He is a past President of the Architects Institute of Australia, Victorian Chapter. He is also a past President of the Jewish Museum of Australia. He was recently Chair of the Melbourne Art Foundation who run the Melbourne Art Fair. He co-founded with his wife Leah the Justin Art House Museum in 2016. In 2022 he was awarded an AM in the Australian Honours. Leah Justin was a high school teacher before working as an architectural librarian. She later established and managed the adult education program at the Jewish Museum of Australia and was its Director of community education for 20 years . She has also been involved in Jewish community affairs in a voluntary capacity for over 40 years . In 2016 , she co-founded JAHM with her husband Charles.

Heather Crume, California Geological Survey Surface creep has been documented on the San Andreas fault (SAF) since the 1960s. From Parkfield in the southeast to San Juan Bautista (SJB) in the northwest, the SAF is largely creeping and accommodating most of the ~38 mm/year right-lateral plate motion. The SJB section of the SAF lies at the northwest boundary of the central creeping section, forming a creeping-to-locked transition. These transition sections are known to be potential zones for earthquake nucleation. Spatiotemporal changes in fault creep within this locking transition provide a potential quantitative measure for the assessment of the seismic hazard of the SAF system in the region. In addition to steady fault creep, episodic creep events characterized by accelerated slip of a few millimeters to centimeters over several days occur. However, knowledge of the along-strike and downdip-extent and propagation velocity of these events is limited by the sparse density of current creepmeters. How do these events propagate? What is their magnitude? What factors drive their occurrence? Moreover, there is a need to address environmental effects that can confound creep data and develop appropriate corrections. To address some of these questions, we have initiated a densification of the current creepmeter array by installing new instruments and renovating those in disrepair. We report results from some of these sensors. At Fox Creek, south of Hollister, we installed two creepmeters 130 m apart to measure creep event propagation velocity. One was equipped with an orthogonal sensor to measure dilation. During the dry season ≈0.16-0.35 mm of fault dilation accompanied complex creep event sequences with cumulative amplitudes of 3.5-5.8 mm. In the months following each sequence the fault zone slowly returned to its pre-event width. During one creep event a southward propagating dislocation was present with a velocity of 0.4 km/hour. We also observe distinct differences in amplitude and shape of creep events. Further, we are able to correct for apparent left-lateral slip due to fault closing during a rain event using the relationship between the orthogonal and oblique instruments.

Le Sri Lanka traverse depuis le début de l'année la pire crise économique de son histoire, les caisses de l'État sont quasiment vides, et le gouvernement a dû cesser le remboursement de ses emprunts étrangers pour essayer de résorber les pénuries d'essence et d'autres biens importés. Dans ce contexte, une énorme zone franche, créée par une entreprise chinoise sur la baie de Colombo, vient de sortir de terre. Ses promoteurs affirment qu'elle représente une chance d'attirer de nouveaux investissements étrangers. Mais cette zone, qui fonctionne de manière autonome et avec peu de contrôles, pourrait aussi faciliter la conduite des transactions financières douteuses.  De notre envoyé spécial à Colombo, C'est une île de plus de 260 hectares, qui vient de naître sur la baie de Colombo, devant le palais présidentiel. Une île spéciale, toutefois : c'est une zone franche, où la plupart des taxes et règles bancaires sri-lankaises ne s'appliquent pas, et qui n'accepte que des devises étrangères. Bienvenue à Colombo Port City : « Cette nouvelle marina pourra bientôt accueillir plus de 125 yachts. C'est la première marina du Sri Lanka et il y aura aussi des magasins et un club nautique », espère-t-on. C'est la compagnie chinoise CHEC qui a bâti ce gigantesque polder, pour 1,3 milliard d'euros. Cette société, contrôlée par l'État chinois, détient en échange les deux tiers des droits d'exploitation des terrains commerciaux de l'île. Pour l'instant, seuls ce début de marina et des clubs balnéaires ont été construits, mais à terme, cette zone franche veut surtout attirer des sociétés de la finance. « Nous présentons Port City comme un point de repère idéal pour faire des affaires en Asie du Sud », déclare Thulci Aluwihare, le directeur adjoint de CHEC Port City Colombo. « C'est une plateforme offshore, comme le Luxembourg ou l'île Maurice ; vous investissez en devises étrangères, vous faites des affaires, et vous en ressortez sans devoir les convertir. » La crainte d'une transformation en un lieu de blanchiment d'argent Cette zone économique spéciale jouit toutefois d'une autonomie qui inquiète : elle est gouvernée par une petite commission qui décide de tout et n'est responsable que devant le président. Le Parlement n'a qu'un accès restreint à ses opérations. Surtout, comme cette commission opère en dehors du contrôle bancaire du pays, beaucoup craignent que Colombo Port City ne se transforme en une place de blanchiment d'argent. « Le gouvernement n'a aucun contrôle sur les casinos qui y seront installés et le Trésor ne peut enquêter sur place que sur recommandation de la Commission », explique Thisath Wijayagunawardane, conseiller juridique pour le parti d'opposition SJB. « Donc, si la Commission le veut, elle peut faire de Port City un paradis du blanchiment d'argent. Ainsi, non seulement l'État ne perçoit pas de taxes sur ces affaires, mais en plus, la réputation du Sri Lanka risque d'être entachée. » Des étrangers peuvent également siéger à cette commission, ce qui en fait une nouvelle porte d'entrée possible pour la Chine ou l'Inde voisine. Susanne Riveles received a Ph.D. in African Studies from Howard University in Washington DC and holds an MA in Sociology from the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, Germany. She also studied at the American University in Cairo, Egypt, and Columbia University in New York. From 1980-1993, she worked for Amnesty International (AIUSA), leading their Southern Africa Coordination Group. Her advocacy portfolio included many hundreds of prisoners of conscience, notably Nelson Mandela, Albertina and Walter Sisulu, Desmond Tutu, and Simon Farisani. In May 1985, she accompanied the Rev. Jesse Jackson on his two-weeks speaking tour to the European Parliament in Strasbourg and to Berlin to mark the 40th anniversary of the liberation of Berlin and the end of WWII. For three years, Dr. Riveles directed a project for the Holocaust and war victims Tracing and Information Center of the American Red Cross at the US National Archives, searching through German documents captured by the US army during WWII and at the liberation of German concentration camps. From 2005-2009 Dr. Riveles researched the National Archives in Berlin, researching the records collected by the Nazi secret police (Gestapo) about the activities of the Saefkow, Jacob, Baestlein (SJB) resistance group. Dr. Riveles and two historians, all daughters of executed members of the SJB resistance organization, designed, researched, fundraised, and implemented the exhibit presented at Berlin's Humboldt University in summer 2009. Dr. Riveles was also responsible for a project that placed 53 commemorative stones {Stolpersteine) in and around Berlin. Dr. Riveles served on the Board of the International Alliance of Women, where she was the convener of the Commission for Women, Peace, and Security and served as a delegate to the UN Commission on the Status of Women CSW for the last seven years. Adam is a director at SJB, one of Australia’s leading architectural firms. Adam Haddow is an architect and urban designer. A Churchill Fellow, Adam travelled the world investigating alternatives to conventional models of urban design. The sabbatical resulted in a research project entitled ‘Shall We Dense’ an examination into the state of modern density living in Australia. Adam’s diverse experience and creative expertise is recognised by numerous architectural accolades, including international awards for Casba, winner of the 2015 World Architecture Festival for mixed-use completed buildings; and Cleveland Rooftop winner of the 2018 Architizer A+ Award, residential apartment. In 2014, he was creative director of the Australian National Architecture Conference. Architect Jeremy McLeod established Breathe Architecture in 2001 after working for a couple of large Melbourne practices; SJB & Fender Katsalidis.
