About Hilary Swan: Hilary Swan is the Founder and Principal Consultant at Rebel Scout Consulting, which supports founders and CEOs without a sales leader during growth or transition as a fractional VP of sales/sales leader. Hilary has spent 14 years working for global sales organizations and has carried the bag, launched new products, led sales teams, and knows what good looks like and how to get you there. The wildly competitive culture of sales is where Hilary thrived, and this proved to be accurate as she hustled her way through the ranks and reached sales leadership, where she most recently led a $18M business over three divisions in one of the country's most competitive industries and markets. Hilary has had a burning desire to feed her entrepreneurial spirit and coveted passion for developing people to win every step of the way. Still, she didn't quite know how to share her wealth of knowledge and expertise until now. Check out the latest episode of our Conversational Selling podcast to learn more about Hilary. In this episode, Nancy and Hilary discuss the following:Hilary's background and motivation for starting Rebel Scout ConsultingThe concept of fractional sales leadership and how it supports startups and small businessesSupporting startups and small businesses in the absence of sales teamsThe importance of embracing sales as a positive forceThe positive nature of salesKey Takeaways:I do not engage with any company for under three months, ideally six months. In the majority of startups and small businesses, all the sales are typically made by the founder or, in small business cases, the president or CEO of the company.I had always wanted to do something on my own. It's interesting how you can be fueled by the sales piece and the environment in which you sell."I was in inside and outside sales, selling many different things. I was in sales leadership. I'd always wanted to do something on my own. I'm not surrounded by a ton of entrepreneurs or people who own their own businesses per se, but I was always so intrigued by it. So, I had been approached about a head of sales role with a startup, which was not right for me then. But it really got me researching what this all looks like in the startup world and where these people get the money. Do they make money? How many of these ideas are good? The failure rates are high. So, I had a, you know, cautionary risk. I researched, but I felt like I hit a crossroads. So, the company that I was working for at the time had been acquired, and I should have been very appreciative because I was going to be moving into a new leadership role, which was a bit of a promotion on paper. I was so not inspired by it. I just, the thought of having to continue to do this or do something in this role was just not, you know, lighting the fire. And so, I felt like this was the time. This is a clean cut to jump two feet in. For those who dabble in starting something while they have a full-time role, it doesn't work for me personally. And so, I felt it was very clear that you have this job opportunity in front of you, and you should be so excited. It's more money, more responsibility, a bigger role, and I couldn't be less excited. I felt like that was my sign just to rip the bandaid off and do it. And so, I did it. And thankfully, it is working out very well. But yeah, it takes a lot to do that step." – HILARY"The fractional model is, I don't want to say it's not new, but it's on the newer side and exactly what it sounds like. It's a fraction, so you're getting a fraction of the time of an executive or a leadership. So, what it really should feel like is for startups and small businesses, they're getting what they need. So, this is across many different specialties. You'll see operations HR. You'll see the Chief of Staff. And so, what it is that you're getting that team member for, to be honest, is also a fraction of the cost likely. And you need their expertise and their membership on your executive team. But having most of these roles filled costs a lot of money. So, what is not better than to tap somebody at a fractional? Engagement where you don't have to bring them on as a W-2 or with the health benefits or 401k. It really is, and I know consulting is in the name of my business, but it's not the consultant in the traditional sense of projects; they do all the stuff and then leave. You really, really should feel like you have a team member on your team with this fractional leader." – HILARY"We're all in sales, and that is okay. That's a great thing. So, the faster you can embrace that and feel comfortable with how to interact with people so that you can get across to them how you can help and serve them with whatever you're selling or doing, the better it will be. So lean into it. It's a positive thing." – HILARYConnect with Hilary Swan:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/hilarynswan/Rebel Scout Consulting: https://www.rebelscout.co/Try Our Proven, 3-Step System, Guaranteeing Accountability and Transparency that Drives RESULTS by clicking on this link: https://oneofakindsales.com/call-center-in-a-box/ Connect with Nancy Calabrese:Twitter:https://twitter.com/oneofakindsalesFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/One-Of-A-Kind-Sales-304978633264832/Website:https://oneofakindsales.comPhone: 908-879-2911LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ncalabrese/Email: leads@oneofakindsales.com

In a media environment where we are beset on all sides by messages, it can be hard to connect with your audiences. More challenging still is educating and impacting. We are all familiar with ads on television for different medications, from restless leg syndrome to depression to atrial fibrillation to skin problems to Wilfred Brimley “diabetus” advertisements, it is easy to feel uneasy about our health. It raises the question of whether the purpose of these ads is to educate or to convince that we indeed need to “speak to our doctor” about a certain drug despite the quickly-spoken side effects. Even when focused on “human-centered” design, it is easy to lose the human in the drive for profit. Not that there is anything wrong with making a profit, but when that becomes the sole driver, then all other considerations can take a backseat to that goal. To create a successful marketing and branding experience, it is not just about convincing, but also connecting. And as our media and social environments continue to change, we have to be innovative in how we create content that connects with people in a way that makes them feel cared for. Today on Experience by Design, we are pleased to welcome Wanda Toro Turini of Ketchwords and Rock-It Fuel. Wanda has built a career around innovating how people connect with their target audiences. Her interest in helping people led her to get a Doctorate in Pharmacology. And her passion for innovation and entrepreneurship led her to work with Novartis as a Sales Specialist and innovating in eBusiness. This path ultimately led her to exploring how to optimize how we connect with people through leveraging the power of new technologies to create more engaging content. We explore the concepts of awareness versus education in marketing and content creation. She tells us about her move from the pharmacy to sales to entrepreneurship, and what she learned from each along the way. We discuss why we need an outside perspective to help us see what we can do for others, and how to create systems to deliver on that promise. Finally, we talk about shamanic journeys and strategic meditation, and what a long strange trip it's been. This was the first in our series of ExD Live, hosted by the ever affable Michael Kirkpatrick on location at Centric Park in beautiful downtown Newburyport, Massachusetts. Centric Park provides experience design and rapid innovation for great companies committed to customer centricity.

“Who can I invite into my life that has the kind of influence I'm looking for to help me make quality decisions? That individual mentality helped me shape the narrative of Peak Perspective,” explains Jimmy Zugschwert (Jimmy Z), Speaker, Author, and Sales Specialist. Jimmy has always worked in the sales field but never suspected that he would be a published author. Initially wanting to write a family history book to pass on to his sons, Jimmy discovered the importance of stories, leading him to write his first book, Peak Perspective. Throughout his life, Jimmy has been fortunate to have a group of mentors serve as his “personal board of directors.” Although he's never held a board meeting and many of his advisors have never met, Jimmy understood the importance of having a trusted group of people by your side. Ultimately, the secret to success is utilizing the advice around you and uncovering the steps to fulfill your dreams. Tune into this week's episode of Move Forward Anyway for an uplifting conversation on the value of stories. Learn more about Jimmy's book journey, the purpose of mentorship, and why no one can tell your story better than you. Quotes • “Who can I invite into my life that has the kind of influence I'm looking for, to help me make quality decisions? That individual mentality helped me shape the narrative from Peak Perspective.” (19:07-19:23 | Jimmy) • “A personal board of directors is a term used to describe your personal team. It's not about a governing body of the person. A mentor, by definition, is a trusted adviser or a guide.” (21:59-22:14 | Jimmy) • “The greatest personal growth you'll have when facing a fear or a challenge is to be vulnerable with someone who cares about you and wants the best for you.” (28:06-28:18 | Jimmy) • “In your life, no one has a clear perspective on what you've experienced, what you've gone through, and what you've learned up to this point in your life. No one can tell your story better than you.” (35:56-36:11 | Jimmy) • “The things you have to share can inspire one person, or 20 people or 1000s of people. Don't be afraid to share your voice.” (36:43-36:55 | Jimmy) Links Get in touch with Jimmy Zugschwert: Website: https://jimzugschwert.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jimmyzugschwert/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100076911593145 Get in touch with host Jeff Meyer: www.jeffmeyer.org Book a FREE 30-Minute Dream Discovery Call with Jeff: https://calendly.com/d/dk6-mzr-dsq Schedule a Discovery Call with Jeff: https://go.oncehub.com/DreamAcceleratorDiscoveryCall Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

This week, I sit down with Carla Marconi and talk about the need to unlearn the outdated belief that we need to hustle and grind it out in order to be successful. After spending 10 years playing it safe and doing what she felt she was “supposed to” as a Marketing and Sales Specialist, she finally took the leap into a life she loves. And now, she is teaching other women how to do the same. Using her signature Soul Rhythm Business Method—an all-encompassing mind, body, and soul approach— she helps multi-passionate women align their strategy, energy, and action to confidently start and grow sustainable, soul-aligned businesses. Because she believes that we have this one life to live. Why not make the journey one filled with personal growth, transformations, and soul-aligned passion and purpose? Carla is a business coach and an NLP Master Practitioner and runs Soul Rhythm. In her work, she helps entrepreneurs ditch the overwhelm and align their strategy, energy and actions, so they can run a business that doesn't run them and finally get the results they want. In this episode, we talk about her journey and relationship to the grind both in working as a top sales associate as well as working for herself - and how the journey to unlearning doing more allowed her to step into a season where she has had the biggest levels of growth ever. Today, through her business mindset coaching offered through Soul Rhythm, she helps female entrepreneurs master the inner game of running their business, by upgrading their belief systems and business strategy, so they can fire the inner critic and become masterful business women. So much of what helped her step up into the woman she is today was learning to make decisions faster, constantly building her confidence, clearing energetic blocks and rising into her role as a LEADER. What I loved about this conversation is the internalized story so many women have about the constant need to both hustle and prove; and how we eventually get to a point where we realize that is doesn't really serve our highest good. Carla is all about helping her clients achieve success; but is also really clear about helping women have more fun and create a bigger impact in the process. Carla is offering her signature program Magnetic Leadership geared for women who are ready to ditch the imposter syndrome, strengthen their confidence and step into the business leader they know they are capable of, so they can tap into their innate charisma and move the needle forward faster in their business and life. You can learn more about it here: https://www.soulrhythmco.com/magneticleadership Be sure to follow Carla Marconi on Instagram @carla.soulrhytm and follow Enough Labs @enoughlabs too!
