showing was a reversal from the decline seen in March, where shipments to China and Hong Kong fell. But what does that mean to Patek Philippe operationally and how long is the waitlist for a first-hand timepiece? On Under the Radar, The Evening Runway's finance presenter Chua Tian Tian posed these questions to Deepa Chatrath, General Manager, Patek Philippe Southeast Asia.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Hamilton Watch Company was founded in Lancaster, PA, USA in 1892 and started making watches for local railways and operators. As we moved closer to World War II, Hamilton got involved with the US Military and began providing watches to troops, so much so that they even ceased production of civilian models. They continued to innovate, releasing the world's first electronic watch, the Ventura in 1957. Today, we associate Hamilton watches with a few things: Movies in which they are placed, sometimes becoming a plot point, and field watches, which they execute nearly to perfection. From Hawaii Blue to Men In Black, and most recently Interstellar and Oppenheimer, Hamilton watches continue playing a crucial role in outfitting characters across many genres. In this episode we cover all this and more, including a vintage mechanical Hamilton 1936, the predecessor to the Boulton/Indiana Jones watch. We also cover several movies like Men In Black, Interstellar, and The Martian, where Hamilton watches are featured. New watch alert! After dreaming of the SBGA211 for many months, the 9R65 caliber Spring Drive and that pristine white-textured dial meant to recreate freshly fallen yet wind-swept snow, Brett finally pulled the trigger on a new watch. For better or worse, it wasn't the watch he'd hoped for, and decided to instead go with the SBGJ259 "Bamboo." The Bamboo, powered by the 9S86 Hi-Beat movement (36,000 VPH) and dial inspired by a bamboo garden path, is a bold statement watch with its eye-catching green textured dial. Although you won't hear it tick, your body has its own internal clock regulating your circadian rhythm. Your circadian rhythm is your sleep-wake pattern over the course of a 24-hour day. Most living things have it, including animals, plants, and even some microbes. Circadian rhythms affect your sleep patterns as well as other ways your body works, like your body temperature, eating habits, and hormones. When your internal clock gets out of sync, it might cause problems with your health. They've been linked to different disorders including diabetes, obesity, and depression. Maintaining healthy habits can help you respond better to this natural rhythm of your body. In this final episode of BioSounds season 3, our correspondent Rouaa Ben Chaabene, interviews Prof. Emi Nagoshi from the faculty of Sciences where she talks about her work on circadian rhythms and how it can be linked to Parkinson's disease.

When Dani Reiss took over his grandfather's apparel business more than two decades ago, he gambled on Canada. He resolved to continue making high-end outerwear in Canada, at a time when others in the industry were moving production abroad. The bet paid off. Today Canada Goose is recognized around the world for its luxury clothing. Reiss credits part of that success to the decision to stick with a “Made in Canada” label. For international customers, he says, “a Canada Goose jacket made in Canada was like a Swiss Watch made in Switzerland. It's a quintessential Canadian product when the place of manufacturing cannot be separated from the product itself.”In conversation with Goldy Hyder on the Speaking of Business podcast, Reiss urges other Canadian businesses to “leverage the power of the Canadian brand.” He also reflects on being named to AMA Toronto's Canada's Marketing Hall of Legends, which honours business excellence within the marketing profession.

Ken: In your book, you quoted a recent statistic that indicated in 2030, we will see approximately 50% of our population stricken with a chronic illness. WOW, so your bestselling book is about what we can do right? Tell me about that and the title? DR. Pat First, that statistic came out before the pandemic. The pandemic just signified wow we have a lot of sick people and we don't even know it. That stat is real it could even be pushed up a couple of years because of this last year and a half. Think about it a lot of people didn't know they were sick or how they felt and the such. But you didn't ask me about that exactly you asked me about my book. My book is called “Why are you Sick Fat and Tired.” I had a businesswoman in one of my groups, and she told me I'm not sick I'm not fat, and I'm not tired. I said oh contraire. I said because… What the book does, is this book is an advocating tool, a guidebook, and a tool to use to find out what's going on in your health snapshot now. So, it asks about 11 different organ systems, and your body, now these 11 organ systems fit together like a Swiss watch. So, if the Swiss Watch piece is broken, something else is going to break someplace else. If it's starting to slow down because it is starting to wear out, something else is going to happen someplace else. They all interrelate with each other. There is not a process that doesn't require time. Now when you're looking at how things are connected just keep thinking about the spiderweb. Each is just one piece of a much larger puzzle. Think about it shooting out and connecting to everything so that it all pieces together. We can use the book to find the weakest and strongest links. The weakest link will be your highest scores and the strengths will be your lowest because you have to have something working for you. Because eventually what happens in that scenario is that the organ system keeps on getting taxed so that it gets taxed to a point where it starts affecting your immune system. Listen to the podcast to hear more about What's going on with mindset and mental health these days? What's the link between diet, lifestyle, and environment? What are 5 lifestyle solutions anyone can do to improve their health immediately? If there were only three ideas that you leave for this world and your posterity, what 3 ideas would you leave for them that could lead them to have an amazing life? What is the best way for folks to connect with you, Dr. Pat? drpat@healthteamnetwork.com https://healthteamnetwork.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/drpatboulogne/ Please subscribe to this podcast and leave a rating and review, to help others find this podcast. In this episode we are looking at the Swiss Watch Exports. And the numbers show that people are buying watches again - in big numbers.
On October 25, 1960, American company Bulova introduced the most advanced watch ever made. The Accutron used a tuning fork oscillating 60 times faster than a normal watch thanks to electronic components and a battery. This space-age watch shifted the balance of watchmaking power to America, but it was the brainchild of a Swiss engineer who soon returned home. Max Hetzel's work disrupted the entire industry and kicked off the race to build a quartz watch. Join Serge Maillard, Publisher & CEO of Europa Star, and Stephen Foskett, Publisher of Grail Watch, as we tell the stories of the events that changed the horology industry. Vinnie also takes some time to tell us about a recent solo adventure that he went on and how it helped him bond more with his Rolex Explorer. We get into bran heritage and what it means to the watch world. Does brand heritage bring anything to the art of watchmaking or is it just a way for the brands to save money and milk their past achievements, even if it is now a totally different brand. We talk about nostalgia and how it can be such a powerful thing when it comes to influencing people into making a big ticket purchase. Apple's smartwatch line outsold all Swiss watch brands in 2019, a report by market and consumer research company Strategy Analytics says. According to the report, Apple sold nearly 31 million units of its Apple Watch worldwide last year. This resulted in a 36% growth in the product's global shipment. The number of Swiss watches shipped in the same year, on the other hand, fell by 13% as Swiss watchmakers sold only about 21 million timepieces. Strategy Analytics said the Apple Watch's popularity in some major markets is due to its sleek design and foolproof technology, which appeal to younger consumers. After unveiling its first smartwatch six years ago, Apple has become a major threat to the watch industry in Switzerland. In 2017, the Apple Watch also dominated global watch sales, surpassing the combined sales of all Swiss watch manufacturers. As Apple continues to launch superior products, one Strategy Analytics senior analyst explained that Swiss watchmakers have very little time to keep up with the smartwatch industry. Amidst the tight competition in the smartwatch scene, some traditional Swiss watch manufacturers have recently produced their own smartwatches. One of these is Swiss luxury watchmaker Tag Heuer, which released a number of models, including one that sells for $180,000. According to Forbes, the goal of Swiss watch brands in creating their own smartwatch lines is not just to compete with the Apple Watch. Swiss watchmakers would like to stay in the game and remain relevant in the digital age.

During CES, wearable technology is all the rage. Across the show, you'll find the standard fare, like smartwatches, fitness bands, sleep trackers and the like. However, every once in a while you encounter something truly unique - something that doesn't quite fit into another category. That is exactly what we found with the Time-C from IEVA.The Time-C is, by its very nature, fashion-forward. At first glance, it is a beautiful watch that could easily go with casual and formal attire. It's a Swiss-made watch, meaning it is going to be a quality timepiece. However, this watch is far more than meets the eye. It is smart, but not in the way you might initially predict. It doesn't show notifications or allow you to interact with the apps on your phone. Instead, Time-C is designed to improve your health and lifestyle, as well as your fashion sense. The watch features a myriad of sensors, ranging from temperature and humidity to pollution and noise. These sensors are specifically chosen and designed to detect environmental stressors around you. It also measures your physical activity, heart rate, etc., which can also be environmental stressors. Once the readings are collected, the platform translates all of that data into recommendations to improve your beauty, wellness, lifestyle, and nutrition.Within the app, you will see a beauty regiment, programs for nutrition, etc. These rituals will adjust over time as the device gathers more information about your daily life - your activity, environment, and other factors. All of the recommendations that are made can be fulfilled entirely within the platform, making it a one-stop process. The Time-C follows the Twin-C, which they refer to as a connected jewel. This product is similar in intention, without the watch face. It is designed to be worn in a variety of ways, such as a broach, bracelet, attached to a scarf, etc. From a fashion perspective, it is more versatile, while the Time-C is more day-to-day practical for many. The Twin-C is available now and ranges from $150 to $270. The Time-C is expected to hit the market around the end of Quarter 2 (around June 2020) and will retail somewhere in the range of $1000. You are not a Swiss watch and your coach is not a watchmaker. In this episode, Matt redefines specificity to unshackle you from the pretense of precision. In fact, a focus on precision in every session is a slippery slope that leads to obsession, paralysis of analysis, erosion of confidence, and an overreliance on metrics. You can, however, gain specificity without being precise and if it is done right, it means you don’t have to obsess over every detail to get wonderful and lasting results in sport and life. Stop searching for daily performance treasures. Don’t become so analytical in every session, look for trends of great behavior, and realize that it’s normal to have a bunch of ordinary and maybe even a few catastrophic days, but hopefully a sprinkle of some pretty darn good ones. Give yourself permission to realize that precision doesn’t make performance. It’s a healthy dose of consistency, specific training progressed over time…and a whole lot of patience. This week we sit down with Sheldon, owner of the Rolex informational site "Minus4Plus6.com." We discuss how he came across the "first Swiss watch in space" and how a concerted effort from him and other well known watch enthusiasts spread the word about this special piece even before the manufacturer ever marketed the story.
Kaz and Mike sit down and really dig into the past and potential future of the Swiss Watch Industry. Specifically, the group discusses archaic marketing practices, product over saturation, layoffs, the Quartz Crisis, and a lot more. Other topics include Mike's experience with the Orion Field Standard, Kaz's puking/dying bird, "peacocking watches," and more. Oh, yea - and roaches wearing Rolexes... (#roacheswearingrolexes).
