Welcome to our end of year podcast where we see out 2023 with a deep dive into one of the more controversial eras of the series chronology. RE5 went out of its way to end several long-running, major plot points and left something of a blank slate for the storyline moving forward after killing off its main villain. Since then we've had a ton of media, not just new games, but also manga books and CGI movies, to progress the storyline from 2009-2015 in what we are calling the 'bioterrorism era'. We look at the various incidents and plot aspects that occurred during this period, analyzing what works and what doesn't. Just what is the difference between Blue Umbrella and Neo-Umbrella, what are the dangers and advantages of retroactive storytelling, and does Resident Evil now have a villain problem? Jamieson K. Price is an American actor, best known for his deep and booming voice in numerous anime and video games. He is known as the voice of the Count of Monte Cristo in Gankutsuou, Sojiro Sakura in Persona 5, Ovan in .hack//G.U., Barry Burton in RE5, Galbalan, and Milton Grimm from Ever After High. Price also had a part in the 2000 movie The Patriot. Price is credited as the man with over 500+ IMDB credits and is regarded as a legend in the voice acting scene. It may be hard to believe, but Resident Evil Revelations has just celebrated its 10th birthday! Originally conceived as a portable experience for the Nintendo 3DS released in January 2012, this curiously often overlooked title has received several enhancements over the years and according to Capcom remains very much part of the main series. But as we discuss, Rev 1 is a strange beast. Despite containing many of the core ingredients that appeal to fans, Chris and Jill together, a return to horror after the action behemoth of RE5, and a larger focus on hub, key-questing gameplay, something about it doesn't feel quite right. Rombie isn't much of a fan and Batman aside, the other boys are firmly on the Rev2 train. But regardless there are many positives to take from this game. So sit back and relive the times of Grinder, Jackass, Jessica's sweet-ass, and Conan O'Brien's luxury cruise on the Queen Zenobia. 

Before this episode, Jake had never played Resident Evil 5! RE 5 had some big shoes to fill after the masterpiece of RE 4, a job we certainly do not envy. The game ended up being an action-heavy, brightly lit, non-scary, co-op adventure. Cousin des morts-vivtants le zombie est un genre à part entière. Il est aussi dans Resident Evil l'incarnation de nos angoisses. La formule : manoir, agents spéciaux, zombies, armes limités et ambiance à la chandelle font du jeu, le rendez-vous horrifique des 30 années avenir.  I need ur help Resident Evil installe un genre, celui du survival, entre scènes d’action où il faut buter et fuir du zombie, la franchise a le goût de l’énigme. Certes loin des ambiances puzzle games de Zelda, l’oeuvre de Capcom tente de diversifier le contenu de cette aventure déjà riche en émotions. Epoques différentes, jeux différents  Bien que le premier RE est reconnu pour l’ambiance sombre d’un manoir, les autres opus de la SAGA développent et s’orientent de plus en plus vers l’action, délaissant le genre survival pour des séquences de shoots à la sauce Call of Duty. C’est d’abord avec RE 4 sorti sur ps2 en 2005 que la série prend un shot d’action. Titre qui permet à Capcom d’assurer la transition entre deux genres tout en gardant un esprit made in Resident Evil. RE5 et RE6 ne se cachent plus d’être des jeux d’actions, place aux mitraillettes, tanks et scènes d’hélicoptère en guerre. Il est bien loin le temps du manoir Spencer, seuls quelques éléments perdures à l’instar du succès des jeux qui se vendent encore comme des petits pains.

Patrick and Mark once again enter a world of survival horror as they catch up with the two Resident Evil games they somehow missed out on: Resident Evil Revelations 1 and 2. This is a series your hosts love, and a gameplay style similar to the action-packed RE4 and RE5. So do they love it?

Resident Evil 5 came with huge expectations but was seen as a great disappointment by many, but here STARS_Tyrant and TheBatman lead the RE5 defence force, praising the gameplay and the story. George Trevor talks up Lost in Nightmares but finds little else to enjoy and Neptune has never been happy about the linear aspects of the game and how Chris and Sheva quickly move through each area with no opportunities to backtrack and explore.  Every aspect of the game is covered as well as a small section covering the unused beta concepts of the game. In the news we also review the second public demo of Resident Evil 6 before the game's final release.

A new trailer for Resident Evil 6 was revealed today, showing off some more information about the story. I can't wait for this game to come out. I loved RE5, and I hope they can find a good balance of the co-op gameplay between 5 and Revelations. RE5 was awesome if you played with a friend, and not so much if you played alone. The partner AI in that game was not the best, they would always pick up stupid stuff they didn't need, and they were just a huge liability on harder difficulties. Then on the other side of the coin was RE:Revelations. The partner in this game was completely useless gameplay-wise, and only there for certain plot elements. They couldn't kill any enemies, they couldn't heal you, and were basically just used to hold aggro for 1 or 2 enemies, maybe. However, judging by the A.I. from the latest "RE" game, Operation Raccoon City, I just don't know. There might not even be any co-op for all we know, but I bet there will be. Rock Band 2 and Dance Central are both getting Tears for Fears, Marilyn Manson, the B-52s, and Def Leppard. Metalocalypse: Dethgame is dead. Ironically. Call of Duty: Black Ops will come to the DS. Ironically. Resident Evil 5 Gold edition will be Move-upgradable, but regular old vanilla RE5 won't. Ironi... oh, wait, that joke's dead. Netflix for the PS3 adds search feature, making it far superior to the Xbox 360. Yay! Bioware announces Mass Effect 2 DLC "Lair of the Shadowbroker." HAWX 2 coming September 7, Kane and Lynch 2 demo now available for PS3 (and has since become available for the 360 as well), LittleBigPlanet 2 coming November 16. Curt Shilling's 38 Studios moves to Rhode Island and unveils Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning, due fall 2011. Enjoy.

Well yippee-kay-yay, this week on the EXP Podcast we focus on big burly men with chainsaw-guns. Developed by Epic Games, the Gears of War franchise has found immense success amongst a variety of gamers. With a collection of books , a movie in the works, and an inevitable third game, Gears of War just seems to stick in our minds for some reason. Earlier this week L.B. Jeffries of Popmatters drew connections between GoW2 and the Iliad , the talented editors/contributors of Critical Distance chatted about GoW2 and ludonarrative dissonnance (which Scott and I discuss briefly on this podcast), and I wrote my own Sensationalist piece on the game Monday.Scott and I finished both games in the series on cooperative mode, much like Resident Evil 5. Though not as controversial as RE5, we still plumb the subterranean depths of Gears of War and find some "sweet" analysis of the coop experience, over-the-top storytelling, and how to make giant worms even more epic. This week the show may seem long, but don't be fooled. Only the fist hour and a half is video game related, the rest is about the cancellation of official UDE support for the VS System card game. For those of you interested in only the first half though, we have a great show for you. We try out the RE5 demo and discover that Steven needs to practice his teamwork skills. He, also goes through the roof with anger for God of War 2 and cools off with some World at War multiplayer. Jason hops in his Delorian to go back to the future in Chrono Trigger and gets a beat down from a bag of bones in Order of Ecclesia. Plus, a metric ton of new game announcements in the news.

Our usual cast of house cats are joined by 's Ryan O'Donnell and Jay Frechette, along with freelancer Kat Bailey. We discuss the Dawn of War II Beta, RE5, and Afro Samurai, before getting into an epic debate about the nature of shooters (featuring Half-Life and Killzone 2).
