Nearly 40 years to the day George Lucas unveiled a new cinematic vision upon the world. A vision that would change the small screen forever and may even give the Holiday Special some competition for the worst ideas he's ever had. We are referring to the one and only Ewok films; Caravan of Courage and Battle For Endor. These films have it all. They have plenty of furry Ewoks, annoying children put in impressively horrible peril, cocaine rats, Wilfred Brimley, a fantasy adventure set within a sci-fi world, and a bad case of the Blurrg Toe! Paul, Javi, and - indubitably - Producer Brad take on one of the greatest studies in fear and paranoia ever put to film: John Carpenter's The Thing. Released on June 25, 1982, it's one of the rare remakes that outdoes the original in vision and enduring influence, this paragon of the horror genre continues to chill audiences to the bone to this day, and Multiplex Overthruster is here to tell you why!

Dana and Tom discuss The Natural (1984) for its 40th anniversary: directed by Barry Levinson, written by Roger Towne and Phil Dusenberry, music by Randy Newman, starring Robert Redford, Glenn Close, Kim Basinger, Robert Duvall, and Wilfred Brimley.Plot Summary: "The Natural," directed by Barry Levinson and based on Bernard Malamud's novel, is a cinematic ode to the enduring spirit of baseball and the human capacity for redemption. Roy Hobbs, portrayed with a blend of innocence and determination by Robert Redford, emerges as a mythical figure in the world of baseball. After a fateful encounter derails his early dreams, Hobbs resurfaces years later wielding a bat that seems touched by fate itself. His journey with the New York Knights is a tale of triumph over adversity, and of second chances and the pursuit of greatness amidst personal demons and external pressures. Through stunning cinematography and a score that echoes the heartbeat of the game, "The Natural" transcends sports drama to become a timeless narrative of hope and the pursuit of dreams against all odds. You can now follow us on Instagram, Twitter, or TikTok (@gmoatpodcast) or find our Facebook page at Greatest Movie of All-Time Podcast. For more on the episode, go to: https://www.ronnyduncanstudios.com/post/the-natural-1984For the entire rankings list so far, go to:Full Graded List - Greatest Movies of All-Time Ronny Duncan Studios

In a media environment where we are beset on all sides by messages, it can be hard to connect with your audiences. More challenging still is educating and impacting. We are all familiar with ads on television for different medications, from restless leg syndrome to depression to atrial fibrillation to skin problems to Wilfred Brimley “diabetus” advertisements, it is easy to feel uneasy about our health. It raises the question of whether the purpose of these ads is to educate or to convince that we indeed need to “speak to our doctor” about a certain drug despite the quickly-spoken side effects. Even when focused on “human-centered” design, it is easy to lose the human in the drive for profit. Not that there is anything wrong with making a profit, but when that becomes the sole driver, then all other considerations can take a backseat to that goal. To create a successful marketing and branding experience, it is not just about convincing, but also connecting. And as our media and social environments continue to change, we have to be innovative in how we create content that connects with people in a way that makes them feel cared for. Today on Experience by Design, we are pleased to welcome Wanda Toro Turini of Ketchwords and Rock-It Fuel. Wanda has built a career around innovating how people connect with their target audiences. Her interest in helping people led her to get a Doctorate in Pharmacology. And her passion for innovation and entrepreneurship led her to work with Novartis as a Sales Specialist and innovating in eBusiness. This path ultimately led her to exploring how to optimize how we connect with people through leveraging the power of new technologies to create more engaging content. We explore the concepts of awareness versus education in marketing and content creation. She tells us about her move from the pharmacy to sales to entrepreneurship, and what she learned from each along the way. We discuss why we need an outside perspective to help us see what we can do for others, and how to create systems to deliver on that promise. Finally, we talk about shamanic journeys and strategic meditation, and what a long strange trip it's been. This was the first in our series of ExD Live, hosted by the ever affable Michael Kirkpatrick on location at Centric Park in beautiful downtown Newburyport, Massachusetts. Centric Park provides experience design and rapid innovation for great companies committed to customer centricity.

It's been a week, so we talk some about the Oscars, and some about last week's episode – thanks to some notes from a listener – and we get into the thrills of possible nuclear meltdown in LA. There's dueling coifs and so many beige layers on our protagonists, but we won't let that distract us from those vibrations, even if Wilfred Brimley won't have our back until it's too late.   Recommendations: Belfast; CODA (Apple+)   Next up: Night of the Living Dead (1968)   Email us at latecomers@gmail.com Twitter: @latecomerspod Find Amity @ www.amityarmstrong.com and @AmityArmstrong on Twitter Our Facebook group is here for those who consent: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1754020081574479/ This podcast is powered by Pinecast.

Then, the guys are ready for the first in a new trilogy of Hallmark films, “The Wedding Veil.” Starring Lacey Chabert, Allison Sweeney, and Autumn Reeser, only this expansion of the Hallmark Cinematic Universe could shine a well-deserved spotlight on a Grady from Sanford and Son Masterclass and a realization about Wilfred Brimley that Les is NOT happy to learn (and it has nothing to do with oatmeal, vodka, or cocaine… or the cease and desist that may follow. This (last?) week's episode is (was?) Glore-ious. Get it? Oh man, I'm doing way too much here. Either way it was rad. We had the very funny Ricky Glore (@rickyglore) on the show to talk about the movie In & Out. Kevin Kline does some very Kevin Kline things, and absolutely crushes his role as Howard Brackett, a flamboyant English teacher in a high school in Anytown, USA (actually the fictional town of Greenleaf, Indiana), whose former pupil Cameron Drake (Matt Dillon) outs him as a gay man to the surprise of the entire community, including Howard himself. Tom Selleck also stops by to drop a surprisingly good performance as Peter Malloy, a sleazy, TMZ/Inside Edition, Hollywood gossip leach who eventually convinces Howard that he's actually gay. Not that it took that much convincing because Howard is definitely gay. The ensemble cast is rounded out by Joan Cusack, who just nails it as Howard's frustrated beard bride-to-be. Debbie Reynolds, Wilfred Brimley, and Bob Newhart are just a few of the others that help create this great community that is reacting to this “earth shattering news” (for 1997).   During the show, we ponder just how well this movie holds up from a contemporary standpoint. Ricky gives us his perspective, and that of his brother that has been out of the closet for some time. Ultimately, we feel like this is certainly a positive portrayal of gay people and gay culture, but that's where it ends. Unfortunately, it was perhaps too early in the gay rights movement to allow for a more sexualized version of Howard to emerge, because the only thing they focus on in this movie is his lifestyle. We aren't exactly begging for a graphic sex scene, but it takes more than just a fondness for Streisand and pressed clothes to determine one's sexuality. However, that is apparently a decision the writer specifically made in order to gently ease the larger public into the gay culture, and farbeit from us to challenge the decision, given the success of the movie, and its place in popular culture at the time. Thanks again for listening. We've got some fun stuff in the very near future. Bill, not surprisingly, sells Matt out AGAIN, to start an episode. The fellas have a new million dollar merch idea. An early WWTP brings Mr. T into the fold but not before some good old-fashioned bickering. Matt might be a racist. There's no number 59 worth discussing. Bill re-innovates “Cats” as effectively as he innovates everything else. We've all got a mean streak in us. The fellas love how nonchalantly Ricky speaks about the robbery. Shelly just wants to get thru his war story. Dave doesn't know which end is up. Matt has to shut-down a future WWTP. Alan Arkin steals the scene with an incredible economy of lines. Pacino, forever slouched, performs some the best hand acting that you'll ever see. The phrase “None of my business..." absolves Ricky of all blame and it's beautiful. The fellas get into some candy casting. Bill often winds up in the pedophile zone. Wilfred Brimley gets thrown to the all the grey wolves that occupy the Shelly corral, as the fellas bookend this minute with another WWTP.
