When you understand the cause, you can understand that the remedies most doctors prescribe may not be the first option men will want to explore. In this interview, Akil Taher, MD, shows the relational cause of ED and the benefits of the blueberry vs the blue pill. It's simple to understand why one is better than the other after you learn this valuable information. He will also talk about the deep relation between ED and Heart Disease. As a physician, Dr. Taher prescribed the little blue pill to scores of patients over the years, and now that he has adopted a whole-food, plant-based vegan lifestyle and is teaching others the benefits of a plant-based diet, the blueberry is his new prescription, and he shares why. Dr. Taher is honored to be a part of the Ultimate Vegan Health & Weight Loss Bundle with his eBook, "HEART HEALTH, WISDOM QUOTES, FACTS, AND RESOURCES". In it, you will find inspirational quotes, scientific information, video links, resources, and more. He is also launching his "Monthly Talk with the Heart Healthy Doc" and information about how you can be in the Doctor's Corner Zoom Room to learn and ask questions, is something you'll find inside the eBook. Fashion icon. TV personality. Book author. Cancer survivor. Septuagenarian. My guest, Diane Gilman, is all of those things and now, for her third act, she is bringing women together to support one another to make their third act, their best one yet.Diane knew, from the time she was 5, that she wanted to be in fashion. She wanted to sew and go to school for it but her mother was having none of it.Get married and be a good wife was the message of the day.Somehow Diane was able to break away from the limitations of her mother's thinking.“When the sixties hit and through circumstance, I met Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix and Jefferson Airplane. I became their seamstress in the band. I took their denim, their jeans. I embroidered it. I jeweled it. I loved to do hand painting on denim. I followed the music scene to San Francisco and then one day just said, you know, you're in your mid-twenties. Where are you going with this? A party cannot last forever.”So, she took her last few bucks and moved to NYC, home of the fashion industry.A dream she had, experience she did not, so at night she worked as “the worst waitress at Max's Kansas City” and by day in the bullet bra and girdle department in Bloomingdale's. Fate stepped in, she was given a break because she boldly said she was ready despite the lack of evidence. Diane's story is one of persistence, belief in herself, and she'd probably say, a good bit of luck.At one point her washable silk clothing line was on QVC, then Home Shopping Network. Feeling crappy and unattractive after her divorce, with nothing to wear that fit so she felt good, she decided to make herself a pair of jeans that she felt good in. Another hugely successful chapter was born.Diane became known as “The Queen of Jeans” for her jeans designed for a mature woman. She went global with her products when she realized that no matter where we come from, we are all women feeling the same things about our body, aging, and looking good.“Surviving breast cancer and two years of treatments” Diane told me, “when you get a disease like breast cancer, you suddenly realize it doesn't carehow much money you have or how glamorous you are, or who you know, or who knows you. You're brought down to a level of reality. I came out the other end with a sense of empathy and compassion I would've never had otherwise. It prepared her for her third act of bringing women together and helping them, us, live as though each moment is precious, supporting one another, taking a stand for all women everywhere to love who they are right now.And she admitted that it takes a good bit of work to stay healthy, fit, relevant, engaged, and connected. More than she sometimes feels like doing. But if we don't take care of the body and the mind, they get weak, our lives become less alive.Diane's websiteHer new book Too Young To Be OldInstagramIf you want support preparing yourself for your third act, or you'd love to figure out what that is, reach out. I'd love to help.

In October 2011, he ran his first full marathon (26.2 miles or 49.19 kilometers), the Chicago Marathon, and in September 2012, he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Over the last decade Dr. Taher has overcome acute and chronic medical ailments to indulge in century cycling, triathloning, skydiving, hang gliding, scuba diving, and white water rafting. This was possible because he changed his lifestyle to incorporate healthy eating habits, an exercise regimen, and regular practice of yoga and meditation. Dr. Taher pushed himself into areas that tested his vulnerabilities and capabilities; namely, triathlons and a mud race. Dr. Akil Taher is a practicing medical doctor, an author, eternal optimist, explorer, adventurer, a strong advocate for a whole food, plant-based vegan lifestyle. He is a Septuagenarian who has educated thousands to understand a way out of the pain of chronic illness and disease. He believes that what you eat is the most important pillar of the 6 Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine, which along with his incredible story, he often also shares. As an author and speaker, Dr. Taher stays focused on spreading the message of the benefits of living a heart-healthy lifestyle. As an athlete and veganism proponent, he has benefited tremendously by adopting a plant-based diet and fostering a deeper connection with nature. And as a resurgent physician, he leverages medical science and lifestyle medicine to treat the underlying cause of the disease and not just the consequence of the disease. Dr. Taher often says and writes in his book, “OPEN HEART” that, “Up to the age of sixty-one, I was my biggest impediment to progress, and then I became my biggest change agent. And now at age seventy-four, I am living a life of purpose, peace, and contentment, doing everything I love. I have reincarnated into a new life to stay true to the meaning of my first name, Akil−the "wise.” Dr. Akil Taher's book “OPEN HEART: The Transformational Journey of a Doctor Who, After Bypass Surgery at 61, Ran Marathons and Climbed Mountains” is available on Amazon and Kindle and all proceeds from book sales go to charity (PETA, St. Jude Children's Hospital, and the American Heart Association). If you have kept an eye on David Shapiro, who has, over the last almost 50 years, been a trader and investor on the JSE, seeing his presentation at the third BizNews Conference earlier this month in the beautiful Drakensberg will not disappoint. The spirited septuagenarian, who was expected to discuss growth investing, veered slightly off topic. But it was well worth it. Though Shapiro follows a growth-oriented investment style, his unique insight into and understanding of investment is not without merit.

Originally from New York City, Berne Weiss moved from California to Central Europe following the 1989 Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia. An activist, Berne is also a Quaker, working for peace and social justice. Now in her late 70s, her stories of coming of age during the cultural revolution of the '60s, and eventually relocating to Hungary, where she lived and worked through the country's transition from communism to a 'sort of democracy' are a fascinating reflection on a slice of history that echoes something of the complex times in which we're living today.
Margaret Grundstein was raised in Detroit, attended the University of Michigan and then headed east, first to Goddard College for a Bachelor's in History and then to Yale to graduate with a Master's in Urban Planning in 1970. With the ink still wet on her diploma, Margaret headed west, dropping out to live communally in the woods of Oregon, an adventure she writes about in her first memoir, Naked in the Woods; My Unexpected Years in a Hippie Commune, published by Oregon State University Press in 2015. Five years later, having dropped back in, Margaret created a niche that fit her life as a single parent, the owner/director of a preschool in Venice, California which she still runs today. Margaret also has a private practice as a psychotherapist in Los Angeles. Ten years ago she added a third career, writing. Margaret's second book, Not Dead Yet: The Life and Loves of a Septuagenarian, a collection of eight personal essays, is presently looking for a home with a publisher. Host Joanna Port is Director at Crestwood Hills Preschool. She has a Masters in Education from Pepperdine University and a Masters in Social Work from USC. Last time, we reset, but now the hotseat is BACK: it's the return of the Talk'n Pop interview! Cultured sophisticates Jenny and Tim boldly welcome noted thespian and celebrated playwright Aaron George to the show as a true bucket list guest. And no quarter was asked, no quarter given for the Quebecois superstar who divulges all! While our discussion is centered on Aaron's... shall-we-say, dramatic vocation, it proves to be a whirlwind journey in true TnP fashion. Amongst our many highlights, enjoy: *Reality-warping Canadian geography *The motivating power of spite *Septuagenarian sex pervert theater school instructors *Hard times for Cobra High Command *Theater community snobbery *The worst stage production of Aaron's career *Baz Luhrmann's William's Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet *The cross-generational appeal of William Shakespeare *Balancing your passions with paying the bills *Keeping a level head in paranoid times To no great surprise, we also landed squarely in some existential musings, exploring the supposed nobility of pursuing one's passions, goal fulfillment, and what comes next when you've got a lot of living left and ambition to spare. We were positively delighted to talk all this frou-frou bullshit with our friend Aaron and proud to share that conversation with you! In this episode, I explain exactly how I think you should eat to build the most muscle possible. Most people train their asses off but build very little muscle. This result is because they are fighting only half the battle. While they focus all their energy on the training front, they get blindsided by the diet. I made this mistake myself, and my results improved dramatically when I fixed it. I’ll share how you can do the same and start to see far better results in this episode. I outline how quickly you can build muscle, determine the number of calories you need to gain lean muscle, and pinpoint the two nutritional factors that deliver 80% of your results. I also identify the hierarchy of needs when it comes to nutrition for muscle gain, and I take you step-by-step through each of these in order of importance: Total calories Macronutrients Nutrient timing Micronutrients Food composition Supplements Nutritional periodization By the end of this episode, you will have all the information you need to plan out your muscle-building diet plan. These are the exact nutritional principles I use in my diet and those of my clients. Wow, the reason that Chaz and Jake haven't been providing fresh new episodes of this podcast for the past couple of months has been because we got lost in the desert on an annual BvD Board of Directors-mandated team building exercise. We almost starved, too! That Charlie really was looking pretty tasty for a couple of days there, wasn't he? Anyway, we're back, but we've had no access to the news or to the outside world for most of 2020. Did we miss anything? (Shuffles papers). Are we sure that this Bowie release schedule is correct? How many 90's-era soul patches must we endure? (Shuffles different papers). Dylan's still BACK?! Like, for realskis? That's rad! Like you are, dear listeners, who will never hold it against us that we refuse to catch on the state of domestic affairs, not to mention global ones, on this edition of Bowie vs. Dylan.
The word legend is thrown around too often, but in this episode, we are genuinely joined by a legend of strength sports – Odd Haugen. Odd was America’s Strongest Man in 1999, has broken multiple world records, competed, and won national titles in bodybuilding, weightlifting, and powerlifting, and helped organize and judge numerous events worldwide. He coached Martins Licis to the 2019 Worlds’ Strongest Man title. And if that wasn’t enough, at the age of 70, he’s stronger than you! In this episode, we discuss the lessons he’s learned over 60 years of training. We discover the secrets to his amazing grip strength and lifting longevity. This is a fascinating insight into what it takes to get to the top and stay there. Retired Bay Area “letter carrier” (postal worker) Linda Lee is a different kind of presence on the Bay Area’s gay nightlife scene. In her seventies, her penchant for festive kitty t-shirts, embellishments on her orthopedic cane and colorful sneakers make her a kind of fun grandmother/auntie character at the many drag events, comedy nights, plays, concerts, bar events and other nightlife events she travels to on BART from her rented apartment in Hayward. Arts & entertainment and fashion reporter Tony Bravo interviews Linda Lee, who was featured in a recent Style section cover story. Produced by Peter Hartlaub. It’s not unusual for me to get a quizzical look or a blank stare when I talk about my annual bicycle trip. For me, 10 days pedaling around some European countryside is downright glorious!

If you were discussing great early explorers you’d probably use words like, fearless, courageous and determine. They’re all words you can use to describe Heather Mills. Heather is a septuagenarian with an adventurous spirit who has recently returned from back packing in Jordan. In this podcast we talk about the international travellers she’s met during her hostel stays, accidentally deleting all of her photos at the top of a mountain she’d just conquered in India, an archaeological dig she was part of when she was 22 and her ancestral connections to some early Queensland pioneers.
